1 AND THESE [ARE] THE NATIONS WHICH HE LEFT YAHWEH TO PUT TO [THE] TEST BY <THE> THEM <OBJ.> ISRAEL <OBJ.> ALL [THOSE] WHO NOT THEY HAD KNOWN <OBJ.> ALL [THE] WARS OF CANAAN
Nations Left to Test Israel
1 These are the nations that the LORD left to test all the Israelites who had not known any of the wars in Canaan,
2 ONLY SO AS TO KNOW [THE] GENERATIONS OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL TO TEACH THEM WAR ONLY WHICH <TO> BEFORE NOT THEY HAD KNOWN THEM
2 if only. to teach warfare to the subsequent generations of Israel, especially to those who had not known it formerly:
3 [THE] FIVE [THE] RULERS OF [THE] PHILISTINES AND ALL THE CANAANITE[S] AND THE SIDONIAN[S] AND THE HIVITE[S] [WHO] DWELT OF [THE] MOUNT OF <THE> LEBANON FROM [THE] MOUNTAIN OF BAAL HERMON TO LEBO HAMATH
3 the five rulers of the Philistines, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites who lived in the mountains of Lebanon from Mount Baal-hermon to Lebo-hamath.
4 AND THEY WERE TO PUT TO [THE] TEST BY <THE> THEM <OBJ.> ISRAEL TO KNOW ¿ WILL THEY OBEY <OBJ.> [THE] COMMANDMENTS OF YAHWEH WHICH HE HAD COMMANDED <OBJ.> ANCESTORS THEIR BY [THE] HAND OF MOSES
4 These nations were left to test the Israelites, to find out whether they would keep the commandments of the LORD, which He had given their fathers through Moses.
5 AND [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL THEY DWELT IN [THE] MIDST OF THE CANAANITE[S] THE HITTITE[S] AND THE AMORITE[S] AND THE PERIZZITE[S] AND THE HIVITE[S] AND THE JEBUSITE[S]
5 Thus the Israelites continued to live among the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.
6 AND THEY TOOK <OBJ.> DAUGHTERS THEIR FOR <THE> THEMSELVES TO WIVES AND <OBJ.> DAUGHTERS THEIR THEY GAVE TO SONS THEIR AND THEY SERVED <OBJ.> GODS THEIR
6 And they took the daughters of these people in marriage, gave their own daughters to their sons, and served their gods.
7 AND THEY DID [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <OBJ.> THE EVIL IN [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH AND THEY FORGOT <OBJ.> YAHWEH GOD THEIR AND THEY SERVED <OBJ.> THE BAALS AND <OBJ.> THE ASHERAH POLES

7 So the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD; they forgot the LORD their God and served the Baals and the Asherahs.
8 AND IT BURNED [THE] ANGER OF YAHWEH ON ISRAEL AND HE SOLD THEM IN [THE] HAND OF CUSHAN- RISHATHAIM [THE] KING OF ARAM NAHARAIM AND THEY SERVED [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <OBJ.> CUSHAN- RISHATHAIM EIGHT YEARS
8 Then the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and He sold them into the hand of Cushan-rishathaim king of Aram-naharaim, and the Israelites served him eight years.
9 AND THEY CRIED OUT [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL TO YAHWEH AND HE RAISED UP YAHWEH A DELIVERER FOR [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND HE DELIVERED THEM <OBJ.> OTHNIEL [THE] SON OF KENAZ [THE] BROTHER OF CALEB <THE> YOUNG MORE THAN HIM
9 But when the Israelites cried out to the LORD, He raised up Othniel son of Caleb’s younger brother Kenaz as a deliverer to save them.
10 AND IT WAS ON HIM [THE] SPIRIT OF YAHWEH AND HE JUDGED <OBJ.> ISRAEL AND HE WENT OUT TO <THE> WAR AND HE GAVE YAHWEH IN HAND HIS <OBJ.> CUSHAN- RISHATHAIM [THE] KING OF ARAM AND IT PREVAILED HAND HIS OVER CUSHAN- RISHATHAIM
10 The Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he became Israel’s judge and went out to war. And the LORD delivered Cushan-rishathaim king of Aram into the hand of Othniel who prevailed against him.
11 AND IT WAS AT PEACE THE LAND FORTY YEAR[S] AND HE DIED OTHNIEL [THE] SON OF KENAZ
11 So the land had rest for forty years, until Othniel son of Kenaz died.
12 AND THEY REPEATED [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL TO DO THE EVIL IN [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH AND HE STRENGTHENED YAHWEH <OBJ.> EGLON [THE] KING OF MOAB OVER ISRAEL ON FOR THEY DID <OBJ.> THE EVIL IN [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH

12 Once again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD. So He gave Eglon king of Moab power over Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD.
13 AND HE GATHERED TO HIMSELF <OBJ.> [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON AND AMALEK AND HE WENT AND HE ATTACKED <OBJ.> ISRAEL AND THEY TOOK POSSESSION OF <OBJ.> [THE] CITY OF THE PALM TREES
13 After enlisting the Ammonites and Amalekites to join forces with him, Eglon attacked and defeated Israel, taking possession of the City of Palms.
14 AND THEY SERVED [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <OBJ.> EGLON [THE] KING OF MOAB EIGHT- TEEN YEAR[S]
14 The Israelites served Eglon king of Moab eighteen years.
15 AND THEY CRIED OUT [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL TO YAHWEH AND HE RAISED UP YAHWEH FOR <THE> THEM A DELIVERER <OBJ.> EHUD [THE] SON OF GERA [THE] BEN- <THE> JAMINITE A MAN IMPEDED [THE] HAND OF RIGHT HIS AND THEY SENT [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL BY HAND HIS TRIBUTE TO EGLON [THE] KING OF MOAB
15 And again they cried out to the LORD, and He raised up Ehud son of Gera a left-handed Benjamite as their deliverer. So they sent him with tribute to Eglon king of Moab.
16 AND HE MADE FOR <THE> HIMSELF EHUD A SWORD AND [BELONGED] TO <THE> IT TWO LIPS [WAS] A CUBIT LENGTH ITS AND HE GIRDED <OBJ.> IT FROM UNDER TO GARMENTS HIS ON [THE] THIGH OF RIGHT HIS
16 Now Ehud had made for himself a double-edged sword a cubit long. He strapped it to his right thigh under his cloak
17 AND HE BROUGHT NEAR <OBJ.> THE TRIBUTE TO EGLON [THE] KING OF MOAB AND EGLON [WAS] A MAN FAT VERY
17 and brought the tribute to Eglon king of Moab, who was an obese man.
18 AND IT WAS JUST WHEN HE HAD FINISHED TO BRING NEAR <OBJ.> THE TRIBUTE AND HE SENT AWAY <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE [WHO] BORE <OF> THE TRIBUTE
18 After Ehud had finished presenting the tribute, he ushered out those who had carried it.
19 AND HE HE RETURNED FROM THE IDOLS WHICH [WERE] WITH <THE> GILGAL AND HE SAID A WORD OF SECRECY [BELONGS] TO <THE> ME TO YOU O KING AND HE SAID HUSH! AND THEY WENT OUT FROM WITH <THE> HIM ALL THOSE [WHO] STOOD WITH HIM
19 But upon reaching the idols near Gilgal, he himself turned back and said, “I have a secret message for you, O king.”
“Silence,” said the king, and all his attendants left him.
20 AND EHUD HE CAME TO HIM AND HE [WAS] SITTING IN [THE] ROOF CHAMBER OF THE COOLNESS WHICH [BELONGED] TO <THE> HIM TO ONLY HIM AND HE SAID EHUD A WORD OF GOD [BELONGS] TO <THE> ME TO YOU AND HE ROSE FROM ON THE THRONE
20 Then Ehud approached him while he was sitting alone in the coolness of his upper room. “I have a word from God for you,” Ehud said, and the king rose from his seat.
21 AND HE STRETCHED OUT EHUD <OBJ.> [THE] HAND OF LEFT HIS AND HE TOOK <OBJ.> THE SWORD FROM ON [THE] THIGH OF RIGHT HIS AND HE THRUST IT IN BELLY HIS
21 And Ehud reached with his left hand, pulled the sword from his right thigh, and plunged it into Eglon’s belly.
22 AND IT WENT ALSO THE HILT AFTER THE BLADE AND IT CLOSED UP THE FAT BEHIND THE BLADE THAT NOT HE DREW OUT THE SWORD FROM BELLY HIS AND HE WENT OUT THE HOLE TOWARDS
22 Even the handle sank in after the blade, and Eglon’s fat closed in over it, so that Ehud did not withdraw the sword from his belly. And Eglon’s bowels emptied.
23 AND HE WENT OUT EHUD THE PORCH TOWARDS AND HE CLOSED [THE] DOORS OF THE ROOF CHAMBER BEHIND HIM AND HE LOCKED [THEM]
23 Then Ehud went out through the porch, closing and locking the doors of the upper room behind him.
24 AND HE HE WENT FORTH AND SERVANTS HIS THEY CAME AND THEY SAW AND THERE! [THE] DOORS OF THE ROOF CHAMBER [WERE] LOCKED AND THEY SAID SURELY [IS] COVERING HE <OBJ.> FEET HIS IN [THE] CHAMBER OF THE COOLNESS
24 After Ehud was gone, Eglon’s servants came in and found the doors of the upper room locked.. He must be relieving himself in the cool room,” they said.
25 AND THEY WRITHED UNTIL WERE ASHAMED AND THERE! NOT HE [WAS] OPENING [THE] DOORS OF THE ROOF CHAMBER AND THEY TOOK <OBJ.> THE KEY AND THEY OPENED [THEM] AND THERE! MASTER<S> THEIR [WAS] LYING [THE] GROUND TOWARDS DEAD
25 So they waited until they became worried and saw that he had still not opened the doors of the upper room. Then they took the key and opened the doors— and there was their lord lying dead on the floor.
26 AND EHUD HE ESCAPED UNTIL DELAYED THEY AND HE HE PASSED BY <OBJ.> THE IDOLS AND HE ESCAPED <THE> SEIRAH TOWARDS
26 Ehud, however, had escaped while the servants waited. He passed by the idols and escaped to Seirah.
27 AND IT WAS WHEN CAME HE AND HE GAVE A BLAST ON THE RAM'S HORN IN [THE] HILL COUNTRY OF EPHRAIM AND THEY WENT DOWN WITH HIM [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL FROM THE HILL COUNTRY AND HE [WAS] <TO> BEFORE THEM
27 On arriving in Seirah, he blew the ram’s horn throughout the hill country of Ephraim. The Israelites came down with him from the hills, and he became their leader.
28 AND HE SAID TO THEM PURSUE AFTER ME FOR HE HAS GIVEN YAHWEH <OBJ.> ENEMIES YOUR <OBJ.> MOAB IN HAND YOUR AND THEY WENT DOWN AFTER HIM AND THEY CAPTURED <OBJ.> [THE] FORDS OF THE JORDAN TO MOAB AND NOT THEY PERMITTED ANYONE TO PASS OVER
28 “Follow me,” he told them, “for the LORD has delivered your enemies the Moabites into your hand.”
So they followed him down and seized the fords of the Jordan leading to Moab, and they did not allow anyone to cross over.
29 AND THEY STRUCK DOWN <OBJ.> MOAB AT THE TIME <THE> THAT ABOUT TEN THOUSAND<S> MAN EVERY STOUT [PERSON] AND EVERY MAN OF STRENGTH AND NOT HE ESCAPED ANYONE
29 At that time they struck down about ten thousand Moabites, all robust and valiant men. Not one of them escaped.
30 AND IT WAS SUBDUED MOAB ON THE DAY <THE> THAT UNDER [THE] HAND OF ISRAEL AND IT WAS AT PEACE THE LAND EIGHTY YEAR[S]
30 So Moab was subdued under the hand of Israel that day, and the land had rest for eighty years.
31 AND AFTER HIM HE WAS SHAMGAR [THE] SON OF ANATH AND HE STRUCK DOWN <OBJ.> [THE] PHILISTINES SIX HUNDRED<S> MAN WITH [THE] GOAD OF <THE> CATTLE AND HE DELIVERED ALSO HE <OBJ.> ISRAEL

31 After Ehud came Shamgar son of Anath. And he too saved Israel, striking down six hundred Philistines with an oxgoad.
