14AND [BE] CURSED [ONE WHO] DEALS DECEPTIVELY AND THERE AMONG FLOCK HIS [IS] A MALE AND [ONE WHO] MAKES A VOW AND [ONE WHO] SACRIFICES A BLEMISHED [ANIMAL] TO [THE] LORD FOR [AM] A KING GREAT I HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS AND NAME MY [IS] FEARED AMONG THE NATIONS 14“But cursed is the deceiver who has an acceptable male in his flock and vows to give it, but sacrifices a defective animal to the Lord. For I am a great King,” says the LORD of Hosts, “and My name is to be feared among the nations. [’’]
1AND NOW [IS] TO YOU THE COMMANDMENT <THE> THIS O PRIESTS A Warning to the Priests 1“And now this decree is for you, O priests:
2IF NOT YOU WILL LISTEN AND IF NOT YOU WILL PUT ON HEART TO GIVE HONOR TO NAME MY HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS AND I WILL SEND ON YOU <OBJ.> THE CURSE AND I WILL CURSE <OBJ.> BLESSINGS YOUR AND ALSO I HAVE CURSED IT FOR NOT YOU [ARE] PUTTING ON HEART 2If you do not listen, and if you do not take it to heart to honor My name,” says the LORD of Hosts, “I will send a curse among you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already begun to curse them, because you are not taking it to heart.
3HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO REBUKE OF YOU <OBJ.> THE OFFSPRING AND I WILL SPREAD DUNG ON FACES YOUR [THE] DUNG OF FESTIVALS YOUR AND SOMEONE WILL CARRY AWAY <OBJ.> YOU WITH IT 3Behold, I will rebuke your descendants,*NoteCloseOr I will blight your grain and I will spread dung on your faces, the waste from your feasts, and you will be carried off with it.
4AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT I HAVE SENT TO YOU <OBJ.> THE COMMANDMENT <THE> THIS TO BE COVENANT MY WITH LEVI HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS 4Then you will know that I have sent you this commandment so that My covenant with Levi may continue,” says the LORD of Hosts.
5COVENANT MY IT WAS WITH HIM <THE> LIFE AND <THE> WELL-BEING AND I GAVE THEM TO HIM FEAR AND HE FEARED ME AND <FROM> BECAUSE OF NAME MY HE WAS IN AWE HE 5“My covenant with him was one of life and peace, which I gave to him; it called for reverence, and he revered Me and stood in awe of My name.
6INSTRUCTION OF TRUTH IT WAS IN MOUTH HIS AND UNRIGHTEOUSNESS NOT IT WAS FOUND ON LIPS HIS IN PEACE AND IN UPRIGHTNESS HE WALKED WITH ME AND MANY [PEOPLE] HE TURNED AWAY FROM INIQUITY 6True instruction was in his mouth, and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with Me in peace and uprightness, and he turned many from iniquity.
7FOR [THE] LIPS OF A PRIEST THEY WILL PRESERVE KNOWLEDGE AND INSTRUCTION PEOPLE WILL SEEK FROM MOUTH HIS FOR [IS] [THE] MESSENGER OF YAHWEH OF HOSTS HE 7For the lips of a priest should preserve knowledge, and people should seek instruction from his mouth, because he is the messenger of the LORD of Hosts.
8AND YOU YOU HAVE TURNED ASIDE FROM THE WAY YOU HAVE CAUSED TO STUMBLE MANY [PEOPLE] BY THE INSTRUCTION YOU HAVE CORRUPTED [THE] COVENANT OF <THE> LEVI HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS 8But you have departed from the way, and your instruction has caused many to stumble. You have violated the covenant of Levi,” says the LORD of Hosts.
9AND ALSO I I HAVE MADE <OBJ.> YOU DESPISED AND LOWLY TO ALL THE PEOPLE ACCORDING TO [THE] MOUTH OF THAT NOT YOU [ARE] KEEPING <OBJ.> WAYS MY AND [YOU ARE] LIFTING UP FACES IN <THE> INSTRUCTION 9“So I in turn have made you despised and humiliated before all the people, because you have not kept My ways, but have shown partiality in matters of the law.”
10¿ NOT [DOES] A FATHER ONE [BELONG] TO ALL OF US ¿ NOT GOD ONE DID HE CREATE US WHY? DO WE DEAL TREACHEROUSLY EACH WITH BROTHER HIS TO PROFANE [THE] COVENANT OF ANCESTORS OUR Judah’s Unfaithfulness 10Do we not all have one Father? Did not one God create us? Why then do we break faith with one another so as to profane the covenant of our fathers?
11IT HAS ACTED TREACHEROUSLY JUDAH AND AN ABOMINATION IT HAS BEEN DONE IN ISRAEL AND IN JERUSALEM FOR IT HAS PROFANED JUDAH [THE] SANCTUARY OF YAHWEH WHICH HE LOVES AND IT HAS MARRIED A DAUGHTER OF A GOD OF FOREIGNNESS 11Judah has broken faith; an abomination has been committed in Israel and in Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned the LORD’s beloved sanctuary by marrying the daughter of a foreign god.
12MAY HE CUT OFF YAHWEH <TO> THE PERSON WHO HE DOES IT A PROTECTOR AND [ONE WHO] ANSWERS FROM [THE] TENTS OF JACOB AND [ONE WHO] BRINGS NEAR AN OFFERING TO YAHWEH OF HOSTS 12As for the man who does this, may the LORD cut off from the tents of Jacob everyone who is awake and aware— even if he brings an offering to the LORD of Hosts.
13AND THIS SECOND [THING] YOU DO TO COVER TEAR[S] <OBJ.> [THE] ALTAR OF YAHWEH WEEPING AND GROANING FROM NOT STILL TURNING TO THE OFFERING AND TO TAKE PLEASURE FROM HAND YOUR 13And this is another thing you do: You cover the altar of the LORD with tears, with weeping and groaning, because He no longer regards your offerings or receives them gladly from your hands.
14AND YOU SAY CONCERNING WHAT? ON FOR YAHWEH HE HAS TESTIFIED BETWEEN YOU AND BETWEEN [THE] WIFE OF YOUTH<S> YOUR WHOM YOU YOU HAVE DEALT TREACHEROUSLY WITH HER AND SHE [WAS] COMPANION YOUR AND [THE] WIFE OF COVENANT YOUR 14Yet you ask, “Why It is because the LORD has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have broken faith though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.
15AND NOT ONE HE MADE AND A REMNANT OF SPIRIT TO HIM AND WHAT? [WAS] THE ONE SEEKING OFFSPRING OF GOD AND YOU WILL TAKE HEED IN SPIRIT YOUR AND WITH [THE] WIFE OF YOUTH<S> YOUR MAY NOT ANYONE DEAL TREACHEROUSLY 15Has not the LORD made them one, having a portion of the Spirit And why one? Because He seeks godly offspring. So guard yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith with the wife of your youth.
16FOR HE HATES SENDING AWAY HE SAYS YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL AND HE WILL COVER VIOLENCE OVER CLOTHING HIS HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS AND YOU WILL TAKE HEED IN SPIRIT YOUR AND NOT YOU MUST ACT TREACHEROUSLY 16“For I hate divorce,” says the LORD, the God of Israel. “He who divorces his wife covers his garment with violence,”*NoteCloseOr “For the man who hates his wife and divorces her,” says the LORD, the God of Israel, “covers his garment with violence,” says the LORD of Hosts. So guard yourselves in your spirit and do not break faith.
17YOU HAVE WEARIED YAHWEH WITH WORDS YOUR AND YOU SAY <IN> HOW? DID WE WEARY [HIM] BY SAYING YOU EVERY [ONE WHO] DOES <OF> EVIL [IS] GOOD IN [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH AND IN THEM HE HE DELIGHTS OR WHERE? [IS] [THE] GOD OF <THE> JUSTICE 17You have wearied the LORD with your words; yet you ask, “How have we wearied Him?” By saying, “All who do evil are good in the sight of the LORD, and in them He delights,” or, “Where is the God of justice?”
