41AND THEY FEARED [WITH] FEAR GREAT AND WERE SAYING TO EACH OTHER; WHO THEN THIS IS THAT EVEN THE WIND AND THE SEA IT OBEYS HIM? 41Overwhelmed with fear they asked one another, “Who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him? ”
1AND THEY CAME TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SEA TO THE REGION OF THE GERASENES. The Demons and the Pigs (Matthew 8:28–34; Luke 8:26–39) 1On the other side of the sea, they arrived in the region of the Gerasenes.*NoteCloseBYZ and TR Gadarenes; PT Gergesenes
2AND WHEN WAS EXITING HE OUT OF THE BOAT IMMEDIATELY MET WITH HIM OUT OF THE TOMBS A MAN WITH A SPIRIT UNCLEAN 2As soon as Jesus got out of the boat, He was met by a man with an unclean spirit, who was coming from the tombs.
3WHO THE DWELLING HAD IN THE TOMBS. AND NOT EVEN WITH A CHAIN NO LONGER NO [ONE] WAS ABLE HIM TO BIND 3This man had been living in the tombs and could no longer be restrained even with chains.
4BECAUSE THAT HE OFTEN WITH SHACKLES AND WITH CHAINS TO HAVE BEEN BOUND AND TO HAVE BEEN TORN APART BY HIM THE CHAINS AND THE SHACKLES TO HAVE BEEN SHATTERED, AND NO [ONE] WAS ABLE HIM TO SUBDUE. 4Though he was often bound with chains and shackles, he had broken the chains and shattered the shackles. Now there was no one with the strength to subdue him.
5AND THROUGH ALL [TIMES] NIGHT AND DAY IN THE TOMBS AND IN THE MOUNTAINS HE WAS CRYING OUT AND CUTTING HIMSELF WITH STONES. 5Night and day in the tombs and in the mountains he kept crying out and cutting himself with stones.
6AND HAVING SEEN NOW <THE> JESUS FROM AFAR HE RAN AND HE FELL ON HIS KNEES BEFORE HIM 6When the man saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees before Him.
7AND HAVING CRIED IN A VOICE LOUD HE SPOKE; WHAT TO ME MYSELF AND TO YOU, JESUS, SON <THE> OF GOD THE MOST HIGH? I ADJURE YOU <THE> BY GOD, NOT ME MAY TORMENT. 7And he shouted in a loud voice “What do You want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You before God not to torture me! ”
8HE WAS SAYING FOR TO HIM; DO COME FORTH YOU SPIRIT <THE> UNCLEAN OUT OF THE MAN! 8For Jesus had already declared, “Come out of this man you unclean spirit! ”
9AND HE WAS ASKING HIM; WHAT [IS] [THE] NAME OF YOU AND HE ANSWERED HE SAYS TO HIM; LEGION [IS] NAME TO ME BECAUSE MANY WE ARE. 9“What is your name? ” Jesus asked. “My name is Legion, ” he replied, “for we are many. ”
10AND HE WAS BEGGING HIM NUMEROUS TIMES THAT NOT THEM HE MAY SEND OUT OF THE COUNTRY. 10And he begged Jesus repeatedly not to send them out of that region.
11THERE WAS NOW THERE NEAR THE HILL A HERD OF PIGS GREAT FEEDING; 11There on the nearby hillside a large herd of pigs was feeding.
12AND THEY BEGGED HIM ALL <THE> DEMONS SAYING; DO SEND US INTO THE PIGS SO THAT INTO THEM LET US ENTER. 12So the demons begged Jesus “Send us to the pigs, so that we may enter them. ”
13AND HE ALLOWED THEM IMMEDIATELY <THE> JESUS. AND HAVING GONE OUT THE SPIRITS <THE> UNCLEAN ENTERED INTO THE PIGS, AND RUSHED THE HERD DOWN THE STEEP BANK INTO THE SEA WERE NOW ABOUT TWO THOUSAND AND THEY WERE DROWNED IN THE SEA. 13He gave them permission, and the unclean spirits came out and went into the pigs, and the herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the water.*NoteCloseLiterally and were drowned in the sea
14AND THOSE NOW FEEDING THEM PIGS FLED AND PROCLAIMED [IT] TO THE CITY AND TO THE COUNTRY. AND THEY WENT OUT TO SEE WHAT IT IS THAT HAVING HAPPENED. 14Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and the people went out to see what had happened.
15AND THEY COME TO <THE> JESUS AND SEE THE [MAN] BEING DEMONISED SITTING AND CLOTHED AND SOUND MINDED, THE [ONE] WHO HAVING HAD THE LEGION, AND THEY WERE AFRAID. 15When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of demons sitting there, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.
16AND RELATED NOW TO THEM THOSE HAVING SEEN [IT] HOW IT HAPPENED TO THE [ONE] BEING DEMONISED AND CONCERNING THE PIGS. 16Those who had seen it described what had happened to the demon-possessed man and also to the pigs.
17AND THEY BEGAN TO IMPLORE HIM TO DEPART FROM THE REGION OF THEM. 17And the people began to beg Jesus to leave their region.
18AND WHEN CLIMBING HE INTO THE BOAT WAS BEGGING HIM THE [ONE] HAVING BEEN DEMONISED THAT WITH HIM HE MAY BE. 18As He was getting into the boat, the man who had been possessed by the demons begged to go with Him.
19AND <THE> NOW JESUS NOT HE DID PERMIT HIM, BUT HE SAYS TO HIM; DO GO TO THE HOME OF YOU TO <THE> YOUR OWN AND DO DECLARE TO THEM AS MUCH AS THE LORD FOR YOU HAS DONE AND HE HAD MERCY ON YOU. 19But Jesus would not allow him. “Go home to your own people, ” He said “and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and what mercy He has shown you. ”
20AND HE DEPARTED AND HE BEGAN TO PROCLAIM IN THE DECAPOLIS HOW MUCH DID FOR HIM <THE> JESUS; AND ALL WERE MARVELING. 20So the man went away and began to proclaim throughout the Decapolis*NoteCloseThat is, the Ten Cities how much Jesus had done for him. And everyone was amazed.
21AND WHEN WAS CROSSING <THE> JESUS IN THE BOAT AGAIN TO THE OTHER SIDE WAS GATHERED A CROWD GREAT TO HIM, AND HE WAS BESIDE THE SEA. The Healing Touch of Jesus (Matthew 9:18–26; Luke 8:40–56) 21When Jesus had again crossed by boat to the other side, a large crowd gathered around Him beside the sea.
22AND BEHOLD COMES ONE OF THE SYNAGOGUE RULERS, NAMED JAIRUS; AND HAVING SEEN HIM HE FALLS AT THE FEET OF HIM 22A synagogue leader named Jairus arrived, and seeing Jesus, he fell at His feet
23AND HE BEGS HIM MUCH SAYING THAT THE LITTLE DAUGHTER OF MINE AT THE END IS HOLDING, THAT HAVING COME MAY YOU LAY THE HANDS ON HER SO THAT SHE MAY BE CURED AND SHE MAY LIVE. 23and pleaded with Him urgently “My little daughter is near death. Please come and place Your hands on her, so that she will be healed and live. ”
24AND HE DEPARTED WITH HIM, AND WAS FOLLOWING HIM A CROWD GREAT AND WERE PRESSING IN ON HIM. 24So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd followed and pressed around Him.
25AND A WOMAN ANY BEING WITH A FLUX OF BLOOD TWELVE YEARS 25And a woman was there who had suffered from bleeding for twelve years.
26AND MUCH HAVING SUFFERED UNDER MANY PHYSICIANS AND HAVING SPENT THE OF HER ALL AND IN NO WAY HAVING BENEFITED BUT RATHER TO THE WORSE HAVING COME, 26She had borne much agony under the care of many physicians and had spent all she had, but to no avail. Instead, her condition had only grown worse.
27HAVING HEARD THE [THINGS] CONCERNING <THE> JESUS, HAVING COME UP IN THE CROWD BEHIND [HIM] SHE TOUCHED THE CLOTHING OF HIM; 27When the woman heard about Jesus, she came up through the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak.
28SHE WAS SAYING FOR THAT IF I SHALL TOUCH EVEN THE GARMENTS OF HIM I WILL BE HEALED. 28For she kept saying “If only I touch His garments, I will be healed. ”
29AND IMMEDIATELY WAS DRIED UP THE FLOW OF THE BLOOD OF HER AND SHE KNEW IN THE BODY THAT SHE HAS BEEN HEALED FROM THE AFFLICTION. 29Immediately her bleeding stopped, and she sensed in her body that she was healed of her affliction.
30AND IMMEDIATELY <THE> JESUS HAVING KNOWN IN HIMSELF THE OUT OF HIM POWER HAVING GONE FORTH, HAVING TURNED IN THE CROWD WAS SAYING: WHO OF ME TOUCHED THE GARMENTS? 30At once Jesus was aware that power had gone out from Him. Turning to the crowd, He asked, “Who touched My garments? ”
31AND WERE SAYING TO HIM THE DISCIPLES OF HIM; YOU SEE THE CROWD PRESSING IN ON YOU AND YOU SAY WHO ME TOUCHED? 31His disciples answered “You can see the crowd pressing in on You, and yet You ask, ‘Who touched Me? ’”
32AND HE WAS LOOKING AROUND TO SEE THE [ONE WHO] THIS HAVING DONE. 32But He kept looking around to see who had done this.
33<THE> AND THE WOMAN HAVING BEEN FRIGHTENED AND TREMBLING, KNOW WHAT HAS BEEN DONE UPON TO HER, CAME AND SHE FELL DOWN BEFORE HIM AND SHE TOLD HIM ALL THE TRUTH. 33Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him trembling in fear, and she told Him the whole truth.
34<THE> AND HE SAID TO HER; DAUGHTER, THE FAITH OF YOU HAS HEALED YOU. DO GO IN PEACE AND DO BE HEALTHY FROM THE AFFLICTION OF YOU. 34“Daughter, ” said Jesus “your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be free of your affliction. ”
35STILL WHEN HE IS SPEAKING THEY COME FROM THE RULER OF SYNAGOGUE’S [HOUSE] SAYING THAT THE DAUGHTER OF YOU IS DEAD; WHY STILL TROUBLE YOU THE TEACHER? 35While He was still speaking, messengers from the house of Jairus arrived and said, “Your daughter is dead; why bother the Teacher anymore? ”
36<THE> AND JESUS IMMEDIATELY HAVING IGNORED THE WORD SPOKEN HE SAYS TO THE RULER OF THE SYNAGOGUE; NOT DO FEAR, ONLY DO BELIEVE. 36But Jesus overheard*NoteCloseOr ignored their conversation and said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; just believe. ”
37AND NOT HE ALLOWED NO [ONE] WITH HIM TO FOLLOW ONLY EXCEPT <THE> PETER AND JAMES AND JOHN THE BROTHER OF JAMES. 37And He did not allow anyone to accompany Him except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.
38AND THEY COME TO THE HOUSE OF THE RULER OF THE SYNAGOGUE. AND HE BEHOLDS A COMMOTION AND WEEPING AND WAILING MUCH, 38When they arrived at the house of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw the commotion and the people weeping and wailing loudly.
39AND HAVING ENTERED HE SAYS TO THEM; WHY MAKE YOU COMMOTION AND WEEP? THE CHILD NOT IS DEAD BUT SLEEPS. 39He went inside and asked “Why all this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead, but asleep. ”
40AND THEY WERE LAUGHING AT HIM. HE HIMSELF THEN HAVING PUT OUT ALL TAKES WITH [HIM] THE FATHER OF THE CHILD AND THE MOTHER AND THOSE WITH HIM AND ENTERS IN WHERE WAS THE CHILD RECLINING. 40And they laughed at Him. After He had put them all outside He took the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and went in to see the child.
41AND WHEN TAKING OF THE HAND OF THE CHILD HE SAYS TO HER; TALITHA KOUM! WHICH IS BEING TRANSLATED, O LITTLE GIRL, TO YOU I SAY, DO ARISE. 41Taking her by the hand, Jesus said “Talitha koum! ” which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up! ”
42AND IMMEDIATELY AROSE THE GIRL AND WAS WALKING; SHE WAS FOR OF YEARS TWELVE. AND THEY WERE AMAZED IMMEDIATELY WITH AMAZEMENT GREAT. 42Immediately the girl got up and began to walk around she was twelve years old). And at once they were utterly astounded.
43AND HE INSTRUCTED TO THEM STRICTLY THAT NO ONE MAY KNOW THIS, AND HE COMMANDED TO BE GIVEN TO HER TO EAT. 43Then Jesus gave strict orders that no one should know about this, and He told them to give her something to eat.
