24<THE> GRACE [BE] WITH ALL THOSE LOVING THE LORD OF US JESUS CHRIST IN INCORRUPTIBILITY AMEN. TO EPHESIAN IT WAS WRITTEN FROM ROME THROUGH TYCHICUS. 24Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.
1PAUL AND TIMOTHY SERVANTS OF CHRIST JESUS TO ALL THE SAINTS IN CHRIST JESUS WHO ARE BEING IN PHILIPPI WITH [THE] OVERSEERS AND DEACONS: Greetings from Paul and Timothy (Colossians 1:1–2; Philemon 1:1–3) 1Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus at Philippi, together with the overseers and deacons:
2GRACE TO YOU AND PEACE FROM GOD FATHER OF US AND [THE] LORD JESUS CHRIST. 2Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3I THANK THE GOD OF MINE UPON EVERY THE REMEMBRANCE OF YOU Thanksgiving and Prayer (1 Corinthians 1:4–9; Colossians 1:3–14) 3I thank my God every time I remember you.
4ALWAYS IN EVERY SUPPLICATION OF MINE FOR ALL OF YOU WITH JOY THE SUPPLICATION MAKING 4In every prayer for all of you, I always pray with joy,
5FOR THE PARTNERSHIP OF YOU IN THE GOSPEL FROM THE FIRST DAY UNTIL <THE> NOW; 5because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now,
6HAVING BEEN PERSUADED OF [THE] VERY THING THIS, THAT THE [ONE] HAVING BEGUN IN YOU A WORK GOOD WILL COMPLETE [IT] UNTIL [THE] DAY OF CHRIST JESUS; 6being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
7EVEN AS IT IS RIGHT FOR ME MYSELF THIS TO FEEL ABOUT ALL OF YOU SINCE <THE> HAVING I IN THE HEART YOU, IN BOTH THE CHAINS OF MINE AND IN THE DEFENSE AND IN CONFIRMATION OF THE GOSPEL FELLOW PARTAKERS WITH ME <THE> OF GRACE ALL YOU ARE. 7It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my heart. For in my chains and in my defense and confirmation of the gospel, you are all partners in grace with me.
8WITNESS FOR OF MINE IS <THE> GOD HOW I LONG AFTER ALL YOU IN [THE] AFFECTION OF CHRIST JESUS. 8God is my witness how I long for all of you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
9AND THIS I PRAY, THAT THE LOVE OF YOU YET MORE AND MORE MAY ABOUND IN KNOWLEDGE AND IN ALL DISCERNMENT 9And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,
10FOR <THE> TO APPROVE YOU THE [THINGS] BEING EXCELLENT, SO THAT YOU MAY BE PURE AND BLAMELESS UNTO [THE] DAY OF CHRIST 10so that you may be able to test and prove what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ,
11FILLED WITH [THE] FRUIT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS THAT [IS] THROUGH JESUS CHRIST TO [THE] GLORY AND PRAISE OF GOD. 11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.
12TO KNOW NOW YOU I WANT, BROTHERS, THAT THE [THINGS] CONCERNING ME MYSELF REALLY TO [THE] ADVANCEMENT OF THE GOSPEL HAVE TURNED OUT, Paul’s Trials Advance the Gospel (James 1:2–12) 12Now I want you to know, brothers, that my circumstances have actually served to advance the gospel.
13SO AS FOR THE CHAINS OF MINE CLEARLY KNOWN IN CHRIST TO HAVE BECOME IN ALL THE PALACE GUARD AND TO THE REST ALL 13As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard*NoteCloseOr all the Praetorium and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.
14AND <THE> MOST OF THE BROTHERS IN [THE] LORD ALREADY TRUSTING BY THE CHAINS OF MINE MORE ABUNDANTLY TO DARE FEARLESSLY THE WORD OF THE GOD TO SPEAK. 14And most of the brothers, confident in the Lord by my chains, now dare more greatly to speak the word*NoteCloseNE and WH the word of God without fear.
15SOME INDEED EVEN FROM ENVY AND STRIFE, SOME HOWEVER ALSO FROM GOODWILL <THE> CHRIST ARE PROCLAIMING —. 15It is true that some preach Christ out of envy and rivalry, but others out of goodwill.
16[17] THE [ONES] INDEED OUT OF LOVE KNOWING THAT FOR DEFENSE OF THE GOSPEL I AM APPOINTED; 16The latter do so in love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.*NoteCloseBYZ and TR reverse the order of verses 16 and 17.
17[16] THE [ONES] HOWEVER OUT OF SELFISH AMBITION <THE> CHRIST ARE PROCLAIMING NOT PURELY SUPPOSING TRIBULATION TO ADD TO THE CHAINS OF MINE. 17The former, however, preach Christ out of selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing that they can add to the distress of my chains.
18WHAT THEN? ONLY THAT IN EVERY WAY WHETHER IN PRETEXT OR IN TRUTH CHRIST IS PROCLAIMED, AND IN THIS I REJOICE YES AND I WILL REJOICE. 18What then is the issue?*NoteCloseLiterally What then? Just this: that in every way, whether by false motives or true, Christ is preached. And in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice,
19I KNOW FOR THAT THIS FOR ME WILL TURN OUT TO DELIVERANCE THROUGH <THE> YOUR PRAYER AND [THE] PROVISION OF THE SPIRIT OF JESUS CHRIST 19because I know that through your prayers and the provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, my distress will turn out for my deliverance.
20ACCORDING TO THE EARNEST EXPECTATION AND HOPE OF MINE THAT IN NO [THING] I WILL BE ASHAMED BUT IN ALL BOLDNESS AS ALWAYS ALSO NOW WILL BE MAGNIFIED CHRIST IN THE BODY OF MINE, WHETHER THROUGH LIFE OR THROUGH DEATH. 20I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have complete boldness so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death.
21TO ME MYSELF FOR <THE> TO LIVE [IS] CHRIST AND <THE> TO DIE [IS] GAIN. To Live Is Christ 21For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
22IF [I AM] HOWEVER <THE> TO LIVE IN FLESH, THIS FOR ME [IS THE] FRUIT OF LABOR; AND WHAT WILL I CHOOSE NOT I KNOW! 22But if I go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. So what shall I choose? I do not know.
23I AM PRESSED NOW BETWEEN THE TWO, THE DESIRE HAVING FOR [MYSELF] <THE> TO DEPART AND WITH CHRIST TO BE, VERY MUCH FOR MORE BETTER; 23I am torn between the two. I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better indeed.
24<THE> BUT TO REMAIN IN THE FLESH [IS] MORE NECESSARY FOR THE SAKE OF YOU. 24But it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body.
25AND THIS HAVING BEEN PERSUADED OF I KNOW THAT I WILL REMAIN AND WILL CONTINUE WITH ALL OF YOU FOR <THE> YOUR PROGRESS AND JOY OF THE FAITH, 25Convinced of this, I know that I will remain and will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith,
26SO THAT THE BOASTING OF YOU MAY ABOUND TO CHRIST JESUS IN ME MYSELF THROUGH <THE> MY COMING AGAIN TO YOU. 26so that through my coming to you again your exultation in Christ Jesus will resound on account of me.
27ONLY WORTHILY OF THE GOSPEL <THE> OF CHRIST DO CONDUCT YOURSELVES, SO THAT WHETHER HAVING COME AND HAVING SEEN YOU OR BEING ABSENT I SHALL HEAR THE [THINGS] CONCERNING YOU THAT YOU ARE STANDING FIRM IN ONE SPIRIT, WITH ONE MIND STRIVING TOGETHER FOR THE FAITH OF THE GOSPEL, Worthy of the Gospel 27Nevertheless, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending together as one*NoteCloseOr striving together with one mind for the faith of the gospel,
28AND NOT BEING FRIGHTENED IN NOTHING BY THOSE OPPOSING [YOU]; WHICH IS TO THEM INDEED A DEMONSTRATION OF DESTRUCTION, TO YOU HOWEVER OF SALVATION, AND THIS FROM GOD; 28without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a clear sign of their destruction but of your salvation, and it is from God.
29FOR TO YOU IT HAS BEEN GRANTED <THE> CONCERNING CHRIST, NOT ONLY <THE> IN HIM TO BELIEVE, BUT ALSO <THE> CONCERNING HIM TO SUFFER 29For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him,
30THE SAME CONFLICT HAVING SUCH AS YOU SAW IN ME MYSELF AND NOW YOU HEAR OF IN ME MYSELF. 30since you are encountering the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have.
