3[ONE WHO] GUARDS MOUTH HIS [IS] PROTECTING LIFE HIS [ONE WHO] OPENS LIPS HIS RUIN [BELONGS] TO HIM 3He who guards his mouth protects his life, but the one who opens his lips invites his own ruin
4[IS] COVETING AND NOTHING APPETITE HIS A SLUGGARD AND [THE] APPETITE OF DILIGENT [PEOPLE] IT WILL BE MADE FAT 4The slacker craves yet has nothing, but the soul of the diligent is fully satisfied.
5A WORD OF FALSEHOOD HE HATES A RIGHTEOUS [PERSON] AND A WICKED [PERSON] HE ACTS ODIOUSLY AND HE MAY ACT SHAMEFULLY 5The righteous hate falsehood, but the wicked bring shame and disgrace.
6RIGHTEOUSNESS IT PRESERVES INTEGRITY OF WAY AND WICKEDNESS IT SUBVERTS SIN 6Righteousness guards the man of integrity, but wickedness undermines the sinner.
7THERE [IS ONE WHO] ENRICHES HIMSELF AND THERE NOT [IS] ANYTHING [ONE WHO] IMPOVERISHES HIMSELF AND WEALTH GREAT 7One pretends to be rich, but has nothing; another pretends to be poor, yet has great wealth.
8[THE] RANSOM OF [THE] LIFE OF A PERSON [IS] WEALTH HIS AND A POOR [PERSON] NOT HE HEARS A THREAT 8Riches may ransom a man’s life, but a poor man hears no threat.
9[THE] LIGHT OF RIGHTEOUS [PEOPLE] IT REJOICES AND [THE] LAMP OF WICKED [PEOPLE] IT IS EXTINGUISHED 9The light of the righteous shines brightly, but the lamp of the wicked is extinguished.
10ONLY WITH PRIDE IT GIVES CONTENTION AND [IS] WITH [THOSE WHO] RECEIVE ADVICE WISDOM 10Arrogance leads only to strife, but wisdom is with the well-advised.
11WEALTH FROM VANITY IT WILL BECOME SMALL AND [ONE WHO] GATHERS ON HAND HE WILL INCREASE 11Dishonest wealth will dwindle, but what is earned through hard work will be multiplied.
12HOPE DEFERRED [IS] MAKING SICK [THE] HEART AND [IS] A TREE OF LIFE A DESIRE [WHICH] COMES 12Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
13[ONE WHO] DESPISES <TO> A WORD HE WILL BE PLEDGED TO IT AND [ONE] FEARING <OF> A COMMANDMENT HE HE WILL BE REWARDED 13He who despises instruction will pay the penalty but the one who respects a command will be rewarded.
14[THE] INSTRUCTION OF A WISE [PERSON] [IS] A FOUNTAIN OF LIFE TO TURN ASIDE FROM [THE] SNARES OF DEATH 14The teaching*NoteCloseOr law of the wise is a fountain of life, turning one from the snares of death.
15INSIGHT GOOD IT GIVES FAVOR AND [THE] WAY OF TREACHEROUS [PEOPLE] [IS] ENDURING 15Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the faithless is difficult.
16EVERY SENSIBLE [PERSON] HE ACTS WITH KNOWLEDGE AND A FOOL HE SPREADS OUT FOOLISHNESS 16Every prudent man acts with knowledge, but a fool displays his folly.
17A MESSENGER WICKED HE FALLS IN TROUBLE AND AN ENVOY OF FAITHFULNESS<ES> [IS] HEALING 17A wicked messenger falls into trouble, but a faithful envoy brings healing.
18POVERTY AND SHAME [ONE WHO] IGNORES DISCIPLINE AND [ONE WHO] KEEPS CORRECTION HE IS HONORED 18Poverty and shame come to him who ignores discipline, but whoever heeds correction is honored.
19A DESIRE DONE <IT> IS PLEASING TO A PERSON AND [IS] AN ABOMINATION OF FOOLS TO TURN ASIDE FROM EVIL 19Desire fulfilled is sweet to the soul, but turning from evil is detestable to fools.
20[ONE WHO] WALKS WITH WISE [PEOPLE] HE WILL BECOME WISE AND [ONE WHO] ASSOCIATES WITH FOOLS HE WILL BE HARMED 20He who walks with the wise will become wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed.
21SINNERS IT PURSUES CALAMITY AND <OBJ.> RIGHTEOUS [PEOPLE] IT REWARDS GOOD 21Disaster pursues sinners, but prosperity is the reward of the righteous.
22A GOOD [PERSON] HE LEAVES AN INHERITANCE TO CHILDREN OF CHILDREN AND [IS] STORED UP FOR THE RIGHTEOUS [THE] WEALTH OF A SINNER 22A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the sinner’s wealth is passed to the righteous.
23ABUNDANCE OF FOOD [THE] UNPLOWED GROUND OF POOR [PEOPLE] AND THERE [IS WHAT] IS SWEPT AWAY IN NOT JUSTICE 23Abundant food is in the fallow ground of the poor, but without justice it is swept away.
24[ONE WHO] RESTRAINS ROD HIS [IS] HATING SON HIS AND [ONE WHO] LOVES HIM HE SEEKS EARLY HIM DISCIPLINE 24He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him diligently.
25A RIGHTEOUS [PERSON] [IS] EATING TO [THE] SATIETY OF APPETITE HIS AND [THE] BELLY OF WICKED [PEOPLE] IT IS LACKING 25A righteous man eats to his heart’s content, but the stomach of the wicked is empty.
