2LET THEM SAY [THE] REDEEMED OF YAHWEH WHOM HE HAS REDEEMED THEM FROM [THE] HAND OF [THE] OPPONENT 2Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy
3AND FROM [THE] LANDS HE HAS GATHERED THEM FROM EAST AND FROM WEST FROM NORTH AND FROM [THE] SEA 3and gathered from the lands, from east and west, from north and south.*NoteCloseHebrew north and the sea
4THEY WANDERED ABOUT IN THE WILDERNESS IN A DESOLATE PLACE OF A WAY A CITY OF DWELLING NOT THEY FOUND 4Some wandered in desert wastelands, finding no path to a city in which to dwell.
5HUNGRY ALSO THIRSTY LIFE THEIR IN THEM IT WAS FAINTING AWAY 5They were hungry and thirsty; their soul fainted within them.
6AND THEY CRIED OUT TO YAHWEH WHEN <THE> IT WAS DISTRESS TO THEM FROM TROUBLES THEIR HE DELIVERED THEM 6Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He delivered them from their distress.
7AND HE LED THEM BY A WAY STRAIGHT TO GO TO A CITY OF DWELLING 7He led them on a straight path to reach a city where they could live.
8LET THEM GIVE THANKS TO YAHWEH COVENANT LOYALTY HIS AND WONDERS HIS TO [THE] CHILDREN OF HUMANKIND 8Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the sons of men.
9FOR HE SATISFIES A THROAT LONGING AND A THROAT HUNGRY HE FILLS GOOD THING[S] 9For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.
10[THOSE WHO] SAT OF DARKNESS AND DEEP DARKNESS PRISONERS OF AFFLICTION AND IRON 10Some sat in darkness and in the shadow of death, prisoners in affliction and chains,
11FOR THEY HAD REBELLED AGAINST [THE] WORDS OF GOD AND [THE] COUNSEL OF [THE] MOST HIGH THEY HAD SPURNED 11because they rebelled against the words of God and despised the counsel of the Most High.
12AND HE HUMBLED WITH <THE> TROUBLE HEART THEIR THEY STUMBLED AND THERE NOT [WAS] A HELPER 12He humbled their hearts with hard labor; they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
13AND THEY CRIED OUT TO YAHWEH WHEN <THE> IT WAS DISTRESS TO THEM FROM TROUBLES THEIR HE SAVED THEM 13Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress.
14HE BROUGHT OUT THEM FROM DARKNESS AND DEEP DARKNESS AND FETTERS THEIR HE TORE APART 14He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death and broke away their chains.
15LET THEM GIVE THANKS TO YAHWEH COVENANT LOYALTY HIS AND WONDERS HIS TO [THE] CHILDREN OF HUMANKIND 15Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the sons of men.
16FOR HE BREAKS DOWN GATES OF BRONZE AND BARS OF IRON HE CUTS DOWN 16For He has broken down the gates of bronze and cut through the bars of iron.
17FOOLS FROM [THE] WAY OF TRANSGRESSION THEIR AND FROM INIQUITIES THEIR THEY WERE AFFLICTED 17Fools, in their rebellious ways, and through their iniquities, suffered affliction.
18ALL FOOD IT LOATHED THROAT THEIR AND THEY REACHED TO [THE] GATES OF DEATH 18They loathed all food and drew near to the gates of death.
19AND THEY CRIED OUT TO YAHWEH WHEN <THE> IT WAS DISTRESS TO THEM FROM TROUBLES THEIR HE SAVED THEM 19Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He saved them from their distress.
20HE SENT WORD HIS AND HE HEALED THEM AND HE MAY DELIVER [THEM] FROM PITS THEIR 20He sent forth His word and healed them; He rescued them from the Pit.
21LET THEM GIVE THANKS TO YAHWEH COVENANT LOYALTY HIS AND WONDERS HIS TO [THE] CHILDREN OF HUMANKIND 21Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the sons of men.
22AND LET THEM SACRIFICE SACRIFICES OF THANKSGIVING AND LET THEM RECOUNT WORKS HIS WITH A SHOUT OF JOY 22Let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving and declare His works with rejoicing.
23[THOSE WHO] WENT DOWN <OF> THE SEA IN SHIPS [THOSE WHO] DID <OF> BUSINESS ON [THE] WATERS MANY 23Others went out to sea in ships, conducting trade on the mighty waters.
24THEY THEY SAW [THE] WORKS OF YAHWEH AND WONDERS HIS IN [THE] DEEP 24They saw the works of the LORD, and His wonders in the deep.
25AND HE SPOKE AND HE APPOINTED A WIND OF A STORM AND IT LIFTED UP WAVES ITS 25For He spoke and raised a tempest that lifted the waves of the sea.
26THEY WENT UP [THE] HEAVENS THEY WENT DOWN [THE] DEEPS SOUL THEIR IN DISTRESS IT MELTED 26They mounted up to the heavens, then sunk to the depths; their courage melted in their anguish.
27THEY STAGGERED AND THEY MAY TREMBLED LIKE <THE> DRUNKARD AND ALL SKILL THEIR IT WAS CONFUSED 27They reeled and staggered like drunkards, and all their skill was useless.*NoteCloseOr and all their wisdom was swallowed up or and they were at their wits’ end
28AND THEY CRIED OUT TO YAHWEH WHEN <THE> IT WAS DISTRESS TO THEM AND FROM TROUBLES THEIR HE BROUGHT OUT THEM 28Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress.
29HE RAISED [THE] STORM INTO A CALM AND THEY WERE STILL WAVES THEIR 29He calmed the storm to a whisper, and the waves of the sea*NoteCloseDSS; MT their waves were hushed.
30AND THEY REJOICED FOR THEY WERE QUIET AND HE GUIDED THEM TO [THE] HARBOR OF DESIRE THEIR 30They rejoiced in the silence, and He guided them to the harbor they desired.
31LET THEM GIVE THANKS TO YAHWEH COVENANT LOYALTY HIS AND WONDERS HIS TO [THE] CHILDREN OF HUMANKIND 31Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the sons of men.
32AND LET THEM EXALT HIM IN [THE] ASSEMBLY OF [THE] PEOPLE AND IN [THE] SEAT OF [THE] ELDERS LET THEM PRAISE HIM 32Let them exalt Him in the assembly of the people and praise Him in the council of the elders.
33HE MADE RIVERS INTO A WILDERNESS AND SPRINGS OF WATER INTO THIRSTY GROUND 33He turns rivers into deserts, springs of water into thirsty ground,
34A LAND OF FRUIT INTO SALTINESS FROM [THE] EVIL OF [THOSE WHO] DWELL IN IT 34and fruitful land into fields of salt, because of the wickedness of its dwellers
35HE MADE A WILDERNESS INTO A POOL OF WATER AND A LAND DRY INTO SPRINGS OF WATER 35He turns a desert into pools of water and a dry land into flowing springs.
36AND HE CAUSED TO DWELL THERE HUNGRY [PEOPLE] AND THEY ESTABLISHED A CITY OF DWELLING 36He causes the hungry to settle there, that they may establish a city in which to dwell.
37AND THEY SOWED FIELDS AND THEY PLANTED VINEYARDS AND THEY PRODUCED FRUIT OF PRODUCE 37They sow fields and plant vineyards that yield a fruitful harvest.
38AND HE BLESSED THEM AND THEY MULTIPLIED EXCEEDINGLY AND CATTLE THEIR NOT HE MADE FEW 38He blesses them, and they multiply greatly; He does not let their herds diminish.
39AND THEY BECAME FEW AND THEY WERE BOWED DOWN FROM [THE] PRESSURE OF CALAMITY AND SORROW 39When they are decreased and humbled by oppression, evil, and sorrow,
40[HE WAS] POURING OUT CONTEMPT ON NOBLE [PEOPLE] AND HE MADE WANDER THEM IN A WASTELAND NOT A WAY 40He pours out contempt on the nobles and makes them wander in a trackless wasteland.
41AND HE SET ON HIGH [THE] NEEDY FROM AFFLICTION AND HE MADE LIKE <THE> FLOCK FAMILIES 41But He lifts the needy from affliction and increases their families like flocks.
42THEY SEE UPRIGHT [PEOPLE] SO THEY MAY REJOICE AND ALL UNRIGHTEOUSNESS IT SHUTS MOUTH ITS 42The upright see and rejoice, and all iniquity shuts its mouth.
43WHO? [IS] WISE AND LET HIM OBSERVE THESE [THINGS] AND LET THEM CONSIDER CAREFULLY [THE] COVENANT LOYALTI<ES> OF YAHWEH 43Let him who is wise pay heed to these things and consider the loving devotion of the LORD.
