1PRAISE YAHWEH GIVE THANKS TO YAHWEH FOR [HE IS] GOOD FOR [IS] FOR EVER COVENANT LOYALTY HIS Give Thanks to the LORD, for He Is Good 1Hallelujah!*NoteCloseOr Hallelu YAH, meaning Praise the LORD; also in verse 48 Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good; His loving devotion endures forever.
2WHO? WILL HE TELL [THE] MIGHTY DEEDS OF YAHWEH WILL HE PROCLAIM? ALL PRAISE HIS 2Who can describe the mighty acts of the LORD or fully proclaim His praise?
3HOW BLESSED! [ARE THOSE WHO] OBSERVE <OF> JUSTICE [ONE WHO] DOES <OF> RIGHTEOUSNESS AT EVERY TIME 3Blessed are those who uphold justice, who practice righteousness at all times.
4REMEMBER ME O YAHWEH WITH [THE] FAVOR OF PEOPLE YOUR VISIT ME WITH SALVATION YOUR 4Remember me, O LORD, in Your favor to Your people; visit me with Your salvation,
5TO LOOK ON [THE] GOOD THING[S] OF CHOSEN ONES YOUR TO REJOICE IN [THE] JOY OF NATION YOUR TO BOAST WITH INHERITANCE YOUR 5that I may see the prosperity of Your chosen ones, and rejoice in the gladness of Your nation, and give glory with Your inheritance.
6WE HAVE SINNED WITH ANCESTORS OUR WE HAVE DONE WRONG WE HAVE ACTED WICKEDLY 6We have sinned like our fathers; we have done wrong and acted wickedly.
7ANCESTORS OUR IN EGYPT NOT THEY CONSIDERED WONDERS YOUR NOT THEY REMEMBERED <OBJ.> [THE] GREATNESS OF COVENANT LOYALTI<ES> YOUR AND THEY REBELLED AT [THE] SEA AT [THE] SEA OF REED[S] 7Our fathers in Egypt did not grasp Your wonders or remember Your abundant kindness; but they rebelled by the sea, there at the Red Sea.*NoteCloseOr the Sea of Reeds; also in verses 9 and 22
8AND HE SAVED THEM FOR [THE] SAKE OF NAME HIS TO MAKE KNOWN <OBJ.> MIGHT HIS 8Yet He saved them for the sake of His name, to make His power known.
9AND HE REBUKED <IN> [THE] SEA OF REED[S] AND IT DRIED UP AND HE LED THEM IN THE DEEPS LIKE THE WILDERNESS 9He rebuked the Red Sea, and it dried up; He led them through the depths as through a desert.
10AND HE SAVED THEM FROM [THE] HAND OF [ONE WHO] HATED AND HE REDEEMED THEM FROM [THE] HAND OF AN ENEMY 10He saved them from the hand that hated them; He redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
11AND THEY COVERED [THE] WATERS OPPONENTS THEIR ONE FROM THEM NOT HE WAS LEFT 11The waters covered their foes; not one of them remained.
12AND THEY BELIEVED <IN> WORDS HIS THEY SANG PRAISE HIS 12Then they believed His promises and sang His praise.
13THEY MADE HASTE THEY FORGOT WORKS HIS NOT THEY WAITED FOR COUNSEL HIS 13Yet they soon forgot His works and failed to wait for His counsel.
14AND THEY CRAVED A CRAVING IN THE WILDERNESS AND THEY PUT TO [THE] TEST GOD IN A DESOLATE PLACE 14They craved intensely in the wilderness and tested God in the desert.
15AND HE GAVE TO THEM PETITION THEIR AND HE SENT A WASTING DISEASE ON SELF THEIR 15So He granted their request, but sent a wasting disease upon them.
16AND THEY WERE ENVIOUS OF MOSES IN THE CAMP OF AARON [THE] HOLY [ONE] OF YAHWEH 16In the camp they envied Moses, as well as Aaron, the holy one of the LORD.
17IT OPENED [THE] EARTH AND IT SWALLOWED UP DATHAN AND IT COVERED OVER [THE] COMPANY OF ABIRAM 17The earth opened up and swallowed Dathan; it covered the assembly of Abiram.
18AND IT BURNED FIRE AMONG COMPANY THEIR FLAME IT BURNED UP [THE] WICKED [PEOPLE] 18Then fire blazed through their company; flames consumed the wicked.
19THEY MADE A CALF AT HOREB AND THEY BOWED DOWN TO A MOLTEN IMAGE 19At Horeb*NoteCloseThat is, Mount Sinai, or possibly a mountain in the range containing Mount Sinai they made a calf and worshiped a molten image.
20AND THEY EXCHANGED <OBJ.> GLORY THEIR FOR AN IMAGE OF AN OX [WHICH] EATS VEGETATION 20They exchanged their Glory*NoteCloseOr their glorious God for the image of a grass-eating ox.
21THEY FORGOT GOD DELIVERER THEIR [WHO] DID GREAT [THINGS] IN EGYPT 21They forgot God their Savior, who did great things in Egypt,
22WONDERS IN [THE] LAND OF HAM AWESOME [DEEDS] AT [THE] SEA OF REED[S] 22wondrous works in the land of Ham, and awesome deeds by the Red Sea.
23AND HE SAID TO DESTROY THEM IF NOT MOSES CHOSEN ONE HIS HE HAD STOOD IN THE BREACH <TO> BEFORE HIM TO TURN BACK ANGER HIS FROM DESTROYING 23So He said He would destroy them— had not Moses His chosen one stood before Him in the breach to divert His wrath from destroying them.
24AND THEY REJECTED <IN> [THE] LAND OF DESIRE NOT THEY BELIEVED <TO> WORD HIS 24They despised the pleasant land; they did not believe His promise.
25AND THEY MURMURED IN TENTS THEIR NOT THEY LISTENED TO [THE] VOICE OF YAHWEH 25They grumbled in their tents and did not listen to the voice of the LORD.
26AND HE RAISED HAND HIS TO THEM TO MAKE FALL <OBJ.> THEM IN THE WILDERNESS 26So He raised His hand and swore to cast them down in the wilderness,
27AND TO MAKE FALL OFFSPRING THEIR AMONG THE NATIONS AND TO SCATTER THEM AMONG THE LANDS 27to disperse*NoteCloseOr cast down or cause to fall their offspring among the nations and scatter them throughout the lands.
28AND THEY JOINED THEMSELVES TO BAAL PEOR AND THEY ATE SACRIFICES OF DEAD [ONES] 28They yoked themselves to Baal of Peor and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods.
29AND THEY PROVOKED TO ANGER BY DEEDS THEIR AND IT BROKE OUT AMONG THEM A PLAGUE 29So they provoked the LORD to anger with their deeds, and a plague broke out among them.
30AND HE STOOD UP PHINEHAS AND HE MEDIATED AND IT WAS RESTRAINED THE PLAGUE 30But Phinehas stood and intervened, and the plague was restrained.
31AND IT WAS RECKONED TO HIM TO RIGHTEOUSNESS TO A GENERATION AND A GENERATION UNTIL PERPETUITY 31It was credited to him as righteousness for endless generations to come.
32AND THEY PROVOKED TO ANGER AT [THE] WATERS OF MERIBAH AND IT WAS BAD FOR MOSES BECAUSE OF THEM 32At the waters of Meribah*NoteCloseMeribah means quarreling; see Exodus 17:7. they angered the LORD, and trouble came to Moses because of them.
33FOR THEY REBELLED TOWARD <OBJ.> SPIRIT HIS AND HE SPOKE RASHLY WITH LIPS HIS 33For they rebelled against His Spirit,*NoteCloseOr they provoked His Spirit and Moses spoke rashly with his lips.
34NOT THEY DESTROYED <OBJ.> THE PEOPLES WHICH HE HAD SAID YAHWEH TO THEM 34They did not destroy the peoples as the LORD had commanded them,
35AND THEY MIXED THEMSELVES WITH THE NATIONS AND THEY LEARNED DEEDS THEIR 35but they mingled with the nations and adopted their customs.
36AND THEY SERVED <OBJ.> IDOLS THEIR AND THEY BECAME FOR THEM <INTO> A SNARE 36They worshiped their idols, which became a snare to them.
37AND THEY SACRIFICED <OBJ.> SONS THEIR AND <OBJ.> DAUGHTERS THEIR TO <THE> DEMONS 37They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons.
38AND THEY SHED BLOOD INNOCENT [THE] BLOOD OF SONS THEIR AND DAUGHTERS THEIR WHOM THEY SACRIFICED TO [THE] IDOLS OF CANAAN AND IT WAS POLLUTED THE LAND BY THE BLOOD<S> 38They shed innocent blood— the blood of their sons and daughters, whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan, and the land was polluted with blood.
39AND THEY BECAME UNCLEAN BY WORKS THEIR AND THEY PLAYED [THE] PROSTITUTE BY DEEDS THEIR 39They defiled themselves by their actions and prostituted themselves by their deeds.
40AND IT BURNED [THE] ANGER OF YAHWEH ON PEOPLE HIS AND HE ABHORRED <OBJ.> INHERITANCE HIS 40So the anger of the LORD burned against His people, and He abhorred His own inheritance.
41AND HE GAVE THEM IN [THE] HAND OF NATIONS AND THEY RULED OVER THEM [THOSE WHO] HATED THEM 41He delivered them into the hand of the nations, and those who hated them ruled over them.
42AND THEY OPPRESSED THEM ENEMIES THEIR AND THEY WERE HUMBLED UNDER HAND THEIR 42Their enemies oppressed them and subdued them under their hand.
43TIMES MANY HE DELIVERED THEM AND THEY THEY REBELLED BY PLAN[S] THEIR AND THEY SANK BY INIQUITY THEIR 43Many times He rescued them, but they were bent on rebellion and sank down in their iniquity.
44AND HE SAW WHEN <THE> IT WAS DISTRESS TO THEM WHEN HEARD HE <OBJ.> CRY OF ENTREATY THEIR 44Nevertheless He heard their cry; He took note of their distress.
45AND HE REMEMBERED TO THEM COVENANT HIS AND HE RELENTED ACCORDING TO [THE] GREATNESS OF COVENANT LOYALTI<ES> HIS 45And He remembered His covenant with them, and relented by the abundance of His loving devotion.
46AND HE MADE <OBJ.> THEM INTO COMPASSION<S> <TO> BEFORE ALL CAPTORS THEIR 46He made them objects of compassion to all who held them captive.
47SAVE US O YAHWEH GOD OUR AND GATHER US FROM THE NATIONS TO GIVE THANKS TO [THE] NAME OF HOLINESS YOUR TO BOAST IN PRAISE YOUR 47Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from the nations, that we may give thanks to Your holy name, that we may glory in Your praise.
48[BE] BLESSED YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL FROM <THE> ANTIQUITY AND UNTIL <THE> PERPETUITY AND IT WILL SAY ALL THE PEOPLE AMEN PRAISE YAHWEH 48Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Let all the people say, “Amen!” Hallelujah!
