20THEY ARE FINISHED [THE] PRAYERS OF DAVID [THE] SON OF JESSE 20Thus conclude the prayers of David son of Jesse.
1SURELY [IS] GOOD TO ISRAEL GOD TO [PEOPLE] PURE OF HEART 1Surely God is good to Israel, to those who are pure in heart.
2AND I LIKE A LITTLE THEY HAD TURNED ASIDE FEET MY LIKE NOTHING THEY HAD BEEN POURED OUT STEPS MY 2But as for me, my feet had almost stumbled; my steps had nearly slipped.
3FOR I WAS JEALOUS OF THE BOASTERS [THE] WELL-BEING OF WICKED [PEOPLE] I SAW 3For I envied the arrogant when I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4THAT THERE NOT [ARE] PANGS TO DEATH THEIR AND [IS] FAT BODY THEIR 4They have no struggle in their death; their bodies are well-fed.
5[ARE] IN [THE] TROUBLE OF HUMANKIND NOT THEY AND WITH HUMANKIND NOT THEY ARE STRICKEN 5They are free of the burdens others carry; they are not afflicted like other men.
6<TO> THEREFORE [IT IS] A NECKLACE [FOR] THEM PRIDE IT COVERS A GARMENT OF VIOLENCE <TO> THEM 6Therefore pride is their necklace; a garment of violence covers them.
7IT COMES OUT FROM FAT EYE THEIR THEY PASS OVER [THE] IMAGINATIONS OF HEART 7From their prosperity proceeds iniquity;*NoteCloseLiterally Their eye bulges with fatness; Syriac From their callous heart proceeds iniquity the imaginations of their hearts run wild.
8THEY MOCK AND THEY MAY SPEAK WITH EVIL OPPRESSION FROM A HIGH PLACE THEY SPEAK 8They mock and speak with malice; with arrogance they threaten oppression.
9THEY SET IN THE HEAVENS MOUTH THEIR AND TONGUE THEIR IT WALKS ON THE EARTH 9They set their mouths against the heavens, and their tongues strut across the earth.
10<TO> THEREFORE IT TURNS BACK PEOPLE HIS HERE AND WATERS OF FULL THEY ARE DRAINED BY THEM 10So their people*NoteCloseOr His people return to this place and drink up waters in abundance.
11AND THEY SAY HOW? DOES HE KNOW GOD AND [IS] THERE? KNOWLEDGE WITH [THE] MOST HIGH 11The wicked say, “How can God know? Does the Most High have knowledge?”
12HERE! THESE [ARE] WICKED [PEOPLE] AND [PEOPLE] AT EASE OF PERPETUITY THEY INCREASE WEALTH 12Behold, these are the wicked— always carefree as they increase their wealth.
13SURELY VANITY I HAVE KEPT PURE HEART MY AND I HAVE WASHED IN INNOCENCE HANDS MY 13Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure; in innocence I have washed my hands.
14AND I HAVE BEEN STRICKEN ALL THE DAY AND REBUKE MY [HAS BEEN] TO THE MORNINGS 14For I am afflicted all day long and punished every morning.
15IF I HAD SAID I WILL SPEAK LIKE HERE! [THE] GENERATION OF CHILDREN YOUR I DEALT TREACHEROUSLY WITH 15If I had said, “I will speak this way,” then I would have betrayed Your children.
16AND I THOUGHT! TO KNOW THIS [WAS] TROUBLE IT IN VIEW MY 16When I tried to understand all this, it was troublesome in my sight
17UNTIL I WENT INTO [THE] SANCTUARI<ES> OF GOD I CONSIDERED <TO> END THEIR 17until I entered God’s sanctuary; then I discerned their end.
18SURELY ON SLIPPERY [PLACES] YOU SET <TO> THEM YOU MAKE FALL THEM TO DECEPTIONS 18Surely You set them on slick ground; You cast them down into ruin.
19HOW! THEY HAVE BECOME <INTO> A WASTE LIKE A MOMENT THEY COME TO AN END THEY ARE FINISHED FROM SUDDEN TERROR<S> 19How suddenly they are laid waste, completely swept away by terrors!
20LIKE A DREAM FROM WHEN AWAKES O LORD WHEN WAKEN IMAGE THEIR YOU WILL DESPISE 20Like one waking from a dream, so You, O Lord, awaken and despise their form.
21IF IT WAS EMBITTERED HEART MY AND KIDNEYS MY I WAS PIERCED 21When my heart was grieved and I was pierced within,
22AND I [WAS] STUPID AND NOT I KNEW ANIMALS I WAS WITH YOU 22I was senseless and ignorant; I was a brute beast before You.
23AND I CONTINUALLY [AM] WITH YOU YOU TAKE HOLD ON [THE] HAND OF RIGHT MY 23Yet I am always with You; You hold my right hand.
24WITH COUNSEL YOUR YOU GUIDE ME AND AFTER HONOR YOU WILL TAKE ME 24You guide me with Your counsel, and later receive me in glory.
25WHO? [BELONGS] TO ME IN THE HEAVENS AND WITH YOU NOT I TAKE PLEASURE ON THE EARTH 25Whom have I in heaven but You? And on earth I desire no one besides You.
26IT HAD COME TO AN END FLESH MY AND HEART MY [IS] [THE] ROCK OF HEART MY AND PORTION MY GOD FOR EVER 26My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength*NoteCloseHebrew rock of my heart and my portion forever.
27FOR THERE! [PEOPLE] FAR FROM YOU THEY WILL PERISH YOU DESTROY EVERY [ONE WHO] ACTS AS A PROSTITUTE FROM YOU 27Those far from You will surely perish; You destroy all who are unfaithful to You.
28AND I [THE] APPROACH OF GOD FOR ME [IS] GOOD I HAVE MADE IN [THE] LORD YAHWEH REFUGE MY TO RECOUNT ALL WORKS YOUR 28But as for me, it is good to draw near to God. I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, that I may proclaim all Your works.
