12AND I WILL MAKE STRONG THEM BY YAHWEH AND IN NAME HIS THEY WILL GO ABOUT [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 12I will strengthen them in the LORD, and in His name they will walk,” declares the LORD.
1OPEN O LEBANON DOORS YOUR SO IT MAY CONSUME FIRE <IN> CEDARS YOUR The Doomed Flock 1Open your doors, O Lebanon, that the fire may consume your cedars!
2WAIL O CYPRESS FOR IT HAS FALLEN A CEDAR THAT MAJESTIC [TREES] THEY HAVE BEEN DEVASTATED WAIL O OAKS OF BASHAN FOR IT HAS COME DOWN [THE] FOREST OF THE VINTAGE 2Wail, O cypress,*NoteCloseOr pine or juniper or fir for the cedar has fallen; the majestic trees are ruined! Wail, O oaks of Bashan, for the dense forest has been cut down!
3[THE] SOUND OF [THE] WAILING OF THE SHEPHERDS FOR IT HAS BEEN DEVASTATED SPLENDOR THEIR [THE] SOUND OF [THE] ROARING OF YOUNG LIONS FOR IT HAS BEEN DEVASTATED [THE] THICKET[S] OF THE JORDAN 3Listen to the wailing of the shepherds, for their glory is in ruins. Listen to the roaring of the young lions, for the thickets of the Jordan are destroyed.
4THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH GOD MY SHEPHERD <OBJ.> [THE] FLOCK OF <THE> SLAUGHTER 4This is what the LORD my God says: “Pasture the flock marked for slaughter,
5WHICH [THOSE WHO] BUY THEM THEY WILL KILL THEM AND NOT THEY WILL BE HELD GUILTY AND [THOSE WHO] SELL THEM HE WILL SAY [BE] BLESSED YAHWEH SO I MAY GAIN RICHES AND SHEPHERDS THEIR NOT HE WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON THEM 5whose buyers slaughter them without remorse. Those who sell them say, ‘Blessed be the LORD, for I am rich!’ Even their own shepherds have no compassion on them.
6FOR NOT I WILL HAVE COMPASSION AGAIN ON [THE] INHABITANTS OF THE LAND [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH AND HERE! I [AM] ABOUT TO DELIVER <OBJ.> <THE> EVERYONE EACH IN [THE] HAND OF NEIGHBOR HIS AND IN [THE] HAND OF KING HIS AND THEY WILL CRUSH <OBJ.> THE LAND AND NOT I WILL DELIVER [IT] FROM HAND THEIR 6For I will no longer have compassion on the people of the land, declares the LORD, but behold, I will cause each man to fall into the hands of his neighbor and his king, who will devastate the land, and I will not deliver it from their hands.”
7AND I SHEPHERDED <OBJ.> [THE] FLOCK OF <THE> SLAUGHTER <TO> THEREFORE [THE] AFFLICTED [ONES] OF THE FLOCK AND I TOOK FOR MYSELF TWO STAFFS <TO> ONE I CALLED FAVOR AND <TO> ONE I CALLED UNION AND I SHEPHERDED <OBJ.> THE FLOCK 7So I pastured the flock marked for slaughter, especially the afflicted of the flock. Then I took for myself two staffs, calling one Favor and the other Union, and I pastured the flock.
8AND I ANNIHILATED <OBJ.> [THE] THREE THE SHEPHERDS IN A MONTH ONE AND IT WAS SHORT SELF MY WITH THEM AND ALSO SELF THEIR IT LOATHED <IN> ME 8And in one month I dismissed three shepherds. My soul grew impatient with the flock, and their souls also detested me.
9AND I SAID NOT I WILL SHEPHERD <OBJ.> YOU THE [ONE WHICH] DIES LET IT DIE AND THE [ONE WHICH] IS BEING DESTROYED LET IT BE DESTROYED AND THOSE [WHICH] SURVIVE LET THEM DEVOUR EACH <OBJ.> [THE] FLESH OF [FEMALE] NEIGHBOR ITS 9Then I said, “I will no longer shepherd you. Let the dying die, and the perishing perish; and let those who remain devour one another’s flesh.”
10AND I TOOK <OBJ.> STAFF MY <OBJ.> FAVOR AND I CUT UP <OBJ.> IT TO BREAK <OBJ.> COVENANT MY WHICH I HAD MADE WITH ALL THE PEOPLES Thirty Pieces of Silver (Matthew 27:3–10) 10Next I took my staff called Favor and cut it in two,*NoteCloseOr broke it; similarly in verse 14 revoking the covenant I had made with all the nations.
11AND IT WAS BROKEN ON THE DAY <THE> THAT AND THEY KNEW THUS [THE] AFFLICTED [ONES] OF THE FLOCK WHO WERE WATCHING <OBJ.> ME THAT [WAS] [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH IT 11It was revoked on that day, and so the afflicted of the flock who were watching me knew that it was the word of the LORD.
12AND I SAID TO THEM IF IT IS GOOD IN VIEW YOUR GIVE WAGE[S] MY AND IF NOT REFRAIN AND THEY WEIGHED OUT <OBJ.> WAGE[S] MY THIRTY SILVER 12Then I told them, “If it seems right to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them.” So they weighed out my wages, thirty pieces of silver.
13AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO ME THROW IT TO THE POTTER [THE] MAGNIFICENCE OF THE VALUE WHICH I WAS VALUED FROM <THE> WITH THEM AND I TOOK! THIRTY THE SILVER AND I THREW <OBJ.> IT [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH TO THE POTTER 13And the LORD said to me, “Throw it to the potter”— this magnificent price at which they valued me. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the LORD.
14AND I CUT UP <OBJ.> STAFF MY <THE> SECOND <OBJ.> <THE> UNION TO BREAK <OBJ.> THE BROTHERHOOD BETWEEN JUDAH AND BETWEEN ISRAEL 14Then I cut in two my second staff called Union, breaking the brotherhood between Judah and Israel.
15AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO ME AGAIN TAKE FOR YOURSELF [THE] EQUIPMENT OF A SHEPHERD FOOLISH 15And the LORD said to me: “Take up once more the equipment of a foolish shepherd.
16FOR HERE! I [AM] ABOUT TO RAISE UP A SHEPHERD IN THE LAND THOSE [WHICH] ARE BEING DESTROYED NOT HE WILL VISIT THE YOUNG MAN NOT HE WILL SEEK AND THE [ONE WHICH] IS MAIMED NOT HE WILL HEAL THE [ONE WHICH] STANDS FIRM NOT HE WILL SUSTAIN AND [THE] FLESH OF THE FAT [SHEEP] HE WILL EAT AND HOOVES THEIR HE WILL TEAR OFF 16For behold, I will raise up a shepherd in the land who will neither care for the lost, nor seek the young, nor heal the broken, nor sustain the healthy, but he will devour the flesh of the choice sheep and tear off their hooves.
17WOE TO! SHEPHERD OF MY <THE> WORTHLESSNESS [WHO] ABANDONS <OF> THE FLOCK A SWORD [WILL BE] ON ARM HIS AND ON [THE] EYE OF RIGHT [SIDE] HIS ARM HIS TOTALLY <WITHER> IT WILL WITHER AND [THE] EYE OF RIGHT [SIDE] HIS CERTAINLY <TO DIM> IT WILL GROW DIM 17Woe to the worthless shepherd, who deserts the flock! May a sword strike his arm and his right eye! May his arm be completely withered and his right eye utterly blinded
