1 AND HE MADE FOR HIMSELF HOUSES IN [THE] CITY OF DAVID AND HE PREPARED A PLACE FOR [THE] ARK OF <THE> GOD AND HE PITCHED FOR IT A TENT
Preparing to Move the Ark
(2 Samuel 6:12–15 )
1 David constructed buildings for himself in the City of David, and he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.
2 THEN HE SAID DAVID NOT TO CARRY <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF <THE> GOD THAT EXCEPT THE LEVITES FOR <IN> THEM HE HAD CHOSEN YAHWEH TO CARRY <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH AND TO SERVE HIM UNTIL PERPETUITY
2 Then David said, “No one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, because the LORD has chosen them to carry the ark of the LORD and to minister before Him forever.”
3 AND HE ASSEMBLED DAVID <OBJ.> ALL ISRAEL TO JERUSALEM TO BRING UP <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH TO PLACE ITS WHICH HE HAD PREPARED FOR IT
3 And David assembled all Israel in Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD to the place he had prepared for it.
4 AND HE GATHERED DAVID <OBJ.> [THE] DESCENDANTS OF AARON AND <OBJ.> THE LEVITES
4 Then he gathered together the descendants of Aaron and the Levites:
5 OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF KOHATH URIEL THE LEADER AND RELATIVES HIS ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY
5 From the Kohathites, Uriel the chief and 120 of his relatives;
6 OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF MERARI ASAIAH THE LEADER AND RELATIVES HIS TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY
6 from the Merarites, Asaiah the chief and 220 of his relatives;
7 OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF GERSHOM JOEL THE LEADER AND RELATIVES HIS ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY
7 from the Gershomites, Joel the chief and 130 of his relatives;
8 OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF ELIZAPHAN SHEMAIAH THE LEADER AND RELATIVES HIS TWO HUNDRED
8 from the Elizaphanites, Shemaiah the chief and 200 of his relatives;
9 OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF HEBRON ELIEL THE LEADER AND RELATIVES HIS EIGHTY
9 from the Hebronites, Eliel the chief and 80 of his relatives;
10 OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF UZZIEL AMMINADAB THE LEADER AND RELATIVES HIS ONE HUNDRED AND TWO [PLUS] TEN
10 and from the Uzzielites, Amminadab the chief and 112 of his relatives.
11 AND HE SUMMONED DAVID <TO> ZADOK AND <TO> ABIATHAR THE PRIESTS AND <TO> THE LEVITES <TO> URIEL ASAIAH AND JOEL SHEMAIAH AND ELIEL AND AMMINADAB
11 David summoned the priests Zadok and Abiathar and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab.
12 AND HE SAID TO THEM YOU [ARE] [THE] CHIEFS OF THE FATHERS OF THE LEVITES CONSECRATE YOURSELVES YOU AND RELATIVES YOUR AND YOU WILL BRING UP <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL TO [WHERE] I HAVE PREPARED FOR IT
12 And he said to them, “You are the heads of the Levitical families. You and your relatives must consecrate yourselves so that you may bring the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place I have prepared for it.
13 FOR TO WHAT? AT THE FIRST [TIME] NOT YOU HE BURST OUT YAHWEH GOD OUR AGAINST US FOR NOT WE SOUGHT HIM ACCORDING TO THE ORDINANCE
13 It was because you Levites were not with us the first time that the LORD our God burst forth in anger against us. For we did not consult Him about the proper order.”
14 AND THEY CONSECRATED THEMSELVES THE PRIESTS AND THE LEVITES TO BRING UP <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL
The Priests and Levites Carry the Ark
14 So the priests and Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel.
15 AND THEY CARRIED [THE] DESCENDANTS OF THE LEVITES <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF <THE> GOD JUST AS HE HAD COMMANDED MOSES ACCORDING TO [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH ON SHOULDERS THEIR WITH <THE> POLES ON THEM
15 And the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles, as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the LORD.
16 AND HE SAID DAVID TO [THE] LEADERS OF THE LEVITES TO APPOINT <OBJ.> RELATIVES THEIR THE SINGERS WITH INSTRUMENTS OF SONG LYRES AND HARPS AND CYMBALS SOUNDING ALOUD TO RAISE <IN> A SOUND OF JOY
16 David also told the leaders of the Levites to appoint their relatives as singers to lift up their voices with joy, accompanied by musical instruments— harps, lyres, and cymbals.
17 AND THEY APPOINTED THE LEVITES <OBJ.> HEMAN [THE] SON OF JOEL AND OF RELATIVES HIS ASAPH [THE] SON OF BEREKIAH AND OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF MERARI RELATIVES THEIR ETHAN [THE] SON OF KUSHAIAH
17 So the Levites appointed Heman son of Joel; from his brothers, Asaph son of Berechiah; from their brothers the Merarites, Ethan son of Kushaiah;
18 AND WITH THEM RELATIVES THEIR THE SECOND IN RANK ZECHARIAH BEN AND JAAZIEL AND SHEMIRAMOTH AND JEHIEL AND UNNI ELIAB AND BENAIAH AND MAASEIAH AND MATTITHIAH AND ELIPHELEHU AND MIKNEIAH AND OBED- EDOM AND JEIEL THE GATEKEEPERS
18 and with them their brothers next in rank: Zechariah, Jaaziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, and the gatekeepers Obed-edom and Jeiel.
19 AND THE SINGERS HEMAN ASAPH AND ETHAN WITH CYMBALS BRONZE [WERE] TO SOUND ALOUD
19 The musicians Heman, Asaph, and Ethan were to sound the bronze cymbals.
20 AND ZECHARIAH AND AZIEL AND SHEMIRAMOTH AND JEHIEL AND UNNI AND ELIAB AND MAASEIAH AND BENAIAH WITH LYRES ON ALAMOTH
20 Zechariah, Aziel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Unni, Eliab, Maaseiah, and Benaiah were to play the harps according to Alamoth.
21 AND MATTITHIAH AND ELIPHELEHU AND MIKNEIAH AND OBED- EDOM AND JEIEL AND AZAZIAH WITH HARPS ON THE SHEMINITH TO ACT AS OVERSEERS
21 And Mattithiah, Eliphelehu, Mikneiah, Obed-edom, Jeiel, and Azaziah were to lead the music with lyres according to Sheminith.
22 AND KENANIAH [THE] LEADER OF THE LEVITES IN A LIFTING UP AN INSTRUCTOR IN THE LIFTING UP FOR [WAS] A TEACHER HE
22 Chenaniah the head Levite was the director of the music because he was highly skilled.
23 AND BEREKIAH AND ELKANAH [WERE] GATEKEEPERS FOR THE ARK
23 Berechiah and Elkanah were to be guardians of the ark.
24 AND SHEBANIAH AND JOSHAPHAT AND NETHANEL AND AMASAI AND ZECHARIAH AND BENAIAH AND ELIEZER THE PRIESTS [WERE] BLOWING A TRUMPET ON TRUMPETS <TO> BEFORE [THE] ARK OF <THE> GOD AND OBED- EDOM AND JEHIAH [WERE] GATEKEEPERS FOR THE ARK
24 Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel, Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer— the priests— were to blow the trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-edom and Jehiah were also to be guardians of the ark.
25 AND IT WAS DAVID AND [THE] ELDERS OF ISRAEL AND [THE] LEADERS OF THE THOUSANDS [WERE] THE [ONES WHO] WENT TO BRING UP <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF [THE] COVENANT OF YAHWEH FROM [THE] HOUSE OF OBED- EDOM WITH JOY
Moving the Ark to Jerusalem
25 So David, the elders of Israel, and the commanders of thousands went with rejoicing to bring the ark of the covenant of the LORD from the house of Obed-edom.
26 AND IT WAS BECAUSE HELPED <THE> GOD <OBJ.> THE LEVITES [THE] BEARERS OF [THE] ARK OF [THE] COVENANT OF YAHWEH AND THEY SACRIFICED SEVEN YOUNG BULLS AND SEVEN RAMS
26 And because God helped the Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams.
27 AND DAVID [WAS] WRAPPED IN A ROBE OF FINE LINEN AND ALL THE LEVITES WHO WERE CARRYING <OBJ.> THE ARK AND THE SINGERS AND KENANIAH THE LEADER THE LIFTING UP THE SINGERS AND [WAS] ON DAVID AN EPHOD OF LINEN
27 Now David was dressed in a robe of fine linen, as were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, as well as the singers and Chenaniah, the director of music for the singers. David also wore a linen ephod.
28 AND ALL ISRAEL [WAS] BRINGING UP <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF [THE] COVENANT OF YAHWEH WITH A SHOUT AND WITH [THE] SOUND OF A RAM'S HORN AND WITH TRUMPETS AND WITH CYMBALS SOUNDING ALOUD WITH LYRES AND HARPS
28 So all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, with the sounding of rams’ horns and trumpets, and with cymbals and the music of harps and lyres.
29 AND IT WAS [THE] ARK OF [THE] COVENANT OF YAHWEH [WAS] COMING TO [THE] CITY OF DAVID AND MICHAL [THE] DAUGHTER OF SAUL SHE LOOKED DOWN THROUGH THE WINDOW AND SHE SAW <OBJ.> THE KING DAVID DANCING AND MAKING MERRY AND SHE DESPISED <TO> HIM IN HEART HER
Michal’s Contempt for David
(2 Samuel 6:16 )
29 As the ark of the covenant of the LORD was entering the City of David, Saul’s daughter Michal looked down from a window and saw King David dancing and celebrating, and she despised him in her heart.
