30AND THEY WENT OUT [THE] COMMANDERS OF [THE] PHILISTINES AND IT WAS AS OFTEN AS WENT OUT THEY HE WAS SUCCESSFUL DAVID MORE THAN ALL [THE] SERVANTS OF SAUL AND IT WAS ESTEEMED NAME HIS EXCEEDINGLY 30Every time the Philistine commanders came out for battle, David was more successful than all of Saul’s officers, so that his name was highly esteemed.
1AND HE SPOKE SAUL TO JONATHAN SON HIS AND TO ALL SERVANTS HIS TO KILL <OBJ.> DAVID AND JONATHAN [THE] SON OF SAUL HE DELIGHTED IN DAVID EXCEEDINGLY Saul Tries to Kill David (Psalm 59:1–17) 1Then Saul ordered his son Jonathan and all his servants to kill David. But Jonathan delighted greatly in David,
2AND HE TOLD JONATHAN TO DAVID <TO> SAYING [IS] SEEKING SAUL FATHER MY TO KILL YOU AND THEREFORE TAKE CARE PLEASE IN THE MORNING AND YOU WILL REMAIN IN THE HIDING PLACE AND YOU WILL HIDE YOURSELF 2so he warned David, saying, “My father Saul intends to kill you. Be on your guard in the morning; find a secret place and hide there.
3AND I I WILL GO OUT AND I WILL STAND TO [THE] SIDE OF FATHER MY IN THE FIELD WHERE YOU [ARE] THERE AND I I WILL SPEAK IN <THE> YOU TO FATHER MY AND I WILL SEE WHATEVER AND I WILL TELL TO <THE> YOU 3I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where you are, so I can ask about you. And if I find out anything, I will tell you.”
4AND HE SPOKE JONATHAN IN DAVID GOOD TO SAUL FATHER HIS AND HE SAID TO HIM MAY NOT HE SIN THE KING AGAINST SERVANT HIS AGAINST DAVID FOR NOT HE HAS SINNED TO <THE> YOU AND FOR DEEDS HIS [ARE] GOOD FOR <THE> YOU EXCEEDINGLY 4Then Jonathan spoke well of David to his father Saul and said to him, “The king should not sin against his servant David; he has not sinned against you. In fact, his actions have been highly beneficial to you.
5AND HE PUT <OBJ.> LIFE HIS IN PALM HIS AND HE STRUCK DOWN <OBJ.> THE PHILISTINE AND HE MADE YAHWEH A DELIVERANCE GREAT FOR ALL ISRAEL YOU SAW AND YOU REJOICED AND <TO> WHY? WILL YOU SIN AGAINST BLOOD INNOCENT BY KILLING <OBJ.> DAVID WITHOUT CAUSE 5He took his life in his hands when he struck down the Philistine, and the LORD worked a great salvation for all Israel. You saw it and rejoiced, so why would you sin against innocent blood by killing David for no reason?”
6AND HE LISTENED SAUL TO [THE] VOICE OF JONATHAN AND HE SWORE AN OATH SAUL [BY] [THE] LIFE OF YAHWEH IF HE WILL BE PUT TO DEATH 6Saul listened to the voice of Jonathan and swore an oath: “As surely as the LORD lives, David will not be put to death.”
7AND HE CALLED JONATHAN TO DAVID AND HE TOLD TO <THE> HIM JONATHAN <OBJ.> ALL THE WORDS <THE> THESE AND HE BROUGHT JONATHAN <OBJ.> DAVID TO SAUL AND HE WAS <TO> BEFORE HIM AS YESTERDAY THREE DAYS AGO 7So Jonathan summoned David and told him all these things. Then Jonathan brought David to Saul, and David was with Saul as before.
8AND IT REPEATED THE WAR TO BE AND HE WENT OUT DAVID AND HE FOUGHT AGAINST THE PHILISTINES AND HE DEFEATED <IN> <THE> THEM A DEFEAT GREAT AND THEY FLED FROM BEFORE HIM 8When war broke out again, David went out and fought the Philistines and struck them with such a mighty blow that they fled before him.
9AND IT WAS A SPIRIT OF YAHWEH EVIL TO SAUL AND HE IN HOUSE HIS [WAS] SITTING AND SPEAR HIS [WAS] IN HAND HIS AND DAVID [WAS] PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT WITH HAND 9But as Saul was sitting in his house with his spear in his hand, a spirit of distress*NoteCloseOr a harmful spirit from the LORD came upon him. While David was playing the harp,
10AND HE SOUGHT SAUL TO STRIKE WITH THE SPEAR <ON> DAVID AND <ON> THE WALL AND HE ESCAPED FROM BEFORE SAUL AND HE STRUCK <OBJ.> THE SPEAR IN THE WALL AND DAVID HE FLED AND HE ESCAPED IN THE NIGHT THAT 10Saul tried to pin him to the wall with his spear. But David eluded him and the spear struck the wall. And David fled and escaped that night.
11AND HE SENT SAUL MESSENGERS TO [THE] HOUSE OF DAVID TO WATCH FOR HIM AND TO KILL HIM IN THE MORNING AND SHE TOLD TO DAVID MICHAL WIFE HIS <TO> SAYING IF NOT YOU [ARE] DELIVERING <OBJ.> LIFE YOUR THIS NIGHT TOMORROW YOU [WILL BE] PUT TO DEATH 11Then Saul sent messengers to David’s house to watch him and kill him in the morning. But David’s wife Michal warned him, “If you do not run for your life tonight, tomorrow you will be dead!”
12AND SHE LET DOWN MICHAL <OBJ.> DAVID THROUGH THE WINDOW AND HE WENT AND HE FLED AND HE ESCAPED 12So Michal lowered David from the window, and he ran away and escaped.
13AND SHE TOOK MICHAL <OBJ.> THE TERAPHIM AND SHE PUT [IT] INTO THE BED AND <OBJ.> <THE> QUILT OF <THE> GOAT HAIR<S> SHE PUT [THE] PLACE OF HEAD ITS AND SHE COVERED [IT] WITH THE GARMENT 13Then Michal took a household idol*NoteCloseOr a household god; Hebrew teraphim; also in verse 16 and laid it in the bed, placed some goat hair on its head, and covered it with a garment.
14AND HE SENT SAUL MESSENGERS TO FETCH <OBJ.> DAVID AND SHE SAID [IS] SICK HE 14When Saul sent the messengers to seize David, Michal said, “He is ill.”
15AND HE SENT SAUL <OBJ.> THE MESSENGERS TO SEE <OBJ.> DAVID <TO> SAYING BRING UP <OBJ.> HIM ON THE BED TO ME TO KILL HIM 15But Saul sent the messengers back to see David and told them, “Bring him up to me in his bed so I can kill him.”
16AND THEY CAME THE MESSENGERS AND THERE! THE TERAPHIM [WAS] TO THE BED AND [THE] QUILT OF <THE> GOAT HAIR<S> [THE] PLACE OF HEAD ITS 16And when the messengers entered, there was the idol in the bed with the goat hair on its head.
17AND HE SAID SAUL TO MICHAL <TO> WHY? THUS HAVE YOU DECEIVED ME AND YOU HAVE LET GO <OBJ.> ENEMY MY AND HE HAS ESCAPED AND SHE SAID MICHAL TO SAUL HE HE SAID TO ME LET GO ME <TO> WHY? WILL I KILL YOU 17And Saul said to Michal, “Why did you deceive me like this? You sent my enemy away, and he has escaped!” Michal replied “He said to me, ‘Help me get away, or I will kill you!’”
18AND DAVID HE FLED AND HE ESCAPED AND HE WENT TO SAMUEL <THE> RAMAH TOWARDS AND HE TOLD TO <THE> HIM <OBJ.> ALL THAT HE HAD DONE TO <THE> HIM SAUL AND HE WENT HE AND SAMUEL AND THEY DWELT AT NAIOTH 18So David ran away and escaped. And he went to Samuel at Ramah and told him all that Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel went to Naioth and stayed there.
19AND IT WAS TOLD TO SAUL <TO> SAYING THERE! DAVID [IS] AT NAIOTH IN <THE> RAMAH 19When Saul was told that David was at Naioth in Ramah,
20AND HE SENT SAUL MESSENGERS TO FETCH <OBJ.> DAVID AND HE SAW <OBJ.> [THE] COMPANY OF THE PROPHETS PROPHESYING AND SAMUEL [WAS] STANDING CHIEF OVER THEM AND IT WAS ON [THE] MESSENGERS OF SAUL [THE] SPIRIT OF GOD AND THEY PROPHESIED ALSO THEY 20he sent messengers to seize him. But when they saw the group of prophets prophesying, with Samuel leading them, the Spirit of God came upon them, and Saul’s messengers also began to prophesy.
21AND PEOPLE TOLD TO SAUL AND HE SENT MESSENGERS OTHER AND THEY PROPHESIED ALSO THEY AND HE REPEATED SAUL AND HE SENT MESSENGERS THIRD AND THEY PROPHESIED ALSO THEY 21When this was reported to Saul, he sent more messengers, but they began to prophesy as well. So Saul tried again and sent messengers a third time, and even they began to prophesy.
22AND HE WENT ALSO HE <THE> RAMAH TOWARDS AND HE CAME TO A CISTERN <THE> GREAT WHICH [IS] IN <THE> SECU AND HE ASKED AND HE SAID WHERE? [ARE] SAMUEL AND DAVID AND SOMEONE SAID THERE! AT NAIOTH IN <THE> RAMAH 22Finally, Saul himself left for Ramah and came to the large cistern at Secu, where he asked, “Where are Samuel and David?” “At Naioth in Ramah,” he was told.
23AND HE WENT THERE TO NAIOTH IN <THE> RAMAH AND IT WAS ON HIM ALSO HE [THE] SPIRIT OF GOD AND HE WENT CONTINUOUSLY <TO GO> AND HE PROPHESIED UNTIL CAME HE AT NAIOTH IN <THE> RAMAH 23So Saul went to Naioth in Ramah. But the Spirit of God came upon even Saul, and he walked along prophesying until he came to Naioth in Ramah.
24AND HE STRIPPED OFF ALSO HE CLOTHES HIS AND HE PROPHESIED ALSO HE <TO> BEFORE SAMUEL AND HE FELL DOWN NAKED ALL THE DAY <THE> THAT AND ALL THE NIGHT THERE- -FORE PEOPLE SAY ¿ ALSO [IS] SAUL AMONG THE PROPHETS 24Then Saul stripped off his robes and also prophesied before Samuel. And he collapsed and lay naked all that day and night. That is why it is said, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”
