42AND HE SAID JONATHAN TO DAVID GO TO PEACE THAT WE HAVE SWORN AN OATH [THE] TWO OF US WE BY [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH <TO> SAYING YAHWEH HE WILL BE BETWEEN ME AND BETWEEN YOU AND BETWEEN OFFSPRING MY AND BETWEEN OFFSPRING YOUR UNTIL PERPETUITY AND HE AROSE AND HE WENT AND JONATHAN HE WENT THE CITY 42And Jonathan said to David, “Go in peace, for the two of us have sworn in the name of the LORD, saying, ‘May the LORD be a witness between you and me, and between your descendants and mine forever Then David got up and departed, and Jonathan went back into the city.
1AND HE WENT DAVID NOB TOWARDS TO AHIMELECH THE PRIEST AND HE TREMBLED AHIMELECH TO MEET DAVID AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM WHY? [ARE] YOU TO ALONE YOU AND [IS] ANYONE THERE NOT WITH YOU David Takes the Consecrated Bread (Matthew 12:1–8; Mark 2:23–28; Luke 6:1–5) 1Then David came to Nob, to Ahimelech the priest. And when Ahimelech met David, he trembled and asked him, “Why are you alone? Why is no one with you?”
2AND HE SAID DAVID TO AHIMELECH THE PRIEST THE KING HE COMMANDED ME A MATTER AND HE SAID TO ME ANYONE MAY NOT HE KNOW ANYTHING <OBJ.> THE MATTER WHICH I [AM] SENDING YOU AND WHICH I HAVE COMMANDED YOU AND <OBJ.> THE YOUNG MEN I HAVE DIRECTED TO A PLACE OF A CERTAIN ONE A CERTAIN ONE 2“The king has given me a mission,” David replied. “He told me no one is to know about the mission on which I am sending you. And I have directed my young men to meet me at a certain place.
3AND THEREFORE WHAT? [IS] THERE UNDER HAND YOUR FIVE BREAD[S] GIVE! IN HAND MY OR THAT [WHICH] MAY BE FOUND 3Now then, what do you have on hand? Give me five loaves of bread, or whatever can be found.”
4AND HE ANSWERED THE PRIEST <OBJ.> DAVID AND HE SAID THERE NOT [IS] BREAD OF PROFANENESS TO UNDER HAND MY THAT EXCEPT [IS] BREAD OF HOLINESS THERE IF THEY HAVE KEPT THEMSELVES THE YOUNG MEN ONLY FROM A WOMAN 4“There is no common bread on hand,” the priest replied but there is some consecrated bread— provided that the young men have kept themselves from women.”
5AND HE ANSWERED DAVID <OBJ.> THE PRIEST AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM THAT EXCEPT WOMAN [IS] WITHHELD TO <THE> US AS YESTERDAY THREE DAYS AGO WHEN GO OUT I AND THEY WERE [THE] VESSELS OF THE YOUNG MEN HOLINESS AND IT [IS] A JOURNEY OF PROFANENESS AND INDEED? FOR THIS DAY IT IS HOLY IN THE VESSEL 5David answered “Women have indeed been kept from us as is usual when I set out. And the bodies of the young men are holy even on common missions. How much more so today!”
6AND HE GAVE TO <THE> HIM THE PRIEST A HOLY THING FOR NOT IT WAS THERE BREAD THAT EXCEPT [THE] BREAD OF THE PRESENCE WHICH HAD BEEN REMOVED FROM TO BEFORE YAHWEH TO PUT BREAD OF HEAT ON [THE] DAY WAS TAKEN AWAY IT 6So the priest gave him the consecrated bread, since there was no bread there but the Bread of the Presence, which had been removed from before the LORD and replaced with hot bread on the day it was taken away.
7AND THERE A MAN ONE OF [THE] SERVANTS OF SAUL ON THE DAY <THE> THAT [WAS] DETAINED <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH AND NAME HIS [WAS] DOEG THE EDOMITE [THE] MIGHTY [ONE] OF THE SHEPHERDS WHO [BELONGED] TO SAUL 7Now one of Saul’s servants was there that day, detained before the LORD. And his name was Doeg the Edomite, the chief shepherd for Saul.
8AND HE SAID DAVID TO AHIMELECH AND WHERE? THERE HERE UNDER HAND YOUR [IS] A SPEAR OR A SWORD FOR BOTH SWORD MY <AND> AS WELL AS WEAPONS MY NOT I TOOK IN HAND MY FOR IT WAS [THE] MATTER OF THE KING URGENT David Flees to Gath (Psalm 34:1–22; Psalm 56:1–13) 8Then David asked Ahimelech, “Is there not a spear or sword on hand here? For I have brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s mission was urgent.”
9AND HE SAID THE PRIEST [THE] SWORD OF GOLIATH THE PHILISTINE WHOM YOU STRUCK DOWN IN [THE] VALLEY OF <THE> ELAH HERE! IT [IS] WRAPPED IN THE CLOAK BEHIND THE EPHOD IF <OBJ.> IT YOU WILL TAKE FOR <THE> YOURSELF TAKE [IT] FOR THERE NOT [IS] ANOTHER EXCEPT IT IN THIS [PLACE] AND HE SAID DAVID THERE NOT [IS] LIKE IT GIVE IT TO <THE> ME 9The priest replied, “The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom you killed in the Valley of Elah, is here; it is wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod. If you want, you may take it. For there is no other but this one here.” And David said, “There is none like it; give it to me.”
10AND HE AROSE DAVID AND HE FLED ON THE DAY <THE> THAT FROM BEFORE SAUL AND HE WENT TO ACHISH [THE] KING OF GATH 10That day David fled from Saul and went to Achish king of Gath.
11AND THEY SAID [THE] SERVANTS OF ACHISH TO HIM ¿ NOT [IS] THIS DAVID [THE] KING OF THE LAND ¿ NOT OF THIS [ONE] DO PEOPLE SING WITH <THE> DANCES <TO> SAYING HE HAS STRUCK DOWN SAUL <ON> THOUSANDS HIS AND DAVID <ON> TEN THOUSANDS HIS 11But the servants of Achish said to him, “Is this not David, the king of the land? Did they not sing about him in their dances, saying: ‘Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands’?”
12AND HE PUT DAVID <OBJ.> THE WORDS <THE> THESE IN HEART HIS AND HE WAS AFRAID EXCEEDINGLY OF <THE FACE OF> ACHISH [THE] KING OF GATH 12Now David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
13AND HE CHANGED IT <OBJ.> SENSE HIS IN VIEW THEIR AND HE PRETENDED TO BE MAD IN HAND THEIR AND HE MADE MARKS ON [THE] DOORS OF THE GATE AND HE MADE TO FLOW DOWN SPITTLE HIS TO BEARD HIS 13So he changed his behavior before them and feigned madness in their hands; he scratched on the doors of the gate and let his saliva run down his beard.
14AND HE SAID ACHISH TO SERVANTS HIS THERE! YOU SEE A MAN BEHAVING LIKE A MADMAN <TO> WHY? DO YOU BRING <OBJ.> HIM TO ME 14Then Achish said to his servants, “Look, you can see that the man is insane! Why have you brought him to me?
15LACKING OF MADMEN [AM] I? THAT YOU HAVE BROUGHT <OBJ.> THIS ONE TO BEHAVE LIKE A MADMAN ON ME ¿ THIS ONE WILL HE COME INTO HOUSE MY 15Am I in need of madmen, that you have brought this man to rave in my presence? Must this man come into my house?”
