36AND IT WILL BE EVERY <THE> [ONE WHO] REMAINS IN HOUSE YOUR HE WILL COME TO BOW DOWN TO <THE> HIM FOR A PAYMENT OF SILVER AND A ROUND LOAF OF BREAD AND HE WILL SAY ATTACH ME PLEASE TO ONE OF THE PRIESTHOODS TO EAT A PIECE OF BREAD 36And everyone left in your house will come and bow down to him for a piece of silver or a morsel of bread, pleading, “Please appoint me to some priestly office so that I can eat a piece of bread.”’”
1AND THE LAD SAMUEL [WAS] SERVING <OBJ.> YAHWEH <TO> BEFORE ELI AND [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH IT WAS RARE IN THE DAYS <THE> THOSE NOT VISION [WAS] SPREAD OUT The LORD Calls Samuel 1And the boy Samuel ministered to the LORD before Eli. Now in those days the word of the LORD was rare, and visions were scarce.
2AND IT WAS ON THE DAY <THE> THAT AND ELI [WAS] LYING IN PLACE HIS AND EYES HIS THEY BEGAN DIM NOT HE WAS ABLE TO SEE 2And at that time Eli, whose eyesight had grown so dim that he could not see, was lying in his room.
3AND [THE] LAMP OF GOD NOT YET IT WAS EXTINGUISHED AND SAMUEL [WAS] LYING IN [THE] TEMPLE OF YAHWEH WHERE [WAS] THERE [THE] ARK OF GOD 3Before the lamp of God had gone out, Samuel was lying down in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was located.
4AND HE CALLED YAHWEH TO SAMUEL AND HE SAID HERE [AM] I 4Then the LORD called to Samuel, and he answered, “Here I am.”
5AND HE RAN TO ELI AND HE SAID HERE [AM] I FOR YOU SUMMONED <TO> <THE> ME AND HE SAID NOT I SUMMONED RETURN LIE DOWN AND HE WENT AND HE LAY DOWN 5He ran to Eli and said, “Here I am, for you have called me.” “I did not call,” Eli replied. “Go back and lie down.” So he went and lay down.
6AND HE REPEATED YAHWEH TO CALL AGAIN SAMUEL AND HE ROSE SAMUEL AND HE WENT TO ELI AND HE SAID HERE [AM] I FOR YOU SUMMONED <TO> <THE> ME AND HE SAID NOT I SUMMONED O SON MY RETURN LIE DOWN 6Once again the LORD called, “Samuel!” So Samuel got up, went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you have called me.” “My son, I did not call,” Eli replied. “Go back and lie down.”
7AND SAMUEL NOT YET HE KNEW <OBJ.> YAHWEH AND NOT YET IT WAS REVEALED TO HIM [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH 7Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, because the word of the LORD had not yet been revealed to him.
8AND HE REPEATED YAHWEH TO CALL SAMUEL AT THE THIRD [TIME] AND HE ROSE AND HE WENT TO ELI AND HE SAID HERE [AM] I FOR YOU SUMMONED <TO> <THE> ME AND HE UNDERSTOOD ELI THAT YAHWEH [WAS] SUMMONING <TO> THE LAD 8Once again, for the third time, the LORD called to Samuel. He got up, went to Eli, and said, “Here I am, for you have called me.” Then Eli realized that it was the LORD who was calling the boy.
9AND HE SAID ELI TO SAMUEL GO LIE DOWN AND IT WILL BE THAT [IF] HE WILL CALL TO YOU AND YOU WILL SAY SPEAK O YAHWEH FOR [IS] LISTENING SERVANT YOUR AND HE WENT SAMUEL AND HE LAY DOWN IN PLACE HIS 9“Go and lie down,” he said to Samuel, “and if He calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD, for Your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went and lay down in his place.
10AND HE CAME YAHWEH AND HE STOOD AND HE CALLED AS TIME ON TIME O SAMUEL O SAMUEL AND HE SAID SAMUEL SPEAK FOR [IS] LISTENING SERVANT YOUR 10Then the LORD came and stood there, calling as before, “Samuel! Samuel!” And Samuel answered, “Speak, for Your servant is listening.”
11AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO SAMUEL HERE! I [AM] ABOUT TO DO A THING IN ISRAEL WHICH EVERY [ONE WHO] HEARS IT THEY WILL TINGLE [THE] TWO EARS HIS 11Then the LORD said to Samuel, “I am about to do something in Israel at which the ears of all who hear it will tingle.
12ON THE DAY <THE> THAT I WILL CARRY OUT AGAINST ELI <OBJ.> ALL THAT I HAVE SPOKEN AGAINST HOUSE HIS BEGINNING AND ENDING 12On that day I will carry out against Eli everything I have spoken about his house, from beginning to end.
13AND I TELL TO <THE> HIM THAT [AM] ABOUT TO JUDGE I <OBJ.> HOUSE HIS UNTIL PERPETUITY FOR [THE] INIQUITY <OF> WHICH HE KNEW THAT [WERE] BRINGING A CURSE TO <THE> THEMSELVES SONS HIS AND NOT HE REBUKED <IN> <THE> THEM 13I told him that I would judge his house forever for the iniquity of which he knows, because his sons blasphemed God*NoteCloseLXX; Hebrew made themselves contemptible and he did not restrain them.
14AND <TO> THEREFORE I SWEAR TO [THE] HOUSE OF ELI IF IT WILL BE ATONED FOR [THE] INIQUITY OF [THE] HOUSE OF ELI BY SACRIFICE AND BY AN OFFERING UNTIL PERPETUITY 14Therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli, ‘The iniquity of Eli’s house shall never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.’”
15AND HE LAY SAMUEL UNTIL THE MORNING AND HE OPENED <OBJ.> [THE] DOORS OF [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH AND SAMUEL HE WAS AFRAID FROM TELLING <OBJ.> THE VISION TO ELI Samuel Shares the Vision 15Samuel lay down until the morning; then he opened the doors of the house of the LORD. He was afraid to tell Eli the vision,
16AND HE CALLED ELI <OBJ.> SAMUEL AND HE SAID O SAMUEL SON MY AND HE SAID HERE [AM] I 16but Eli called to him and said, “Samuel, my son.” “Here I am,” answered Samuel.
17AND HE SAID WHAT? [WAS] THE WORD WHICH HE SPOKE TO YOU MAY NOT PLEASE YOU HIDE [IT] FROM ME THUS MAY HE DO TO <THE> YOU GOD AND THUS MAY HE ADD IF YOU WILL HIDE FROM ME A WORD FROM ALL THE WORD WHICH HE SPOKE TO YOU 17“What was the message He gave you?” Eli asked. “Do not hide it from me. May God punish you, and ever so severely, if you hide from me anything He said to you.”
18AND HE TOLD TO <THE> HIM SAMUEL <OBJ.> ALL THE WORDS AND NOT HE HID [THEM] FROM HIM AND HE SAID [IS] YAHWEH HE THE GOOD IN EYES HIS LET HIM DO 18So Samuel told him everything and did not hide a thing from him. “He is the LORD,” replied Eli. “Let Him do what is good in His eyes.”
19AND HE GREW UP SAMUEL AND YAHWEH HE WAS WITH HIM AND NOT HE MADE FALL ANY OF ALL WORDS HIS [THE] GROUND TOWARDS 19And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and He let none of Samuel’s words fall to the ground.
20AND IT KNEW ALL ISRAEL FROM DAN AND TO BEER SHEBA THAT [WAS BEING] ESTABLISHED SAMUEL TO A PROPHET OF YAHWEH 20So all Israel from Dan to Beersheba knew that Samuel was confirmed as a prophet of the LORD.
21AND HE REPEATED YAHWEH TO APPEAR AT SHILOH FOR HE REVEALED HIMSELF YAHWEH TO SAMUEL AT SHILOH BY [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH 21And the LORD continued to appear at Shiloh, because there He revealed Himself to Samuel by His word.
