1 AND HE SAID SOLOMON TO BUILD A HOUSE FOR [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH AND A HOUSE FOR ROYALTY HIS
Preparations for the Temple
(1 Kings 5:1–6 )
1 Now Solomon purposed to build a house for the Name of the LORD and a royal palace for himself.
2 AND HE COUNTED SOLOMON SEVENTY THOUSAND MAN BURDEN-BEARER[S] AND EIGHTY THOUSAND MAN STONE-CUTTER[S] IN THE HILL COUNTRY AND OVERSEERS OVER THEM THREE THOUSAND<S> AND SIX HUNDRED<S>
2 So he conscripted 70,000. porters, 80,000. stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors.
3 AND HE SENT SOLOMON TO HURAM [THE] KING OF TYRE <TO> SAYING JUST AS YOU DEALT WITH DAVID FATHER MY AND YOU SENT TO HIM CEDARS TO BUILD FOR HIM A HOUSE TO DWELL IN IT
3 Then Solomon sent word to Hiram king of Tyre:
“Do for me as you did for my father David when you sent him cedars to build himself a house to live in.
4 HERE! I [AM] ABOUT TO BUILD A HOUSE FOR [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH GOD MY TO CONSECRATE [IT] TO HIM TO MAKE SMOKE <TO> BEFORE HIM INCENSE OF PERFUME<S> AND [THE] ROW OF CONTINUITY AND BURNT OFFERINGS FOR THE MORNING AND FOR THE EVENING FOR THE SABBATHS AND FOR THE NEW MOONS AND FOR [THE] APPOINTED TIMES OF YAHWEH GOD OUR FOR EVER THIS [IS] ON ISRAEL
4 Behold, I am about to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God to dedicate to Him for burning fragrant incense before Him, for displaying the showbread continuously, and for making burnt offerings every morning and evening as well as on the Sabbaths, New Moons, and appointed feasts of the LORD our God. This is ordained for Israel forever.
5 AND THE HOUSE WHICH I [AM] ABOUT TO BUILD [WILL BE] GREAT FOR [IS] GREAT GOD OUR MORE THAN ALL THE GODS
5 The house that I am building will be great, for our God is greater than all gods.
6 AND WHO? WILL HE RETAIN STRENGTH TO BUILD FOR HIM A HOUSE FOR THE HEAVENS AND [THE] HEAVENS OF THE HEAVENS NOT THEY WILL CONTAIN HIM AND WHO? [AM] I THAT I WILL BUILD FOR HIM A HOUSE THAT EXCEPT TO MAKE SMOKE <TO> BEFORE HIM
6 But who is able to build a house for Him, since the heavens, even the highest heavens, cannot contain Him? Who then am I, that I should build a house for Him, except as a place to burn sacrifices before Him?
7 AND THEREFORE SEND TO ME A MAN SKILLFUL TO WORK IN <THE> GOLD AND IN <THE> SILVER AND IN <THE> BRONZE AND IN <THE> IRON AND IN <THE> PURPLE AND CRIMSON AND VIOLET AND [ONE WHO] KNOWS TO ENGRAVE ENGRAVINGS WITH THE SKILLFUL [PEOPLE] WHO [ARE] WITH ME IN JUDAH AND IN JERUSALEM WHOM HE APPOINTED DAVID FATHER MY
7 Send me, therefore, a craftsman skilled in engraving to work with gold and silver, with bronze and iron, and with purple, crimson, and blue yarn. He will work with my craftsmen in Judah and Jerusalem, whom my father David provided.
8 AND SEND TO ME WOOD<S> OF CEDAR<S> FIR<S> AND ALGUM<S> FROM <THE> LEBANON FOR I I KNOW THAT SERVANTS YOUR [ARE] KNOWING TO CUT [THE] WOOD<S> OF LEBANON AND THERE! SERVANTS MY [WILL BE] WITH SERVANTS YOUR
8 Send me also cedar, cypress, and algum logs from Lebanon, for I know that your servants have skill to cut timber there. And indeed, my servants will work with yours
9 AND TO PREPARE FOR ME WOOD<S> TO ABUNDANCE FOR THE HOUSE WHICH I [AM] ABOUT TO BUILD [WILL BE] GREAT AND ACT WONDERFULLY
9 to prepare for me timber in abundance, because the temple I am building will be great and wonderful.
10 AND HERE! TO THE WOOD-CUTTERS TO [THE] CUTTERS OF THE WOOD<S> I GIVE WHEAT<S> WOUNDS TO SERVANTS YOUR CORS TWENTY THOUSAND AND BARLEY<S> CORS TWENTY THOUSAND AND WINE BATHS TWENTY THOUSAND AND OIL BATHS TWENTY THOUSAND
10 I will pay your servants, the woodcutters, 20,000. cors of ground wheat, 20,000. cors of barley, 20,000. baths of wine, and 20,000. baths of olive oil. ”
11 AND HE SAID HURAM [THE] KING OF TYRE IN A DOCUMENT AND HE SENT TO SOLOMON BECAUSE LOVES YAHWEH <OBJ.> PEOPLE HIS HE HAS MADE YOU OVER THEM KING
Hiram’s Reply to Solomon
(1 Kings 5:7–12 )
11 Then Hiram king of Tyre wrote a letter in reply to Solomon:
“Because the LORD loves His people, He has set you over them as king.”
12 AND HE SAID HURAM [BE] BLESSED YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL WHO HE HAS MADE <OBJ.> THE HEAVENS AND <OBJ.> THE EARTH WHO HE HAS GIVEN TO DAVID THE KING A SON WISE [WHO] KNOWS INSIGHT AND UNDERSTANDING WHO HE WILL BUILD A HOUSE FOR YAHWEH AND A HOUSE FOR ROYALTY HIS
12 And Hiram added:
“Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who made the heavens and the earth! He has given King David a wise son with insight and understanding, who will build a temple for the LORD and a royal palace for himself.
13 AND NOW I SEND A MAN WISE [WHO] KNOWS UNDERSTANDING <TO> HURAM ABI
13 So now I am sending you Huram-abi, a skillful man endowed with creativity.
14 A SON OF A WOMAN ONE OF [THE] DAUGHTERS OF DAN AND FATHER HIS [WAS] A MAN TYRIAN [WHO] KNOWS TO WORK IN <THE> GOLD AND IN <THE> SILVER IN <THE> BRONZE IN <THE> IRON IN <THE> STONE<S> AND IN <THE> WOOD<S> IN <THE> PURPLE IN <THE> VIOLET AND IN <THE> FINE LINEN AND IN <THE> CRIMSON AND TO ENGRAVE EVERY ENGRAVING AND TO DESIGN ANY DESIGN WHICH IT WILL BE GIVEN TO HIM WITH SKILLED [PEOPLE] YOUR AND [THE] SKILLFUL [PEOPLE] OF LORD MY DAVID FATHER YOUR
14 He is the son of a woman from the daughters of Dan, and his father is a man of Tyre. He is skilled in work with gold and silver, bronze and iron, stone and wood, purple, blue, and crimson yarn, and fine linen. He is experienced in every kind of engraving and can execute any design that is given him. He will work with your craftsmen and with those of my lord, your father David.
15 AND THEREFORE THE WHEAT<S> AND THE BARLEY<S> THE OIL AND THE WINE WHICH HE HAS SAID LORD MY LET HIM SEND TO SERVANTS HIS
15 Now let my lord send to his servants the wheat, barley, olive oil, and wine he promised.
16 AND WE WE WILL CUT WOOD<S> FROM <THE> LEBANON ACCORDING TO ALL NEED YOUR AND WE WILL BRING THEM TO YOU RAFTS ON [THE] SEA JOPPA AND YOU YOU WILL TAKE UP <OBJ.> THEM JERUSALEM
16 We will cut logs from Lebanon, as many as you need, and we will float them to you as rafts by sea down to Joppa. Then you can take them up to Jerusalem.”
17 AND HE COUNTED SOLOMON ALL THE PEOPLE THE SOJOURNERS WHO [WERE] IN [THE] LAND OF ISRAEL AFTER THE CENSUS WHICH HE HAD COUNTED THEM DAVID FATHER HIS AND THEY WERE FOUND ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND AND THREE THOUSAND<S> AND SIX HUNDRED<S>
17 Solomon numbered all the foreign men in the land of Israel following the census his father David had conducted, and there were found to be 153,600 in all.
18 AND HE APPOINTED OF THEM SEVENTY THOUSAND BURDEN-BEARER[S] AND EIGHTY THOUSAND STONE-CUTTER[S] IN THE HILL COUNTRY AND THREE THOUSAND<S> AND SIX HUNDRED<S> OVERSEERS TO COMPEL TO LABOR <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE
18 Solomon made 70,000 of them porters, 80,000. stonecutters in the mountains, and 3,600 supervisors
