1 AND HE SENT HIRAM [THE] KING OF TYRE <OBJ.> SERVANTS HIS TO SOLOMON FOR HE HAD HEARD THAT <OBJ.> HIM PEOPLE HAD ANOINTED TO KING IN PLACE OF FATHER HIS FOR A FRIEND HE HAD BEEN HIRAM OF DAVID ALL THE DAYS
Preparations for the Temple
(2 Chronicles 2:1–10 )
1 Now when Hiram king of Tyre heard that Solomon had been anointed king in his father’s place, he sent envoys to Solomon; for Hiram had always been a friend of David.
2 AND HE SENT SOLOMON TO HIRAM <TO> SAYING
2 And Solomon relayed this message to Hiram:
3 YOU YOU KNOW <OBJ.> DAVID FATHER MY THAT NOT HE WAS ABLE TO BUILD A HOUSE FOR [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH GOD HIS <FROM> BECAUSE OF THE WAR WHICH THEY HAD SURROUNDED HIM UNTIL GAVE YAHWEH <OBJ.> THEM UNDER [THE] SOLES OF FEET MY
3 “As you are well aware, due to the wars waged on all sides against my father David, he could not build a house for the Name of the LORD his God until the LORD had put his enemies under his feet.
4 AND NOW HE HAS GIVEN REST YAHWEH GOD MY TO <THE> ME FROM ROUND ABOUT THERE NOT [IS] AN ADVERSARY AND THERE NOT [IS] AN OCCURRENCE EVIL
4 But now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side, and there is no adversary or crisis.
5 AND HERE I [AM] SAYING TO BUILD A HOUSE FOR [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH GOD MY JUST AS HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO DAVID FATHER MY <TO> SAYING SON YOUR WHOM I WILL PUT IN PLACE OF YOU ON THRONE YOUR HE HE WILL BUILD THE HOUSE FOR NAME MY
5 So behold, I plan to build a house for the Name of the LORD my God, according to what the LORD said to my father David: ‘I will put your son on your throne in your place, and he will build the house for My Name.’
6 AND THEREFORE COMMAND SO THEY MAY CUT FOR <THE> ME CEDARS FROM <THE> LEBANON AND SERVANTS MY THEY WILL BE WITH SERVANTS YOUR AND [THE] WAGE[S] OF SERVANTS YOUR I WILL GIVE TO <THE> YOU ACCORDING TO ALL THAT YOU WILL SAY FOR YOU YOU KNOW THAT THERE NOT AMONG <THE> US [IS] ANYONE [WHO] KNOWS TO CUT WOOD<S> LIKE THE SIDONIANS
6 Now therefore, order that cedars of Lebanon be cut down for me. My servants will be with your servants, and I will pay your servants whatever wages you set, for you know that there are none among us as skilled in logging as the Sidonians.”
7 AND IT WAS WHEN HEARD HIRAM <OBJ.> [THE] WORDS OF SOLOMON AND HE REJOICED EXCEEDINGLY AND HE SAID [BE] BLESSED YAHWEH THIS DAY WHO HE HAS GIVEN TO DAVID A SON WISE OVER THE PEOPLE <THE> GREAT <THE> THIS
Hiram’s Reply to Solomon
(2 Chronicles 2:11–18 )
7 When Hiram received Solomon’s message, he rejoiced greatly and said, “Blessed be the LORD this day! He has given David a wise son over this great people!”
8 AND HE SENT HIRAM TO SOLOMON <TO> SAYING I HAVE HEARD <OBJ.> [THAT] WHICH YOU SENT TO ME I I WILL DO <OBJ.> ALL DESIRE YOUR IN WOOD<S> OF CEDAR<S> AND IN WOOD<S> OF CYPRESS<ES>
8 Then Hiram sent a reply to Solomon, saying:
“I have received your message I will do all you desire regarding the cedar and cypress timber.
9 SERVANTS MY THEY WILL BRING [THEM] DOWN FROM <THE> LEBANON [THE] SEA TOWARDS AND I I WILL MAKE THEM RAFTS ON THE SEA TO THE PLACE WHICH YOU WILL SEND TO ME AND I WILL BREAK UP THEM THERE AND YOU YOU WILL CARRY [THEM] AWAY AND YOU YOU WILL DO <OBJ.> DESIRE MY BY GIVING [THE] FOOD OF HOUSEHOLD MY
9 My servants will haul the logs from Lebanon to the Sea, and I will float them as rafts by sea to the place you specify. There I will separate the logs, and you can take them away. And in exchange, you can meet my needs by providing my household with food.”
10 AND HE WAS HIRAM GIVING TO SOLOMON WOOD<S> OF CEDAR<S> AND WOOD<S> OF CYPRESS<ES> ALL DESIRE HIS
10 So Hiram provided Solomon with all the cedar and cypress timber he wanted,
11 AND SOLOMON HE GAVE TO HIRAM TWENTY THOUSAND COR[S] OF WHEAT<S> FOOD FOR HOUSEHOLD HIS AND TWENTY COR[S] OF OIL PRESSED THUS HE GAVE SOLOMON TO HIRAM A YEAR IN A YEAR
11 and year after year Solomon would provide Hiram with 20,000 cors of wheat as food for his household, as well as 20,000 baths of pure olive oil.
12 AND YAHWEH HE GAVE WISDOM TO SOLOMON JUST AS HE HAD SPOKEN TO <THE> HIM AND IT WAS PEACE BETWEEN HIRAM AND BETWEEN SOLOMON AND THEY MADE A COVENANT [THE] TWO OF THEM
12 And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom, as He had promised him. There was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty.
13 AND HE RAISED THE KING SOLOMON FORCED LABOR FROM ALL ISRAEL AND IT WAS THE FORCED LABOR THIRTY THOUSAND MAN
Solomon’s Labor Force
13 Then King Solomon conscripted a labor force of 30,000 men from all Israel.
14 AND HE SENT THEM LEBANON TOWARDS TEN THOUSAND<S> IN THE MONTH RELAYS A MONTH THEY WERE IN <THE> LEBANON TWO MONTHS IN HOME HIS AND ADONIRAM [WAS] OVER THE FORCED LABOR
14 He sent them to Lebanon in monthly shifts of 10,000 men, so that they would spend one month in Lebanon and two months at home. And Adoniram was in charge of the forced labor.
15 AND IT BELONGED TO SOLOMON SEVENTY THOUSAND CARRIER[S] BURDEN-BEARER[S] AND EIGHTY THOUSAND STONE-CUTTER[S] IN THE HILL COUNTRY
15 Solomon had 70,000. porters and 80,000. stonecutters in the mountains,
16 <TO> APART FROM [THE] LEADERS OF THE OVERSEERS OF SOLOMON WHO [WERE] OVER THE WORK THREE THOUSAND<S> AND THREE HUNDRED<S> WHO RULED OVER THE PEOPLE WHO WERE DOING <IN> THE WORK
16 not including his 3,300. foremen who supervised the workers.
17 AND HE COMMANDED THE KING AND THEY QUARRIED STONES LARGE STONES COSTLY TO FOUND THE HOUSE STONES OF HEWN [STONE]
17 And the king commanded them to quarry large, costly stones to lay the foundation of the temple with dressed stones.
18 AND THEY CUT [THEM] TO SHAPE [THE] BUILDERS OF SOLOMON AND [THE] BUILDERS OF HIRAM AND THE GEBALITES AND THEY PREPARED THE WOOD<S> AND THE STONES TO BUILD THE HOUSE
18 So Solomon’s and Hiram’s builders, along with the Gebalites, quarried the stone and prepared the timber and stone for the construction of the temple.
