Temple Construction Begins
(1 Kings 6:1–4 )
1 Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to his father David. This was the place that David had prepared on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
2 AND HE BEGAN TO BUILD IN THE MONTH <THE> SECOND ON THE SECOND [DAY] IN YEAR FOUR OF REIGN HIS
2 Solomon began construction on the second day of the second month in the fourth year of his reign.
3 AND THESE [ARE] [THE] FOUNDING OF SOLOMON TO BUILD <OBJ.> [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> GOD THE LENGTH CUBITS BY THE MEASUREMENT <THE> FORMER [WAS] CUBITS SIXTY AND [THE] BREADTH [WAS] CUBITS TWENTY
3 The foundation that Solomon laid for the house of God was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide, according to the old standard.
4 AND THE PORCH WHICH [WAS] ON [THE] FACE OF THE LENGTH ON [THE] FACE OF [THE] BREADTH OF THE HOUSE [WAS] CUBITS TWENTY AND THE HEIGHT [WAS] ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY AND HE OVERLAID IT FROM WITHIN GOLD PURE
4 The portico at the front, extending across the width of the temple, was twenty cubits long and twenty cubits high. He overlaid the inside with pure gold.
5 AND <OBJ.> THE HOUSE <THE> GREAT HE OVERLAID WOOD OF CYPRESSES AND HE OVERLAID IT GOLD FINE AND HE PUT UP ON IT PALM TREES AND CHAINS
The Temple’s Interior
(1 Kings 6:14–22 )
5 He paneled the main room with cypress, which he overlaid with fine gold and decorated with palm trees and chains.
6 AND HE OVERLAID <OBJ.> THE HOUSE STONE[S] PRECIOUS FOR BEAUTY AND THE GOLD [WAS] [THE] GOLD OF PARVAIM
6 He adorned the temple with precious stones for beauty, and its gold was from Parvaim.
7 AND HE OVERLAID <OBJ.> THE HOUSE THE BEAMS THE THRESHOLDS AND WALLS ITS AND DOORS ITS GOLD AND HE ENGRAVED CHERUBIM ON THE WALLS
7 He overlaid its beams, thresholds, walls, and doors with gold, and he carved cherubim on the walls.
8 AND HE MADE <OBJ.> [THE] HOUSE OF [THE] HOLY PLACE OF THE HOLY PLACES LENGTH ITS ON [THE] FACE OF [THE] BREADTH OF THE HOUSE [WAS] CUBITS TWENTY AND BREADTH ITS [WAS] CUBITS TWENTY AND HE OVERLAID IT GOLD FINE TO TALENTS SIX HUNDRED<S>
8 Then he made the Most Holy Place; its length corresponded to the width of the temple— twenty cubits long and twenty cubits wide. And he overlaid the inside with six hundred talents of fine gold.
9 AND [THE] WEIGHT OF NAILS TO SHEKELS FIFTY GOLD AND THE UPPER ROOMS HE OVERLAID GOLD
9 The weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. He also overlaid the upper rooms with gold.
10 AND HE MADE IN [THE] HOUSE OF [THE] HOLY PLACE OF THE HOLY PLACES CHERUBIM TWO A WORK OF CASTINGS AND THEY OVERLAID <OBJ.> THEM GOLD
The Cherubim
(1 Kings 6:23–30 )
10 In the Most Holy Place he made two cherubim of sculptured work, and he overlaid them with gold.
11 AND [THE] WINGS OF THE CHERUBIM LENGTH THEIR [WAS] CUBITS TWENTY [THE] WING OF THE ONE [CHERUB] TO CUBITS FIVE [WAS] TOUCHING <TO> [THE] WALL OF THE HOUSE AND THE WING <THE> OTHER CUBITS FIVE [WAS] TOUCHING <TO> [THE] WING OF THE CHERUB <THE> OTHER
11 The total wingspan of the cherubim was twenty cubits. One wing of the first cherub was five cubits long and touched the wall of the temple, and its other wing was five cubits long and touched the wing of the other cherub.
12 AND [THE] WING OF THE CHERUB <THE> ONE CUBITS FIVE [WAS] TOUCHING <TO> [THE] WALL OF THE HOUSE AND THE WING <THE> OTHER CUBITS FIVE [WAS] CLINGING TO [THE] WING OF THE CHERUB <THE> OTHER
12 The wing of the second cherub also measured five cubits and touched the wall of the temple, while its other wing measured five cubits and touched the wing of the first cherub.
13 [THE] WINGS OF THE CHERUBIM <THE> THESE [WERE] SPREADING OUT CUBITS TWENTY AND THEY [WERE] STANDING ON FEET THEIR AND FACES THEIR [WERE] TO THE INSIDE
13 So the total wingspan of these cherubim was twenty cubits. They stood on their feet, facing the main room.
14 AND HE MADE <OBJ.> THE CURTAIN VIOLET AND PURPLE AND CRIMSON AND FINE LINEN AND HE PUT UP ON IT CHERUBIM
The Veil and Pillars
(1 Kings 7:13–22 )
14 He made the veil of blue, purple, and crimson yarn and fine linen, with cherubim woven into it.
15 AND HE MADE <TO> BEFORE THE HOUSE PILLARS TWO CUBITS THIRTY AND FIVE LENGTH AND THE CAPITAL WHICH [WAS] ON TOP ITS [WAS] CUBITS FIVE
15 In front of the temple he made two pillars, which together were thirty-five cubits high, each with a capital on top measuring five cubits.
16 AND HE MADE CHAINS IN THE INNERMOST ROOM AND HE PUT [THEM] ON [THE] TOP OF THE PILLARS AND HE MADE POMEGRANATES ONE HUNDRED AND HE PUT [THEM] ON THE CHAINS
16 He made interwoven chains and put them on top of the pillars. He made a hundred pomegranates and fastened them into the chainwork.
17 AND HE SET UP <OBJ.> THE PILLARS ON [THE] FACE THE TEMPLE ONE FROM [THE] SOUTH AND ONE FROM THE NORTH AND HE CALLED [THE] NAME OF THE SOUTH [ONE] JAKIN AND [THE] NAME OF THE NORTH [ONE] BOAZ
17 Then he set up the pillars in front of the temple, one on the south and one on the north. The pillar on the south he named Jachin, and the pillar on the north he named Boaz.
