38AND HE LAY DOWN JOTHAM WITH ANCESTORS HIS AND HE WAS BURIED WITH ANCESTORS HIS IN [THE] CITY OF DAVID ANCESTOR HIS AND HE BECAME KING AHAZ SON HIS IN PLACE OF HIM 38And Jotham rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David his father. And his son Ahaz reigned in his place.
1IN YEAR SEVEN- TEEN YEAR OF PEKAH [THE] SON OF REMALIAH HE BECAME KING AHAZ [THE] SON OF JOTHAM [THE] KING OF JUDAH Ahaz Reigns in Judah (2 Chronicles 28:1–4) 1In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz son of Jotham became king of Judah.
2[WAS] A SON OF TWENTY YEAR[S] AHAZ WHEN BECAME KING HE AND SIX- TEEN YEAR[S] HE REIGNED IN JERUSALEM AND NOT HE DID THE RIGHT IN [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH GOD HIS LIKE DAVID ANCESTOR HIS 2Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. And unlike David his father, he did not do what was right in the eyes of the LORD his God.
3AND HE WALKED IN [THE] WAY OF [THE] KINGS OF ISRAEL AND ALSO <OBJ.> SON HIS HE MADE PASS IN THE FIRE ACCORDING TO [THE] ABOMINATIONS OF THE NATIONS WHICH HE HAD DISPOSSESSED YAHWEH <OBJ.> THEM FROM BEFORE [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 3Instead, he walked in the ways of the kings of Israel and even sacrificed his son in the fire,*NoteCloseLiterally made his son pass through the fire according to the abominations of the nations that the LORD had driven out before the Israelites.
4AND HE SACRIFICED AND HE MADE SMOKE AT THE HIGH PLACES AND ON THE HILLS AND UNDER EVERY TREE LUXURIANT 4And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree.
5THEN HE CAME UP REZIN [THE] KING OF ARAM AND PEKAH [THE] SON OF REMALIAH [THE] KING OF ISRAEL JERUSALEM FOR <THE> BATTLE AND THEY LAID SIEGE ON AHAZ AND NOT THEY WERE ABLE TO DO BATTLE 5Then Rezin king of Aram and Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel came up to wage war against Jerusalem. They besieged Ahaz but could not overcome him.
6AT THE TIME <THE> THAT HE RESTORED REZIN [THE] KING OF ARAM <OBJ.> ELATH TO ARAM AND HE CLEARED OUT <OBJ.> THE JEWS FROM ELATH AND EDOMITES THEY CAME ELATH AND THEY HAVE DWELT THERE UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS 6At that time Rezin king of Aram recovered Elath*NoteCloseElath is a variant of Eloth; see 1 Kings 9:26. for Aram,*NoteCloseOr Syria drove out the men of Judah and sent the Edomites into Elath, where they live to this day.
7AND HE SENT AHAZ MESSENGERS TO TIGLATH- PILESER [THE] KING OF ASSYRIA <TO> SAYING [AM] SERVANT YOUR AND SON YOUR I COME UP AND DELIVER ME FROM [THE] HAND OF [THE] KING OF ARAM AND FROM [THE] HAND OF [THE] KING OF ISRAEL WHO ARE RISING UP ON ME 7So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, saying, “I am your servant and your son. Come up and save me from the hands of the kings of Aram and Israel, who are rising up against me.”
8AND HE TOOK AHAZ <OBJ.> THE SILVER AND <OBJ.> THE GOLD WHICH WAS FOUND [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH AND IN [THE] TREASURIES OF [THE] HOUSE OF THE KING AND HE SENT [IT] TO [THE] KING OF ASSYRIA A GIFT 8Ahaz also took the silver and gold found in the house of the LORD and in the treasuries of the king’s palace, and he sent it as a gift to the king of Assyria.
9AND HE LISTENED TO HIM [THE] KING OF ASSYRIA AND HE CAME UP [THE] KING OF ASSYRIA TO DAMASCUS AND HE SEIZED IT AND HE TOOK INTO EXILE IT KIR TOWARDS AND <OBJ.> REZIN HE PUT TO DEATH 9So the king of Assyria responded to him, marched up to Damascus, and captured it. He took its people to Kir as captives and put Rezin to death.
10AND HE WENT THE KING AHAZ TO MEET TIGLATH- PILESER [THE] KING OF ASSYRIA DAMASCUS AND HE SAW <OBJ.> THE ALTAR WHICH [WAS] IN DAMASCUS AND HE SENT THE KING AHAZ TO URIAH THE PRIEST <OBJ.> [THE] LIKENESS OF THE ALTAR AND <OBJ.> PATTERN ITS FOR ALL WORK ITS The Idolatry of Ahaz (2 Chronicles 28:16–27) 10Then King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria. On seeing the altar in Damascus, King Ahaz sent Uriah the priest a model of the altar and complete plans for its construction.
11AND HE BUILT URIAH THE PRIEST <OBJ.> THE ALTAR ACCORDING TO ALL THAT HE HAD SENT THE KING AHAZ FROM DAMASCUS SO HE DID URIAH THE PRIEST UNTIL CAME THE KING AHAZ FROM DAMASCUS 11And Uriah the priest built the altar according to all the instructions King Ahaz had sent from Damascus, and he completed it before King Ahaz returned.
12AND HE CAME THE KING FROM DAMASCUS AND HE SAW THE KING <OBJ.> THE ALTAR AND HE DREW NEAR THE KING TO THE ALTAR AND HE OFFERED UP ON IT 12When the king came back from Damascus and saw the altar, he approached it and presented offerings on it.
13AND HE MADE SMOKE <OBJ.> BURNT OFFERING HIS AND <OBJ.> GRAIN OFFERING HIS AND HE POURED OUT <OBJ.> DRINK OFFERING HIS AND HE SPRINKLED <OBJ.> [THE] BLOOD OF THE PEACE OFFERINGS WHICH [BELONGED] TO HIM ON THE ALTAR 13He offered his burnt offering and his grain offering, poured out his drink offering, and splattered the blood of his peace offerings on the altar.
14AND <OBJ.> THE ALTAR OF <THE> BRONZE WHICH [WAS] <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH AND HE BROUGHT NEAR FROM WITH [THE] FACE OF THE HOUSE FROM BETWEEN THE ALTAR AND FROM BETWEEN [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH AND HE PUT <OBJ.> IT ON [THE] SIDE OF THE ALTAR NORTH -WARD 14He also took the bronze altar that stood before the LORD from the front of the temple (between the new altar and the house of the LORD) and he put it on the north side of the new altar.
15AND HE COMMANDED THE KING AHAZ <OBJ.> URIAH THE PRIEST <TO> SAYING ON THE ALTAR <THE> GREAT MAKE SMOKE <OBJ.> [THE] BURNT OFFERING OF THE MORNING AND <OBJ.> [THE] GRAIN OFFERING OF THE EVENING AND <OBJ.> [THE] BURNT OFFERING OF THE KING AND <OBJ.> GRAIN OFFERING HIS AND <OBJ.> [THE] BURNT OFFERING OF ALL [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND AND GRAIN OFFERING THEIR AND DRINK OFFERINGS THEIR AND ALL [THE] BLOOD OF [THE] BURNT OFFERING AND ALL [THE] BLOOD OF [THE] SACRIFICE ON IT YOU WILL SPRINKLE AND [THE] ALTAR OF <THE> BRONZE IT WILL BELONG TO ME TO CONSULT 15Then King Ahaz commanded Uriah the priest, “Offer on the great altar the morning burnt offering, the evening grain offering, and the king’s burnt offering and grain offering, as well as the burnt offerings, grain offerings, and drink offerings of all the people of the land. Splatter on the altar all the blood of the burnt offerings and sacrifices. But I will use the bronze altar to seek guidance.”
16AND HE DID URIAH THE PRIEST ACCORDING TO ALL THAT HE COMMANDED THE KING AHAZ 16So Uriah the priest did just as King Ahaz had commanded.
17AND HE CUT OFF THE KING AHAZ <OBJ.> THE RIMS OF THE STANDS AND HE REMOVED FROM ON <THE> THEM <OBJ.> THE LAVER AND <OBJ.> THE SEA HE TOOK DOWN FROM ON THE OX[EN] THE BRONZE WHICH [WERE] UNDER IT AND HE PUT <OBJ.> IT ON A PAVEMENT OF STONE<S> 17King Ahaz also cut off the frames of the movable stands and removed the bronze basin from each of them. He took down the Sea from the bronze oxen that were under it and put it on a stone base.
18AND <OBJ.> [THE] COVERED STRUCTURE OF THE SABBATH WHICH PEOPLE HAD BUILT IN THE HOUSE AND <OBJ.> [THE] ENTRANCE OF THE KING <THE> OUTER HE REMOVED [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH <FROM> BECAUSE OF [THE] KING OF ASSYRIA 18And on account of the king of Assyria, he removed the Sabbath canopy*NoteCloseOr the base of his throne; see also LXX. they had built in the temple and closed the royal entryway outside the house of the LORD.
19AND [THE] REST OF [THE] MATTERS OF AHAZ WHICH HE DID ¿ NOT [ARE] THEY WRITTEN ON [THE] SCROLL OF [THE] MATTERS OF THE DAYS OF [THE] KINGS OF JUDAH 19As for the rest of the acts of Ahaz, along with his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
20AND HE LAY DOWN AHAZ WITH ANCESTORS HIS AND HE WAS BURIED WITH ANCESTORS HIS IN [THE] CITY OF DAVID AND HE BECAME KING HEZEKIAH SON HIS IN PLACE OF HIM 20And Ahaz rested with his fathers and was buried with them in the City of David, and his son Hezekiah reigned in his place.
