37AND IT WAS HE [WAS] BOWING DOWN [THE] HOUSE OF NISROCH GOD HIS AND ADRAMMELECH AND SHAREZER SONS HIS THEY STRUCK DOWN HIM WITH THE SWORD AND THEY THEY ESCAPED [THE] LAND OF ARARAT AND HE BECAME KING ESAR- -HADDON SON HIS IN PLACE OF HIM 37One day, while he was worshiping in the temple of his god Nisroch, his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer*NoteCloseLXX and an alternate MT reading (see also Isaiah 37:38); MT lacks his sons. put him to the sword and escaped to the land of Ararat. And his son Esar-haddon reigned in his place.
1IN THE DAYS <THE> THOSE HE BECAME SICK HEZEKIAH TO DIE AND HE CAME TO HIM ISAIAH [THE] SON OF AMOZ THE PROPHET AND HE SAID TO HIM THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH COMMAND TO HOUSEHOLD YOUR THAT [ARE] ABOUT TO DIE YOU AND NOT YOU WILL LIVE Hezekiah’s Illness and Recovery (2 Chronicles 32:24–31; Isaiah 38:1–8) 1In those days Hezekiah became mortally ill. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him and said “This is what the LORD says: ‘Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you will not recover.’”
2AND HE TURNED AROUND <OBJ.> FACE HIS TO THE WALL AND HE PRAYED TO YAHWEH <TO> SAYING 2Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the LORD, saying,
3I BEG YOU O YAHWEH REMEMBER PLEASE <OBJ.> THIS: I HAVE WALKED ABOUT <TO> BEFORE YOU IN FAITHFULNESS AND WITH A HEART COMPLETE AND THE GOOD IN VIEW YOUR I HAVE DONE AND HE WEPT HEZEKIAH WEEPING GREAT 3“Please, O LORD, remember how I have walked before You faithfully and with wholehearted devotion; I have done what is good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4AND IT WAS ISAIAH NOT HE HAD GONE OUT [THE] COURT <THE> MIDDLE AND [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH IT CAME TO HIM <TO> SAYING 4Before Isaiah had left the middle courtyard,*NoteCloseLXX and an alternate MT reading; the other alternate reads the middle of the city the word of the LORD came to him, saying,
5GO BACK AND YOU WILL SAY TO HEZEKIAH [THE] RULER OF PEOPLE MY THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF DAVID ANCESTOR YOUR I HAVE HEARD <OBJ.> PRAYER YOUR I HAVE SEEN <OBJ.> TEAR[S] YOUR HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO HEAL <TO> YOU ON THE DAY <THE> THIRD YOU WILL GO UP [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH 5“Go back and tell Hezekiah the leader of My people that this is what the LORD, the God of your father David, says: ‘I have heard your prayer; I have seen your tears. I will surely heal you. On the third day from now you will go up to the house of the LORD.
6AND I WILL ADD TO DAYS YOUR FIF- TEEN YEAR[S] AND FROM [THE] HAND OF [THE] KING OF ASSYRIA I WILL DELIVER YOU AND <OBJ.> THE CITY <THE> THIS AND I WILL DEFEND <ON> THE CITY <THE> THIS FOR OWN SAKE MY AND FOR [THE] SAKE OF DAVID SERVANT MY 6I will add fifteen years to your life. And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city for My sake and for the sake of My servant David.’”
7AND HE SAID ISAIAH TAKE A CAKE OF FIGS AND PEOPLE TOOK [IT] AND THEY PUT [IT] ON THE BOIL AND HE LIVED 7Then Isaiah said, “Prepare a poultice of figs.” So they brought it and applied it to the boil, and Hezekiah recovered.
8AND HE SAID HEZEKIAH TO ISAIAH WHAT? [WILL BE] A SIGN THAT HE WILL HEAL YAHWEH <TO> ME AND I WILL GO UP ON THE DAY <THE> THIRD [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH 8Now Hezekiah had asked Isaiah, “What will be the sign that the LORD will heal me and that I will go up to the house of the LORD on the third day?”
9AND HE SAID ISAIAH THIS FOR YOU [WILL BE] THE SIGN FROM WITH YAHWEH THAT HE WILL DO YAHWEH <OBJ.> THE THING WHICH HE HAS SPOKEN IT HAS GONE THE SHADOW TEN STEPS OR? WILL IT GO BACK TEN STEPS 9And Isaiah had replied, “This will be a sign to you from the LORD that He will do what He has promised: Would you like the shadow to go forward ten steps, or back ten steps?”
10AND HE SAID HEZEKIAH IT IS TRIFLING TO THE SHADOW TO STRETCH OUT TEN STEPS IN- DEED LET IT GO BACK THE SHADOW BACKWARDS TEN STEPS 10“It is easy for the shadow to lengthen ten steps,” answered Hezekiah, “but not for it to go back ten steps.”
11AND HE CALLED OUT ISAIAH THE PROPHET TO YAHWEH AND HE TURNED BACK <OBJ.> THE SHADOW ON THE STEPS WHICH IT HAD GONE DOWN ON [THE] STEPS OF AHAZ BACKWARDS TEN STEPS 11So Isaiah the prophet called out to the LORD, and He brought the shadow back the ten steps it had descended on the stairway of Ahaz.
12AT THE TIME <THE> THAT HE SENT MERODACH- BALADAN [THE] SON OF BALADAN [THE] KING OF BABYLON LETTERS AND A GIFT TO HEZEKIAH FOR HE HAD HEARD THAT HE HAD BEEN SICK HEZEKIAH Hezekiah Shows His Treasures (Isaiah 39:1–8) 12At that time Merodach-baladan*NoteCloseSome Hebrew manuscripts, LXX, and Syriac (see also Isaiah 39:1); MT Berodach-baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he had heard about Hezekiah’s illness.
13AND HE LISTENED TO THEM HEZEKIAH AND HE SHOWED THEM <OBJ.> ALL [THE] HOUSE OF TREASURE HIS <OBJ.> THE SILVER AND <OBJ.> THE GOLD AND <OBJ.> THE SPICES AND <OBJ.> [THE] OIL OF THE GOOD AND <OBJ.> [THE] HOUSE OF WEAPONS HIS AND <OBJ.> ALL THAT IT WAS FOUND IN STOREHOUSES HIS NOT IT WAS ANYTHING WHICH NOT HE SHOWED THEM HEZEKIAH IN HOUSE HIS AND IN ALL REALM HIS 13And Hezekiah received the envoys and showed them all that was in his treasure house – the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, as well as his armory all that was found in his storehouses. There was nothing in his palace or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them.
14AND HE CAME ISAIAH THE PROPHET TO THE KING HEZEKIAH AND HE SAID TO HIM WHAT? DID THEY SAY THE MEN <THE> THESE AND FROM WHERE? ARE THEY COMING TO YOU AND HE SAID HEZEKIAH FROM A LAND DISTANT THEY CAME FROM BABYLON 14Then the prophet Isaiah went to King Hezekiah and asked, “Where did those men come from, and what did they say to you?” “They came from a distant land,” Hezekiah replied, “from Babylon.”
15AND HE SAID WHAT? DID THEY SEE IN HOUSE YOUR AND HE SAID HEZEKIAH <OBJ.> ALL THAT [IS] IN HOUSE MY THEY SAW NOT IT WAS ANYTHING WHICH NOT I SHOWED THEM IN STOREHOUSES MY 15“What have they seen in your palace?” Isaiah asked. “They have seen everything in my palace,” answered Hezekiah. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”
16AND HE SAID ISAIAH TO HEZEKIAH HEAR [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH 16Then Isaiah said to Hezekiah, “Hear the word of the LORD:
17HERE! DAYS [ARE] COMING AND IT WILL BE CARRIED OFF ALL THAT [IS] IN HOUSE YOUR AND [THAT] WHICH THEY HAVE STORED UP ANCESTORS YOUR UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS BABYLON TOWARDS NOT IT WILL BE LEFT BEHIND ANYTHING HE SAYS YAHWEH 17The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
18AND SOME OF DESCENDANTS YOUR WHO THEY WILL COME FORTH FROM YOU WHOM YOU WILL FATHER PEOPLE WILL TAKE AWAY AND THEY WILL BE EUNUCHS IN [THE] PALACE OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON 18And some of your descendants, your own flesh and blood, will be taken away to be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.”
19AND HE SAID HEZEKIAH TO ISAIAH [IS] GOOD [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH WHICH YOU HAVE SPOKEN AND HE SAID ¿ NOT IF PEACE AND STABILITY IT WILL BE IN DAYS MY 19But Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “Will there not at least be peace and security in my lifetime?”
20AND [THE] REST OF [THE] MATTERS OF HEZEKIAH AND ALL MIGHT HIS AND WHICH HE MADE <OBJ.> THE POOL AND <OBJ.> THE CONDUIT AND HE BROUGHT <OBJ.> THE WATERS THE CITY TOWARDS ¿ NOT [ARE] THEY WRITTEN ON [THE] SCROLL OF [THE] MATTERS OF THE DAYS OF [THE] KINGS OF JUDAH Manasseh Succeeds Hezekiah 20As for the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, along with all his might and how he constructed the pool and the tunnel*NoteCloseOr watercourse or conduit to bring water into the city, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
21AND HE LAY DOWN HEZEKIAH WITH ANCESTORS HIS AND HE BECAME KING MANASSEH SON HIS IN PLACE OF HIM 21And Hezekiah rested with his fathers, and his son Manasseh reigned in his place.
