22<IN> SEVENTY PERSON[S] THEY WENT DOWN ANCESTORS YOUR EGYPT TOWARDS AND NOW HE HAS MADE YOU YAHWEH GOD YOUR LIKE [THE] STARS OF THE HEAVENS FOR MULTITUDE 22Your fathers went down to Egypt, seventy in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.
1AND YOU WILL LOVE <OBJ.> YAHWEH GOD YOUR AND YOU WILL KEEP COMMAND HIS AND STATUTES HIS AND JUDGMENTS HIS AND COMMANDMENTS HIS ALL THE DAYS Obedience and Discipline (Deuteronomy 4:1–14) 1You shall therefore love the LORD your God and always keep His charge, His statutes, His ordinances, and His commandments.
2AND YOU WILL KNOW THIS DAY THAT NOT <OBJ.> CHILDREN YOUR WHO NOT THEY HAVE KNOWN AND WHO NOT THEY HAVE SEEN <OBJ.> [THE] TRAINING OF YAHWEH GOD YOUR <OBJ.> GREATNESS HIS <OBJ.> HAND HIS <THE> MIGHTY AND ARM HIS <THE> OUTSTRETCHED 2Know this day that it is not your children who have known and seen the discipline of the LORD your God: His greatness, His mighty hand, and His outstretched arm;
3AND <OBJ.> SIGNS HIS AND <OBJ.> DEEDS HIS WHICH HE DID IN [THE] MIDST OF EGYPT TO PHARAOH [THE] KING OF EGYPT AND TO ALL LAND HIS 3the signs and works He did in Egypt to Pharaoh king of Egypt and all his land;
4AND WHICH HE DID TO [THE] ARMY OF EGYPT TO HORSES ITS AND TO CHARIOTRY ITS WHEN HE CAUSED TO FLOW <OBJ.> [THE] WATER OF [THE] SEA OF REED[S] OVER FACES THEIR WHEN PURSUED THEY AFTER YOU AND HE DESTROYED THEM YAHWEH UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS 4what He did to the Egyptian army and horses and chariots when He made the waters of the Red Sea*NoteCloseOr the Sea of Reeds engulf them as they pursued you, and how He destroyed them completely, even to this day;
5AND WHICH HE DID TO <THE> YOU IN THE WILDERNESS UNTIL CAME YOU TO THE PLACE <THE> THIS 5what He did for you in the wilderness until you reached this place;
6AND WHICH HE DID TO DATHAN AND TO ABIRAM [THE] SONS OF ELIAB [THE] SON OF REUBEN WHEN IT OPENED THE EARTH <OBJ.> MOUTH ITS AND IT SWALLOWED THEM AND <OBJ.> HOUSEHOLDS THEIR AND <OBJ.> TENTS THEIR AND <OBJ.> ALL THE SUBSTANCE WHICH [WAS] AT FEET THEIR IN [THE] MIDST OF ALL ISRAEL 6and what He did in the midst of all the Israelites to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth and swallowed them, their households, their tents, and every living thing that belonged to them.
7FOR EYES YOUR [ARE] THE [ONES WHICH] SAW <OBJ.> ALL [THE] WORK OF YAHWEH <THE> GREAT WHICH HE DID 7For it is your own eyes that have seen every great work that the LORD has done.
8AND YOU WILL KEEP <OBJ.> ALL THE COMMANDMENT WHICH I [AM] COMMANDING YOU THIS DAY SO THAT YOU MAY BE STRONG AND YOU WILL GO AND YOU WILL TAKE POSSESSION OF <OBJ.> THE LAND WHERE YOU [ARE] ABOUT TO PASS OVER THERE TOWARDS TO TAKE POSSESSION OF IT God’s Great Blessings (Joshua 1:1–9) 8You shall therefore keep every commandment I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and possess the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,
9AND SO THAT YOU MAY PROLONG DAYS ON THE LAND WHICH HE SWORE YAHWEH TO ANCESTORS YOUR TO GIVE TO THEM AND TO OFFSPRING THEIR A LAND FLOWING OF MILK AND HONEY 9and so that you may live long in the land that the LORD swore to your fathers to give them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.
10FOR THE LAND WHERE YOU [ARE] ABOUT TO GO THERE TOWARDS TO TAKE POSSESSION OF IT NOT [IS] LIKE [THE] LAND OF EGYPT IT WHERE YOU CAME OUT FROM THERE WHERE YOU SOWED <OBJ.> SEED YOUR AND YOU WATERED [IT] WITH FOOT YOUR LIKE [THE] GARDEN OF <THE> VEGETABLE[S] 10For the land that you are entering to possess is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you sowed your seed and irrigated on foot, like a vegetable garden.
11AND THE LAND WHERE YOU [ARE] ABOUT TO PASS OVER THERE TOWARDS TO TAKE POSSESSION OF IT [IS] A LAND OF MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS TO [THE] RAIN OF THE HEAVENS IT DRINKS WATER 11But the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks in the rain from heaven.
12A LAND WHICH YAHWEH GOD YOUR [IS] CARING FOR <OBJ.> IT CONTINUALLY [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH GOD YOUR [ARE] ON <THE> IT FROM [THE] BEGINNING OF THE YEAR AND UNTIL [THE] END OF A YEAR 12It is a land for which the LORD your God cares; the eyes of the LORD your God are always on it, from the beginning to the end of the year.
13AND IT WILL BE <IF> CERTAINLY [IF] <TO OBEY> YOU WILL OBEY <TO> COMMANDMENTS MY WHICH I [AM] COMMANDING <OBJ.> YOU THIS DAY TO LOVE <OBJ.> YAHWEH GOD YOUR AND TO SERVE HIM WITH ALL HEART YOUR AND WITH ALL BEING YOUR 13So if you carefully obey the commandments I am giving you today to love the LORD your God and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,
14AND I WILL GIVE [THE] RAIN OF LAND YOUR AT APPROPRIATE TIME ITS AUTUMN RAIN AND SPRING RAIN AND YOU WILL GATHER GRAIN YOUR AND NEW WINE YOUR AND FRESH OIL YOUR 14then I will provide*NoteCloseHebrew; SP, LXX, and Vulgate He will provide; also in verse 15 rain for your land in season, the autumn and spring rains, that you may gather your grain, new wine, and oil.
15AND I WILL GIVE GRASS IN FIELD[S] YOUR FOR CATTLE YOUR AND YOU WILL EAT AND YOU WILL BE SATISFIED 15And I will provide grass in the fields for your livestock, and you will eat and be satisfied.
16TAKE HEED TO <THE> YOURSELVES LEST IT SHOULD BE DECEIVED HEART YOUR AND YOU WILL TURN ASIDE AND YOU WILL SERVE GODS OTHER AND YOU WILL BOW DOWN TO <THE> THEM 16But be careful that you are not enticed to turn aside to worship and bow down to other gods,
17AND IT WILL BURN [THE] ANGER OF YAHWEH ON <THE> YOU AND HE WILL SHUT UP <OBJ.> THE HEAVENS AND NOT IT WILL COME RAIN AND THE GROUND NOT IT WILL YIELD <OBJ.> PRODUCE ITS AND YOU WILL PERISH QUICKLY FROM ON THE LAND <THE> GOOD WHICH YAHWEH [IS] ABOUT TO GIVE TO <THE> YOU 17or the anger of the LORD will be kindled against you. He will shut the heavens so that there will be no rain, nor will the land yield its produce, and you will soon perish from the good land that the LORD is giving you.
18AND YOU WILL PUT <OBJ.> WORDS MY THESE ON HEART YOUR AND ON BEING YOUR AND YOU WILL TIE <OBJ.> THEM FOR A SIGN ON HAND YOUR AND THEY WILL BE FOR MARKS BETWEEN EYES YOUR Remember God’s Words 18Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as reminders on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.
19AND YOU WILL TEACH <OBJ.> THEM <OBJ.> CHILDREN YOUR BY SPEAKING IN <THE> THEM WHEN SITTING YOU IN HOUSE YOUR AND WHEN WALKING YOU ON THE ROAD AND WHEN LYING DOWN YOU AND WHEN RISING UP YOU 19Teach them to your children, speaking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
20AND YOU WILL WRITE THEM ON [THE] DOORPOSTS OF HOUSE YOUR AND ON GATES YOUR 20Write them on the doorposts of your houses and on your gates,
21SO THAT THEY MAY INCREASE DAYS YOUR AND [THE] DAYS OF CHILDREN YOUR ON THE LAND WHICH HE SWORE YAHWEH TO ANCESTORS YOUR TO GIVE TO <THE> THEM LIKE [THE] DAYS OF THE HEAVENS ABOVE THE EARTH 21so that as long as the heavens are above the earth, your days and those of your children may be multiplied in the land that the LORD swore to give your fathers.
22THAT EXCEPT CERTAINLY <TO KEEP> YOU WILL KEEP! <OBJ.> ALL THE COMMANDMENT <THE> THIS WHICH I [AM] COMMANDING <OBJ.> YOU TO DO IT TO LOVE <OBJ.> YAHWEH GOD YOUR TO WALK IN ALL WAYS HIS AND TO CLEAVE TO HIM 22For if you carefully keep all these commandments I am giving you to follow— to love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him—
23AND HE WILL DISPOSSESS YAHWEH <OBJ.> ALL THE NATIONS <THE> THESE FROM TO BEFORE YOU AND YOU WILL DISPOSSESS NATIONS GREAT AND MIGHTY MORE THAN YOU 23then the LORD will drive out all these nations before you, and you will dispossess nations greater and stronger than you.
24EVERY <THE> PLACE WHICH IT WILL TREAD [THE] SOLE OF FOOT YOUR ON <THE> IT TO <THE> YOU IT WILL BELONG FROM THE WILDERNESS AND <THE> LEBANON FROM THE RIVER [THE] RIVER OF EUPHRATES AND TO THE SEA <THE> WESTERN IT WILL BE TERRITORY YOUR 24Every place where the sole of your foot treads will be yours. Your territory will extend from the wilderness to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the Western Sea.*NoteCloseThat is, the Mediterranean Sea, also called the Great Sea
25NOT HE WILL STAND ANYONE IN FACES YOUR DREAD YOUR AND FEAR YOUR HE WILL PUT YAHWEH GOD YOUR OVER [THE] FACE OF ALL THE LAND WHICH YOU WILL TREAD ON <THE> IT JUST AS HE SPOKE TO <THE> YOU 25No man will be able to stand against you; the LORD your God will put the fear and dread of you upon all the land, wherever you set foot as He has promised you.
26SEE I [AM] SETTING <TO> BEFORE YOU THIS DAY A BLESSING AND A CURSE A Blessing and a Curse 26See, today I am setting before you a blessing and a curse—
27<OBJ.> THE BLESSING THAT YOU WILL OBEY <TO> [THE] COMMANDMENTS OF YAHWEH GOD YOUR WHICH I [AM] COMMANDING <OBJ.> YOU THIS DAY 27a blessing if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God that I am giving you today
28AND THE CURSE IF NOT YOU WILL OBEY <TO> [THE] COMMANDMENTS OF YAHWEH GOD YOUR AND YOU WILL TURN ASIDE FROM THE WAY WHICH I [AM] COMMANDING <OBJ.> YOU THIS DAY TO WALK AFTER GODS OTHER WHICH NOT YOU HAVE KNOWN 28but a curse if you disobey the commandments of the LORD your God and turn aside from the path I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.
29AND IT WILL BE THAT HE WILL BRING YOU YAHWEH GOD YOUR INTO THE LAND WHERE YOU [ARE] ABOUT TO GO THERE TOWARDS TO TAKE POSSESSION OF IT AND YOU WILL SET <OBJ.> THE BLESSING ON [THE] MOUNTAIN OF GERIZIM AND <OBJ.> THE CURSE ON [THE] MOUNTAIN OF EBAL 29When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess, you are to proclaim the blessing on Mount Gerizim and the curse on Mount Ebal.
30¿ NOT [ARE] THEY ON [THE] OTHER SIDE OF THE JORDAN BEHIND [THE] DIRECTION OF [THE] SETTING OF THE SUN IN [THE] LAND OF THE CANAANITE[S] WHO IS DWELLING IN THE ARABAH OPPOSITE TO <THE> GILGAL BESIDE [THE] GREAT TREES OF MOREH 30Are not these mountains across the Jordan, west of the road toward the sunset, in the land of the Canaanites who live in the Arabah opposite Gilgal near the Oak*NoteCloseSP, LXX, and Syriac (see Genesis 12:6); Hebrew Oaks or Terebinths or Great Trees of Moreh?
31FOR YOU [ARE] ABOUT TO PASS OVER <OBJ.> THE JORDAN TO GO TO TAKE POSSESSION OF <OBJ.> THE LAND WHICH YAHWEH GOD YOUR [IS] ABOUT TO GIVE TO <THE> YOU AND YOU WILL TAKE POSSESSION OF <OBJ.> IT AND YOU WILL DWELL IN <THE> IT 31For you are about to cross the Jordan to enter and possess the land that the LORD your God is giving you. When you take possession of it and settle in it,
32AND YOU WILL TAKE CARE TO OBSERVE <OBJ.> ALL THE STATUTES AND <OBJ.> THE JUDGMENTS WHICH I [AM] SETTING <TO> BEFORE YOU THIS DAY 32be careful to follow all the statutes and ordinances that I am setting before you today.
