19AND TO SET YOU MOST HIGH ABOVE ALL THE NATIONS WHICH HE HAS MADE FOR PRAISE AND FOR A NAME AND FOR HONOR AND TO BE YOU A PEOPLE HOLY TO YAHWEH GOD YOUR JUST AS HE SPOKE 19that He will set you high in praise and name and honor above all the nations He has made, and that you will be a holy people to the LORD your God, as He has promised.
1AND HE COMMANDED MOSES AND [THE] ELDERS OF ISRAEL <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE <TO> SAYING KEEP <OBJ.> ALL THE COMMANDMENT WHICH I [AM] COMMANDING <OBJ.> YOU THIS DAY The Altar on Mount Ebal (Joshua 8:30–35) 1Then Moses and the elders of Israel commanded the people: “Keep all the commandments I am giving you today.
2AND IT WILL BE ON THE DAY WHEN YOU WILL PASS OVER <OBJ.> THE JORDAN TO THE LAND WHICH YAHWEH GOD YOUR [IS] ABOUT TO GIVE TO <THE> YOU AND YOU WILL SET UP FOR <THE> YOURSELF STONES LARGE AND YOU WILL WHITEWASH <OBJ.> THEM WITH <THE> LIME 2And on the day you cross the Jordan into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, set up large stones and coat them with plaster.
3AND YOU WILL WRITE ON THEM <OBJ.> ALL [THE] WORDS OF THE LAW <THE> THIS WHEN PASSING OVER YOU SO THAT THIS YOU MAY GO INTO THE LAND WHICH YAHWEH GOD YOUR [IS] ABOUT TO GIVE TO <THE> YOU A LAND FLOWING OF MILK AND HONEY JUST AS HE SPOKE YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ANCESTORS YOUR TO <THE> YOU 3Write on them all the words of this law when you have crossed over to enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers has promised you.
4AND IT WILL BE WHEN HAVE PASSED OVER YOU <OBJ.> THE JORDAN YOU WILL SET UP <OBJ.> THE STONES <THE> THESE WHICH I [AM] COMMANDING <OBJ.> YOU THIS DAY ON [THE] MOUNTAIN OF EBAL AND YOU WILL WHITEWASH <OBJ.> THEM WITH <THE> LIME 4And when you have crossed the Jordan, you are to set up these stones on Mount Ebal, as I am commanding you today and you are to coat them with plaster.
5AND YOU WILL BUILD THERE AN ALTAR TO YAHWEH GOD YOUR AN ALTAR OF STONES NOT YOU WILL WIELD ON THEM IRON 5Moreover, you are to build there an altar to the LORD your God, an altar of stones. You must not use any iron tool on them.
6STONES COMPLETE YOU WILL BUILD <OBJ.> [THE] ALTAR OF YAHWEH GOD YOUR AND YOU WILL OFFER UP ON IT BURNT OFFERINGS TO YAHWEH GOD YOUR 6You shall build the altar of the LORD your God with uncut stones and offer upon it burnt offerings to the LORD your God.
7AND YOU WILL SACRIFICE PEACE OFFERINGS AND YOU WILL EAT [THEM] THERE AND YOU WILL REJOICE <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH GOD YOUR 7There you are to sacrifice your peace offerings, eating them and rejoicing in the presence of the LORD your God.
8AND YOU WILL WRITE ON THE STONES <OBJ.> ALL [THE] WORDS OF THE LAW <THE> THIS SURELY CLEARLY DOING WELL 8And you shall write distinctly upon these stones all the words of this law.”
9AND HE SPOKE MOSES AND THE PRIESTS THE LEVITES TO ALL ISRAEL <TO> SAYING KEEP SILENT AND LISTEN O ISRAEL THE DAY <THE> THIS YOU HAVE BECOME <INTO> A PEOPLE OF YAHWEH GOD YOUR 9Then Moses and the Levitical priests spoke to all Israel: “Be silent, O Israel, and listen! This day you have become the people of the LORD your God.
10AND YOU WILL LISTEN TO [THE] VOICE OF YAHWEH GOD YOUR AND YOU WILL DO <OBJ.> COMMANDMENTS HIS AND <OBJ.> STATUTES HIS WHICH I [AM] COMMANDING YOU THIS DAY 10You shall therefore obey the voice of the LORD your God and follow His commandments and statutes I am giving you today
11AND HE COMMANDED MOSES <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE ON THE DAY <THE> THAT <TO> SAYING Curses Pronounced from Ebal 11On that day Moses commanded the people:
12THESE [TRIBES] THEY WILL STAND TO BLESS <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE ON [THE] MOUNTAIN OF GERIZIM WHEN HAVE PASSED OVER YOU <OBJ.> THE JORDAN SIMEON AND LEVI AND JUDAH AND ISSACHAR AND JOSEPH AND BENJAMIN 12“When you have crossed the Jordan, these tribes shall stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people: Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph, and Benjamin.
13AND THESE [TRIBES] THEY WILL STAND ON THE CURSE ON [THE] MOUNTAIN OF EBAL REUBEN GAD AND ASHER AND ZEBULUN DAN AND NAPHTALI 13And these tribes shall stand on Mount Ebal to deliver the curse: Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.
14AND THEY WILL ANSWER THE LEVITES AND THEY WILL SAY TO EVERY PERSON OF ISRAEL A VOICE HIGH 14Then the Levites shall proclaim in a loud voice to every Israelite:
15[IS] CURSED THE PERSON WHO HE WILL MAKE AN IMAGE AND A MOLTEN IMAGE <THE> ABOMINATION OF YAHWEH [THE] WORK OF [THE] HANDS OF A CRAFTSMAN AND HE WILL SET [IT] UP IN <THE> SECRECY AND THEY WILL ANSWER ALL THE PEOPLE AND THEY WILL SAY AMEN 15‘Cursed is the man who makes a carved idol or molten image— an abomination to the LORD, the work of the hands of a craftsman— and sets it up in secret.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
16[IS] CURSED [ONE WHO] DISHONORS FATHER HIS AND MOTHER HIS AND IT WILL SAY ALL THE PEOPLE AMEN 16‘Cursed is he who dishonors his father or mother.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
17[IS] CURSED [ONE WHO] DISPLACES [THE] BOUNDARY OF NEIGHBOR HIS AND IT WILL SAY ALL THE PEOPLE AMEN 17‘Cursed is he who moves his neighbor’s boundary stone.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
18[IS] CURSED [ONE WHO] LEADS ASTRAY A BLIND [PERSON] ON THE WAY AND IT WILL SAY ALL THE PEOPLE AMEN 18‘Cursed is he who lets a blind man wander in the road.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
19[IS] CURSED [ONE WHO] TURNS ASIDE [THE] JUSTICE OF A SOJOURNER A FATHERLESS ONE AND A WIDOW AND IT WILL SAY ALL THE PEOPLE AMEN 19‘Cursed is he who withholds justice from the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
20[IS] CURSED [ONE WHO] LIES WITH [THE] WIFE OF FATHER HIS FOR HE HAS UNCOVERED [THE] SKIRT OF FATHER HIS AND IT WILL SAY ALL THE PEOPLE AMEN 20‘Cursed is he who sleeps with his father’s wife, for he has violated his father’s marriage bed.’*NoteCloseOr uncovered his father’s skirt And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
21[IS] CURSED [ONE WHO] LIES WITH ANY ANIMAL AND IT WILL SAY ALL THE PEOPLE AMEN 21‘Cursed is he who lies with any animal.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
22[IS] CURSED [ONE WHO] LIES WITH SISTER HIS [THE] DAUGHTER OF FATHER HIS OR [THE] DAUGHTER OF MOTHER HIS AND IT WILL SAY ALL THE PEOPLE AMEN 22‘Cursed is he who sleeps with his sister, the daughter of his father or the daughter of his mother.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
23[IS] CURSED [ONE WHO] LIES WITH MOTHER-IN-LAW HIS AND IT WILL SAY ALL THE PEOPLE AMEN 23‘Cursed is he who sleeps with his mother-in-law.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
24[IS] CURSED [ONE WHO] STRIKES <OF> NEIGHBOR HIS IN <THE> SECRECY AND IT WILL SAY ALL THE PEOPLE AMEN 24‘Cursed is he who strikes down his neighbor in secret.’ And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
25[IS] CURSED [ONE WHO] TAKES A BRIBE TO STRIKE DOWN A PERSON OF BLOOD INNOCENT AND IT WILL SAY ALL THE PEOPLE AMEN 25‘Cursed is he who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person And let all the people say, ‘Amen!’
