32DO BE NOW TO ONE ANOTHER KIND, TENDER-HEARTED, FORGIVING EACH OTHER EVEN AS ALSO <THE> GOD IN CHRIST FORGAVE YOU. 32Be kind and tenderhearted to one another, forgiving each other just as in Christ God forgave you.
1DO BE THEREFORE IMITATORS <THE> OF GOD AS CHILDREN BELOVED Imitators of God 1Be imitators of God, therefore, as beloved children,
2AND DO WALK IN LOVE EVEN AS ALSO <THE> CHRIST LOVED US AND GAVE UP HIMSELF FOR US [AS] AN OFFERING AND A SACRIFICE <THE> TO GOD INTO AN AROMA OF A SWEET SMELL. 2and walk in love, just as Christ loved us*NoteCloseNE and WH Christ loved you and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant sacrificial offering to God.
3SEXUAL IMMORALITY HOWEVER AND IMPURITY ALL OR COVETOUSNESS NOT EVEN SHOULD BE NAMED AMONG YOU AS IS PROPER TO SAINTS 3But among you, as is proper among the saints, there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed.
4AND FILTHINESS AND FOOLISH TALKING OR CRUDE JOKING WHICH NOT WERE FIT BUT RATHER THANKSGIVING. 4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk, or crude joking, which are out of character, but rather thanksgiving.
5THIS FOR YOU SHOULD KNOW REALIZING THAT ANY FORNICATOR OR UNCLEAN PERSON OR COVETOUS MAN, WHO IS AN IDOLATER, NOT HAS INHERITANCE IN THE KINGDOM <THE> OF CHRIST AND OF GOD. 5For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure, or greedy person (that is, an idolater) has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6NO ONE YOU SHOULD DECEIVE WITH EMPTY WORDS; BECAUSE OF THESE THINGS FOR COMES THE WRATH <THE> OF GOD UPON THE SONS <THE> OF DISOBEDIENCE. 6Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience.
8YOU WERE FOR ONCE DARKNESS NOW HOWEVER LIGHT IN [THE] LORD; AS CHILDREN OF LIGHT DO WALK — Children of Light 8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light,
9<THE> FOR THE FRUIT OF THE LIGHT [IS] IN ALL GOODNESS AND IN RIGHTEOUSNESS AND IN TRUTH — 9for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.
11AND NOT DO HAVE FELLOWSHIP WITH THE WORKS <THE> UNFRUITFUL <THE> OF DARKNESS, RATHER HOWEVER EVEN DO EXPOSE [THEM]; 11Have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
12THE [THINGS] FOR IN SECRET BEING DONE BY THEM SHAMEFUL IT IS EVEN TO MENTION. 12For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.
13<THE> BUT EVERYTHING BEING EXPOSED BY THE LIGHT IS MADE VISIBLE; 13But everything exposed by the light becomes visible,*NoteCloseSBL begins verse 14 after visible, for everything that is illuminated becomes a light itself.
14EVERYTHING FOR WHICH IS BECOMING VISIBLE LIGHT IS; [14] THEREFORE IT SAYS: DO AWAKE YOU WHO [ARE] SLEEPING AND DO RISE UP OUT FROM THE DEAD, AND WILL SHINE UPON YOU <THE> CHRIST. 14So it is said: “Wake up, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. ”
15DO TAKE HEED THEREFORE CAREFULLY HOW YOU WALK NOT AS UNWISE BUT AS WISE, 15Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as unwise but as wise,
17BECAUSE OF THIS NOT DO BE FOOLISH, BUT DO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE WILL OF THE LORD [IS]. 17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.
18AND NOT DO BE DRUNK WITH WINE, IN WHICH IS DEBAUCHERY, INSTEAD DO BE FILLED WITH [THE] SPIRIT 18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to reckless indiscretion. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.
19SPEAKING TO EACH OTHER IN PSALMS AND IN HYMNS AND IN SONGS SPIRITUAL, SINGING AND MAKING MELODY IN THE HEART OF YOU TO THE LORD, 19Speak to one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your hearts to the Lord,
20GIVING THANKS AT ALL TIMES FOR ALL THINGS IN [THE] NAME THE LORD OF US JESUS CHRIST TO THE GOD AND FATHER; 20always giving thanks to God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
21BE SUBMITTING YOURSELVES TO ONE ANOTHER IN REVERENCE OF CHRIST. Wives and Husbands (Song of Solomon 1:1–17; 1 Peter 3:1–7) 21Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.*NoteCloseOr in the fear of Christ.
22YOU WHO [ARE] WIVES, <THE> TO [YOUR] OWN HUSBANDS DO SUBMIT YOURSELVES AS TO THE LORD; 22Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord.
23FOR THE HUSBAND IS HEAD OF THE WIFE AS ALSO <THE> CHRIST [IS THE] HEAD OF THE CHURCH, AND HE HIMSELF IS SAVIOR OF THE BODY; 23For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, His body, of which He is the Savior.
24BUT EVEN AS THE CHURCH IS SUBJECTED <THE> TO CHRIST SO ALSO <THE> WIVES <THE> TO [THEIR] OWN HUSBANDS IN EVERYTHING. 24Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit to their husbands in everything.
25YOU WHO [ARE] HUSBANDS, DO LOVE THE WIVES OF YOUR OWN EVEN AS ALSO <THE> CHRIST LOVED THE CHURCH AND HIMSELF GAVE UP FOR HER 25Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her
26SO THAT HER HE MAY SANCTIFY HAVING CLEANSED [HER] BY THE WASHING <THE> OF WATER BY DECLARATION 26to sanctify her, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word,
27SO THAT MAY PRESENT HE HIMSELF TO HIMSELF IN GLORY THE CHURCH NOT HAVING SPOT OR WRINKLE OR ANY OF THE SUCH THINGS, BUT THAT IT MAY BE HOLY AND BLAMELESS. 27and to present her to Himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any such blemish, but holy and blameless.
28SO OUGHT ALSO <THE> HUSBANDS TO LOVE THE THEIR OWN WIVES AS THE THEIR OWN BODIES. THE [ONE] LOVING THE HIS OWN WIFE HIMSELF LOVES; 28In the same way husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself.
29NO [ONE] FOR AT ANY TIME THE HIS OWN FLESH HATED, BUT HE NOURISHES AND HE CHERISHES IT EVEN AS ALSO [DOES] <THE> CHRIST THE CHURCH, 29Indeed, no one ever hated his own body, but he nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.
30FOR MEMBERS WE ARE OF THE BODY OF HIM FROM THE FLESH OF HIM AND FROM THE OF BONES OF HIM. 30For we are members of His body.*NoteCloseBYZ and TR include —of His flesh and of His bones.
31BECAUSE OF THIS WILL LEAVE A MAN THE FATHER OF HIM AND <THE> MOTHER AND WILL BE JOINED TO THE WIFE OF HIM, AND WILL BE THE TWO INTO FLESH ONE. 31“For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”*NoteCloseGenesis 2:24 (see also LXX)
32<THE> MYSTERY THIS GREAT IS, I MYSELF HOWEVER SPEAK AS TO CHRIST AND AS TO THE CHURCH. 32This mystery is profound, but I am speaking about Christ and the church.
33HOWEVER ALSO YOU <THE> ACCORDING TO INDIVIDUAL, EACH THE HIS OWN WIFE SO SHOULD LOVE AS HIMSELF, <THE> AND THE WIFE THAT SHE MAY RESPECT THE HUSBAND. 33Nevertheless, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
