26AND HE DIED JOSEPH A SON OF ONE HUNDRED AND TEN YEARS AND PEOPLE EMBALMED <OBJ.> HIM AND HE WAS PUT IN THE COFFIN IN EGYPT 26So Joseph died at the age of 110. And they embalmed his body and placed it in a coffin in Egypt.
1AND THESE [ARE] [THE] NAMES OF [THE] SONS OF ISRAEL WHO WENT EGYPT TOWARDS WITH JACOB EVERYONE AND HOUSEHOLD HIS THEY WENT The Israelites Multiply in Egypt (Genesis 46:7–27) 1These are the names of the sons of Israel who went to Egypt with Jacob, each with his family:
5AND IT WAS EVERY PERSON [WHO] CAME OUT OF [THE] THIGH OF JACOB SEVENTY PERSON[S] AND JOSEPH HE WAS IN EGYPT 5The descendants of Jacob numbered seventy*NoteCloseMT (see also Genesis 46:27); DSS and LXX (see also Acts 7:14) seventy-five in all, including Joseph, who was already in Egypt.
6AND HE DIED JOSEPH AND ALL BROTHERS HIS AND ALL THE GENERATION <THE> THAT 6Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died,
7AND [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL THEY WERE FRUITFUL AND THEY SWARMED AND THEY MULTIPLIED AND THEY BECAME MIGHTY WITH MUCHNESS MUCHNESS AND IT WAS FILLED THE LAND WITH THEM 7but the Israelites were fruitful and increased rapidly; they multiplied and became exceedingly numerous, so that the land was filled with them.
8AND HE AROSE A KING NEW OVER EGYPT WHO NOT HE KNEW <OBJ.> JOSEPH Oppression by a New King (Acts 7:15–19) 8Then a new king, who did not know Joseph, came to power in Egypt.
9AND HE SAID TO PEOPLE HIS HERE! [THE] PEOPLE OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL [IS] NUMEROUS AND MIGHTY MORE THAN US 9“Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become too numerous and too powerful for us.
10GIVE! LET US DEAL WISELY TO <THE> IT LEST IT SHOULD INCREASE AND IT WILL BE THAT THEY WILL HAPPEN WAR AND IT WILL BE ADDED ALSO IT TO [THOSE WHO] HATE US AND IT WILL FIGHT AGAINST <THE> US AND IT WILL GO UP FROM THE LAND 10Come, let us deal shrewdly with them, or they will increase even more; and if a war breaks out, they may join our enemies, fight against us, and leave the country.*NoteCloseOr and take the country ”
11AND THEY APPOINTED OVER IT OVERSEERS OF SLAVE GANGS SO AS TO AFFLICT IT WITH FORCED LABOR THEIR AND IT BUILT CITIES OF STORAGE FOR PHARAOH <OBJ.> PITHOM AND <OBJ.> RAMESES 11So the Egyptians appointed taskmasters over the Israelites to oppress them with forced labor. As a result, they built Pithom and Rameses as store cities for Pharaoh.
12AND JUST AS PEOPLE AFFLICTED <OBJ.> IT SO IT INCREASED AND SO IT SPREAD AND PEOPLE FELT DREAD <FROM> BECAUSE OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 12But the more they were oppressed, the more they multiplied and flourished; so the Egyptians came to dread the Israelites.
13AND THEY COMPELLED TO LABOR EGYPT <OBJ.> [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL WITH HARSHNESS 13They worked the Israelites ruthlessly
14AND THEY MADE BITTER <OBJ.> LIVES THEIR WITH LABOR HARD IN MORTAR AND IN BRICKS AND IN ALL LABOR IN THE FIELD <OBJ.> ALL LABOR THEIR WHICH THEY LABORED BY <THE> THEM WITH HARSHNESS 14and made their lives bitter with hard labor in brick and mortar, and with all kinds of work in the fields. Every service they imposed was harsh.
15AND HE SAID [THE] KING OF EGYPT TO THE MIDWIVES <THE> HEBREW WHO [THE] NAME OF THE ONE [WAS] SHIPHRAH AND [THE] NAME OF THE SECOND [WAS] PUAH 15Then the king of Egypt said to the Hebrew midwives, whose names were Shiphrah and Puah,
16AND HE SAID WHEN ASSIST AS MIDWIFE YOU <OBJ.> THE HEBREW [WOMEN] AND YOU WILL LOOK AT THE STONES IF [IS] A SON HE AND YOU WILL KILL <OBJ.> HIM AND IF [IS] A DAUGHTER SHE AND SHE WILL LIVE 16“When you help the Hebrew women give birth, observe them on the birthstools. If the child is a son, kill him; but if it is a daughter, let her live.”
17AND THEY FEARED THE MIDWIVES <OBJ.> <THE> GOD AND NOT THEY DID JUST AS HE HAD SPOKEN TO THEM [THE] KING OF EGYPT AND THEY LET LIVE <OBJ.> THE [MALE] CHILDREN 17The midwives, however, feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt had instructed; they let the boys live.
18AND HE SUMMONED [THE] KING OF EGYPT <TO> THE MIDWIVES AND HE SAID TO <THE> THEM WHY? HAVE YOU DONE THE THING <THE> THIS AND HAVE YOU LET LIVE? <OBJ.> THE [MALE] CHILDREN 18So the king of Egypt summoned the midwives and asked them, “Why have you done this? Why have you let the boys live?”
19AND THEY SAID THE MIDWIVES TO PHARAOH FOR NOT [ARE] LIKE THE WOMEN <THE> EGYPTIAN THE HEBREW [WOMEN] THAT [ARE] VIGOROUS THEY <IN> BEFORE SHE COMES TO THEM THE MIDWIFE AND THEY GIVE BIRTH 19The midwives answered Pharaoh, “The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women, for they are vigorous and give birth before a midwife arrives
20AND HE DID GOOD GOD TO THE MIDWIVES AND IT INCREASED THE PEOPLE AND THEY BECAME MIGHTY EXCEEDINGLY 20So God was good to the midwives, and the people multiplied and became even more numerous.
21AND IT WAS THAT THEY FEARED THE MIDWIVES <OBJ.> <THE> GOD AND HE APPOINTED FOR <THE> THEM HOUSEHOLDS 21And because the midwives feared God, He gave them families of their own.
22AND HE COMMANDED PHARAOH TO ALL PEOPLE HIS <TO> SAYING EVERY <THE> SON <THE> BORN THE RIVER TOWARDS YOU WILL THROW HIM AND EVERY <THE> DAUGHTER YOU WILL LET LIVE! 22Then Pharaoh commanded all his people: “Every son born to the Hebrews*NoteCloseSP, LXX, and Targum Yonaton; Hebrew does not include to the Hebrews. you must throw into the Nile, but every daughter you may allow to live.”
