22NOT IT DEPARTED [THE] PILLAR OF <THE> CLOUD BY DAY AND [THE] PILLAR OF <THE> FIRE NIGHT <TO> BEFORE THE PEOPLE 22Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place before the people.
1AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES <TO> SAYING Pharaoh Pursues the Israelites 1Then the LORD said to Moses,
2SPEAK TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL SO THEY MAY TURN BACK AND THEY MAY ENCAMP <TO> BEFORE PI- HAHIROTH BETWEEN MIGDOL AND BETWEEN THE SEA <TO> BEFORE BAAL- ZEPHON OPPOSITE IT YOU WILL ENCAMP AT THE SEA 2“Tell the Israelites to turn back and encamp before Pi-hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea. You are to encamp by the sea, directly opposite Baal-zephon.
3AND HE WILL SAY PHARAOH OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL [ARE] WANDERING IN CONFUSION THEY IN THE LAND IT HAS SHUT ON THEM THE WILDERNESS 3For Pharaoh will say of the Israelites, ‘They are wandering the land in confusion; the wilderness has boxed them in.’
4AND I WILL MAKE STRONG <OBJ.> [THE] HEART OF PHARAOH AND HE WILL PURSUE AFTER THEM AND I WILL GAIN HONOR BY PHARAOH AND BY ALL ARMY HIS AND THEY WILL KNOW EGYPT THAT I [AM] YAHWEH AND THEY DID SO 4And I will harden*NoteCloseOr stiffen or strengthen; similarly in verses 8 and 17 Pharaoh’s heart so that he will pursue them. But I will gain honor by means of Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am the LORD.” So this is what the Israelites did.
5AND IT WAS TOLD TO [THE] KING OF EGYPT THAT IT HAD FLED THE PEOPLE AND IT WAS CHANGED [THE] HEART OF PHARAOH AND SERVANTS HIS TO THE PEOPLE AND THEY SAID WHAT? THIS HAVE WE DONE THAT WE HAVE LET GO <OBJ.> ISRAEL FROM SERVING US 5When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, Pharaoh and his officials changed their minds about them and said, “What have we done? We have released Israel from serving us.”
6AND HE HARNESSED <OBJ.> CHARIOT HIS AND <OBJ.> PEOPLE HIS HE TOOK WITH HIM 6So Pharaoh prepared his chariot and took his army with him.
7AND HE TOOK SIX HUNDRED<S> CHARIOT[S] CHOSEN AND ALL [THE] CHARIOTRY OF EGYPT AND OFFICERS [WERE] OVER ALL OF IT 7He took 600 of the best chariots, and all the other chariots of Egypt, with officers over all of them.
8AND HE MADE STRONG YAHWEH <OBJ.> [THE] HEART OF PHARAOH [THE] KING OF EGYPT AND HE PURSUED AFTER [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL [WERE] GOING OUT WITH A HAND RAISED 8And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt so that he pursued the Israelites who were marching out defiantly.*NoteCloseOr marching out boldly; literally marching out with an upraised hand
9AND THEY PURSUED EGYPT AFTER THEM AND THEY OVERTOOK <OBJ.> THEM ENCAMPED AT THE SEA EVERY <THE> HORSE OF [THE] CHARIOTRY OF PHARAOH AND HORSEMEN HIS AND ARMY HIS AT PI- HAHIROTH <TO> BEFORE BAAL- ZEPHON 9The Egyptians— all Pharaoh’s horses and chariots, horsemen and troops— pursued the Israelites and overtook them as they camped by the sea near Pi-hahiroth, opposite Baal-zephon.
10AND PHARAOH HE DREW NEAR AND THEY LIFTED UP [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <OBJ.> EYES THEIR AND THERE! EGYPT [WAS] MARCHING AFTER THEM AND THEY WERE AFRAID EXCEEDINGLY AND THEY CRIED OUT [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL TO YAHWEH 10As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and saw the Egyptians marching after them, and they were terrified and cried out to the LORD.
11AND THEY SAID TO MOSES ¿ BECAUSE NOT THERE NOT [WERE] GRAVES IN EGYPT YOU BROUGHT US TO DIE IN THE WILDERNESS WHAT? THIS HAVE YOU DONE TO US BY BRINGING OUT US FROM EGYPT 11They said to Moses, “Was it because there were no graves in Egypt that you brought us into the wilderness to die? What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?
12¿ NOT [IS] THIS THE WORD WHICH WE SPOKE TO YOU IN EGYPT <TO> SAYING CEASE FROM US SO LET US SERVE <OBJ.> EGYPT FOR [IS] BETTER FOR US SERVING <OBJ.> EGYPT THAN TO DIE US IN THE WILDERNESS 12Did we not say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone so that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.”
13AND HE SAID MOSES TO THE PEOPLE MAY NOT YOU BE AFRAID STAND FIRM AND SEE <OBJ.> [THE] DELIVERANCE OF YAHWEH WHICH HE WILL BRING ABOUT FOR YOU THIS DAY FOR WHICH YOU HAVE SEEN <OBJ.> EGYPT THIS DAY NOT YOU WILL REPEAT TO SEE THEM AGAIN UNTIL PERPETUITY 13But Moses told the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the LORD’s salvation, which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians you see today you will never see again.
14YAHWEH HE WILL FIGHT FOR YOU AND YOU YOU WILL KEEP QUIET! 14The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
15AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES WHY? ARE YOU CRYING OUT TO ME SPEAK TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL SO THEY MAY SET OUT Parting the Red Sea 15Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the Israelites to go forward.
16AND YOU RAISE <OBJ.> STAFF YOUR AND STRETCH OUT <OBJ.> HAND YOUR OVER THE SEA AND DIVIDE IT SO THEY MAY GO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL IN [THE] MIDDLE OF THE SEA ON THE DRY GROUND 16And as for you, lift up your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.
17AND I HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO MAKE STRONG <OBJ.> [THE] HEART OF EGYPT SO THEY MAY GO AFTER THEM AND I WILL GAIN HONOR BY PHARAOH AND BY ALL ARMY HIS BY CHARIOT[S] HIS AND BY HORSEMEN HIS 17And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that they will go in after them. Then I will gain honor by means of Pharaoh and all his army and chariots and horsemen.
18AND THEY WILL KNOW EGYPT THAT I [AM] YAHWEH WHEN GAIN HONOR I BY PHARAOH BY CHARIOT[S] HIS AND BY HORSEMEN HIS 18The Egyptians will know that I am the LORD when I am honored through Pharaoh, his chariots, and his horsemen.”
19AND HE SET OUT [THE] ANGEL OF <THE> GOD WHO HAD BEEN GOING <TO> BEFORE [THE] CAMP OF ISRAEL AND HE WENT <FROM> BEHIND THEM AND IT SET OUT [THE] PILLAR OF <THE> CLOUD FROM BEFORE THEM AND IT STOOD <FROM> BEHIND THEM 19And the angel*NoteCloseOr Angel of God, who had gone before the camp of Israel, withdrew and went behind them. The pillar of cloud also moved from before them and stood behind them,
20AND IT WENT BETWEEN [THE] CAMP OF EGYPT AND BETWEEN [THE] CAMP OF ISRAEL AND IT WAS THE CLOUD AND THE DARKNESS AND IT LIT UP <OBJ.> THE NIGHT AND NOT IT DREW NEAR THIS TO THIS ALL THE NIGHT 20so that it came between the camps of Egypt and Israel. The cloud was there in the darkness, but it lit up the night.*NoteCloseLXX and the night passed So all night long neither camp went near the other.
21AND HE STRETCHED OUT MOSES <OBJ.> HAND HIS OVER THE SEA AND HE DROVE YAHWEH <OBJ.> THE SEA BY A WIND AN EAST WIND STRONG ALL THE NIGHT AND HE MADE <OBJ.> THE SEA INTO <THE> DRY GROUND AND THEY WERE DIVIDED THE WATERS 21Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove back the sea with a strong east wind that turned it into dry land. So the waters were divided,
22AND THEY WENT [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL IN [THE] MIDDLE OF THE SEA ON THE DRY GROUND AND THE WATER FOR THEM [WAS] A WALL FROM RIGHT THEIR AND FROM LEFT THEIR 22and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and on their left.
23AND THEY PURSUED EGYPT AND THEY WENT AFTER THEM EVERY <THE> HORSE OF PHARAOH CHARIOTRY HIS AND HORSEMEN HIS INTO [THE] MIDDLE OF THE SEA 23And the Egyptians chased after them— all Pharaoh’s horses, chariots, and horsemen— and followed them into the sea.
24AND IT WAS IN [THE] WATCH OF THE MORNING AND HE LOOKED DOWN YAHWEH TO [THE] CAMP OF EGYPT IN A PILLAR OF FIRE AND CLOUD AND HE CONFUSED <OBJ.> [THE] CAMP OF EGYPT 24At morning watch, however, the LORD looked down on the army of the Egyptians from the pillar of fire and cloud, and He threw their camp into confusion..
25AND HE TURNED ASIDE <OBJ.> [THE] WHEEL[S] OF CHARIOTS ITS AND HE CAUSED TO DRIVE IT WITH DIFFICULTY AND IT SAID EGYPT LET ME FLEE FROM BEFORE ISRAEL FOR YAHWEH [IS] FIGHTING FOR THEM AGAINST EGYPT 25He caused their chariot wheels to wobble,*NoteCloseOr to swerve or to come off or to bind; see also SP, LXX, and Syriac. so that they had difficulty driving. “Let us flee from the Israelites,” said the Egyptians, “for the LORD is fighting for them against Egypt!”
26AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES STRETCH OUT <OBJ.> HAND YOUR OVER THE SEA SO THEY MAY RETURN THE WATERS OVER EGYPT OVER CHARIOT[S] ITS AND OVER HORSEMEN ITS 26Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the sea, so that the waters may flow back over the Egyptians and their chariots and horsemen.”
27AND HE STRETCHED OUT MOSES <OBJ.> HAND HIS OVER THE SEA AND IT RETURNED THE SEA TO [THE] TURNING OF MORNING TO NORMAL [STATE] ITS AND EGYPT [WERE] FLEEING TO MEET IT AND HE SHOOK OFF YAHWEH <OBJ.> EGYPT IN [THE] MIDDLE OF THE SEA 27So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and at daybreak the sea returned to its normal state. As the Egyptians were retreating the LORD swept them into the sea.
28AND THEY RETURNED THE WATERS AND THEY COVERED <OBJ.> THE CHARIOT[S] AND <OBJ.> THE HORSEMEN TO ALL [THE] ARMY OF PHARAOH WHICH HAD GONE AFTER THEM IN THE SEA NOT IT REMAINED AMONG THEM UP TO ONE 28The waters flowed back and covered the chariots and horsemen— the entire army of Pharaoh that had chased the Israelites into the sea. Not one of them survived.
29AND [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL THEY WALKED ON THE DRY GROUND IN [THE] MIDDLE OF THE SEA AND THE WATER FOR THEM [WAS] A WALL FROM RIGHT THEIR AND FROM LEFT THEIR 29But the Israelites had walked through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and on their left.
30AND HE DELIVERED YAHWEH ON THE DAY <THE> THAT <OBJ.> ISRAEL FROM [THE] HAND OF EGYPT AND IT SAW ISRAEL <OBJ.> EGYPT DEAD ON [THE] SHORE OF THE SEA 30That day the LORD saved Israel from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the shore.
31AND IT SAW ISRAEL <OBJ.> THE HAND <THE> GREAT WHICH HE HAD USED YAHWEH ON EGYPT AND THEY FEARED THE PEOPLE <OBJ.> YAHWEH AND THEY BELIEVED IN YAHWEH AND IN MOSES SERVANT HIS 31When Israel saw the great power that the LORD had exercised over the Egyptians, the people feared the LORD and believed in Him and in His servant Moses.
