The Bronze Altar
(Exodus 38:1–7 )
1 “You are to build an altar of acacia wood. The altar must be square, five cubits long, five cubits wide, and three cubits high.
2 AND YOU WILL MAKE HORNS ITS ON [THE] FOUR CORNERS ITS FROM IT THEY WILL BE HORNS ITS AND YOU WILL OVERLAY <OBJ.> IT BRONZE
2 Make a horn on each of its four corners, so that the horns are of one piece, and overlay it with bronze.
3 AND YOU WILL MAKE POTS ITS TO TAKE AWAY ASHES ITS AND SHOVELS ITS AND BOWLS ITS AND FORKS ITS AND FIRE-PANS ITS TO ALL ARTICLES ITS YOU WILL MAKE BRONZE
3 Make all its utensils of bronze— its pots for removing ashes, its shovels, its sprinkling bowls, its meat forks, and its firepans.
4 AND YOU WILL MAKE FOR <THE> IT A GRATING A WORK OF A NET OF BRONZE AND YOU WILL MAKE ON THE NET FOUR RINGS OF BRONZE ON FOUR EXTREMITIES ITS
4 Construct for it a grate of bronze mesh, and make a bronze ring at each of the four corners of the mesh.
5 AND YOU WILL PUT <OBJ.> IT UNDER [THE] LEDGE OF THE ALTAR FROM TO DOWNWARDS AND IT WILL BE THE NET TO [THE] MIDDLE OF THE ALTAR
5 Set the grate beneath the ledge of the altar, so that the mesh comes halfway up the altar.
6 AND YOU WILL MAKE POLES FOR THE ALTAR POLES OF WOOD<S> OF ACACIA AND YOU WILL OVERLAY <OBJ.> THEM BRONZE
6 Additionally, make poles of acacia wood for the altar and overlay them with bronze.
7 AND IT WILL BE PUT <OBJ.> POLES ITS IN THE RINGS AND THEY WILL BE THE POLES ON [THE] TWO [THE] SIDES OF THE ALTAR WHEN CARRY <OBJ.> IT
7 The poles are to be inserted into the rings so that the poles are on two sides of the altar when it is carried.
8 HOLLOW OF BOARDS YOU WILL MAKE <OBJ.> IT JUST AS HE SHOWED <OBJ.> YOU ON THE MOUNTAIN SO THEY WILL DO
8 Construct the altar with boards so that it is hollow. It is to be made just as you were shown on the mountain.
9 AND YOU WILL MAKE <OBJ.> [THE] COURTYARD OF THE TABERNACLE FOR [THE] SIDE OF [THE] SOUTH SOUTH -WARD CURTAINS FOR THE COURTYARD FINE LINEN TWISTED [WILL BE] ONE HUNDRED BY THE CUBIT [THE] LENGTH OF THE SIDE <THE> ONE
The Courtyard
(Exodus 38:9–20 )
9 You are also to make a courtyard for the tabernacle. On the south side of the courtyard make curtains of finely spun linen, a hundred cubits long on one side,
10 AND PILLARS ITS TWENTY AND BASES THEIR TWENTY [WILL BE] BRONZE [THE] HOOKS OF THE PILLARS AND BANDS THEIR [WILL BE] SILVER
10 with twenty posts and twenty bronze bases, and silver hooks and bands on the posts.
11 AND THUS FOR [THE] SIDE OF [THE] NORTH IN THE LENGTH CURTAINS [WILL BE] ONE HUNDRED LENGTH AND PILLARS ITS TWENTY AND BASES THEIR TWENTY [WILL BE] BRONZE [THE] HOOKS OF THE PILLARS AND BANDS THEIR [WILL BE] SILVER
11 Likewise there are to be curtains on the north side, a hundred cubits long, with twenty posts and twenty bronze bases, and with silver hooks and bands on the posts.
12 AND [THE] BREADTH OF THE COURTYARD TO [THE] SIDE OF [THE] WEST CURTAINS FIFTY CUBIT[S] PILLARS THEIR TEN AND BASES THEIR TEN
12 The curtains on the west side of the courtyard shall be fifty cubits wide, with ten posts and ten bases.
13 AND [THE] BREADTH OF THE COURTYARD TO [THE] SIDE OF EAST -WARD EAST -WARD [WILL BE] FIFTY CUBIT[S]
13 The east side of the courtyard, toward the sunrise, is to be fifty cubits wide.
14 AND [WILL BE] FIF- TEEN CUBIT[S] CURTAINS FOR THE SIDE PILLARS THEIR THREE AND BASES THEIR THREE
14 Make the curtains on one side fifteen cubits long, with three posts and three bases,
15 AND FOR THE SIDE <THE> SECOND FIF- TEN CURTAINS PILLARS THEIR THREE AND BASES THEIR THREE
15 and the curtains on the other side fifteen cubits long, with three posts and three bases.
16 AND FOR [THE] GATE OF THE COURTYARD A SCREEN TWENTY CUBIT[S] VIOLET STUFF AND PURPLE AND SCARLET STUFF OF SCARLET AND FINE LINEN TWISTED [THE] WORK OF A WORKER IN COLORS PILLARS THEIR FOUR AND BASES THEIR FOUR
16 The gate of the courtyard shall be twenty cubits long, with a curtain embroidered with blue, purple, and scarlet yarn, and finely spun linen. It shall have four posts and four bases.
17 ALL [THE] PILLARS OF THE COURTYARD ALL AROUND [WILL BE] FURNISHED WITH BANDS SILVER HOOKS THEIR [WILL BE] SILVER AND BASES THEIR [WILL BE] BRONZE
17 All the posts around the courtyard shall have silver bands, silver hooks, and bronze bases.
18 [THE] LENGTH OF THE COURTYARD [WILL BE] ONE HUNDRED BY THE CUBIT AND [THE] BREADTH [WILL BE] FIFTY ON FIFTY AND [THE] HEIGHT [WILL BE] FIVE CUBITS FINE LINEN TWISTED AND BASES THEIR [WILL BE] BRONZE
18 The entire courtyard shall be a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide, with curtains of finely spun linen five cubits high, and with bronze bases.
19 TO ALL [THE] ARTICLES OF THE TABERNACLE IN ALL SERVICE ITS AND ALL TENT PEGS ITS AND ALL [THE] TENT PEGS OF THE COURTYARD [WILL BE] BRONZE
19 All the utensils of the tabernacle for every use, including all its tent pegs and the tent pegs of the courtyard, shall be made of bronze.
20 AND YOU YOU WILL COMMAND <OBJ.> [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL SO THEY MAY BRING TO YOU OIL OF OLIVE PURE PRESSED FOR THE LIGHT TO LIFT UP A LAMP CONTINUALLY
The Oil for the Lamps
(Leviticus 24:1–4 )
20 And you are to command the Israelites to bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to keep the lamps burning continually.
21 IN [THE] TENT OF MEETING FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF THE CURTAIN WHICH [IS] ON THE TESTIMONY HE WILL ARRANGE <OBJ.> IT AARON AND SONS HIS FROM EVENING UNTIL MORNING <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH A STATUTE OF PERPETUITY TO GENERATIONS THEIR FROM WITH [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL
21 In the Tent of Meeting, outside the veil that is in front of the Testimony, Aaron and his sons are to tend the lamps before the LORD from evening until morning. This is to be a permanent statute for the Israelites for the generations to come.
