44AND HE SPOKE MOSES <OBJ.> [THE] APPOINTED FEASTS OF YAHWEH TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 44So Moses announced to the Israelites the appointed feasts of the LORD.
1AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES <TO> SAYING The Oil for the Lamps (Exodus 27:20–21) 1Then the LORD said to Moses,
2COMMAND <OBJ.> [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL SO THEY MAY BRING TO YOU OIL OF OLIVE[S] PURE PRESSED FOR THE LIGHT TO LIFT UP A LAMP CONTINUALLY 2“Command the Israelites to bring you pure oil of pressed olives for the light, to keep the lamps burning continually.
3FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF [THE] CURTAIN OF THE TESTIMONY IN [THE] TENT OF MEETING HE WILL ARRANGE <OBJ.> IT AARON FROM EVENING UNTIL MORNING <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH CONTINUALLY A STATUTE OF PERPETUITY TO GENERATIONS YOUR 3Outside the veil of the Testimony*NoteCloseThe Testimony refers to the stone tablets in the ark of the covenant inscribed with the Ten Commandments. in the Tent of Meeting, Aaron is to tend the lamps continually before the LORD from evening until morning. This is to be a permanent statute for the generations to come.
4ON THE LAMPSTAND <THE> PURE HE WILL ARRANGE <OBJ.> THE LAMPS <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH CONTINUALLY 4He shall tend the lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the LORD continually.
5AND YOU WILL TAKE FINE FLOUR AND YOU WILL BAKE <OBJ.> IT TWO [PLUS] TEN ROUND PERFORATED BREADS TWO TENTHS IT WILL BE THE ROUND PERFORATED BREAD <THE> ONE The Showbread (Exodus 25:23–30; Exodus 37:10–16) 5You are also to take fine flour and bake twelve loaves, using two-tenths of an ephah for each loaf,*NoteCloseTwo-tenths of an ephah is approximately 4 dry quarts or 4.4 liters (probably about 5.1 pounds or 2.3 kilograms of flour).
6AND YOU WILL PLACE <OBJ.> THEM TWO ROWS SIX THE ROW ON THE TABLE <THE> PURE <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH 6and set them in two rows— six per row— on the table of pure gold before the LORD.
7AND YOU WILL PUT ON THE ROW FRANKINCENSE PURE AND IT WILL BELONG TO THE BREAD TO A MEMORIAL OFFERING A FIRE OFFERING TO YAHWEH 7And you are to place pure frankincense near each row, so that it may serve as a memorial portion for the bread, a food offering to the LORD.
8ON [THE] DAY OF THE SABBATH ON [THE] DAY OF THE SABBATH HE WILL ARRANGE IT <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH CONTINUALLY FROM WITH [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL A COVENANT OF PERPETUITY 8Every Sabbath day the bread is to be set out before the LORD on behalf of the Israelites as a permanent covenant.
9AND IT WILL BELONG TO AARON AND TO SONS HIS AND THEY WILL EAT IT IN A PLACE HOLY FOR [IS] A HOLY THING OF HOLY THINGS IT FOR <THE> HIM FROM [THE] FIRE OFFERINGS OF YAHWEH A PRESCRIBED PORTION OF PERPETUITY 9It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in a holy place; for it is to him a most holy part of the food offerings to the LORD— his portion forever.”
10AND HE WENT OUT A SON OF A WOMAN ISRAELITE AND HE [WAS] A SON OF A MAN EGYPTIAN IN AMONG [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND THEY STRUGGLED TOGETHER IN THE CAMP [THE] SON OF THE ISRAELITE [WOMAN] AND [THE] MAN OF THE ISRAELITE[S] Punishment for Blasphemy 10Now the son of an Israelite mother and an Egyptian father went out among the Israelites, and a fight broke out in the camp between him and an Israelite.
11AND HE SLANDERED [THE] SON OF THE WOMAN <THE> ISRAELITE <OBJ.> THE NAME AND HE CURSED AND PEOPLE BROUGHT <OBJ.> HIM TO MOSES AND [THE] NAME OF MOTHER HIS [WAS] SHELOMITH [THE] DAUGHTER OF DIBRI OF [THE] TRIBE OF DAN 11The son of the Israelite woman blasphemed the Name with a curse. So they brought him to Moses. (His mother’s name was Shelomith daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan.)
12AND THEY PLACED HIM IN <THE> CUSTODY TO DECIDE FOR <THE> THEMSELVES ON [THE] MOUTH OF YAHWEH 12They placed him in custody until the will of the LORD should be made clear to them.
14BRING OUT <OBJ.> THE [ONE WHO] CURSED TO FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP AND THEY WILL LEAN ALL THOSE [WHO] HEARD <OBJ.> HANDS THEIR ON HEAD HIS AND THEY WILL STONE <OBJ.> HIM ALL THE CONGREGATION 14“Take the blasphemer*NoteCloseLiterally the one who cursed; also in verse 23 outside the camp, and have all who heard him lay their hands on his head; then have the whole assembly stone him.
15AND TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL YOU WILL SPEAK <TO> SAYING A PERSON A PERSON IF HE WILL CURSE GOD HIS AND HE WILL BEAR SIN HIS 15And you are to tell the Israelites, ‘If anyone curses his God, he shall bear the consequences of his sin.
16AND [ONE WHO] SLANDERS [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH CERTAINLY <TO DIE> HE WILL BE PUT TO DEATH CERTAINLY <TO STONE> THEY WILL STONE <IN> <THE> HIM ALL THE CONGREGATION AS THE SOJOURNER AS THE NATIVE-BORN WHEN SLANDERS HE [THE] NAME HE WILL BE PUT TO DEATH 16Whoever blasphemes the name of the LORD must surely be put to death; the whole assembly must surely stone him, whether he is a foreign resident or native; if he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death.
17AND ANYONE IF HE WILL STRIKE DOWN ANY LIFE OF HUMANKIND CERTAINLY <TO DIE> HE WILL BE PUT TO DEATH An Eye for an Eye (Matthew 5:38–48) 17And if a man takes the life of anyone else, he must surely be put to death.
18AND [ONE WHO] STRIKES DOWN [THE] LIFE OF AN ANIMAL HE WILL REPAY IT A LIFE FOR A LIFE 18Whoever kills an animal must make restitution— life for life.
19AND ANYONE IF HE WILL MAKE A BLEMISH ON FELLOW CITIZEN HIS JUST AS HE HAS DONE SO IT WILL BE DONE TO <THE> HIM 19If anyone injures his neighbor, whatever he has done must be done to him:
20A FRACTURE FOR A FRACTURE AN EYE FOR AN EYE A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH JUST AS HE WILL MAKE A BLEMISH ON <THE> PERSON SO IT WILL BE MADE ON <THE> HIM 20fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth.*NoteCloseCited in Matthew 5:38 Just as he injured the other person, the same must be inflicted on him.
21AND [ONE WHO] STRIKES DOWN AN ANIMAL HE WILL REPAY IT AND [ONE WHO] STRIKES DOWN A PERSON HE WILL BE PUT TO DEATH 21Whoever kills an animal must make restitution, but whoever kills a man must be put to death.
22JUDGMENT <OF> ONE IT WILL BELONG TO <THE> YOU AS THE SOJOURNER AS THE NATIVE-BORN IT WILL BE FOR I [AM] YAHWEH GOD YOUR 22You are to have the same standard of law for the foreign resident and the native; for I am the LORD your God.’”
23AND HE SPOKE MOSES TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND THEY BROUGHT OUT <OBJ.> THE [ONE WHO] HAD CURSED TO FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP AND THEY STONED <OBJ.> HIM STONE[S] AND [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL THEY DID JUST AS HE HAD COMMANDED YAHWEH <OBJ.> MOSES 23Then Moses spoke to the Israelites, and they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him. So the Israelites did as the LORD had commanded Moses.
