31AND IT BELIEVED THE PEOPLE AND THEY HEARD THAT HE HAD OBSERVED YAHWEH <OBJ.> [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND THAT HE HAD SEEN <OBJ.> AFFLICTION THEIR AND THEY BOWED LOW AND THEY BOWED DOWN 31and they believed. And when they heard that the LORD had attended to the Israelites and had seen their affliction, they bowed down and worshiped.
1AND AFTER THEY WENT MOSES AND AARON AND THEY SAID TO PHARAOH THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL LET GO <OBJ.> PEOPLE MY SO THEY MAY CELEBRATE A FESTIVAL TO <THE> ME IN THE WILDERNESS Pharaoh’s First Refusal 1After that, Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said, “This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Let My people go, so that they may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.’”
2AND HE SAID PHARAOH WHO? [IS] YAHWEH THAT I WILL LISTEN TO VOICE HIS BY LETTING GO <OBJ.> ISRAEL NOT I KNOW <OBJ.> YAHWEH AND ALSO <OBJ.> ISRAEL NOT I WILL LET GO 2But Pharaoh replied, “Who is the LORD that I should obey His voice and let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, and I will not let Israel go.”
3AND THEY SAID [THE] GOD OF THE HEBREWS HE HAS MET WITH US LET US GO PLEASE A JOURNEY OF THREE DAYS IN THE WILDERNESS AND LET US SACRIFICE TO YAHWEH GOD OUR LEST HE SHOULD FALL ON US WITH <THE> PESTILENCE OR WITH THE SWORD 3“The God of the Hebrews has met with us,” they answered. “Please let us go on a three-day journey into the wilderness to sacrifice to the LORD our God, or He may strike us with plagues or with the sword.”
4AND HE SAID TO THEM [THE] KING OF EGYPT <TO> WHY? O MOSES AND AARON ARE YOU CAUSING TO REFRAIN <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE FROM WORK<S> ITS GO TO FORCED LABOR YOUR 4But the king of Egypt said to them, “Moses and Aaron, why do you draw the people away from their work? Get back to your labor!”
5AND HE SAID PHARAOH HERE! [IS] MANY NOW [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND AND YOU HAVE CAUSED TO CEASE <OBJ.> THEM FROM FORCED LABOR THEIR 5Pharaoh also said, “Look, the people of the land are now numerous, and you would be stopping them from their labor.”
6AND HE COMMANDED PHARAOH ON THE DAY <THE> THAT <OBJ.> THE TASKMASTERS OVER THE PEOPLE AND <OBJ.> FOREMEN ITS <TO> SAYING Bricks and Straw 6That same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their foremen:
7NOT YOU WILL REPEAT! TO GIVE STRAW TO THE PEOPLE TO MAKE BRICKS THE BRICKS AS YESTERDAY THREE DAYS AGO THEY LET THEM GO AND THEY MAY GATHER FOR <THE> THEMSELVES STRAW 7“You shall no longer supply the people with straw for making bricks. They must go and gather their own straw.
8AND <OBJ.> [THE] MEASUREMENT OF THE BRICKS WHICH THEY [WERE] MAKING YESTERDAY THREE DAYS AGO YOU WILL PLACE ON THEM NOT YOU WILL DIMINISH FROM IT FOR [ARE] IDLE THEY THERE- -FORE THEY [ARE] CRYING OUT <TO> SAYING LET US GO LET US SACRIFICE TO GOD OUR 8But require of them the same quota of bricks as before; do not reduce it. For they are lazy; that is why they are crying out, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to our God.’
9LET IT BE HEAVY THE LABOR ON THE MEN SO THEY MAY WORK IN <THE> IT AND MAY NOT THEM PAY ATTENTION TO WORDS OF FALSEHOOD 9Make the work harder on the men so they will be occupied and pay no attention to these lies
10AND THEY WENT OUT [THE] TASKMASTERS OF THE PEOPLE AND FOREMEN ITS AND THEY SAID TO THE PEOPLE <TO> SAYING THUS HE SAYS PHARAOH NOT I [AM] GIVING TO <THE> YOU STRAW 10So the taskmasters and foremen of the people went out and said to them, “This is what Pharaoh says: ‘I am no longer giving you straw.
11YOU GO ACQUIRE FOR <THE> YOURSELVES STRAW FROM WHERE YOU WILL FIND [IT] FOR NOT [IS] DIMINISHED FROM LABOR YOUR ANYTHING 11Go and get your own straw wherever you can find it; but your workload will in no way be reduced.’”
12AND IT SCATTERED THE PEOPLE IN ALL [THE] LAND OF EGYPT TO GATHER STUBBLE FOR THE STRAW 12So the people scattered all over the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.
13AND THE TASKMASTERS [WERE] PRESSING [THEM] <TO> SAYING COMPLETE WORK<S> YOUR A MATTER OF A DAY IN DAY ITS JUST AS WHEN WAS THE STRAW 13The taskmasters kept pressing them, saying, “Fulfill your quota each day, just as you did when straw was provided.”
14AND THEY WERE STRUCK [THE] FOREMEN OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL WHOM THEY HAD APPOINTED OVER THEM [THE] TASKMASTERS OF PHARAOH <TO> SAYING WHY? NOT HAVE YOU COMPLETED PRESCRIBED PORTION YOUR BY MAKING BRICKS AS YESTERDAY THREE DAYS AGO NEITHER YESTERDAY NOR THIS DAY 14Then the Israelite foremen, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over the people, were beaten and asked, “Why have you not fulfilled your quota of bricks yesterday or today, as you did before
15AND THEY WENT [THE] FOREMEN OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND THEY CRIED OUT TO PHARAOH <TO> SAYING <TO> WHY? ARE YOU DOING THUS TO SERVANTS YOUR The Cry of the Israelites 15So the Israelite foremen went and appealed to Pharaoh: “Why are you treating your servants this way?
16STRAW NOT [IS BEING] GIVEN TO SERVANTS YOUR AND BRICKS [PEOPLE ARE] SAYING TO <THE> US MAKE AND THERE! SERVANTS YOUR [ARE] BEING STRUCK AND YOU HAVE SINNED PEOPLE YOUR 16No straw has been given to your servants, yet we are told, ‘Make bricks!’ Look, your servants are being beaten, but the fault is with your own people.”
17AND HE SAID [ARE] IDLE YOU IDLE THERE- -FORE YOU [ARE] SAYING LET US GO LET US SACRIFICE TO YAHWEH 17“You are slackers!” Pharaoh replied. “Slackers! That is why you keep saying, ‘Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.’
18AND NOW GO WORK AND STRAW NOT IT WILL BE GIVEN TO <THE> YOU AND [THE] MEASUREMENT OF BRICKS YOU WILL GIVE 18Now get to work. You will be given no straw, yet you must deliver the full quota of bricks.”
19AND THEY SAW [THE] FOREMEN OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <OBJ.> THEMSELVES IN TROUBLE <TO> SAYING NOT YOU WILL DIMINISH FROM BRICKS YOUR A MATTER OF A DAY IN DAY ITS 19The Israelite foremen realized they were in trouble when they were told, “You must not reduce your daily quota of bricks.”
20AND THEY MET <OBJ.> MOSES AND <OBJ.> AARON STANDING TO MEET THEM WHEN CAME OUT THEY FROM WITH PHARAOH 20When they left Pharaoh, they confronted Moses and Aaron, who stood waiting to meet them.
21AND THEY SAID TO THEM MAY HE LOOK YAHWEH ON YOU AND MAY HE JUDGE THAT YOU HAVE MADE STINK <OBJ.> ODOR OUR IN [THE] EYES OF PHARAOH AND IN [THE] EYES OF SERVANTS HIS TO PUT A SWORD IN HAND THEIR TO KILL US 21“May the LORD look upon you and judge you,” the foremen said, “for you have made us a stench before Pharaoh and his officials; you have placed in their hand a sword to kill us!”
22AND HE RETURNED MOSES TO YAHWEH AND HE SAID O LORD <TO> WHY? HAVE YOU DONE HARM TO THE PEOPLE <THE> THIS <TO> WHY? THIS DID YOU SEND ME 22So Moses returned to the LORD and asked, “Lord, why have You brought trouble upon this people? Is this why You sent me?
23AND FROM THEN I WENT TO PHARAOH TO SPEAK IN NAME YOUR HE HAS DONE HARM TO THE PEOPLE <THE> THIS AND CERTAINLY <TO DELIVER> NOT YOU HAVE DELIVERED <OBJ.> PEOPLE YOUR 23Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has brought trouble on this people, and You have not delivered Your people in any way.”
