25AND I SPOKE TO THE EXILE[S] <OBJ.> ALL [THE] WORDS OF YAHWEH WHICH HE HAD SHOWN ME 25I told the exiles everything the LORD had shown me.
1AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING Signs of the Coming Captivity 1Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2O SON OF HUMANKIND IN [THE] MIDST OF [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> REBELLION YOU [ARE] DWELLING WHOM EYES [BELONG] TO THEM TO SEE AND NOT THEY SEE EARS [BELONG] TO THEM TO HEAR AND NOT THEY HEAR FOR [ARE] A HOUSE OF REBELLION THEY 2“Son of man, you are living in a rebellious house. They have eyes to see but do not see, and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious house.
3AND YOU O SON OF HUMANKIND PREPARE FOR YOURSELF BAGGAGE<S> OF EXILE AND GO INTO EXILE BY DAY TO EYES THEIR AND YOU WILL GO INTO EXILE FROM PLACE YOUR TO A PLACE ANOTHER TO EYES THEIR PERHAPS THEY WILL SEE FOR [ARE] A HOUSE OF REBELLION THEY 3Therefore, son of man, pack your bags for exile. In broad daylight, set out from your place and go to another as they watch. Perhaps they will understand, though they are a rebellious house.
4AND YOU WILL BRING OUT BAGGAGE<S> YOUR LIKE BAGGAGE<S> OF EXILE BY DAY TO EYES THEIR AND YOU YOU WILL GO OUT IN THE EVENING TO EYES THEIR LIKE GOINGS OUT OF EXILE 4Bring out your baggage for exile by day, as they watch. Then in the evening, as they watch, go out like those who go into exile.
5TO EYES THEIR DIG <FOR> YOURSELF IN THE WALL AND YOU WILL BRING OUT IN IT 5As they watch, dig through the wall and carry your belongings out through it.
6TO EYES THEIR ON A SHOULDER YOU WILL LIFT [IT] UP IN THE DARKNESS YOU WILL BRING [IT] OUT FACE YOUR YOU WILL COVER AND NOT YOU WILL SEE <OBJ.> THE LAND FOR A SIGN I HAVE MADE YOU TO [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL 6And as they watch, lift your bags to your shoulder and take them out at dusk; cover your face so that you cannot see the land. For I have made you a sign to the house of Israel.”
7AND I DID SO JUST AS I WAS COMMANDED BAGGAGE<S> MY I BROUGHT OUT LIKE BAGGAGE<S> OF EXILE BY DAY AND IN THE EVENING I DUG <FOR> MYSELF IN THE WALL BY HAND IN THE DARKNESS I BROUGHT [IT] OUT ON A SHOULDER I LIFTED [IT] UP TO EYES THEIR 7So I did as I was commanded. I brought out my bags for exile by day, and in the evening I dug through the wall by hand. I took my belongings out at dusk, carrying them on my shoulder as they watched.
8AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME IN THE MORNING <TO> SAYING 8And in the morning the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
9O SON OF HUMANKIND ¿ NOT HAVE THEY SAID TO YOU [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> REBELLION WHAT? [ARE] YOU DOING 9“Son of man, hasn’t the rebellious house of Israel asked you, ‘What are you doing?’
10SAY TO THEM THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH [IS] THE PRINCE THE ORACLE <THE> THIS IN JERUSALEM AND ALL [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL WHO THEY [ARE] IN MIDST OF THEM 10Tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘This burden concerns the prince in Jerusalem and all the house of Israel who are there.’
11SAY I [AM] SIGN YOUR JUST AS I HAVE DONE SO IT WILL BE DONE TO THEM IN <THE> EXILE IN <THE> CAPTIVITY THEY WILL GO 11You are to say, ‘I am a sign to you.’ Just as it happened here,*NoteCloseLiterally ‘I am a sign to you.’ Just as I have done; some translators close the quotation at the end of the verse. so will it be done to them; they will go into exile as captives.
12AND THE PRINCE WHO [IS] IN MIDST OF THEM TO A SHOULDER HE WILL LIFT UP IN THE DARKNESS SO HE MAY GO OUT IN THE WALL THEY WILL DIG TO BRING OUT IN IT FACE HIS HE WILL COVER BECAUSE THAT NOT HE WILL SEE TO THE EYE HE <OBJ.> THE LAND 12And at dusk the prince among them will lift his bags to his shoulder and go out. They will dig through the wall to bring him out He will cover his face so he cannot see the land.
13AND I WILL SPREAD <OBJ.> NET MY OVER HIM AND HE WILL BE CAUGHT IN HUNTING NET MY AND I WILL BRING <OBJ.> HIM BABYLON TOWARDS [THE] LAND OF [THE] CHALDEANS AND <OBJ.> IT NOT HE WILL SEE AND THERE HE WILL DIE 13But I will spread My net over him, and he will be caught in My snare. I will bring him to Babylon, the land of the Chaldeans; yet he will not see it, and there he will die.
14AND ALL [THOSE] WHO [ARE] AROUND HIM HELP HIS AND ALL TROOPS HIS I WILL DISPERSE TO EVERY WIND AND A SWORD I WILL DRAW AFTER THEM 14And I will scatter to every wind all the attendants around him and all his troops, and I will draw a sword to chase after them.
15AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH WHEN SCATTER I <OBJ.> THEM AMONG THE NATIONS AND I WILL DISPERSE <OBJ.> THEM AMONG THE LANDS 15And they will know that I am the LORD, when I disperse them among the nations and scatter them throughout the countries.
16AND I WILL LEAVE OVER SOME OF THEM PEOPLE OF NUMBER FROM [THE] SWORD FROM [THE] FAMINE AND FROM [THE] PESTILENCE SO THAT THEY MAY RECOUNT <OBJ.> ALL ABOMINATIONS THEIR AMONG THE NATIONS WHERE THEY HAVE GONE THERE AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 16But I will spare a few of them from sword and famine and plague, so that in the nations to which they go, they can recount all their abominations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
17AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING 17Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
18O SON OF HUMANKIND FOOD YOUR IN QUAKING YOU WILL EAT AND WATER YOUR IN TREMBLING AND IN ANXIETY YOU WILL DRINK 18“Son of man, eat your bread with trembling, and drink your water with quivering and anxiety.
19AND YOU WILL SAY TO [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH OF [THE] INHABITANTS OF JERUSALEM CONCERNING [THE] LAND OF ISRAEL FOOD THEIR IN ANXIETY THEY WILL EAT AND WATER THEIR IN HORROR THEY WILL DRINK SO THAT IT MAY BE DESOLATE LAND ITS FROM FULLNESS ITS FROM [THE] VIOLENCE OF ALL THE INHABITANTS IN IT 19Then tell the people of the land that this is what the Lord GOD says about those living in Jerusalem and in the land of Israel: ‘They will eat their bread with anxiety and drink their water in dread, for their land will be stripped of everything in it because of the violence of all who dwell in it.
20AND THE CITIES <THE> INHABITED THEY WILL BE WASTE AND THE LAND A DESOLATION IT WILL BECOME AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 20The inhabited cities will be laid waste, and the land will become desolate. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’”
21AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING The Presumptuous Proverb 21Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
22O SON OF HUMANKIND WHAT? [IS] THE PROVERB <THE> THIS TO YOU ON [THE] LAND OF ISRAEL <TO> SAYING THEY ARE LONG THE DAYS AND IT PERISHES EVERY VISION 22“Son of man, what is this proverb that you have in the land of Israel: ‘The days go by, and every vision fails’?
23<TO> THEREFORE SAY TO THEM THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH I WILL MAKE TO CEASE <OBJ.> THE PROVERB <THE> THIS AND NOT PEOPLE WILL USE AS A PROVERB <OBJ.> IT AGAIN IN ISRAEL THAT EXCEPT SPEAK TO THEM THEY HAVE DRAWN NEAR THE DAYS AND [THE] MATTER OF EVERY VISION 23Therefore tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will put an end to this proverb, and in Israel they will no longer recite it.’ But say to them: ‘The days are at hand when every vision will be fulfilled.
24FOR NOT IT WILL BE AGAIN ANY VISION OF WORTHLESSNESS AND DIVINATION OF FLATTERY IN [THE] MIDST OF [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL 24For there will be no more false visions or flattering divinations within the house of Israel,
25FOR I YAHWEH I WILL SPEAK <OBJ.> WHICH I WILL SPEAK A WORD SO IT MAY BE DONE NOT IT WILL BE POSTPONED AGAIN FOR IN DAYS YOUR O HOUSE OF <THE> REBELLION I WILL SPEAK A WORD AND I WILL DO IT [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH 25because I, the LORD, will speak whatever word I speak, and it will be fulfilled without delay. For in your days, O rebellious house, I will speak a message and bring it to pass, declares the Lord GOD.’”
26AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING 26Furthermore, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
27O SON OF HUMANKIND THERE! [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL [ARE] SAYING THE VISION WHICH HE [IS] SEEING [IS] OF DAYS MANY AND OF TIMES DISTANT HE [IS] PROPHESYING 27“Son of man, take note that the house of Israel is saying, ‘The vision that he sees is for many years from now; he prophesies about the distant future.’
28<TO> THEREFORE SAY TO THEM THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH NOT IT WILL BE POSTPONED AGAIN ALL WORDS MY [THAT] WHICH I WILL SPEAK A WORD SO IT MAY BE DONE [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH 28Therefore tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘None of My words will be delayed any longer. The message I speak will be fulfilled, declares the Lord GOD.’”
