15ACCORDING TO REJOICING YOUR TO [THE] INHERITANCE OF [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL ON THAT IT HAD BEEN DESOLATED SO I WILL DO TO YOU A DESOLATION YOU WILL BE O MOUNTAIN OF SEIR AND ALL EDOM ALL OF IT AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 15As you rejoiced when the inheritance of the house of Israel became desolate, so will I do to you. You will become a desolation, O Mount Seir, and so will all of Edom. Then they will know that I am the LORD. [’’]
1AND YOU O SON OF HUMANKIND PROPHESY TO [THE] MOUNTAINS OF ISRAEL AND YOU WILL SAY O MOUNTAINS OF ISRAEL HEAR [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH A Prophecy to the Mountains of Israel 1“And you, son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say: O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the LORD.
2THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH BECAUSE HE HAS SAID THE ENEMY ON YOU AHA! AND [THE] HIGH PLACES OF ANTIQUITY <INTO> A POSSESSION IT HAS BECOME OF US 2This is what the Lord GOD says: Because the enemy has said of you, ‘Aha! The ancient heights have become our possession,’
3<TO> THEREFORE PROPHESY AND YOU WILL SAY THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH BECAUSE BY CAUSE TO DESOLATE AND TO CRUSH <OBJ.> YOU FROM ROUND ABOUT TO BE YOU A POSSESSION OF [THE] REST OF THE NATIONS AND YOU HAVE BEEN TAKEN UP ON A LIP OF A TONGUE AND [THE] WHISPERING OF [THE] PEOPLE 3therefore prophesy and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Because they have made you desolate and have trampled you on every side, so that you became a possession of the rest of the nations and were taken up in slander by the lips of their talkers,
4<TO> THEREFORE O MOUNTAINS OF ISRAEL HEAR [THE] WORD OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH TO THE MOUNTAINS AND TO THE HILLS TO THE RAVINES AND TO THE VALLEYS AND TO THE WASTE PLACES <THE> DESOLATE AND TO THE CITIES <THE> FORSAKEN WHICH THEY HAVE BECOME <INTO> SPOIL AND <INTO> MOCKERY TO [THE] REST OF THE NATIONS WHICH [ARE] FROM ROUND ABOUT 4therefore, O mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord GOD. This is what the Lord GOD says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys, to the desolate ruins and abandoned cities, which have become a spoil and a mockery to the rest of the nations around you.
5<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH IF NOT IN [THE] FIRE OF JEALOUSY MY I HAVE SPOKEN ON [THE] REST OF THE NATIONS AND ON EDOM ALL OF IT WHICH THEY MADE <OBJ.> LAND MY FOR THEMSELVES INTO A POSSESSION WITH JOY OF EVERY HEART WITH SCORN OF SELF SO THAT PASTURELAND ITS [BECOMES] <INTO> SPOIL 5Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Surely in My burning zeal I have spoken against the rest of the nations, and against all Edom, who took My land as their own possession with wholehearted joy and utter contempt, so that its pastureland became plunder.
6<TO> THEREFORE PROPHESY ON [THE] LAND OF ISRAEL AND YOU WILL SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS AND TO THE HILLS TO THE RAVINES AND TO THE VALLEYS THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH HERE I IN JEALOUSY MY AND IN RAGE MY I HAVE SPOKEN BECAUSE [THE] INSULT[S] OF NATIONS YOU HAVE BORNE 6Therefore, prophesy concerning the land of Israel and tell the mountains and hills, the ravines and valleys, that this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I have spoken in My burning zeal because you have endured the reproach of the nations.
7<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH I I LIFT UP <OBJ.> HAND MY IF NOT THE NATIONS WHICH TO YOU [ARE] FROM ROUND ABOUT THEY INSULT[S] THEIR THEY WILL BEAR 7Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: I have sworn with an uplifted hand that surely the nations around you will endure reproach of their own.
8AND YOU O MOUNTAINS OF ISRAEL BRANCH[ES] YOUR YOU WILL EXTEND AND FRUIT YOUR YOU WILL BEAR FOR PEOPLE MY ISRAEL FOR THEY HAVE BROUGHT NEAR TO COME 8But you, O mountains of Israel, will produce branches and bear fruit for My people Israel, for they will soon come home.
9FOR HERE I [AM] WITH YOU AND I WILL TURN TO YOU AND YOU WILL BE TILLED AND YOU WILL BE SOWN 9For behold, I am on your side; I will turn toward you, and you will be tilled and sown.
10AND I WILL MULTIPLY ON YOU HUMAN[S] ALL [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL ALL OF IT AND THEY WILL BE INHABITED THE CITIES AND THE WASTE PLACES THEY WILL BE REBUILT 10I will multiply the people upon you the house of Israel in its entirety. The cities will be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt.
11AND I WILL MULTIPLY ON YOU HUMAN[S] AND ANIMAL[S] AND THEY WILL INCREASE AND THEY WILL BE FRUITFUL AND I WILL CAUSE TO DWELL <OBJ.> YOU LIKE FORMER STATE YOUR AND I WILL DO GOOD MORE THAN BEGINNINGS YOUR AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 11I will fill you with people and animals, and they will multiply and be fruitful. I will make you as inhabited as you once were, and I will make you prosper more than before. Then you will know that I am the LORD.
12AND I WILL CAUSE TO WALK ON YOU HUMAN[S] <OBJ.> PEOPLE MY ISRAEL AND THEY WILL DISPOSSESS YOU AND YOU WILL BECOME OF THEM <INTO> AN INHERITANCE AND NOT YOU WILL REPEAT AGAIN TO BEREAVE THEM 12Yes, I will cause My people Israel to walk upon you; they will possess you, and you will be their inheritance, and you will no longer deprive them of their children.
13THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH BECAUSE [PEOPLE ARE] SAYING TO YOU [ARE] DEVOURING HUMAN[S] YOU AND BEREAVING NATIONS YOUR YOU HAVE BEEN 13For this is what the Lord GOD says: Because people say to you, ‘You devour men and deprive your nation of its children,’
14<TO> THEREFORE HUMAN[S] NOT YOU WILL DEVOUR AGAIN AND NATIONS YOUR NOT YOU WILL BEREAVE AGAIN [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH 14therefore you will no longer devour men or deprive your nation of its children, declares the Lord GOD.
15AND NOT I WILL MAKE HEARD TO YOU AGAIN [THE] INSULT[S] OF THE NATIONS AND [THE] REPROACH OF PEOPLES NOT YOU WILL BEAR AGAIN AND NATIONS YOUR NOT YOU WILL CAUSE TO STUMBLE AGAIN [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH 15I will no longer allow the taunts of the nations to be heard against you, and you will no longer endure the reproach of the peoples or cause your nation to stumble, declares the Lord GOD.”
16AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING A New Heart and a New Spirit (Romans 8:9–11; Galatians 5:16–26) 16Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
17O SON OF HUMANKIND [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL [WERE] DWELLING ON OWN LAND THEIR AND THEY MADE UNCLEAN <OBJ.> IT BY CONDUCT THEIR AND BY PRACTICES THEIR LIKE [THE] UNCLEANNESS OF <THE> MENSTRUATION IT WAS CONDUCT THEIR <TO> BEFORE ME 17“Son of man, when the people of Israel lived in their land, they defiled it by their own ways and deeds. Their behavior before Me was like the uncleanness of a woman’s impurity.
18AND I POURED OUT RAGE MY ON THEM ON THE BLOOD WHICH THEY HAD POURED OUT ON THE LAND AND BY IDOLS THEIR THEY MADE UNCLEAN IT 18So I poured out My wrath upon them because of the blood they had shed on the land, and because they had defiled it with their idols.
19AND I SCATTERED <OBJ.> THEM AMONG THE NATIONS AND THEY WERE DISPERSED AMONG THE LANDS ACCORDING TO CONDUCT THEIR AND ACCORDING TO PRACTICES THEIR I JUDGED THEM 19I dispersed them among the nations, and they were scattered throughout the lands. I judged them according to their ways and deeds.
20AND IT CAME TO THE NATIONS WHERE THEY WENT THERE AND THEY PROFANED <OBJ.> [THE] NAME OF HOLINESS MY WHEN SAID OF THEM [ARE] [THE] PEOPLE OF YAHWEH THESE AND FROM LAND HIS THEY HAVE COME OUT 20And wherever they went among the nations, they profaned My holy name, because it was said of them, ‘These are the people of the LORD, yet they had to leave His land.’
21AND I SHOWED PITY ON [THE] NAME OF HOLINESS MY WHICH THEY HAD PROFANED IT [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL AMONG THE NATIONS WHERE THEY HAD GONE THERE TOWARDS 21But I had concern for My holy name, which the house of Israel had profaned among the nations to which they had gone.
22<TO> THEREFORE SAY TO [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH NOT FOR SAKE YOUR I [AM] ABOUT TO ACT O HOUSE OF ISRAEL THAT EXCEPT FOR [THE] NAME OF HOLINESS MY WHICH YOU HAVE PROFANED AMONG THE NATIONS WHERE YOU HAVE GONE THERE 22Therefore tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: It is not for your sake that I will act, O house of Israel, but for My holy name, which you profaned among the nations to which you went.
23AND I WILL SHOW HOLY <OBJ.> NAME MY <THE> GREAT THAT HAS BEEN] PROFANED AMONG THE NATIONS WHICH YOU HAVE PROFANED IN MIDST OF THEM AND THEY WILL KNOW THE NATIONS THAT I [AM] YAHWEH [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH WHEN I SHOW HOLY MYSELF BY YOU TO EYES THEIR 23I will show the holiness of My great name, which has been profaned among the nations— the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Lord GOD, when I show My holiness in you before their eyes.
24AND I WILL TAKE <OBJ.> YOU FROM THE NATIONS AND I WILL GATHER <OBJ.> YOU FROM ALL THE LANDS AND I WILL BRING <OBJ.> YOU INTO OWN LAND YOUR 24For I will take you from among the nations and gather you out of all the countries, and I will bring you back into your own land.
25AND I WILL SPRINKLE ON YOU WATER PURE AND YOU WILL BE PURE FROM ALL UNCLEANNESS<ES> YOUR AND FROM ALL IDOLS YOUR I WILL PURIFY <OBJ.> YOU 25I will also sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean. I will cleanse you from all your impurities and all your idols.
26AND I WILL GIVE TO YOU A HEART NEW AND A SPIRIT NEW I WILL PUT IN INNER BEING YOUR AND I WILL REMOVE <OBJ.> [THE] HEART OF <THE> STONE FROM FLESH YOUR AND I WILL GIVE TO YOU A HEART OF FLESH 26I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; I will remove your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
27AND <OBJ.> SPIRIT MY I WILL PUT IN INNER BEING YOUR AND I WILL BRING ABOUT <OBJ.> THIS: IN STATUTES MY YOU WILL WALK AND JUDGMENTS MY YOU WILL KEEP AND YOU WILL DO [THEM] 27And I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes and to carefully observe My ordinances.
28AND YOU WILL DWELL IN THE LAND WHICH I GAVE TO ANCESTORS YOUR AND YOU WILL BECOME FOR ME <INTO> A PEOPLE AND I I WILL BECOME FOR YOU <INTO> GOD 28Then you will live in the land that I gave your forefathers; you will be My people, and I will be your God.
29AND I WILL SAVE <OBJ.> YOU FROM ALL UNCLEANNESS<ES> YOUR AND I WILL SUMMON <TO> THE GRAIN AND I WILL INCREASE <OBJ.> IT AND NOT I WILL GIVE TO YOU FAMINE 29I will save you from all your uncleanness. I will summon the grain and make it plentiful, and I will not bring famine upon you.
30AND I WILL INCREASE <OBJ.> [THE] FRUIT OF THE TREE AND [THE] PRODUCE OF THE FIELD SO THAT THAT NOT YOU MAY RECEIVE AGAIN [THE] REPROACH OF FAMINE AMONG THE NATIONS 30I will also make the fruit of the trees and the crops of the field plentiful, so that you will no longer bear reproach among the nations on account of famine.
31AND YOU WILL REMEMBER <OBJ.> WAYS YOUR <THE> EVIL AND DEEDS YOUR WHICH NOT [WERE] GOOD AND YOU WILL LOATHE <IN> FACES YOUR ON INIQUITIES YOUR AND ON ABOMINATIONS YOUR 31Then you will remember your evil ways and wicked deeds and you will loathe yourselves for your iniquities and abominations.
32NOT FOR SAKE YOUR I [AM] ABOUT TO ACT [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH LET IT BE KNOWN TO YOU BE ASHAMED AND BE HUMILIATED FROM WAYS YOUR O HOUSE OF ISRAEL 32It is not for your sake that I will act, declares the Lord GOD— let it be known to you. Be ashamed and disgraced for your ways, O house of Israel!
33THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH ON [THE] DAY CLEANSE I <OBJ.> YOU FROM ALL INIQUITIES YOUR AND I WILL CAUSE TO BE INHABITED <OBJ.> THE CITIES AND THEY WILL BE REBUILT THE WASTE PLACES 33This is what the Lord GOD says: On the day I cleanse you from all your iniquities, I will cause the cities to be resettled and the ruins to be rebuilt.
34AND THE LAND <THE> DESOLATED IT WILL BE TILLED IN PLACE OF THAT IT WAS A DESOLATION TO [THE] EYES OF EVERY [ONE WHO] PASSES BY 34The desolate land will be cultivated instead of lying desolate in the sight of all who pass through.
35AND PEOPLE WILL SAY THE LAND THIS <THE> DESOLATED IT HAS BECOME LIKE [THE] GARDEN OF EDEN AND THE CITIES <THE> WASTED AND <THE> DESOLATED AND <THE> BROKEN DOWN [ARE] FORTIFIED THEY HAVE REMAINED 35Then they will say, ‘This land that was desolate has become like the garden of Eden. The cities that were once ruined, desolate, and destroyed are now fortified and inhabited.’
36AND THEY WILL KNOW THE NATIONS WHICH THEY WILL BE LEFT AROUND YOU THAT I YAHWEH I HAVE REBUILT THE BROKEN DOWN [CITIES] I HAVE PLANTED THE DESOLATED [PLACES] I YAHWEH I HAVE SPOKEN AND I WILL ACT 36Then the nations around you that remain will know that I, the LORD, have rebuilt what was destroyed, and I have replanted what was desolate. I, the LORD, have spoken, and I will do it.
37THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH AGAIN THIS I WILL LET MYSELF BE SOUGHT BY [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL TO ACT FOR THEM I WILL INCREASE <OBJ.> THEM LIKE <THE> FLOCK HUMAN[S] 37This is what the Lord GOD says: Once again I will hear the plea of the house of Israel and do for them this: I will multiply their people like a flock.
38LIKE SHEEP OF HOLINESS<ES> LIKE [THE] SHEEP OF JERUSALEM AT APPOINTED TIMES ITS SO THEY WILL BE THE CITIES <THE> WASTED FULL OF FLOCK[S] OF HUMAN[S] AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 38Like the numerous flocks for sacrifices at Jerusalem during her appointed feasts, so the ruined cities will be filled with flocks of people. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
