38AND THE YOUNG ALSO SHE SHE BORE A SON AND SHE CALLED NAME HIS BEN- AMMI HE [IS] [THE] ANCESTOR OF [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON UNTIL THIS DAY 38The younger daughter also gave birth to a son, and she named him Ben-ammi.*NoteCloseBen-ammi means son of my people. He is the father of the Ammonites of today.
1AND HE SET OUT FROM THERE ABRAHAM [THE] LAND OF TOWARDS THE NEGEV AND HE DWELT BETWEEN KADESH AND BETWEEN SHUR AND HE SOJOURNED IN GERAR Abraham, Sarah, and Abimelech 1Now Abraham journeyed from there to the region of the Negev and settled between Kadesh and Shur. While he was staying in Gerar,
2AND HE SAID ABRAHAM CONCERNING SARAH WIFE HIS [IS] SISTER MY SHE AND HE SENT ABIMELECH [THE] KING OF GERAR AND HE TOOK <OBJ.> SARAH 2Abraham said of his wife Sarah, “She is my sister.” So Abimelech king of Gerar had Sarah brought to him.
3AND HE CAME GOD TO ABIMELECH IN A DREAM THE NIGHT AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM HERE YOU [ARE] ABOUT TO DIE ON THE WOMAN WHOM YOU HAVE TAKEN AND SHE [IS] MARRIED OF A HUSBAND 3One night, however, God came to Abimelech in a dream and told him, “You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken, for she is a married woman.”
4AND ABIMELECH NOT HE HAD DRAWN NEAR TO HER AND HE SAID O LORD ¿ A NATION ALSO RIGHTEOUS WILL YOU KILL 4Now Abimelech had not gone near her, so he replied, “Lord, would You destroy a nation even though it is innocent?
5¿ NOT HE DID HE SAY TO <THE> ME [IS] SISTER MY SHE AND SHE ALSO SHE SHE SAID [IS] BROTHER MY HE IN [THE] INTEGRITY OF HEART MY AND IN [THE] INNOCENCE OF HANDS MY I HAVE DONE THIS 5Didn’t Abraham tell me, ‘She is my sister’? And she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ I have done this in the integrity of my heart and the innocence of my hands.”
6AND HE SAID TO HIM <THE> GOD IN A DREAM ALSO I I KNOW THAT IN [THE] INTEGRITY OF HEART YOUR YOU DID THIS AND I HAVE RESTRAINED ALSO I <OBJ.> YOU FROM SINNING TO <THE> ME THERE- -FORE NOT I HAVE PERMITTED YOU TO TOUCH <TO> HER 6Then God said to Abimelech in the dream, “Yes, I know that you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against Me. That is why I did not let you touch her.
7AND THEREFORE RETURN [THE] WIFE OF THE MAN FOR [IS] A PROPHET HE SO HE MAY PRAY FOR YOU AND LIVE AND IF NOT [ARE] YOU RETURNING [HER] KNOW THAT CERTAINLY <TO DIE> YOU WILL DIE YOU AND ALL WHO [BELONG] TO <THE> YOU 7Now return the man’s wife, for he is a prophet; he will pray for you and you will live. But if you do not restore her, be aware that you will surely die you and all who belong to you.”
8AND HE ROSE EARLY ABIMELECH IN THE MORNING AND HE SUMMONED <TO> ALL SERVANTS HIS AND HE SPOKE <OBJ.> ALL THE WORDS <THE> THESE IN EARS THEIR AND THEY WERE AFRAID THE MEN EXCEEDINGLY 8Early the next morning Abimelech got up and summoned all his servants; and when he described to them all that had happened, the men were terrified.
9AND HE SUMMONED ABIMELECH <TO> ABRAHAM AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM WHAT? HAVE YOU DONE TO <THE> US AND WHAT? HAVE I SINNED TO <THE> YOU FOR YOU HAVE BROUGHT ON ME AND ON KINGDOM MY A SIN GREAT DEEDS WHICH NOT THEY WILL BE DONE YOU HAVE DONE WITH ME 9Then Abimelech called Abraham and asked “What have you done to us? How have I sinned against you, that you have brought such tremendous guilt upon me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should not be done.”
10AND HE SAID ABIMELECH TO ABRAHAM WHAT? DID YOU SEE THAT YOU HAVE DONE <OBJ.> THE THING <THE> THIS 10Abimelech also asked Abraham, “What prompted you to do such a thing?”
11AND HE SAID ABRAHAM THAT I SAID CERTAINLY THERE NOT [IS] [THE] FEAR OF GOD IN THE PLACE <THE> THIS AND THEY WILL KILL ME ON [THE] MATTER OF WIFE MY 11Abraham replied, “I thought to myself, ‘Surely there is no fear of God in this place. They will kill me on account of my wife.’
12AND ALSO TRULY [IS] SISTER MY [THE] DAUGHTER OF FATHER MY SHE ONLY NOT [THE] DAUGHTER OF MOTHER MY AND SHE BECAME OF ME <INTO> A WIFE 12Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father— though not the daughter of my mother— and she became my wife.
13AND IT WAS JUST AS THEY CAUSED TO WANDER <OBJ.> ME GOD FROM [THE] HOUSEHOLD OF FATHER MY AND I SAID TO <THE> HER THIS [IS] LOYALTY YOUR WHICH YOU WILL DO WITH ME TO EVERY <THE> PLACE WHERE WE WILL GO THERE TOWARDS SAY OF <THE> ME [IS] BROTHER MY HE 13So when God had me journey from my father’s house, I said to Sarah, ‘This is how you can show your loyalty to me: Wherever we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”
14AND HE TOOK ABIMELECH SHEEP AND CATTLE AND [MALE] SERVANTS AND FEMALE SERVANTS AND HE GAVE [THEM] TO ABRAHAM AND HE RESTORED TO <THE> HIM <OBJ.> SARAH WIFE HIS 14So Abimelech brought sheep and cattle, menservants and maidservants, and he gave them to Abraham and restored his wife Sarah to him.
15AND HE SAID ABIMELECH THERE! LAND MY [IS] <TO> BEFORE YOU IN THE [PLACE] GOOD IN VIEW YOUR DWELL 15And Abimelech said, “Look, my land is before you. Settle wherever you please
16AND TO SARAH HE SAID HERE! I GIVE A THOUSAND SILVER TO BROTHER YOUR THERE! IT FOR <THE> YOU [IS] A COVERING OF EYES TO ALL WHO [ARE] WITH YOU AND WITH EVERYONE <AND> [YOU ARE] VINDICATED 16And he said to Sarah, “See, I am giving your brother a thousand pieces of silver.*NoteCloseOr a thousand shekels of silver; that is, approximately 25.1 pounds or 11.4 kilograms of silver It is your vindication before all who are with you; you are completely cleared.”
17AND HE PRAYED ABRAHAM TO <THE> GOD AND HE HEALED GOD <OBJ.> ABIMELECH AND <OBJ.> WIFE HIS AND FEMALE SLAVES HIS AND THEY BORE CHILDREN 17Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech and his wife and his maidservants, so that they could again bear children—
18FOR CERTAINLY <TO SHUT UP> <HE> HAD SHUT UP YAHWEH BEHIND EVERY WOMB OF [THE] HOUSEHOLD OF ABIMELECH ON [THE] MATTER OF SARAH [THE] WIFE OF ABRAHAM 18for on account of Abraham’s wife Sarah, the LORD had completely closed all the wombs in Abimelech’s household.
