2AND SHE DIED SARAH AT KIRIATH ARBA THAT [IS] HEBRON IN [THE] LAND OF CANAAN AND HE WENT ABRAHAM TO MOURN FOR SARAH AND TO WEEP FOR HER 2She died in Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan, and Abraham went out to mourn and to weep for her.
3AND HE AROSE ABRAHAM FROM ON [THE] FACE OF DEAD HIS AND HE SPOKE TO [THE] PEOPLE OF HETH <TO> SAYING 3Then Abraham got up from beside his dead wife and said to the Hittites,*NoteCloseOr sons of Heth; also in verses 5, 7, 10, 16, 18, and 20

6LISTEN TO US O LORD MY [ARE] A PRINCE OF GOD YOU IN MIDST OF US IN [THE] CHOICEST OF BURIAL SITES OUR BURY <OBJ.> DEAD YOUR ANYONE OF US <OBJ.> BURIAL SITE HIS NOT HE WILL WITHHOLD FROM YOU FROM BURYING DEAD YOUR 6“Listen to us, sir. You are God’s chosen one among us. Bury your dead in the finest of our tombs. None of us will withhold his tomb for burying your dead.”
7AND HE AROSE ABRAHAM AND HE BOWED DOWN TO [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND TO [THE] PEOPLE OF HETH 7Then Abraham rose and bowed down before the people of the land, the Hittites.
8AND HE SPOKE WITH THEM <TO> SAYING IF THERE WITH DESIRE YOUR TO BURY <OBJ.> DEAD MY FROM TO BEFORE ME LISTEN TO ME AND ENTREAT FOR <THE> ME <IN> EPHRON [THE] SON OF ZOHAR 8“If you are willing for me to bury my dead,” he said to them, listen to me, and approach Ephron son of Zohar on my behalf
9SO MAY HE GIVE TO <THE> ME <OBJ.> [THE] CAVE OF <THE> MACHPELAH WHICH [BELONGS] TO <THE> HIM WHICH [IS] AT [THE] END OF FIELD HIS FOR SILVER FULL LET HIM GIVE IT TO <THE> ME IN MIDST OF YOU TO A POSSESSION OF A BURIAL SITE 9to sell me the cave of Machpelah that belongs to him; it is at the end of his field. Let him sell it to me in your presence for full price, so that I may have a burial site.”
10AND EPHRON [WAS] SITTING IN AMONG [THE] PEOPLE OF HETH AND HE ANSWERED EPHRON THE HETHITE <OBJ.> ABRAHAM IN [THE] EARS OF [THE] PEOPLE OF HETH TO ALL [THOSE WHO WERE] ENTERING <OF> [THE] GATE OF CITY HIS <TO> SAYING 10Now Ephron was sitting among the sons of Heth. So in the presence of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of his city, Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham,

Listen to me. I give you the field, and I give you the cave that is in it. I give it to you in the presence of my people. Bury your dead.”
12AND HE BOWED DOWN ABRAHAM <TO> BEFORE [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND 12Again Abraham bowed down before the people of the land
13AND HE SPOKE TO EPHRON IN [THE] EARS OF [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND <TO> SAYING NEVERTHELESS IF YOU IF LISTEN TO ME I GIVE [THE] MONEY OF THE FIELD TAKE [IT] FROM ME SO LET ME BURY <OBJ.> DEAD MY THERE <TOWARDS> 13and said to Ephron in their presence “If you will please listen to me, I will pay you the price of the field. Accept it from me, so that I may bury my dead there.”
15O LORD MY LISTEN TO ME LAND OF FOUR HUNDRED<S> SHEKEL[S] OF SILVER BETWEEN ME AND BETWEEN YOU WHAT? [IS] IT AND <OBJ.> DEAD YOUR BURY 15“Listen to me, my lord. The land is worth four hundred shekels of silver,*NoteClose400 shekels is approximately 10.1 pounds or 4.6 kilograms of silver; also in verse 16. but what is that between you and me? Bury your dead.”
16AND HE LISTENED ABRAHAM TO EPHRON AND HE WEIGHED OUT ABRAHAM FOR EPHRON <OBJ.> THE MONEY WHICH HE HAD SPOKEN IN [THE] EARS OF [THE] PEOPLE OF HETH FOUR HUNDRED<S> SHEKEL[S] OF SILVER PASSING ALONG TO THE TRADER 16Abraham agreed to Ephron’s terms and weighed out for him the price he had named in the hearing of the Hittites: four hundred shekels of silver, according to the standard of the merchants.
17AND IT WAS CONFIRMED [THE] FIELD OF EPHRON WHICH [WAS] IN <THE> MACHPELAH WHICH [WAS] <TO> BEFORE MAMRE THE FIELD AND THE CAVE WHICH [WAS] IN <THE> IT AND EVERY <THE> TREE WHICH [WAS] IN THE FIELD WHICH [WAS] IN ALL BORDER ITS ROUND ABOUT 17So Ephron’s field at Machpelah near Mamre the cave that was in it, and all the trees within the boundaries of the field were deeded over
18TO ABRAHAM TO A POSSESSION TO [THE] EYES OF [THE] PEOPLE OF HETH FOR ALL [THOSE WHO WERE] ENTERING <OF> [THE] GATE OF CITY HIS 18to Abraham’s possession in the presence of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of his city.
19AND AFTER THUS HE BURIED ABRAHAM <OBJ.> SARAH WIFE HIS INTO [THE] CAVE OF [THE] FIELD OF <THE> MACHPELAH ON [THE] FACE OF MAMRE THAT [IS] HEBRON IN [THE] LAND OF CANAAN 19After this, Abraham buried his wife Sarah in the cave of the field at Machpelah near Mamre (that is, Hebron) in the land of Canaan.
20AND IT WAS CONFIRMED THE FIELD AND THE CAVE WHICH [WAS] IN <THE> IT TO ABRAHAM TO A POSSESSION OF A BURIAL SITE FROM WITH [THE] PEOPLE OF HETH 20So the field and its cave were deeded by the Hittites to Abraham as a burial site.
