22AND THE STONE <THE> THIS WHICH I HAVE SET UP A PILLAR IT WILL BE [THE] HOUSE OF GOD AND ALL THAT YOU WILL GIVE TO <THE> ME FULLY <TITHE> I WILL TITHE IT TO <THE> YOU 22And this stone I have set up as a pillar will be God’s house, and of all that You give me I will surely give You a tenth
1AND HE LIFTED UP JACOB FEET HIS AND HE WENT [THE] LAND OF TOWARDS [THE] PEOPLE OF [THE] EAST Jacob Meets Rachel 1Jacob resumed his journey and came to the land of the people of the east.
2AND HE SAW AND THERE! A WELL [WAS] IN THE FIELD AND THERE! THERE THREE FLOCKS OF SHEEP [WERE] LYING DOWN AT IT FOR FROM THE WELL <THE> THAT PEOPLE WATERED THE FLOCKS AND THE STONE [WAS] LARGE OVER [THE] MOUTH OF THE WELL 2He looked and saw a well in the field, and near it lay three flocks of sheep, because the sheep were watered from this well. And a large stone covered the mouth of the well.
3AND THEY WERE GATHERED THERE TOWARDS ALL THE FLOCKS AND THEY ROLLED <OBJ.> THE STONE FROM OVER [THE] MOUTH OF THE WELL AND THEY WATERED <OBJ.> THE SHEEP AND THEY PUT BACK <OBJ.> THE STONE OVER [THE] MOUTH OF THE WELL TO PLACE ITS 3When all the flocks had been gathered there, the shepherds would roll away the stone from the mouth of the well and water the sheep. Then they would return the stone to its place over the mouth of the well.
4AND HE SAID TO <THE> THEM JACOB O BROTHERS MY FROM WHERE? [ARE] YOU AND THEY SAID [ARE] FROM HARAN WE 4“My brothers,” Jacob asked the shepherds, “where are you from?” “We are from Haran,” they answered.
5AND HE SAID TO <THE> THEM ¿ DO YOU KNOW <OBJ.> LABAN [THE] SON OF NAHOR AND THEY SAID WE KNOW [HIM] 5“Do you know Laban the grandson of Nahor?” Jacob asked “We know him,” they replied.
6AND HE SAID TO <THE> THEM ¿ [DOES] HEALTH [BELONG] TO <THE> HIM AND THEY SAID HEALTH AND THERE! RACHEL DAUGHTER HIS [IS] COMING WITH THE SHEEP 6“Is he well Jacob inquired “Yes,” they answered, “and here comes his daughter Rachel with his sheep.”
7AND HE SAID HERE! STILL THE DAY [IS] GREAT NOT [THE] TIME OF [THE] BEING GATHERED OF THE LIVESTOCK WATER THE SHEEP AND GO PASTURE [THEM] 7“Look,” said Jacob, “it is still broad daylight; it is not yet time to gather the livestock. Water the sheep and take them back to pasture.”
8AND THEY SAID NOT WE ARE ABLE UNTIL THAT THEY WILL BE GATHERED ALL THE FLOCKS AND PEOPLE WILL ROLL <OBJ.> THE STONE FROM OVER [THE] MOUTH OF THE WELL AND WE WILL WATER THE SHEEP 8But they replied, “We cannot, until all the flocks have been gathered and the stone has been rolled away from the mouth of the well. Then we will water the sheep.”
9STILL [WAS] HE SPEAKING WITH THEM AND RACHEL SHE CAME WITH THE SHEEP WHICH [BELONGED] TO FATHER HER FOR [WAS] A SHEPHERDESS SHE 9While he was still speaking with them, Rachel arrived with her father’s sheep, for she was a shepherdess.
10AND IT WAS JUST AS HE SAW JACOB <OBJ.> RACHEL [THE] DAUGHTER OF LABAN [THE] BROTHER OF MOTHER HIS AND <OBJ.> [THE] SHEEP OF LABAN [THE] BROTHER OF MOTHER HIS AND HE DREW NEAR JACOB AND HE ROLLED <OBJ.> THE STONE FROM OVER [THE] MOUTH OF THE WELL AND HE WATERED <OBJ.> [THE] SHEEP OF LABAN [THE] BROTHER OF MOTHER HIS 10As soon as Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of his mother’s brother Laban, with Laban’s sheep, he went up and rolled the stone away from the mouth of the well and watered his uncle’s sheep.
11AND HE KISSED JACOB <TO> RACHEL AND HE LIFTED UP <OBJ.> VOICE HIS AND HE WEPT 11Then Jacob kissed Rachel and wept aloud.
12AND HE TOLD JACOB TO RACHEL THAT [WAS] [THE] RELATIVE OF FATHER HER HE AND THAT [WAS] [THE] SON OF REBEKAH HE AND SHE RAN AND SHE TOLD TO FATHER HER 12He told Rachel that he was Rebekah’s son, a relative of her father, and she ran and told her father.
13AND IT WAS WHEN HEARD LABAN <OBJ.> [THE] REPORT OF JACOB [THE] SON OF SISTER HIS AND HE RAN TO MEET HIM AND HE EMBRACED <TO> <THE> HIM AND HE KISSED <TO> <THE> HIM AND HE BROUGHT HIM TO HOUSE HIS AND HE RECOUNTED TO LABAN <OBJ.> ALL THE THINGS <THE> THESE 13When Laban heard the news about his sister’s son Jacob, he ran out to meet him. He embraced him and kissed him and brought him to his home, where Jacob told him all that had happened.
14AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM LABAN SURELY [ARE] BONE MY AND FLESH MY YOU AND HE REMAINED WITH HIM A MONTH OF DAYS Jacob Marries Leah and Rachel 14Then Laban declared, “You are indeed my own flesh and blood.” After Jacob had stayed with him a month,
15AND HE SAID LABAN TO JACOB ¿ FOR RELATIVE MY [ARE] YOU AND YOU WILL SERVE ME FOR NOTHING TELL! TO <THE> ME WHAT? [IS] WAGE[S] YOUR 15Laban said to him, “Just because you are my relative, should you work for nothing? Tell me what your wages should be.”
16AND [BELONGED] TO LABAN TWO DAUGHTERS [THE] NAME OF THE OLD [ONE] [WAS] LEAH AND [THE] NAME OF THE YOUNG [ONE] [WAS] RACHEL 16Now Laban had two daughters; the older was named Leah, and the younger was named Rachel.
17AND [THE] EYES OF LEAH [WERE] WEAK AND RACHEL SHE WAS BEAUTIFUL OF FORM AND BEAUTIFUL OF APPEARANCE 17Leah had weak eyes,*NoteCloseOr had delicate eyes but Rachel was shapely and beautiful.
18AND HE LOVED JACOB <OBJ.> RACHEL AND HE SAID I WILL SERVE YOU SEVEN YEARS FOR RACHEL DAUGHTER YOUR <THE> YOUNG 18Since Jacob loved Rachel, he answered, “I will serve you seven years for your younger daughter Rachel.”
19AND HE SAID LABAN [IS] GOOD TO GIVE I <OBJ.> HER TO <THE> YOU MORE THAN TO GIVE I <OBJ.> HER TO A MAN ANOTHER REMAIN! WITH ME 19Laban replied, “Better that I give her to you than to another. Stay here with me.”
20AND HE SERVED JACOB FOR RACHEL SEVEN YEARS AND THEY WERE IN VIEW HIS LIKE DAYS ONE<S> IN LOVE HIS <OBJ.> HER 20So Jacob served seven years for Rachel, yet it seemed but a few days because of his love for her.
21AND HE SAID JACOB TO LABAN GIVE! <OBJ.> WIFE MY FOR THEY HAVE BEEN COMPLETED DAYS MY SO I MAY GO INTO HER 21Finally Jacob said to Laban, “Grant me my wife, for my time is complete, and I want to sleep with her.”
22AND HE GATHERED LABAN <OBJ.> ALL [THE] PEOPLE OF THE PLACE AND HE PREPARED A FEAST 22So Laban invited all the men of that place and prepared a feast.
23AND IT WAS IN THE EVENING AND HE TOOK <OBJ.> LEAH DAUGHTER HIS AND HE BROUGHT <OBJ.> HER TO HIM AND HE WENT INTO HER 23But when evening came, Laban took his daughter Leah and gave her to Jacob, and he slept with her.
24AND HE HAD GIVEN LABAN TO <THE> HER <OBJ.> ZILPAH MAIDSERVANT HIS TO LEAH DAUGHTER HIS A MAIDSERVANT 24And Laban gave his servant girl Zilpah to his daughter Leah as her maidservant.
25AND IT WAS IN THE MORNING AND THERE! SHE [WAS] LEAH AND HE SAID TO LABAN WHAT? THIS HAVE YOU DONE TO <THE> ME ¿ NOT FOR RACHEL HAVE I SERVED WITH YOU AND <TO> WHY? HAVE YOU DECEIVED ME 25When morning came, there was Leah! “What have you done to me?” Jacob said to Laban. “Wasn’t it for Rachel that I served you? Why have you deceived me?”
26AND HE SAID LABAN NOT IT IS DONE THUS IN PLACE OUR TO GIVE THE YOUNG <TO> BEFORE THE FIRSTBORN 26Laban replied, “It is not our custom here to give the younger daughter in marriage before the older.
27COMPLETE [THE] WEEK OF THIS [ONE] SO LET US GIVE TO <THE> YOU ALSO <OBJ.> THIS [ONE] FOR [THE] SERVICE WHICH YOU WILL SERVE WITH ME AGAIN SEVEN YEARS ANOTHER 27Finish this week’s celebration and we will give you the younger one in return for another seven years of work.”
28AND HE DID JACOB THUS AND HE COMPLETED [THE] WEEK OF THIS [ONE] AND HE GAVE TO <THE> HIM <OBJ.> RACHEL DAUGHTER HIS OF HIM TO A WIFE 28And Jacob did just that. He finished the week’s celebration, and Laban gave him his daughter Rachel as his wife.
29AND HE HAD GIVEN LABAN TO RACHEL DAUGHTER HIS <OBJ.> BILHAH MAIDSERVANT HIS TO HER TO [BE] A MAIDSERVANT 29Laban also gave his servant girl Bilhah to his daughter Rachel as her maidservant.
30AND HE WENT ALSO INTO RACHEL AND HE LOVED ALSO <OBJ.> RACHEL MORE THAN LEAH AND HE SERVED WITH HIM AGAIN SEVEN YEARS ANOTHER 30Jacob slept with Rachel as well, and indeed, he loved Rachel more than Leah. So he worked for Laban another seven years.
31AND HE SAW YAHWEH THAT [WAS] HATED LEAH AND HE OPENED <OBJ.> WOMB HER AND RACHEL [WAS] BARREN Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah 31When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.
32AND SHE CONCEIVED LEAH AND SHE BORE A SON AND SHE CALLED NAME HIS REUBEN FOR SHE SAID THAT HE HAS LOOKED YAHWEH ON AFFLICTION MY FOR NOW HE WILL LOVE ME HUSBAND MY 32And Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and she named him Reuben,*NoteCloseReuben means Look, a son and also sounds like the Hebrew for He has seen my misery. for she said, “The LORD has seen my affliction. Surely my husband will love me now.”
33AND SHE CONCEIVED AGAIN AND SHE BORE A SON AND SHE SAID THAT HE HAS HEARD YAHWEH THAT [AM] HATED I AND HE HAS GIVEN TO <THE> ME ALSO <OBJ.> THIS [ONE] AND SHE CALLED NAME HIS SIMEON 33Again she conceived and gave birth to a son, and she said, “Because the LORD has heard that I am unloved, He has given me this son as well.” So she named him Simeon.*NoteCloseSimeon probably means one who hears.
34AND SHE CONCEIVED AGAIN AND SHE BORE A SON AND SHE SAID NOW THIS TIME HE WILL JOIN HIMSELF HUSBAND MY TO ME FOR I HAVE BORNE TO <THE> HIM THREE SONS THERE- -FORE HE CALLED NAME HIS LEVI 34Once again Leah conceived and gave birth to a son, and she said, “Now at last my husband will become attached to me, because I have borne him three sons.” So he was named Levi.*NoteCloseLevi sounds like the Hebrew for being attached to or feeling affection for.
35AND SHE CONCEIVED AGAIN AND SHE BORE A SON AND SHE SAID THIS TIME I WILL PRAISE <OBJ.> YAHWEH THERE- -FORE SHE CALLED NAME HIS JUDAH AND SHE STOPPED FROM BEARING CHILDREN 35And once more she conceived and gave birth to a son and said, “This time I will praise the LORD.” So she named him Judah.*NoteCloseJudah sounds like the Hebrew for praise. Then Leah stopped having children.
