23NOT [THE] COMMANDER OF [THE] HOUSE OF THE PRISON [WAS] SEEING <OBJ.> ALL ANYTHING IN HAND HIS IN THAT YAHWEH [WAS] WITH HIM AND [THAT] WHICH HE [WAS] DOING YAHWEH [WAS] MAKING SUCCESSFUL 23The warden did not concern himself with anything under Joseph’s care, because the LORD was with Joseph and gave him success in whatever he did.
1AND IT WAS AFTER THE THINGS <THE> THESE THEY SINNED [THE] CUP BEARER OF [THE] KING OF EGYPT AND THE BAKER TO MASTER<S> THEIR TO [THE] KING OF EGYPT The Cupbearer and the Baker 1Some time later the king’s cupbearer and baker offended their master, the king of Egypt.
2AND HE WAS ANGRY PHARAOH TOWARDS TWO OF OFFICIALS HIS TOWARDS [THE] CHIEF OF THE CUP BEARERS AND TOWARDS [THE] CHIEF OF THE BAKERS 2Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker,
3AND HE PUT <OBJ.> THEM IN [THE] CUSTODY OF [THE] HOUSE OF [THE] COMMANDER OF THE BODYGUARDS INTO [THE] HOUSE OF THE PRISON [THE] PLACE <OF> WHERE JOSEPH [WAS] IMPRISONED THERE 3and imprisoned them in the house of the captain of the guard, the same prison where Joseph was confined.
4AND HE APPOINTED [THE] COMMANDER OF THE BODYGUARDS <OBJ.> JOSEPH WITH THEM AND HE SERVED <OBJ.> THEM AND THEY WERE DAYS IN CUSTODY 4The captain of the guard assigned them to Joseph, and he became their personal attendant. After they had been in custody for some time,
5AND THEY DREAMED A DREAM BOTH OF THEM EACH OWN DREAM HIS IN A NIGHT ONE EACH ACCORDING TO [THE] INTERPRETATION OF DREAM HIS THE CUP BEARER AND THE BAKER WHO [BELONGED] TO [THE] KING OF EGYPT WHO [WERE] IMPRISONED IN [THE] HOUSE OF THE PRISON 5both of these men— the Egyptian king’s cupbearer and baker, who were being held in the prison had a dream on the same night, and each dream had its own meaning.
6AND HE CAME TO THEM JOSEPH IN THE MORNING AND HE SAW <OBJ.> THEM AND [WERE] THEY LOOKING DEJECTED 6When Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they were distraught.
7AND HE ASKED <OBJ.> [THE] OFFICIALS OF PHARAOH WHO [WERE] WITH HIM IN [THE] CUSTODY OF [THE] HOUSE OF MASTER<S> HIS <TO> SAYING WHY? [ARE] FACES YOUR SAD THIS DAY 7So he asked the officials of Pharaoh who were in custody with him in his master’s house, “Why are your faces so downcast today?”
8AND THEY SAID TO HIM A DREAM WE DREAMED AND [IS ONE WHO] INTERPRETS THERE NOT <OBJ.> IT AND HE SAID TO THEM JOSEPH ¿ NOT [BELONG] TO GOD [DO] INTERPRETATIONS RECOUNT [IT] PLEASE TO <THE> ME 8“We both had dreams they replied, “but there is no one to interpret them.” Then Joseph said to them, “Don’t interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams
9AND HE RECOUNTED [THE] CHIEF OF THE CUP BEARERS <OBJ.> DREAM HIS TO JOSEPH AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM IN DREAM MY AND THERE! A VINE [WAS] <TO> BEFORE ME 9So the chief cupbearer told Joseph his dream “In my dream there was a vine before me,
10AND [WERE] ON THE VINE THREE BRANCHES AND IT WHEN [IT WAS] BUDDING IT WENT UP BLOSSOM ITS THEY RIPENED CLUSTERS ITS GRAPES 10and on the vine were three branches. As it budded, its blossoms opened and its clusters ripened into grapes.
11AND [THE] CUP OF PHARAOH [WAS] IN HAND MY AND I TOOK <OBJ.> THE GRAPES AND I SQUEEZED <OBJ.> THEM INTO [THE] CUP OF PHARAOH AND I PUT <OBJ.> THE CUP ON [THE] PALM OF PHARAOH 11Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand, and I took the grapes, squeezed them into his cup, and placed the cup in his hand.”
12AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM JOSEPH THIS [IS] INTERPRETATION ITS [THE] THREE THE BRANCHES [ARE] THREE DAYS THEY 12Joseph replied, “This is the interpretation: The three branches are three days.
13IN AGAIN THREE DAYS HE WILL LIFT UP PHARAOH <OBJ.> HEAD YOUR AND HE WILL RESTORE YOU TO OFFICE YOUR AND YOU WILL PUT [THE] CUP OF PHARAOH IN HAND HIS ACCORDING TO THE CUSTOM <THE> FORMER WHEN YOU WERE CUP BEARER HIS 13Within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore your position. You will put Pharaoh’s cup in his hand, just as you did when you were his cupbearer.
14THAT EXCEPT YOU HAVE REMEMBERED ME WITH YOU <JUST> WHEN IT WILL GO WELL FOR <THE> YOU AND YOU WILL DO PLEASE WITH ME LOYALTY AND YOU WILL BRING TO REMEMBRANCE ME TO PHARAOH AND YOU WILL BRING OUT ME FROM THE HOUSE <THE> THIS 14But when it goes well for you, please remember me and show me kindness by mentioning me to Pharaoh, that he might bring me out of this prison.
15FOR CERTAINLY <TO BE STOLEN> I WAS STOLEN FROM [THE] LAND OF THE HEBREWS AND ALSO HERE NOT I HAVE DONE ANYTHING THAT THEY HAVE PUT <OBJ.> ME IN THE PIT 15For I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing for which they should have put me in this dungeon.”
16AND HE SAW [THE] CHIEF OF THE BAKERS THAT GOOD HE HAD INTERPRETED AND HE SAID TO JOSEPH ALSO I IN DREAM MY AND THERE! THREE BASKETS OF WHITE BREAD [WERE] ON HEAD MY 16When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was favorable, he said to Joseph, “I too had a dream: There were three baskets of white bread on my head.
17AND [WAS] IN THE BASKET <THE> UPPER SOME OF ALL [THE] FOOD OF PHARAOH [THE] WORK OF A BAKER AND THE BIRD[S] [WAS] EATING <OBJ.> THEM FROM THE BASKET FROM ON HEAD MY 17In the top basket were all sorts of baked goods for Pharaoh, but the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.”
18AND HE ANSWERED JOSEPH AND HE SAID THIS [IS] INTERPRETATION ITS [THE] THREE THE BASKETS [ARE] THREE DAYS THEY 18Joseph replied, “This is the interpretation: The three baskets are three days.
19IN AGAIN THREE DAYS HE WILL LIFT UP PHARAOH <OBJ.> HEAD YOUR FROM ON <THE> YOU AND HE WILL HANG <OBJ.> YOU ON A TREE AND IT WILL EAT THE BIRD[S] <OBJ.> FLESH YOUR FROM ON <THE> YOU 19Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head and hang you on a tree.*NoteCloseOr and impale you on a pole; similarly in verse 22 Then the birds will eat the flesh of your body.”
20AND IT WAS ON THE DAY <THE> THIRD [THE] DAY OF BEING BORN <OBJ.> PHARAOH AND HE MADE A FEAST FOR ALL SERVANTS HIS AND HE LIFTED UP <OBJ.> [THE] HEAD OF [THE] CHIEF OF THE CUP BEARERS AND <OBJ.> [THE] HEAD OF [THE] CHIEF OF THE BAKERS IN AMONG SERVANTS HIS 20On the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday he held a feast for all his officials, and in their presence he lifted up the heads of the chief cupbearer and the chief baker.
21AND HE RESTORED <OBJ.> [THE] CHIEF OF THE CUP BEARERS TO CUP BEARING HIS AND HE PUT THE CUP ON [THE] PALM OF PHARAOH 21Pharaoh restored the chief cupbearer to his position, so that he once again placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.
22AND <OBJ.> [THE] CHIEF OF THE BAKERS HE HANGED JUST AS HE HAD INTERPRETED FOR <THE> THEM JOSEPH 22But Pharaoh hanged the chief baker, just as Joseph had described to them in his interpretation.*NoteCloseLiterally had interpreted to them
23AND NOT HE REMEMBERED [THE] CHIEF OF THE CUP BEARERS <OBJ.> JOSEPH AND HE FORGOT HIM 23The chief cupbearer, however, did not remember Joseph; he forgot all about him.
