1 AND IT WAS IN [THE] DAYS OF AHAZ [THE] SON OF JOTHAM [THE] SON OF UZZIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH HE WENT UP REZIN [THE] KING OF ARAM AND PEKAH [THE] SON OF REMALIAH [THE] KING OF ISRAEL JERUSALEM FOR <THE> BATTLE ON IT AND NOT HE WAS ABLE TO ENGAGE IN BATTLE ON IT
A Message to Ahaz
1 Now in the days that Ahaz son of Jotham, the son of Uzziah, was king of Judah, Rezin king of Aram marched up to wage war against Jerusalem. He was accompanied by Pekah son of Remaliah the king of Israel, but he could not overpower the city.
2 AND IT WAS TOLD TO [THE] HOUSE OF DAVID <TO> SAYING IT HAS STOOD ARAM WITH EPHRAIM AND IT SHOOK HEART HIS AND [THE] HEART OF PEOPLE HIS AS SHAKE [THE] TREES OF [THE] FOREST FROM BEFORE A WIND
2 When it was reported to the house of David that Aram was in league with Ephraim, the hearts of Ahaz and his people trembled like trees in the forest shaken by the wind.
3 AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO ISAIAH GO OUT PLEASE TO MEET AHAZ YOU AND SHEAR- JASHUB SON YOUR TO [THE] END OF [THE] CONDUIT OF THE POOL <THE> UPPER TO [THE] HIGHWAY OF [THE] FIELD OF [THE] WASHER
3 Then the LORD said to Isaiah, “Go out with your son Shear-jashub to meet Ahaz at the end of the aqueduct that feeds the upper pool, on the road to the Launderer’s Field,
4 AND YOU WILL SAY TO HIM TAKE CARE AND SHOW QUIETNESS MAY NOT YOU BE AFRAID AND HEART YOUR MAY NOT IT BE WEAK FROM [THE] TWO [THE] STUMPS OF <THE> PIECES OF FIREWOOD <THE> SMOKING <THE> THESE BY [THE] HEAT OF [THE] ANGER OF REZIN AND ARAM AND [THE] SON OF REMALIAH
4 and say to him: Calm down and be quiet. Do not be afraid or disheartened over these two smoldering stubs of firewood— over the fierce anger of Rezin and Aram and of the son of Remaliah.
5 BECAUSE FOR IT HAS PLANNED ON YOU ARAM HARM EPHRAIM AND [THE] SON OF REMALIAH <TO> SAYING
5 For Aram, along with Ephraim and the son of Remaliah, has plotted your ruin, saying:
6 LET US GO UP ON JUDAH AND LET US DEMOLISH IT AND LET US BREAK INTO IT TO OURSELVES AND LET US MAKE KING A KING IN [THE] MIDST OF IT <OBJ.> [THE] SON OF TABEEL
6 ‘Let us invade Judah, terrorize it, and divide it among ourselves. Then we can install the son of Tabeal over it as king.’
7 THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH NOT IT WILL STAND AND NOT IT WILL HAPPEN
7 But this is what the Lord GOD says:
‘It will not arise;
it will not happen.
8 FOR [IS] [THE] HEAD OF ARAM DAMASCUS AND [IS] [THE] HEAD OF DAMASCUS REZIN AND IN YET SIXTY AND FIVE YEAR[S] IT WILL BE SHATTERED EPHRAIM FROM A PEOPLE
8 For the head of Aram is Damascus,
and the head of Damascus is Rezin.
Within sixty-five years
Ephraim will be shattered as a people.
9 AND [IS] [THE] HEAD OF EPHRAIM SAMARIA AND [IS] [THE] HEAD OF SAMARIA [THE] SON OF REMALIAH IF NOT YOU WILL BELIEVE FOR NOT YOU WILL BE ESTABLISHED
9 The head of Ephraim is Samaria,
and the head of Samaria is the son of Remaliah.
If you do not stand firm in your faith,
then you will not stand at all.’”
10 AND HE REPEATED YAHWEH TO SPEAK TO AHAZ <TO> SAYING
The Sign of Immanuel
(Matthew 1:18–25 )
10 Again the LORD spoke to Ahaz, saying,
11 ASK FOR YOURSELF A SIGN FROM WITH YAHWEH GOD YOUR MAKE DEEP [AS] SHEOL OR MAKE HIGH <TO> UPWARDS <TOWARDS>
11 “Ask for a sign from the LORD your God, whether from the depths of Sheol or the heights of heaven.”
12 AND HE SAID AHAZ NOT I WILL ASK AND NOT I WILL PUT TO [THE] TEST <OBJ.> YAHWEH
12 But Ahaz replied, “I will not ask; I will not test the LORD.”
13 AND HE SAID HEAR PLEASE O HOUSE OF DAVID ¿ [TOO] LITTLE FOR YOU [IS] TO MAKE WEARY PEOPLE THAT YOU WILL MAKE WEARY ALSO <OBJ.> GOD MY
13 Then Isaiah said, “Hear now, O house of David! Is it not enough to try the patience of men? Will you try the patience of my God as well?
14 <TO> THEREFORE HE WILL GIVE [THE] LORD HE TO YOU A SIGN THERE! THE YOUNG WOMAN [WILL BE] PREGNANT AND [WILL] BEAR A SON AND SHE WILL CALL NAME HIS IMMANU- -EL
14 Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin will be with child and give birth to a son, and will call Him Immanuel.
15 CURD<S> AND HONEY HE WILL EAT TO KNOWING HIS TO REJECT <IN> THE EVIL AND TO CHOOSE <IN> THE GOOD
15 By the time He knows enough to reject evil and choose good, He will be eating curds and honey.
16 FOR <IN> BEFORE HE WILL KNOW THE LAD TO REJECT <IN> THE EVIL AND TO CHOOSE <IN> THE GOOD IT WILL BE FORSAKEN THE LAND WHICH YOU [ARE] FEELING DREAD OF <THE FACE OF> [THE] TWO KINGS ITS
16 For before the boy knows enough to reject evil and choose good, the land of the two kings you dread will be laid waste.
17 HE WILL BRING YAHWEH ON YOU AND ON PEOPLE YOUR AND ON [THE] HOUSE OF FATHER YOUR DAYS WHICH NOT THEY HAVE COME <TO> FROM [THE] DAY DEPARTED EPHRAIM FROM WITH JUDAH <OBJ.> [THE] KING OF ASSYRIA
Judgment to Come
(Micah 1:1–7 )
17 The LORD will bring on you and on your people and on the house of your father a time unlike any since the day Ephraim separated from Judah— He will bring the king of Assyria.”
18 AND IT WILL BE IN THE DAY <THE> THAT HE WILL WHISTLE YAHWEH FOR THE FLY WHICH [IS] AT [THE] END OF [THE] CANALS OF EGYPT AND FOR THE BEE WHICH [IS] IN [THE] LAND OF ASSYRIA
18 On that day the LORD will whistle to the flies at the farthest streams of the Nile and to the bees in the land of Assyria.
19 AND THEY WILL COME AND THEY WILL SETTLE ALL OF THEM IN [THE] WADIS OF THE CLIFFS AND IN [THE] CLEFTS OF THE ROCKS AND ON ALL THE THORNBUSHES AND IN ALL THE WATERING-PLACES
19 And they will all come and settle
in the steep ravines and clefts of the rocks,
in all the thornbushes and watering holes.
20 IN THE DAY <THE> THAT HE WILL SHAVE [THE] LORD WITH A RAZOR <THE> HIRED ON [THE] OTHER SIDES <OF> [THE] RIVER WITH [THE] KING OF ASSYRIA <OBJ.> THE HEAD AND [THE] HAIR OF THE FEET AND ALSO <OBJ.> THE BEARD IT WILL SWEEP AWAY
20 On that day the Lord will use a razor hired from beyond the Euphrates — the king of Assyria— to shave your head and the hair of your legs, and to remove your beard as well.
21 AND IT WILL BE IN THE DAY <THE> THAT HE WILL PRESERVE ALIVE A PERSON A HEIFER OF [THE] HERD AND TWO SHEEP
21 On that day a man will raise a young cow and two sheep,
22 AND IT WILL BE FROM [THE] ABUNDANCE OF PRODUCING OF MILK HE WILL EAT CURD<S> FOR CURD<S> AND HONEY HE WILL EAT EVERY <THE> [ONE WHO] REMAINS IN [THE] MIDST OF THE LAND
22 and from the abundance of milk they give, he will eat curds; for all who remain in the land will eat curds and honey.
23 AND IT WILL BE IN THE DAY <THE> THAT IT WILL BE EVERY PLACE WHERE IT WAS THERE A THOUSAND VINE[S] FOR A THOUSAND SILVER <INTO> THE THORN[S] AND <INTO> THE> BUSH[ES] IT WILL BECOME
23 And on that day, in every place that had a thousand vines worth a thousand shekels of silver, only briers and thorns will be found.
24 WITH <THE> ARROWS AND WITH <THE> BOW ANYONE WILL GO THERE <TOWARDS> FOR THORN[S] AND BUSH[ES] IT WILL BE ALL THE LAND
24 Men will go there with bow and arrow, for the land will be covered with briers and thorns.
25 AND ALL THE HILLS WHICH WITH THE HOE THEY WERE HOED ! NOT YOU WILL GO THERE <TOWARDS> FEAR OF THORN[S] AND BUSH[ES] AND IT WILL BECOME <INTO> PASTURELAND OF OX[EN] AND <INTO> A TRAMPLING PLACE OF SHEEP
25 For fear of the briers and thorns, you will no longer traverse the hills once tilled by the hoe; they will become places for oxen to graze and sheep to trample.
