1[THE] SIN OF JUDAH [IS] INSCRIBED WITH A STYLUS OF IRON WITH A POINT OF FLINT [IS] ENGRAVED ON [THE] TABLET OF HEART THEIR AND TO [THE] HORNS OF ALTARS YOUR The Sin and Punishment of Judah 1“The sin of Judah is written with an iron stylus, engraved with a diamond point on the tablets of their hearts and on the horns of their altars.
2WHEN REMEMBER CHILDREN THEIR ALTARS THEIR AND ASHERAH POLES THEIR AT TREE[S] LUXURIANT ON HILLS <THE> HIGH 2Even their children remember their altars and Asherah poles by the green trees and on the high hills.
3MOUNTAIN MY IN THE FIELD WEALTH YOUR ALL TREASURES YOUR TO PLUNDER I WILL GIVE HIGH PLACES YOUR FOR SIN IN ALL TERRITORIES YOUR 3O My mountain in the countryside, I will give over your wealth and all your treasures as plunder, because of the sin of your high places, within all your borders.
4AND YOU WILL LET FALL AND IN <THE> YOU FROM INHERITANCE YOUR WHICH I GAVE TO <THE> YOU AND I WILL MAKE SERVE YOU <OBJ.> ENEMIES YOUR IN <THE> LAND WHICH NOT YOU KNOW FOR A FIRE YOU HAVE KINDLED IN ANGER MY UNTIL PERPETUITY IT WILL BURN 4And you yourself will relinquish the inheritance that I gave you. I will enslave you to your enemies in a land that you do not know, for you have kindled My anger; it will burn forever
5THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH [IS] CURSED THE MAN WHO HE TRUSTS IN <THE> HUMANKIND AND HE MAKES FLESH STRENGTH HIS AND FROM YAHWEH IT TURNS ASIDE HEART HIS 5This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind, who makes mere flesh his strength*NoteCloseHebrew arm and turns his heart from the LORD.
6AND HE WILL BE LIKE A BUSH IN THE DESERT PLAIN AND NOT HE WILL SEE IF IT WILL COME GOOD AND HE WILL DWELL PARCHED PLACES IN THE WILDERNESS A LAND OF SALTINESS AND NOT ANYONE DWELLS 6He will be like a shrub in the desert; he will not see when prosperity comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
7[IS] BLESSED THE MAN WHO HE TRUSTS IN YAHWEH AND HE IS YAHWEH TRUST HIS 7But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in Him.
8AND HE WILL BE LIKE A TREE PLANTED AT WATER AND [WHICH] AT A STREAM IT SENDS OUT ROOTS ITS AND NOT HE WILL SEE IF IT WILL COME HEAT AND IT WILL BE LEAFAGE ITS LUXURIANT AND IN A YEAR OF DROUGHT NOT IT WILL BE ANXIOUS AND NOT IT WILL CEASE FROM PRODUCING FRUIT 8He is like a tree planted by the waters that sends out its roots toward the stream. It does not fear when the heat comes, and its leaves are always green. It does not worry in a year of drought, nor does it cease to produce fruit.
9[IS] DECEITFUL THE HEART MORE THAN EVERYTHING AND [IS] INCURABLE IT WHO? WILL HE KNOW IT 9The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?
10I YAHWEH [AM] SEARCHING [THE] HEART [AM] TESTING [THE] KIDNEYS <AND> TO GIVE TO EVERYONE ACCORDING TO WAYS HIS ACCORDING TO [THE] FRUIT OF DEEDS HIS 10I, the LORD, search the heart; I examine the mind*NoteCloseHebrew kidneys to reward a man according to his way, by what his deeds deserve.
11A PARTRIDGE [WHICH] IT GATHERS A BROOD AND NOT IT HAS LAID [ONE WHO] MAKES WEALTH AND NOT WITH JUSTICE IN [THE] MIDDLE OF DAYS HIS IT WILL LEAVE HIM AND AT END HIS HE WILL BE A FOOL 11Like a partridge hatching eggs it did not lay is the man who makes a fortune unjustly. In the middle of his days his riches will desert him, and in the end he will be the fool.”
12[IS] A THRONE OF GLORY A HIGH PLACE FROM FIRST [TIME] [THE] PLACE OF SANCTUARY OUR Jeremiah’s Prayer for Deliverance 12A glorious throne, exalted from the beginning, is the place of our sanctuary.
13O HOPE OF ISRAEL O YAHWEH ALL [THOSE WHO] FORSAKE YOU THEY WILL BE ASHAMED AND DISLOYAL [ONES] MY IN THE LAND THEY WILL BE WRITTEN DOWN FOR THEY HAVE FORSAKEN [THE] SPRING OF WATER LIVING <OBJ.> YAHWEH 13O LORD, the hope of Israel, all who abandon You will be put to shame. All who turn away will be written in the dust, for they have abandoned the LORD, the fountain of living water.
14HEAL ME O YAHWEH SO I MAY BE HEALED SAVE ME SO LET ME BE SAVED FOR [ARE] PRAISE MY YOU 14Heal me, O LORD, and I will be healed; save me, and I will be saved, for You are my praise.
15HERE! THEY [ARE] SAYING TO ME WHERE? [IS] [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH LET IT COME PLEASE 15Behold, they keep saying to me, “Where is the word of the LORD? Let it come now!”
16AND I NOT I HAVE HASTENED FROM A SHEPHERD AFTER YOU AND A DAY INCURABLE NOT I HAVE DESIRED YOU YOU KNOW [THE] UTTERANCE OF LIPS MY BEFORE FACE YOUR IT WAS 16But I have not run away from being Your shepherd; I have not desired the day of despair. You know that the utterance of my lips was spoken in Your presence.
17MAY NOT YOU BECOME TO <THE> ME <INTO> AN OBJECT OF TERROR [ARE] REFUGE MY YOU IN A DAY OF CALAMITY 17Do not become a terror to me; You are my refuge in the day of disaster.
18LET THEM BE PUT TO SHAME PURSUERS MY AND MAY NOT I BE PUT TO SHAME I LET THEM BE DISMAYED THEY AND MAY NOT I BE DISMAYED I BRING ON THEM A DAY OF CALAMITY AND DOUBLE DESTRUCTION DESTROY THEM 18Let my persecutors be put to shame, but do not let me be put to shame. Let them be terrified, but do not let me be terrified. Bring upon them the day of disaster and shatter them with double destruction.
19THUS HE SAID YAHWEH TO ME GO AND YOU WILL STAND IN [THE] GATE OF [THE] SONS OF THE PEOPLE WHICH THEY GO IN <THE> IT [THE] KINGS OF JUDAH AND WHICH THEY GO OUT IN <THE> IT AND IN ALL [THE] GATES OF JERUSALEM Restoring the Sabbath (Nehemiah 13:15–22) 19This is what the LORD said to me: “Go and stand at the gate of the people, through which the kings of Judah go in and out; and stand at all the other gates of Jerusalem.
20AND YOU WILL SAY TO THEM HEAR [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH O KINGS OF JUDAH AND ALL JUDAH AND ALL [THE] INHABITANTS OF JERUSALEM WHO GO IN THE GATES <THE> THESE 20Say to them, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, all people of Judah and Jerusalem who enter through these gates.
21THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH TAKE HEED TO LIVES YOUR AND MAY NOT YOU CARRY A BURDEN ON [THE] DAY OF THE SABBATH AND YOU WILL BRING [IT] IN [THE] GATES OF JERUSALEM 21This is what the LORD says: Take heed for yourselves; do not carry a load or bring it through the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day.
22AND NOT YOU MUST BRING OUT A BURDEN FROM HOUSES YOUR ON [THE] DAY OF THE SABBATH AND ANY WORK NOT YOU MUST DO AND YOU WILL SET APART AS HOLY <OBJ.> [THE] DAY OF THE SABBATH JUST AS I COMMANDED <OBJ.> ANCESTORS YOUR 22You must not carry a load out of your houses or do any work on the Sabbath day, but you must keep the Sabbath day holy, just as I commanded your forefathers.
23AND NOT THEY LISTENED AND NOT THEY INCLINED <OBJ.> EAR THEIR AND THEY STIFFENED <OBJ.> NECK THEIR TO NOT TO LISTEN AND TO NOT TO ACCEPT CORRECTION 23Yet they would not listen or incline their ear, but they stiffened their necks and would not listen or receive My discipline.
24AND IT WILL BE <IF> CERTAINLY [IF] <TO LISTEN> YOU WILL LISTEN! TO ME [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH TO NOT TO BRING A BURDEN IN [THE] GATES OF THE CITY <THE> THIS ON [THE] DAY OF THE SABBATH AND TO SET APART AS HOLY <OBJ.> [THE] DAY OF THE SABBATH TO NOT TO DO ON <THE> IT ANY WORK 24If, however, you listen carefully to Me, says the LORD, and bring no load through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, and keep the Sabbath day holy, and do no work on it,
25AND THEY WILL COME IN [THE] GATES OF THE CITY <THE> THIS KINGS AND PRINCES [WHO] SIT ON [THE] THRONE OF DAVID [WHO] RIDE IN <THE> CHARIOT[S] AND ON <THE> HORSES THEY AND OFFICIALS THEIR EVERYONE OF JUDAH AND [THE] INHABITANTS OF JERUSALEM AND IT WILL REMAIN THE CITY <THE> THIS FOR EVER 25then kings and princes will enter through the gates of this city. They will sit on the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses with their officials, along with the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem, and this city will be inhabited forever.
26AND THEY WILL COME FROM [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH AND FROM ROUND ABOUT JERUSALEM AND FROM [THE] LAND OF BENJAMIN AND FROM THE SHEPHELAH AND FROM THE HILL COUNTRY AND FROM THE NEGEV [THOSE WHO] BRING BURNT OFFERING AND SACRIFICE AND GRAIN OFFERING AND FRANKINCENSE AND [THOSE WHO] BRING <OF> A THANK-OFFERING [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH 26And people will come from the cities of Judah and the places around Jerusalem, from the land of Benjamin, and from the foothills,*NoteCloseHebrew Shephelah or lowlands; that is, the western foothills of Judea the hill country, and the Negev, bringing burnt offerings and sacrifices, grain offerings and frankincense, and thank offerings to the house of the LORD.
27AND IF NOT YOU WILL LISTEN TO ME TO SET APART AS HOLY <OBJ.> [THE] DAY OF THE SABBATH AND TO NOT TO CARRY A BURDEN AND TO GO IN [THE] GATES OF JERUSALEM ON [THE] DAY OF THE SABBATH AND I WILL KINDLE A FIRE IN GATES ITS AND IT WILL CONSUME [THE] FORTRESSES OF JERUSALEM AND NOT IT WILL BE EXTINGUISHED 27But if you do not listen to Me to keep the Sabbath day holy by not carrying a load while entering the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle an unquenchable fire in its gates to consume the citadels of Jerusalem.’”
