27AND IF NOT YOU WILL LISTEN TO ME TO SET APART AS HOLY <OBJ.> [THE] DAY OF THE SABBATH AND TO NOT TO CARRY A BURDEN AND TO GO IN [THE] GATES OF JERUSALEM ON [THE] DAY OF THE SABBATH AND I WILL KINDLE A FIRE IN GATES ITS AND IT WILL CONSUME [THE] FORTRESSES OF JERUSALEM AND NOT IT WILL BE EXTINGUISHED 27But if you do not listen to Me to keep the Sabbath day holy by not carrying a load while entering the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle an unquenchable fire in its gates to consume the citadels of Jerusalem.’”
1THE WORD WHICH IT CAME TO JEREMIAH FROM WITH YAHWEH <TO> SAYING The Potter and the Clay 1This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD:
2ARISE AND YOU WILL GO DOWN [THE] HOUSE OF THE POTTER AND THERE <TOWARDS> I WILL CAUSE TO HEAR YOU <OBJ.> WORDS MY 2“Go down at once to the potter’s house, and there I will give you My message.”
3AND I WENT DOWN [THE] HOUSE OF THE POTTER AND THERE! - HE [WAS] DOING WORK ON THE STONES 3So I went down to the potter’s house and saw him working at the wheel.
4AND IT WAS SPOILED THE VESSEL WHICH HE [WAS] MAKING WITH THE CLAY IN [THE] HAND OF THE POTTER AND HE WOULD RETURN AND HE MADE IT A VESSEL ANOTHER JUST AS IT WAS PLEASING IN [THE] EYES OF THE POTTER TO DO 4But the vessel that he was shaping from the clay became flawed in his hand; so he formed it into another vessel, as it seemed best for him to do.
6¿ LIKE THE POTTER <THE> THIS NOT AM I ABLE TO DO TO <THE> YOU O HOUSE OF ISRAEL [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH HERE! LIKE THE CLAY IN [THE] HAND OF THE POTTER SO YOU [ARE] IN HAND MY O HOUSE OF ISRAEL 6“O house of Israel, declares the LORD, can I not treat you as this potter treats his clay? Just like clay in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel.
7A MOMENT I WILL SPEAK ON A NATION AND ON A KINGDOM TO PLUCK UP AND TO PULL DOWN AND TO DESTROY 7At any time I might announce that a nation or kingdom will be uprooted, torn down, and destroyed.
8AND IT WILL TURN AWAY THE NATION <THE> THAT FROM EVIL ITS WHICH I HAD SPOKEN ON IT AND I WILL RELENT ON THE CALAMITY WHICH I HAD PLANNED TO DO TO <THE> IT 8But if that nation I warned turns from its evil, then I will relent of the disaster I had planned to bring
9AND A MOMENT I WILL SPEAK ON A NATION AND ON A KINGDOM TO BUILD UP AND TO PLANT 9And if at another time I announce that I will build up and establish a nation or kingdom,
10AND IT WILL DO THE EVIL IN VIEW MY TO NOT TO LISTEN TO VOICE MY AND I WILL RELENT ON THE GOOD WHICH I HAD SAID TO DO GOOD TO <OBJ.> IT 10and if it does evil in My sight and does not listen to My voice, then I will relent of the good I had intended for it.
11AND THEREFORE SAY PLEASE TO EVERYONE OF JUDAH AND TO [THE] INHABITANTS OF JERUSALEM <TO> SAYING THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH HERE! I [AM] ABOUT TO FASHION ON YOU CALAMITY AND [AM] ABOUT TO PLAN ON YOU A PLAN TURN BACK PLEASE EVERYONE FROM WAY HIS <THE> WICKED AND MAKE GOOD WAYS YOUR AND DEEDS YOUR 11Now therefore, tell the men of Judah and the residents of Jerusalem that this is what the LORD says: ‘Behold, I am planning a disaster for you and devising a plan against you. Turn now, each of you, from your evil ways, and correct your ways and deeds.’
12AND THEY SAY DESPAIRING FOR AFTER OWN PLANS OUR WE WILL WALK AND EVERYONE [THE] STUBBORNNESS OF HEART HIS <THE> WICKED WE WILL ACT 12But they will reply, ‘It is hopeless. We will follow our own plans, and each of us will act according to the stubbornness of his evil heart.’”
13<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH ASK PLEASE AMONG THE NATIONS WHO? HAS HE HEARD LIKE THESE [THINGS] A HORRIBLE [THING] SHE HAS DONE EXCEEDINGLY [THE] VIRGIN OF ISRAEL 13Therefore this is what the LORD says: “Inquire among the nations: Who has ever heard things like these? Virgin Israel has done a most terrible thing.
14¿ DOES IT LEAVE FROM [THE] ROCK OF [THE] FIELD [THE] SNOW OF LEBANON OR? ARE THEY PLUCKED UP WATERS STRANGE COOL FLOWING 14Does the snow of Lebanon ever leave its rocky slopes? Or do its cool waters flowing from a distance ever run dry?
15FOR THEY HAVE FORGOTTEN ME PEOPLE MY TO <THE> FALSEHOOD THEY MAKE SMOKE AND THEY HAVE CAUSED TO STUMBLE THEM IN WAYS THEIR PATHS OF ANTIQUITY TO WALK PATHS A WAY NOT BUILT UP 15Yet My people have forgotten Me. They burn incense to worthless idols that make them stumble in their ways, leaving the ancient roads to walk on rutted bypaths instead of on the highway.
16TO MAKE LAND THEIR INTO A WASTE WHISTLING OF PERPETUITY EVERY [ONE WHO] PASSES BY AT IT HE WILL BE APPALLED AND HE MAY WAG WITH HEAD HIS 16They have made their land a desolation, a perpetual object of scorn; all who pass by will be appalled and shake their heads.
17LIKE A WIND OF [THE] EAST I WILL SCATTER THEM <TO> BEFORE AN ENEMY BACK AND NOT FACE I WILL SHOW THEM ON [THE] DAY OF DISASTER THEIR 17I will scatter them before the enemy like the east wind. I will show them My back and not My face in the day of their calamity.”
18AND PEOPLE SAID COME SO LET US PLAN ON JEREMIAH PLANS FOR NOT IT WILL BE LOST INSTRUCTION FROM [THE] PRIEST AND COUNSEL FROM [THE] WISE AND WORD FROM [THE] PROPHET COME AND LET US ATTACK HIM WITH THE TONGUE AND MAY NOT WE PAY ATTENTION TO ALL WORDS HIS Another Plot against Jeremiah (Jeremiah 11:18–23) 18Then some said, “Come, let us make plans against Jeremiah, for the law will never be lost to the priest, nor counsel to the wise, nor an oracle to the prophet. Come, let us denounce him and pay no heed to any of his words.”
19BE ATTENTIVE! O YAHWEH TO ME AND LISTEN TO [THE] VOICE OF OPPONENTS MY 19Attend to me, O LORD. Hear what my accusers are saying!
20¿ WILL IT BE REPAID IN PLACE OF GOOD EVIL FOR THEY HAVE DUG A PIT FOR SELF MY REMEMBER STANDING MY <TO> BEFORE YOU TO SPEAK ON THEM GOOD TO TURN BACK <OBJ.> RAGE YOUR FROM <THE> THEM 20Should good be repaid with evil? Yet they have dug a pit for me. Remember how I stood before You to speak good on their behalf, to turn Your wrath from them.
21<TO> THEREFORE GIVE <OBJ.> CHILDREN THEIR TO <THE> FAMINE AND POUR THEM OVER [THE] HANDS OF [THE] SWORD SO THEY MAY BECOME WIVES THEIR CHILDLESS AND WIDOWS AND MEN THEIR MAY THEY BE [THE] SLAIN OF DEATH YOUNG MEN THEIR [THOSE] STRUCK DOWN OF [THE] SWORD IN <THE> BATTLE 21Therefore, hand their children over to famine; pour out the power of the sword upon them. Let their wives become childless and widowed; let their husbands be slain by disease, their young men struck down by the sword in battle.
22MAY IT BE HEARD A CRY OF DISTRESS FROM HOUSES THEIR IF YOU WILL BRING ON THEM A MARAUDING BAND SUDDENLY FOR THEY HAVE DUG A PIT TO CAPTURE ME AND SNARES THEY HAVE HIDDEN FOR FEET MY 22Let a cry be heard from their houses when You suddenly bring raiders against them, for they have dug a pit to capture me and have hidden snares for my feet.
23AND YOU O YAHWEH YOU KNOW <OBJ.> ALL PLAN THEIR ON ME FOR <THE> DEATH MAY NOT YOU ATONE ON INIQUITY THEIR AND SIN THEIR FROM TO BEFORE YOU MAY NOT YOU WIPE OUT AND LET THEM BE OVERTHROWN <TO> BEFORE YOU IN [THE] TIME OF ANGER YOUR DO WITH <THE> THEM 23But You, O LORD, know all their deadly plots against me. Do not wipe out their guilt or blot out their sin from Your sight. Let them be overthrown before You; deal with them in the time of Your anger.
