26ALSO [THE] OFFSPRING OF JACOB AND DAVID SERVANT MY I WILL REJECT FROM TAKING ANY OF OFFSPRING HIS RULERS TO [THE] OFFSPRING OF ABRAHAM ISAAC AND JACOB FOR I WILL CAUSE TO TURN BACK <OBJ.> CAPTIVITY THEIR AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON THEM 26then I would also reject the descendants of Jacob and of My servant David, so as not to take from his descendants rulers over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. For I will restore them from captivity*NoteCloseOr restore their fortunes and will have compassion on them.”
1THE WORD WHICH IT CAME TO JEREMIAH FROM WITH YAHWEH AND NEBUCHADNEZZAR [THE] KING OF BABYLON AND ALL ARMY HIS AND ALL [THE] KINGDOMS OF [THE] EARTH [THE] RULE OF HAND HIS AND ALL THE PEOPLES [WERE] FIGHTING ON JERUSALEM AND ON ALL CITIES ITS <TO> SAYING A Prophecy against Zedekiah 1This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD when Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, all his army, all the earthly kingdoms under his control, and all the other nations were fighting against Jerusalem and all its surrounding cities.
2THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL GO AND YOU WILL SAY TO ZEDEKIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH AND YOU WILL SAY TO HIM THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO GIVE <OBJ.> THE CITY <THE> THIS IN [THE] HAND OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON AND HE WILL BURN IT WITH <THE> FIRE 2The LORD, the God of Israel, told Jeremiah to go and speak to Zedekiah king of Judah and tell him that this is what the LORD says: “Behold, I am about to deliver this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will burn it down.
3AND YOU NOT YOU WILL ESCAPE FROM HAND HIS FOR CERTAINLY <TO CAPTURE> YOU WILL BE CAPTURED AND IN HAND HIS YOU WILL BE GIVEN AND EYES YOUR <OBJ.> [THE] EYES OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON THEY WILL SEE AND MOUTH HIS WITH MOUTH YOUR IT WILL SPEAK AND BABYLON YOU WILL GO 3And you yourself will not escape his grasp, but will surely be captured and delivered into his hand. You will see the king of Babylon eye to eye and speak with him face to face; and you will go to Babylon.
4NEVERTHELESS HEAR [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH O ZEDEKIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH ON YOU NOT YOU WILL DIE BY THE SWORD 4Yet hear the word of the LORD, O Zedekiah king of Judah. This is what the LORD says concerning you: You will not die by the sword;
5IN PEACE YOU WILL DIE AND LIKE [THE] BURNINGS OF FATHERS YOUR THE KINGS <THE> FORMER WHO THEY WERE <TO> BEFORE YOU SO PEOPLE WILL BURN FOR <THE> YOU AND ALAS! O LORD THEY WILL MOURN FOR <THE> YOU FOR A PROMISE I I HAVE SPOKEN [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 5you will die in peace. As spices were burned for your fathers, the former kings who preceded you, so people will burn spices for you and lament ‘Alas, O master!’ For I Myself have spoken this word, declares the LORD.”
6AND HE SPOKE JEREMIAH THE PROPHET TO ZEDEKIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH <OBJ.> ALL THE WORDS <THE> THESE IN JERUSALEM 6In Jerusalem, then, Jeremiah the prophet relayed all these words to Zedekiah king of Judah
7AND [THE] ARMY OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON [WERE] FIGHTING ON JERUSALEM AND ON ALL [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH WHICH WERE LEFT AGAINST LACHISH AND AGAINST AZEKAH FOR THEY THEY REMAINED AMONG [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH CITIES OF FORTIFICATION 7as the army of the king of Babylon was fighting against Jerusalem and the remaining cities of Judah— against Lachish and Azekah. For these were the only fortified cities remaining in Judah.
8THE WORD WHICH IT CAME TO JEREMIAH FROM WITH YAHWEH AFTER MADE THE KING ZEDEKIAH A COVENANT WITH ALL THE PEOPLE WHICH [WAS] IN JERUSALEM TO PROCLAIM TO <THE> THEM LIBERTY Freedom for Hebrew Slaves 8After King Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people in Jerusalem to proclaim liberty, the word came to Jeremiah from the LORD
9TO LET GO EVERYONE <OBJ.> [MALE] SLAVE HIS AND EVERYONE <OBJ.> FEMALE SLAVE HIS <THE> HEBREW [MASC] AND <THE> HEBREW [FEM] FREE [PEOPLE] TO NOT TO WORK BY <THE> THEM BY A JEW BROTHER HIS ANYONE 9that each man should free his Hebrew slaves, both male and female, and no one should hold his fellow Jew in bondage.
10AND THEY OBEYED ALL THE OFFICIALS AND ALL THE PEOPLE WHO THEY WENT IN THE COVENANT TO LET GO EVERYONE <OBJ.> [MALE] SLAVE HIS AND EVERYONE <OBJ.> FEMALE SLAVE HIS FREE [PEOPLE] TO NOT TO WORK BY <THE> THEM AGAIN AND THEY OBEYED AND THEY LET [THEM] GO 10So all the officials and all the people who entered into this covenant agreed that they would free their menservants and maidservants and no longer hold them in bondage. They obeyed and released them,
11AND THEY TURNED BACK AFTER THUS AND THEY TOOK BACK <OBJ.> THE [MALE] SLAVES AND <OBJ.> THE FEMALE SLAVES WHOM THEY HAD LET GO FREE [PEOPLE] AND THEY SUBJUGATED THEM FOR [MALE] SLAVES AND FOR FEMALE SLAVES 11but later they changed their minds and took back the menservants and maidservants they had freed, and they forced them to become slaves again.
12AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO JEREMIAH FROM WITH YAHWEH <TO> SAYING 12Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
13THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL I I MADE A COVENANT WITH ANCESTORS YOUR ON [THE] DAY BROUGHT OUT I <OBJ.> THEM FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT FROM A HOUSE OF SLAVES <TO> SAYING 13“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: I made a covenant with your forefathers when I brought them out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, saying:
14FROM [THE] END OF SEVEN YEARS YOU WILL LET GO EVERYONE <OBJ.> BROTHER HIS <THE> HEBREW WHO HE WILL SELL HIMSELF TO <THE> YOU AND HE WILL SERVE YOU SIX YEARS AND YOU WILL LET GO HIM A FREE [PERSON] FROM WITH <THE> YOU AND NOT THEY LISTENED ANCESTORS YOUR TO ME AND NOT THEY INCLINED <OBJ.> EAR THEIR 14Every seventh year, each of you must free his Hebrew brother who has sold himself to you. He may serve you six years, but then you must let him go free. But your fathers did not listen or incline their ear.
15AND YOU TURNED BACK YOU THIS DAY AND YOU DID <OBJ.> THE RIGHT IN VIEW MY BY PROCLAIMING LIBERTY EVERYONE TO NEIGHBOR HIS AND YOU MADE A COVENANT <TO> BEFORE ME IN THE HOUSE WHICH IT IS CALLED NAME MY ON IT 15Recently you repented and did what pleased Me; each of you proclaimed freedom for his neighbor. You made a covenant before Me in the house that bears My Name.
16AND YOU TURNED BACK AND YOU PROFANED <OBJ.> NAME MY AND YOU TOOK BACK EVERYONE <OBJ.> [MALE] SLAVE HIS AND EVERYONE <OBJ.> FEMALE SLAVE HIS WHOM YOU HAD LET GO FREE [PEOPLE] TO DESIRE THEIR AND YOU SUBJUGATED <OBJ.> THEM TO BECOME OF YOU <INTO> [MALE] SLAVES AND <INTO> FEMALE SLAVES 16But now you have changed your minds and profaned My name. Each of you has taken back the menservants and maidservants whom you had set at liberty to go wherever they wanted, and you have again forced them to be your slaves.
17<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH YOU NOT YOU HAVE LISTENED TO ME BY PROCLAIMING LIBERTY EVERYONE TO BROTHER HIS AND EVERYONE TO NEIGHBOR HIS HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO PROCLAIM TO <THE> YOU LIBERTY [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH TO THE SWORD TO <THE> PESTILENCE AND TO <THE> FAMINE AND I WILL MAKE <OBJ.> YOU INTO A TERROR TO ALL [THE] KINGDOMS OF THE EARTH 17Therefore this is what the LORD says: You have not obeyed Me; you have not proclaimed freedom, each man for his brother and for his neighbor. So now I proclaim freedom for you, declares the LORD— freedom to fall by sword, by plague, and by famine! I will make you a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.
18AND I WILL MAKE <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE TRANSGRESSED <OBJ.> COVENANT MY WHO NOT THEY HAVE CARRIED OUT <OBJ.> [THE] WORDS OF THE COVENANT WHICH THEY MADE <TO> BEFORE ME THE CALF WHICH THEY CUT INTO TWO [PIECES] AND THEY PASSED BETWEEN PIECES ITS 18And those who have transgressed My covenant and have not fulfilled the terms of the covenant they made before Me, I will treat like the calf they cut in two in order to pass between its pieces.
19[THE] OFFICIALS OF JUDAH AND [THE] OFFICIALS OF JERUSALEM THE COURT-OFFICIALS AND THE PRIESTS AND ALL [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND WHO PASSED BETWEEN [THE] PIECES OF THE CALF 19The officials of Judah and Jerusalem, the court officials, the priests, and all the people of the land who passed between the pieces of the calf,
20AND I WILL GIVE <OBJ.> THEM IN [THE] HAND OF ENEMIES THEIR AND IN [THE] HAND OF [THOSE WHO] SEEK LIFE THEIR AND IT WILL BECOME CORPSE THEIR <INTO> FOOD FOR [THE] BIRD[S] OF THE HEAVENS AND FOR [THE] ANIMAL[S] OF THE EARTH 20I will deliver into the hands of their enemies who seek their lives. Their corpses will become food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth.
21AND <OBJ.> ZEDEKIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH AND <OBJ.> OFFICIALS HIS I WILL GIVE IN [THE] HAND OF ENEMIES THEIR AND IN [THE] HAND OF [THOSE WHO] SEEK LIFE THEIR AND IN [THE] HAND OF [THE] ARMY OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON WHICH HAVE GONE UP FROM ON <THE> YOU 21And I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah and his officials into the hands of their enemies who seek their lives, to the army of the king of Babylon that had withdrawn from you.
22HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO GIVE COMMAND [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH AND I WILL BRING BACK THEM TO THE CITY <THE> THIS AND THEY WILL FIGHT ON IT AND THEY WILL CAPTURE IT AND THEY WILL BURN IT WITH <THE> FIRE AND <OBJ.> [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH I WILL MAKE A WASTE FROM NOT INHABITANT 22Behold, I am going to give the command, declares the LORD, and I will bring them back to this city. They will fight against it, capture it, and burn it down. And I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.”
