1AND HE ANSWERED ELIPHAZ THE TEMANITE AND HE SAID Eliphaz: Job Does Not Fear God 1Then Eliphaz the Temanite replied:
2¿ A WISE [PERSON] DOES HE ANSWER KNOWLEDGE OF WIND SO MAY HE FILL? EAST WIND BELLY HIS 2“Does a wise man answer with empty counsel or fill his belly with the hot east wind?
3DOES HE ARGUE? WITH A WORD [WHICH] NOT IT IS OF USE AND WORDS [WHICH] NOT ANYONE PROFITS BY THEM 3Should he argue with useless words or speeches that serve no purpose
4ALSO YOU YOU ANNUL FEAR SO YOU MAY DIMINISH MEDITATION <TO> BEFORE GOD 4But you even undermine the fear of God and hinder meditation before Him.
5FOR IT TEACHES INIQUITY YOUR MOUTH YOUR SO YOU MAY CHOOSE [THE] TONGUE OF CRAFTY [PEOPLE] 5For your iniquity instructs your mouth, and you choose the language of the crafty.
6IT CONDEMNS AS GUILTY YOU OWN MOUTH YOUR AND NOT I AND OWN LIPS YOUR THEY TESTIFY AGAINST YOU 6Your own mouth, not mine, condemns you; your own lips testify against you.
7¿ FIRST HUMAN BEING WERE YOU BORN AND <TO> BEFORE [THE] HILLS WERE YOU BROUGHT FORTH? 7Were you the first man ever born? Were you brought forth before the hills?
8¿ IN [THE] COUNCIL OF GOD DO YOU LISTEN AND YOU MAY RESTRAIN? TO YOURSELF WISDOM 8Do you listen in on the council of God or limit wisdom to yourself?
9WHAT? DO YOU KNOW AND NOT WE KNOW DO YOU UNDERSTAND? AND NOT [IS] WITH US IT 9What do you know that we do not? What do you understand that is not clear to us?
10BOTH [THE] GRAY HAIRED AS WELL AS [THE] AGED [ARE] AMONG US [THOSE] OLD MORE THAN FATHER YOUR DAYS 10Both the gray-haired and the aged are on our side— men much older than your father.
11¿ [TOO] LITTLE FOR YOU [ARE] [THE] CONSOLATIONS OF GOD AND A WORD TO <THE> GENTLENESS WITH YOU 11Are the consolations of God not enough for you, even words spoken gently to you?
12WHY? DOES IT CARRY AWAY YOU HEART YOUR AND WHY? DO THEY FLASH! EYES YOUR 12Why has your heart carried you away, and why do your eyes flash,*NoteCloseOr blink
13THAT YOU WILL TURN AGAINST GOD SPIRIT YOUR AND YOU WILL BRING OUT FROM MOUTH YOUR WORDS 13so that you turn your spirit against God and pour such words from your mouth?
14WHAT? [IS] A PERSON THAT HE WILL BE PURE AND THAT HE WILL BE RIGHTEOUS [ONE] BORN OF A WOMAN 14What is man, that he should be pure, or one born of woman, that he should be righteous?
15THERE! IN HOLY [ONES] HIS NOT HE TRUSTS AND [THE] HEAVENS NOT THEY ARE PURE IN VIEW HIS 15If God puts no trust in His holy ones, if even the heavens are not pure in His eyes,
16INDEED? FOR [ONE WHO] IS ABHORRENT AND [ONE WHO] IS CORRUPT A PERSON [WHO] DRINKS LIKE <THE> WATER UNRIGHTEOUSNESS 16how much less man, who is vile and corrupt, who drinks injustice like water?
17I WILL TELL YOU LISTEN TO ME AND WHAT I HAVE SEEN AND I WILL RECOUNT 17Listen to me and I will inform you. I will describe what I have seen,
18[THAT] WHICH WISE [PEOPLE] THEY HAVE TOLD AND NOT THEY HAVE HIDDEN FROM ANCESTORS THEIR 18what was declared by wise men and was not concealed from their fathers,
19TO THEM TO ALONE THEM IT WAS GIVEN THE LAND AND NOT HE PASSED A STRANGER IN MIDST THEIR 19to whom alone the land was given when no foreigner passed among them.
20ALL [THE] DAYS OF A WICKED [PERSON] HE [IS] WRITHING IN PAIN AND [THE] NUMBER OF YEARS [WHICH] THEY HAVE BEEN STORED UP FOR <THE> RUTHLESS [PERSON] 20A wicked man writhes in pain all his days; only a few years are reserved for the ruthless.
21[THE] SOUND OF DREAD<S> [IS] IN EARS HIS IN <THE> PEACE A DESTROYER HE WILL COME TO HIM 21Sounds of terror fill his ears; in his prosperity the destroyer attacks him.
22NOT HE BELIEVES TO RETURN FROM DARKNESS AND [IS] WATCHED HE TO [THE] SWORD 22He despairs of his return from darkness; he is marked for the sword.
23[IS] WANDERING HE FOR <THE> FOOD WHERE? HE KNOWS THAT [HAS BEEN] PREPARED IN HAND HIS A DAY OF DARKNESS 23He wanders about as food for vultures; he knows the day of darkness is at hand.
24THEY TERRIFY HIM ANXIETY AND DISTRESS IT OVERPOWERS HIM LIKE A KING READY FOR <THE> BATTLE 24Distress and anguish terrify him, overwhelming him like a king poised to attack.
25FOR HE HAS STRETCHED OUT AGAINST GOD HAND HIS AND TO [THE] ALMIGHTY HE BEHAVES PROUDLY 25For he has stretched out his hand against God and has vaunted himself against the Almighty,
26HE RUNS AGAINST HIM WITH A NECK WITH [THE] THICKNESS OF [THE] BOSSES OF SHIELDS HIS 26rushing headlong at Him with a thick, studded shield.
27FOR HE HAS COVERED FACE HIS WITH FAT HIS AND HE HAS MADE FAT ON LOINS 27Though his face is covered with fat and his waistline bulges with flesh,
28AND HE DWELT CITIES DESTROYED HOUSES [WHICH] NOT PEOPLE WILL DWELL <FOR> THEMSELVES WHICH THEY ARE DESTINED FOR HEAPS OF STONES 28he will dwell in ruined cities, in abandoned houses destined to become rubble.
29NOT HE WILL BE RICH AND NOT IT WILL ENDURE WEALTH HIS AND NOT IT WILL STRETCH OUT TO THE LAND PROPERTY THEIR 29He will no longer be rich; his wealth will not endure. His possessions will not overspread the land.
30NOT HE WILL DEPART FROM DARKNESS YOUNG SHOOT[S] HIS IT WILL DRY UP A FLAME SO HE MAY DEPART BY [THE] BREATH OF MOUTH HIS 30He will not escape from the darkness; the flame will wither his shoots, and the breath of God’s mouth will carry him away.
31MAY NOT HE TRUST IN <THE> WORTHLESSNESS HE HAS BEEN LED ASTRAY FOR WORTHLESSNESS IT WILL BE RECOMPENSE HIS 31Let him not deceive himself with trust in emptiness, for emptiness will be his reward.
32ON NOT DAY HIS IT WILL BE COMPLETED AND PALM BRANCH HIS NOT IT WILL GROW LUXURIANT 32It will be paid in full before his time, and his branch will not flourish.
33HE WILL WRONG LIKE <THE> VINE UNRIPE GRAPE[S] HIS AND HE WILL SHED LIKE <THE> OLIVE TREE BLOSSOM HIS 33He will be like a vine stripped of its unripe grapes, like an olive tree that sheds its blossoms.
34FOR A COMPANY OF [THE] GODLESS [IS] BARREN AND FIRE IT CONSUMES [THE] TENTS OF A BRIBE 34For the company of the godless will be barren, and fire will consume the tents of bribery.
35THEY CONCEIVE TROUBLE AND THEY GIVE BIRTH TO WICKEDNESS AND BELLY THEIR IT PREPARES DECEIT 35They conceive trouble and give birth to evil; their womb is pregnant with deceit.”
