10AND NOT THEY DISPOSSESSED <OBJ.> THE CANAANITE[S] WHO DWELT IN GEZER AND HE HAS DWELT THE CANAANITE[S] IN [THE] MIDST OF EPHRAIM UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS AND HE BECAME <INTO> A SLAVE GANG OF LABORING 10But they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer. So the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites to this day, but they are forced laborers.
1AND IT BELONGED THE LOT TO [THE] TRIBE OF MANASSEH FOR HE [WAS] [THE] FIRSTBORN OF JOSEPH TO MAKIR [THE] FIRSTBORN OF MANASSEH [THE] FATHER OF <THE> GILEAD FOR HE HE WAS A MAN OF WAR AND IT BELONGED TO <THE> HIM <THE> GILEAD AND <THE> BASHAN Manasseh’s Western Inheritance 1Now this was the allotment for the tribe of Manasseh as Joseph’s firstborn son, namely for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh and father of the Gileadites, who had received Gilead and Bashan because Machir was a man of war.
2AND IT BELONGED TO [THE] DESCENDANTS OF MANASSEH WHO REMAINED TO CLANS THEIR TO [THE] DESCENDANTS OF ABIEZER AND TO [THE] DESCENDANTS OF HELEK AND TO [THE] DESCENDANTS OF ASRIEL AND TO [THE] DESCENDANTS OF SHECHEM AND TO [THE] DESCENDANTS OF HEPHER AND TO [THE] DESCENDANTS OF SHEMIDA THESE [WERE] [THE] DESCENDANTS OF MANASSEH [THE] SON OF JOSEPH THE MALES TO CLANS THEIR 2So this allotment was for the rest of the descendants of Manasseh the clans of Abiezer,*NoteCloseAbiezer is a variant of Iezer; see Numbers 26:30. Helek, Asriel, Shechem, Hepher, and Shemida. These are the other male descendants of the clans of Manasseh son of Joseph.
3AND TO ZELOPHEHAD [THE] SON OF HEPHER [THE] SON OF GILEAD [THE] SON OF MAKIR [THE] SON OF MANASSEH NOT THEY BELONGED TO <THE> HIM SONS THAT EXCEPT DAUGHTERS AND THESE [ARE] [THE] NAMES OF DAUGHTERS HIS MAHLAH AND NOAH HOGLAH MILCAH AND TIRZAH 3But Zelophehad son of Hepher (the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh) had no sons but only daughters. These are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
4AND THEY DREW NEAR <TO> BEFORE ELEAZAR THE PRIEST AND <TO> BEFORE JOSHUA [THE] SON OF NUN AND <TO> BEFORE THE LEADERS <TO> SAYING YAHWEH HE COMMANDED <OBJ.> MOSES TO GIVE TO <THE> US AN INHERITANCE IN AMONG BROTHERS OUR AND HE GAVE TO <THE> THEM TO [THE] MOUTH OF YAHWEH AN INHERITANCE IN AMONG [THE] BROTHERS OF FATHER THEIR 4They approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders, and said, “The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers.” So Joshua gave them an inheritance among their father’s brothers, in keeping with the command of the LORD.
5AND THEY FELL [THE] ALLOTTED PORTIONS OF MANASSEH TEN <TO> APART FROM [THE] LAND OF <THE> GILEAD AND <THE> BASHAN WHICH [IS] FROM [THE] OTHER SIDE OF THE JORDAN 5Thus ten shares fell to Manasseh, in addition to the land of Gilead and Bashan beyond the Jordan,
6FOR [THE] DAUGHTERS OF MANASSEH THEY INHERITED AN INHERITANCE IN AMONG SONS HIS AND [THE] LAND OF <THE> GILEAD IT BELONGED TO [THE] DESCENDANTS OF MANASSEH WHO REMAINED 6because the daughters of Manasseh received an inheritance among his sons. And the land of Gilead belonged to the rest of the sons of Manasseh.
7AND IT WAS [THE] BORDER OF MANASSEH FROM ASHER <THE> MICMETHATH WHICH [IS] ON [THE] FACE OF SHECHEM AND IT GOES THE BORDER TO THE SOUTH TO [THE] INHABITANTS OF EN TAPPUAH 7Now the border of Manasseh went from Asher to Michmethath near Shechem, then southward to include the inhabitants of En-tappuah.
8TO MANASSEH IT BELONGED [THE] LAND OF TAPPUAH AND TAPPUAH TO [THE] BORDER OF MANASSEH [BELONGED] TO [THE] DESCENDANTS OF EPHRAIM 8The region of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh, but Tappuah itself, on the border of Manasseh, belonged to Ephraim.
9AND IT GOES DOWN THE BORDER [THE] WADI OF KANAH [THE] SOUTH TOWARDS TO THE WADI CITIES <THE> THESE [BELONGED] TO EPHRAIM IN AMONG [THE] CITIES OF MANASSEH AND [THE] BORDER OF MANASSEH [WAS] FROM [THE] NORTH OF THE WADI AND IT WAS EXTREMITIES ITS THE SEA TOWARDS 9From there the border continued southward to the Brook of Kanah. There were cities belonging to Ephraim among the cities of Manasseh, but the border of Manasseh was on the north side of the brook and ended at the Sea.*NoteCloseThat is, the Mediterranean Sea, also called the Great Sea; also in verse 10
10SOUTH -WARD [BELONGED] TO EPHRAIM AND NORTH -WARD [BELONGED] TO MANASSEH AND IT WAS THE SEA BORDER ITS AND <ON> ASHER THEY TOUCH! FROM [THE] NORTH AND <ON> ISSACHAR FROM [THE] EAST 10Ephraim’s territory was to the south, and Manasseh’s was to the north, having the Sea as its border and adjoining Asher on the north and Issachar on the east.
11AND IT BELONGED TO MANASSEH IN ISSACHAR AND IN ASHER BETH SHEAN AND DAUGHTERS ITS AND IBLEAM AND DAUGHTERS ITS AND <OBJ.> [THE] INHABITANTS OF DOR AND DAUGHTERS ITS AND [THE] INHABITANTS OF EN- -DOR AND DAUGHTERS ITS AND [THE] INHABITANTS OF TAANACH AND DAUGHTERS ITS AND [THE] INHABITANTS OF MEGIDDO AND DAUGHTERS ITS [THE] THREE OF <THE> NAPHETH 11Within Issachar and Asher Manasseh was assigned Beth-shean Ibleam, Dor (that is, Naphath), Endor Taanach and Megiddo, each with their surrounding settlements.
12AND NOT THEY WERE ABLE [THE] DESCENDANTS OF MANASSEH TO TAKE POSSESSION OF <OBJ.> THE CITIES <THE> THESE AND HE WAS DETERMINED THE CANAANITE[S] TO DWELL IN THE LAND <THE> THIS 12But the descendants of Manasseh were unable to occupy these cities, because the Canaanites were determined to stay in this land.
13AND IT WAS THAT THEY BECAME STRONG [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND THEY MADE <OBJ.> THE CANAANITE[S] <INTO> FORCED LABOR AND CERTAINLY <TO DISPOSSESS> NOT HE DISPOSSESSED HIM 13However, when the Israelites grew stronger, they put the Canaanites to forced labor; but they failed to drive them out completely.
14AND THEY SPOKE [THE] DESCENDANTS OF JOSEPH WITH JOSHUA <TO> SAYING WHY? HAVE YOU GIVEN TO <THE> ME AN INHERITANCE A LOT ONE AND A PORTION ONE AND I [AM] A PEOPLE NUMEROUS TO THAT UNTIL THUS HE HAS BLESSED ME YAHWEH 14Then the sons of Joseph said to Joshua, “Why have you given us only one portion as an inheritance? We have many people, because the LORD has blessed us abundantly.”
15AND HE SAID TO THEM JOSHUA IF [ARE] A PEOPLE NUMEROUS YOU GO UP FOR <THE> YOURSELF THE FOREST TOWARDS AND YOU WILL CUT DOWN FOR <THE> YOURSELF THERE IN [THE] LAND OF THE PERIZZITE[S] AND THE REPHAITES THAT IT IS NARROW FOR <THE> YOU [THE] HILL COUNTRY OF EPHRAIM 15Joshua answered them, “If you have so many people that the hill country of Ephraim is too small for you, go to the forest and clear for yourself an area in the land of the Perizzites and the Rephaim.”
16AND THEY SAID [THE] DESCENDANTS OF JOSEPH NOT IT WILL BE FOUND FOR <THE> US THE HILL COUNTRY AND CHARIOTRY OF IRON [IS] AMONG ALL THE CANAANITE[S] WHO DWELLS IN [THE] LAND OF THE VALLEY TO [THOSE] WHO [ARE] IN BETH SHEAN AND DAUGHTERS ITS AND TO [THOSE] WHO [ARE] IN [THE] VALLEY OF JEZREEL 16“The hill country is not enough for us,” they replied, “and all the Canaanites who live in the valley have iron chariots, both in Beth-shean with its towns and in the Valley of Jezreel.”
17AND HE SAID JOSHUA TO [THE] HOUSE OF JOSEPH TO EPHRAIM AND TO MANASSEH <TO> SAYING [ARE] A PEOPLE NUMEROUS YOU AND STRENGTH GREAT [BELONGS] TO <THE> YOU NOT IT WILL BELONG TO <THE> YOU A LOT ONE 17So Joshua said to the house of Joseph— to Ephraim and Manasseh— “You have many people and great strength. You shall not have just one allotment,
18FOR [THE] HILL COUNTRY IT WILL BELONG TO <THE> YOU FOR [IS] FOREST IT AND YOU WILL CUT DOWN IT AND IT WILL BELONG TO <THE> YOU EXTREMITIES ITS FOR YOU WILL DISPOSSESS <OBJ.> THE CANAANITE[S] FOR CHARIOTRY OF IRON [BELONGS] TO <THE> HIM THAT [IS] STRONG HE 18because the hill country will be yours as well. It is a forest; clear it, and its farthest limits will be yours. Although the Canaanites have iron chariots and although they are strong, you can drive them out
