24AND THEY SAID TO JOSHUA THAT HE HAS GIVEN YAHWEH IN HAND OUR <OBJ.> ALL THE LAND AND ALSO THEY HAVE MELTED AWAY ALL [THE] INHABITANTS OF THE LAND <FROM> BECAUSE OF US 24“The LORD has surely delivered the entire land into our hands,” they said to Joshua. “Indeed, all who dwell in the land are melting in fear of us.”
1AND HE ROSE EARLY JOSHUA IN THE MORNING AND THEY SET OUT FROM <THE> SHITTIM AND THEY CAME TO THE JORDAN HE AND ALL [THE] PEOPLE ISRAEL AND THEY STAYED THERE BEFORE THEY PASSED OVER Crossing the Jordan 1Early the next morning Joshua got up and left Shittim*NoteCloseOr Acacia Grove with all the Israelites. They went as far as the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over.
2AND IT WAS FROM [THE] END OF THREE DAYS AND THEY PASSED THE OFFICERS IN [THE] MIDST OF THE CAMP 2After three days the officers went through the camp
3AND THEY COMMANDED <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE <TO> SAYING WHEN SEE YOU <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF [THE] COVENANT OF YAHWEH GOD YOUR AND THE PRIESTS THE LEVITES CARRYING <OBJ.> IT AND YOU YOU WILL SET OUT FROM PLACE YOUR AND YOU WILL GO BEHIND IT 3and commanded the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God being carried by the Levitical priests, you are to set out from your positions and follow it.
4NEVERTHELESS A DISTANCE IT WILL BE BETWEEN YOU AND BETWEEN IT ABOUT TWO THOUSAND CUBIT[S] BY <THE> MEASUREMENT MAY NOT YOU DRAW NEAR TO IT SO THAT THAT YOU MAY KNOW <OBJ.> THE WAY WHICH YOU WILL GO IN <THE> IT FOR NOT YOU HAVE PASSED IN THE WAY FROM YESTERDAY THREE DAYS AGO 4But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits*NoteClose2,000 cubits is approximately 3,000 feet or 914.4 meters. between yourselves and the ark. Do not go near it, so that you can see the way to go since you have never traveled this way before
5AND HE SAID JOSHUA TO THE PEOPLE CONSECRATE YOURSELVES FOR TOMORROW HE WILL DO YAHWEH IN MIDST YOUR WONDERS 5Then Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders among you.”
6AND HE SAID JOSHUA TO THE PRIESTS <TO> SAYING LIFT UP <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF THE COVENANT AND PASS OVER <TO> BEFORE THE PEOPLE AND THEY LIFTED UP <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF THE COVENANT AND THEY WENT <TO> BEFORE THE PEOPLE 6And he said to the priests, “Take the ark of the covenant and go on ahead of the people.” So they carried the ark of the covenant and went ahead of them.
7AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO JOSHUA THE DAY <THE> THIS I WILL BEGIN TO MAKE GREAT YOU IN [THE] EYES OF ALL ISRAEL THAT THEY WILL KNOW! THAT JUST AS I WAS WITH MOSES I WILL BE WITH YOU 7Now the LORD said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you just as I was with Moses.
8AND YOU YOU WILL COMMAND <OBJ.> THE PRIESTS [THE] BEARERS OF [THE] ARK OF THE COVENANT <TO> SAYING WHEN COME YOU TO [THE] EDGE OF [THE] WATERS OF THE JORDAN IN THE JORDAN YOU WILL STAND STILL 8Command the priests carrying the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the waters, stand in the Jordan.’”
9AND HE SAID JOSHUA TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL DRAW NEAR HITHER AND HEAR <OBJ.> [THE] WORDS OF YAHWEH GOD YOUR 9So Joshua told the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the LORD your God.”
10AND HE SAID JOSHUA BY THIS YOU WILL KNOW! THAT GOD LIVING [IS] IN MIDST YOUR AND CERTAINLY <TO DISPOSSESS> HE WILL DISPOSSESS FROM BEFORE YOU <OBJ.> THE CANAANITE[S] AND <OBJ.> THE HITTITE[S] AND <OBJ.> THE HIVITE[S] AND <OBJ.> THE PERIZZITE[S] AND <OBJ.> THE GIRGASHITE[S] AND THE AMORITE[S] AND THE JEBUSITE[S] 10He continued, “This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that He will surely drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites.
11HERE! [THE] ARK OF THE COVENANT [THE] LORD OF ALL THE EARTH [IS] ABOUT TO PASS ON <TO> BEFORE YOU IN THE JORDAN 11Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go ahead of you into the Jordan.
12AND THEREFORE TAKE FOR <THE> YOURSELVES TWO [PLUS] TEN MAN FROM [THE] TRIBES OF ISRAEL A MAN ONE A MAN ONE TO THE TRIBE 12Now choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe.
13AND IT WILL BE WHEN REST [THE] SOLES OF [THE] FEET OF THE PRIESTS [THE] BEARERS OF [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH [THE] LORD OF ALL THE EARTH IN [THE] WATERS OF THE JORDAN [THE] WATERS OF THE JORDAN THEY WILL BE CUT OFF! THE WATERS THAT ARE COMING DOWN FROM TO ABOVE <TOWARDS> SO THEY MAY STAND A HEAP ONE 13When the feet of the priests who carry the ark of the LORD— the Lord of all the earth— touch down in the waters of the Jordan, its flowing waters will be cut off and will stand up in a heap.”
14AND IT WAS WHEN SET OUT THE PEOPLE FROM TENTS THEIR TO PASS OVER <OBJ.> THE JORDAN AND THE PRIESTS [THE] BEARERS OF THE ARK THE COVENANT <TO> BEFORE THE PEOPLE 14So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carried the ark of the covenant ahead of them.
15AND JUST AS CAME [THE] BEARERS OF THE ARK TO THE JORDAN AND [THE] FEET OF THE PRIESTS [THE] BEARERS OF THE ARK THEY WERE DIPPED IN [THE] EDGE OF THE WATERS AND THE JORDAN IT IS FULL OVER ALL BANKS ITS ALL [THE] DAYS OF HARVEST 15Now the Jordan overflows its banks throughout the harvest season. But as soon as the priests carrying the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge,
16AND THEY STOOD THE WATERS WHICH CAME DOWN FROM TO ABOVE <TOWARDS> THEY ROSE A HEAP ONE FAR AWAY VERY FROM ADAM THE CITY WHICH [IS] FROM [THE] SIDE OF ZARETHAN AND WHICH WENT DOWN TO [THE] SEA OF THE ARABAH [THE] SEA OF <THE> SALT THEY WERE COMPLETE THEY WERE CUT OFF AND THE PEOPLE THEY PASSED OVER BEFORE JERICHO 16the flowing water stood still. It backed up as far upstream as Adam, a city in the area of Zarethan, while the water flowing toward the Sea of the Arabah (the Salt Sea*NoteCloseThat is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.
17AND THEY STOOD THE PRIESTS [THE] BEARERS OF THE ARK [THE] COVENANT OF YAHWEH ON THE DRY GROUND IN [THE] MIDDLE OF THE JORDAN FIRMLY AND ALL ISRAEL [WERE] PASSING OVER ON THE DRY GROUND UNTIL THAT THEY HAD FINISHED ALL THE NATION TO PASS OVER <OBJ.> THE JORDAN 17The priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel crossed over the dry ground, until the entire nation had crossed the Jordan.
