17AND THEY STOOD THE PRIESTS [THE] BEARERS OF THE ARK [THE] COVENANT OF YAHWEH ON THE DRY GROUND IN [THE] MIDDLE OF THE JORDAN FIRMLY AND ALL ISRAEL [WERE] PASSING OVER ON THE DRY GROUND UNTIL THAT THEY HAD FINISHED ALL THE NATION TO PASS OVER <OBJ.> THE JORDAN 17The priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan, while all Israel crossed over the dry ground, until the entire nation had crossed the Jordan.
1AND IT WAS JUST WHEN THEY HAD FINISHED ALL THE NATION TO PASS OVER <OBJ.> THE JORDAN AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO JOSHUA <TO> SAYING Twelve Stones from the Jordan 1When the whole nation had finished crossing the Jordan, the LORD said to Joshua,
2TAKE FOR <THE> YOURSELVES FROM THE PEOPLE TWO [PLUS] TEN MEN A MAN ONE A MAN ONE FROM A TRIBE 2“Choose twelve men from among the people, one from each tribe,
3AND COMMAND <OBJ.> THEM <TO> SAYING TAKE UP FOR <THE> YOURSELVES FROM HERE FROM [THE] MIDDLE OF THE JORDAN FROM [THE] STANDING-PLACE OF [THE] FEET OF THE PRIESTS TO MAKE FIRM TWO [PLUS] TEN STONES AND YOU WILL TAKE OVER <OBJ.> THEM WITH YOU AND YOU WILL SET DOWN <OBJ.> THEM AT THE LODGING PLACE WHICH YOU WILL STAY AT IT THIS NIGHT 3and command them: ‘Take up for yourselves twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan where the priests were standing, carry them with you, and set them down in the place where you spend the night.’”
4AND HE CALLED JOSHUA TO TWO [PLUS] THE TEN MAN WHOM HE HAD APPOINTED FROM [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL A MAN ONE A MAN ONE FROM A TRIBE 4So Joshua summoned the twelve men he had appointed from the Israelites, one from each tribe,
5AND HE SAID TO <THE> THEM JOSHUA PASS OVER <TO> BEFORE [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH GOD YOUR INTO [THE] MIDDLE OF THE JORDAN AND TAKE UP FOR <THE> YOURSELVES EACH A STONE ONE ON SHOULDER HIS TO [THE] NUMBER OF [THE] TRIBES OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 5and said to them, “Cross over before the ark of the LORD your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you is to take a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of Israel,
6SO THAT IT MAY BE THIS A SIGN IN MIDST YOUR IF THEY WILL ASK! CHILDREN YOUR TOMORROW <TO> SAYING WHAT? [ARE] THE STONES <THE> THESE TO <THE> YOU 6to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’
7AND YOU WILL SAY TO <THE> THEM THAT THEY WERE CUT OFF [THE] WATERS OF THE JORDAN FROM BEFORE [THE] ARK OF [THE] COVENANT OF YAHWEH WHEN PASSED ON IT IN THE JORDAN THEY WERE CUT OFF [THE] WATERS OF THE JORDAN AND THEY WILL BECOME THE STONES <THE> THESE <INTO> A REMINDER TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL UNTIL PERPETUITY 7you are to tell them ‘The waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters were cut off.’ Therefore these stones will be a memorial to the Israelites forever.”
8AND THEY DID THUS [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL JUST AS HE HAD COMMANDED JOSHUA AND THEY TOOK UP TWO [PLUS] TEN STONES FROM [THE] MIDDLE OF THE JORDAN JUST AS HE HAD SAID YAHWEH TO JOSHUA TO [THE] NUMBER OF [THE] TRIBES OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND THEY TOOK OVER THEM WITH THEM TO THE LODGING PLACE AND THEY SET DOWN THEM THERE 8Thus the Israelites did as Joshua had commanded them. They took up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, one for each tribe of Israel, just as the LORD had told Joshua; and they carried them to the camp, where they set them down.
9AND TWO [PLUS] TEN STONES HE SET UP JOSHUA IN [THE] MIDDLE OF THE JORDAN IN [THE] STANDING-PLACE OF [THE] FEET OF THE PRIESTS [THE] BEARERS OF [THE] ARK OF THE COVENANT AND THEY HAVE BEEN THERE UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS 9Joshua also set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan,*NoteCloseSome translators And Joshua set up the twelve stones that had been in the middle of the Jordan in the place where the priests who carried the ark of the covenant stood. And the stones are there to this day.
10AND THE PRIESTS [THE] BEARERS OF THE ARK [WERE] STANDING IN [THE] MIDDLE OF THE JORDAN UNTIL WAS FINISHED EVERY <THE> THING WHICH HE HAD COMMANDED YAHWEH <OBJ.> JOSHUA TO SPEAK TO THE PEOPLE ACCORDING TO ALL THAT HE HAD COMMANDED MOSES <OBJ.> JOSHUA AND THEY HURRIED THE PEOPLE AND THEY PASSED OVER 10Now the priests who carried the ark remained standing in the middle of the Jordan until the people had completed everything the LORD had commanded Joshua to tell them, just as Moses had directed Joshua. The people hurried across,
11AND IT WAS JUST WHEN IT HAD FINISHED ALL THE PEOPLE TO PASS OVER AND IT PASSED OVER [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH AND THE PRIESTS <TO> BEFORE THE PEOPLE 11and after everyone had finished crossing, the priests with the ark of the LORD crossed in the sight of the people.
12AND THEY PASSED OVER [THE] DESCENDANTS OF REUBEN AND [THE] DESCENDANTS OF GAD AND [THE] HALF OF [THE] TRIBE OF <THE> MANASSEH ARRAYED FOR BATTLE <TO> BEFORE [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL JUST AS HE HAD SPOKEN TO THEM MOSES 12The Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh crossed over before the Israelites, armed for battle as Moses had instructed them.
13ABOUT FORTY THOUSAND <THE> ARMED [MEN] OF <THE> WAR THEY PASSED OVER <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH FOR <THE> BATTLE TO [THE] PLAINS OF JERICHO 13About 40,000 troops armed for battle crossed over before the LORD into the plains of Jericho.
14ON THE DAY <THE> THAT HE MADE GREAT YAHWEH <OBJ.> JOSHUA IN [THE] EYES OF ALL ISRAEL AND THEY FEARED <OBJ.> HIM JUST AS THEY HAD FEARED <OBJ.> MOSES ALL [THE] DAYS OF LIFE HIS 14On that day the LORD exalted Joshua in the sight of all Israel, and they revered him all the days of his life, just as they had revered Moses.
16COMMAND <OBJ.> THE PRIESTS [THE] BEARERS OF [THE] ARK OF THE TESTIMONY SO THEY MAY COME UP FROM THE JORDAN 16“Command the priests who carry the ark of the Testimony*NoteCloseThat is, the ark of the covenant to come up from the Jordan.”
17AND HE COMMANDED JOSHUA <OBJ.> THE PRIESTS <TO> SAYING COME UP FROM THE JORDAN 17So Joshua commanded the priests, “Come up from the Jordan.”
18AND IT WAS JUST AS CAME UP THE PRIESTS [THE] BEARERS OF [THE] ARK OF [THE] COVENANT OF YAHWEH FROM [THE] MIDDLE OF THE JORDAN THEY WERE DRAWN OUT [THE] SOLES OF [THE] FEET OF THE PRIESTS TO THE DRY GROUND AND THEY RETURNED [THE] WATERS OF THE JORDAN TO PLACE THEIR AND THEY WENT AS YESTERDAY THREE DAYS AGO OVER ALL BANKS ITS 18When the priests carrying the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up out of the Jordan and their feet touched the dry land, the waters of the Jordan returned to their course and overflowed all the banks as before.
19AND THE PEOPLE THEY WENT UP FROM THE JORDAN ON THE TEN OF THE MONTH <THE> FIRST AND THEY ENCAMPED AT <THE> GILGAL ON [THE] EDGE OF [THE] EAST OF JERICHO The Camp at Gilgal 19On the tenth day of the first month the people went up from the Jordan and camped at Gilgal on the eastern border of Jericho.
20AND <OBJ.> TWO [PLUS] TEN THE STONES <THE> THESE WHICH THEY HAD TAKEN FROM THE JORDAN HE SET UP JOSHUA AT <THE> GILGAL 20And there at Gilgal Joshua set up the twelve stones they had taken from the Jordan.
21AND HE SAID TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <TO> SAYING THAT THEY WILL ASK! CHILDREN YOUR TOMORROW <OBJ.> FATHERS THEIR <TO> SAYING WHAT? [ARE] THE STONES <THE> THESE 21Then Joshua said to the Israelites “In the future, when your children ask their fathers, ‘What is the meaning of these stones?’
22AND YOU WILL MAKE KNOWN TO <OBJ.> CHILDREN YOUR <TO> SAYING ON THE DRY GROUND IT PASSED OVER ISRAEL <OBJ.> THE JORDAN <THE> THIS 22you are to tell them, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan on dry ground.’
23THAT HE DRIED UP YAHWEH GOD YOUR <OBJ.> [THE] WATERS OF THE JORDAN FROM BEFORE YOU UNTIL HAD PASSED OVER YOU JUST AS HE DID YAHWEH GOD YOUR TO [THE] SEA OF REED[S] WHICH HE DRIED UP FROM BEFORE US UNTIL HAD PASSED OVER WE 23For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, just as He did to the Red Sea,*NoteCloseOr the Sea of Reeds which He dried up before us until we had crossed over.
24SO AS TO KNOW ALL [THE] PEOPLES OF THE EARTH <OBJ.> [THE] HAND OF YAHWEH THAT [IS] MIGHTY IT SO THAT YOU MAY FEAR <OBJ.> YAHWEH GOD YOUR ALL THE DAYS 24He did this so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, and so that you may always fear the LORD your God.”
