1 AND JERICHO [WAS] SHUTTING AND SHUT UP <FROM> BECAUSE OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL THERE NOT [WAS ONE] GOING OUT AND THERE NOT [WAS ONE] COMING
The Walls of Jericho
1 Now Jericho was tightly shut up because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in.
2 AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO JOSHUA SEE I HAVE GIVEN IN HAND YOUR <OBJ.> JERICHO AND <OBJ.> KING ITS [THE] MIGHTY [MEN] OF <THE> STRENGTH
2 And the LORD said to Joshua, “Behold, I have delivered Jericho into your hand along with its king and its mighty men of valor.
3 AND YOU WILL GO AROUND <OBJ.> THE CITY ALL [THE] MEN OF <THE> WAR YOU WILL ENCIRCLE <OBJ.> THE CITY A TIME ONE THUS YOU WILL DO SIX DAYS
3 March around the city with all the men of war, circling the city one time. Do this for six days.
4 AND SEVEN PRIESTS THEY WILL CARRY SEVEN <THE> TRUMPETS OF <THE> RAMS' HORNS <TO> BEFORE THE ARK AND ON THE DAY <THE> SEVENTH YOU WILL GO ROUND <OBJ.> THE CITY SEVEN TIMES AND THE PRIESTS THEY WILL GIVE A BLAST ON THE TRUMPETS
4 Have seven priests carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark. Then on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, while the priests blow the horns.
5 AND IT WILL BE WHEN BLOW ON [THE] HORN OF <THE> RAM'S HORN JUST AS HEAR YOU <OBJ.> [THE] SOUND OF THE TRUMPET THEY WILL SHOUT ALL THE PEOPLE A SHOUT LOUD AND IT WILL FALL [THE] WALL OF THE CITY IN PLACE ITS AND THEY WILL GO UP THE PEOPLE EVERYONE BEFORE HIMSELF
5 And when there is a long blast of the ram’s horn and you hear its sound, have all the people give a mighty shout. Then the wall of the city will collapse and all your people will charge straight into the city.
6 AND HE CALLED JOSHUA [THE] SON OF NUN TO THE PRIESTS AND HE SAID TO THEM LIFT UP <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF THE COVENANT AND SEVEN PRIESTS THEY WILL CARRY SEVEN TRUMPETS OF RAMS' HORNS <TO> BEFORE [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH
6 So Joshua son of Nun summoned the priests and said “Take up the ark of the covenant and have seven priests carry seven rams’ horns in front of the ark of the LORD.”
7 AND HE SAID TO THE PEOPLE PASS ON AND GO ROUND <OBJ.> THE CITY AND THE ARMED [MAN] HE WILL PASS ON <TO> BEFORE [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH
7 And he told the people, “Advance and march around the city, with the armed troops going ahead of the ark of the LORD.”
8 AND IT WAS WHEN HAD SAID JOSHUA TO THE PEOPLE AND SEVEN THE PRIESTS [WHO] WERE CARRYING SEVEN [THE] TRUMPETS OF <THE> RAMS' HORNS <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH THEY PASSED ON AND THEY GAVE A BLAST ON THE TRUMPETS AND [THE] ARK OF [THE] COVENANT OF YAHWEH [WAS] GOING AFTER THEM
8 After Joshua had spoken to the people, seven priests carrying seven rams’ horns before the LORD advanced and blew the horns, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them.
9 AND THE ARMED [MAN] [WAS] WALKING <TO> BEFORE THE PRIESTS [WHO] GIVE A BLAST ON <OF> THE TRUMPETS AND THE REARGUARD [WAS] WALKING BEHIND THE ARK WALKING AND GIVING BLASTS ON THE TRUMPETS
9 While the horns continued to sound, the armed troops marched ahead of the priests who blew the horns, and the rear guard followed the ark.
10 AND <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE HE COMMANDED JOSHUA <TO> SAYING NOT YOU MUST SHOUT AND NOT YOU MUST MAKE HEARD <OBJ.> VOICE YOUR AND NOT IT WILL GO OUT FROM MOUTH YOUR A WORD UNTIL [THE] DAY SAY I TO YOU SHOUT AND YOU WILL SHOUT
10 But Joshua had commanded the people “Do not give a battle cry or let your voice be heard; do not let one word come out of your mouth until the day I tell you to shout. Then you are to shout!”
11 AND HE CAUSED TO GO AROUND [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH <OBJ.> THE CITY IT ENCIRCLED [IT] A TIME ONE AND THEY WENT THE CAMP AND THEY STAYED IN THE CAMP
11 So he had the ark of the LORD carried around the city, circling it once. And the people returned to the camp and spent the night there.
12 AND HE ROSE EARLY JOSHUA IN THE MORNING AND THEY LIFTED THE PRIESTS <OBJ.> [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH
12 Joshua got up early the next morning, and the priests took the ark of the LORD.
13 AND SEVEN THE PRIESTS [WHO] WERE CARRYING SEVEN [THE] TRUMPETS OF <THE> RAMS' HORNS <TO> BEFORE [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH [WERE] WALKING CONTINUOUSLY <TO WALK> AND THEY GAVE BLASTS ON THE TRUMPETS AND THE ARMED [MAN] [WAS] WALKING <TO> BEFORE THEM AND THE REARGUARD [WAS] WALKING BEHIND [THE] ARK OF YAHWEH WALKING AND GIVING BLASTS ON THE TRUMPETS
13 And the seven priests carrying seven rams’ horns kept marching ahead of the ark of the LORD and blowing the horns. The armed troops went in front of them and the rear guard followed the ark of the LORD, while the horns kept sounding.
14 AND THEY WENT AROUND <OBJ.> THE CITY ON THE DAY <THE> SECOND A TIME ONE AND THEY RETURNED THE CAMP THUS THEY DID SIX DAYS
14 So on the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. They did this for six days.
15 AND IT WAS ON THE DAY <THE> SEVENTH AND THEY ROSE EARLY WHEN CAME UP THE DAWN AND THEY WENT AROUND <OBJ.> THE CITY ACCORDING TO THE CUSTOM <THE> THIS SEVEN TIMES ONLY ON THE DAY <THE> THAT THEY WENT ROUND <OBJ.> THE CITY SEVEN TIMES
15 Then on the seventh day, they got up at dawn and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. That was the only day they circled the city seven times.
16 AND IT WAS AT THE TIME <THE> SEVENTH THEY GAVE A BLAST THE PRIESTS ON THE TRUMPETS AND HE SAID JOSHUA TO THE PEOPLE SHOUT FOR HE HAS GIVEN YAHWEH TO <THE> YOU <OBJ.> THE CITY
16 After the seventh time around, the priests blew the horns, and Joshua commanded the people, “Shout! For the LORD has given you the city!
17 AND IT WILL BE THE CITY A DEVOTED THING IT AND ALL THAT [IS] IN <THE> IT TO YAHWEH ONLY RAHAB THE PROSTITUTE SHE WILL LIVE SHE AND EVERY [ONE] WHO [IS] WITH HER IN THE HOUSE FOR SHE HID <OBJ.> THE MESSENGERS WHOM WE SENT
17 Now the city and everything in it must be devoted to the LORD for destruction. Only Rahab the prostitute and all those with her in her house will live, because she hid the spies we sent.
18 AND ONLY YOU KEEP FROM THE DEVOTED THING[S] LEST YOU SHOULD TOTALLY DESTROY AND YOU WILL TAKE ANY OF THE DEVOTED THING[S] AND YOU WILL MAKE <OBJ.> [THE] CAMP OF ISRAEL INTO A DEVOTED THING AND YOU WILL TROUBLE <OBJ.> IT
18 But keep away from the things devoted to destruction, lest you yourself be set apart for destruction. If you take any of these, you will set apart the camp of Israel for destruction and bring disaster upon it.
19 AND ALL SILVER AND GOLD AND ARTICLES OF BRONZE AND IRON [IS] A HOLY THING IT TO YAHWEH [THE] TREASURY OF YAHWEH IT WILL GO
19 For all the silver and gold and all the articles of bronze and iron are holy to the LORD; they must go into His treasury.”
20 AND IT SHOUTED THE PEOPLE AND THEY GAVE A BLAST ON THE TRUMPETS AND IT WAS WHEN HEARD THE PEOPLE <OBJ.> [THE] SOUND OF THE TRUMPET AND THEY SHOUTED THE PEOPLE A SHOUT LOUD AND IT FELL THE CITY WALL IN PLACE ITS AND IT WENT UP THE PEOPLE THE CITY TOWARDS EVERYONE BEFORE HIMSELF AND THEY CAPTURED <OBJ.> THE CITY
20 So when the rams’ horns sounded, the people shouted. When they heard the blast of the horn, the people gave a great shout, and the wall collapsed. Then all the people charged straight into the city and captured it.
21 AND THEY TOTALLY DESTROYED <OBJ.> ALL THAT [WAS] IN THE CITY FROM MAN AND UNTO WOMAN FROM YOUNG MAN AND UNTO OLD [MAN] AND UNTO OX[EN] AND SHEEP AND DONKEY[S] TO [THE] MOUTH OF [THE] SWORD
21 With the edge of the sword they devoted to destruction everything in the city— man and woman, young and old, oxen, sheep, and donkeys.
22 AND TO TWO THE MEN WHO HAD SPIED OUT <OBJ.> THE LAND HE SAID JOSHUA GO [THE] HOUSE OF THE WOMAN THE PROSTITUTE AND BRING OUT FROM THERE <OBJ.> THE WOMAN AND <OBJ.> EVERY [ONE] WHO [BELONGS] TO <THE> HER JUST AS YOU SWORE TO <THE> HER
22 Meanwhile, Joshua told the two men who had spied out the land, “Go into the house of the prostitute and bring out the woman and all who are with her, just as you promised her.”
23 AND THEY WENT THE YOUNG MEN WHO HAD SPIED OUT AND THEY BROUGHT OUT <OBJ.> RAHAB AND <OBJ.> FATHER HER AND <OBJ.> MOTHER HER AND <OBJ.> BROTHERS HER AND <OBJ.> EVERY [ONE] WHO [BELONGED] TO <THE> HER AND <OBJ.> ALL FAMILI<ES> HER THEY BROUGHT OUT AND THEY PUT THEM FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF [THE] CAMP OF ISRAEL
23 So the young spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother and brothers, and all who belonged to her. They brought out her whole family and settled them outside the camp of Israel.
24 AND THE CITY THEY BURNED WITH <THE> FIRE AND ALL THAT [WAS] IN <THE> IT ONLY THE SILVER AND THE GOLD AND [THE] ARTICLES OF <THE> BRONZE AND <THE> IRON THEY PUT [THE] TREASURY OF [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH
24 Then the Israelites burned up the city and everything in it. However, they put the silver and gold and articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORD’s house.
25 AND <OBJ.> RAHAB THE PROSTITUTE AND <OBJ.> [THE] HOUSEHOLD OF FATHER HER AND <OBJ.> EVERY [ONE] WHO [BELONGED] TO <THE> HER HE LET LIVE JOSHUA AND SHE HAS DWELT IN [THE] MIDST OF ISRAEL UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS FOR SHE HID <OBJ.> THE MESSENGERS WHOM HE HAD SENT JOSHUA TO SPY OUT <OBJ.> JERICHO
25 And Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her father’s household and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent to spy out Jericho. So she has lived among the Israelites to this day.
26 AND HE ADMINISTERED AN OATH JOSHUA AT THE TIME <THE> THAT <TO> SAYING [IS] CURSED THE PERSON <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH WHO HE WILL ARISE AND HE WILL REBUILD <OBJ.> THE CITY <THE> THIS <OBJ.> JERICHO WITH FIRSTBORN HIS HE WILL FOUND IT AND WITH YOUNG [SON] HIS HE WILL SET UP GATES ITS
26 At that time Joshua invoked this solemn oath:
“Cursed before the LORD is the man who rises up
and rebuilds this city, Jericho;
at the cost of his firstborn
he will lay its foundations;
at the cost of his youngest
he will set up its gates.”
27 AND HE WAS YAHWEH WITH JOSHUA AND IT WAS [THE] REPORT OF HIM IN ALL THE LAND
27 So the LORD was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout the land.
