38FOR [THE] CLOUD OF YAHWEH [WAS] OVER THE TABERNACLE BY DAY AND FIRE IT WAS NIGHT ON <THE> IT TO [THE] EYES OF ALL [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL IN ALL JOURNEYINGS THEIR 38For the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel through all their journeys.
1AND HE CALLED TO MOSES AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO HIM FROM [THE] TENT OF MEETING <TO> SAYING Laws for Burnt Offerings (Leviticus 6:8–13) 1Then the LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting, saying,
2SPEAK TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND YOU WILL SAY TO THEM ANYONE THAT HE WILL PRESENT OF <THE> YOU A PRESENT TO YAHWEH FROM THE LIVESTOCK FROM THE HERD AND FROM THE FLOCK YOU WILL PRESENT <OBJ.> PRESENT YOUR 2“Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When any of you brings an offering to the LORD, you may bring as your offering an animal from the herd or the flock.
3IF [IS] A BURNT OFFERING PRESENT HIS FROM THE HERD A MALE UNBLEMISHED HE WILL PRESENT IT TO [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING HE WILL PRESENT <OBJ.> IT FOR ACCEPTANCE ITS <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH 3If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he is to present an unblemished male. He must bring it to the entrance to the Tent of Meeting for its acceptance before the LORD.
4AND HE WILL LEAN HAND HIS ON [THE] HEAD OF THE BURNT OFFERING AND IT WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR <THE> HIM TO MAKE ATONEMENT ON HIM 4He is to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, so it can be accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him.
5AND HE WILL CUT [THE] THROAT OF <OBJ.> [THE] YOUNG ONE OF THE HERD <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH AND THEY WILL PRESENT [THE] SONS OF AARON THE PRIESTS <OBJ.> THE BLOOD AND THEY WILL SPRINKLE <OBJ.> THE BLOOD ON THE ALTAR ALL AROUND WHICH [IS] [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING 5And he shall slaughter the young bull before the LORD, and Aaron’s sons the priests are to present the blood and splatter it on all sides of the altar at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
6AND HE WILL SKIN <OBJ.> THE BURNT OFFERING AND HE WILL CUT IN PIECES <OBJ.> IT INTO PIECES ITS 6Next, he is to skin the burnt offering and cut it into pieces.
7AND THEY WILL PUT [THE] SONS OF AARON THE PRIEST FIRE ON THE ALTAR AND THEY WILL ARRANGE WOOD<S> ON THE FIRE 7The sons of Aaron the priest shall put a fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire.
8AND THEY WILL ARRANGE [THE] SONS OF AARON THE PRIESTS <OBJ.> THE PIECES <OBJ.> THE HEAD AND <OBJ.> THE SUET ON THE WOOD<S> WHICH [ARE] ON THE FIRE WHICH [IS] ON THE ALTAR 8Then Aaron’s sons the priests are to arrange the pieces, including the head and the fat, atop the burning wood on the altar.
9AND ENTRAILS ITS AND LEGS ITS HE WILL WASH WITH <THE> WATER AND HE WILL MAKE SMOKE THE PRIEST <OBJ.> <THE> EVERYTHING THE ALTAR TOWARDS A BURNT OFFERING A FIRE OFFERING OF AN ODOR OF SOOTHING TO YAHWEH 9The entrails and legs must be washed with water, and the priest shall burn all of it on the altar as a burnt offering, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
10AND IF [IS] FROM THE FLOCK PRESENT HIS FROM THE YOUNG RAMS OR FROM THE GOATS TO A BURNT OFFERING A MALE UNBLEMISHED HE WILL PRESENT IT 10If, however, one’s offering is a burnt offering from the flock— from the sheep or goats— he is to present an unblemished male.
11AND HE WILL CUT [THE] THROAT OF <OBJ.> IT AT [THE] SIDE OF THE ALTAR NORTH -WARD <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH AND THEY WILL SPRINKLE [THE] SONS OF AARON THE PRIESTS <OBJ.> BLOOD ITS ON THE ALTAR ALL AROUND 11He shall slaughter it on the north side of the altar before the LORD, and Aaron’s sons the priests are to splatter its blood against the altar on all sides.
12AND HE WILL CUT IN PIECES <OBJ.> IT INTO PIECES ITS AND <OBJ.> HEAD ITS AND <OBJ.> SUET ITS AND HE WILL ARRANGE THE PRIEST <OBJ.> THEM ON THE WOOD<S> WHICH [ARE] ON THE FIRE WHICH [IS] ON THE ALTAR 12He is to cut the animal into pieces, and the priest shall arrange them, including the head and fat, atop the burning wood that is on the altar.
13AND THE ENTRAILS AND THE LEGS HE WILL WASH WITH <THE> WATER AND HE WILL PRESENT THE PRIEST <OBJ.> <THE> EVERYTHING AND HE WILL MAKE [IT] SMOKE THE ALTAR TOWARDS [IS] A BURNT OFFERING IT A FIRE OFFERING OF AN ODOR OF SOOTHING TO YAHWEH 13The entrails and legs must be washed with water, and the priest shall present all of it and burn it on the altar; it is a burnt offering, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD.
14AND IF FROM THE BIRD[S] [IS] A BURNT OFFERING PRESENT HIS TO YAHWEH AND HE WILL PRESENT FROM THE TURTLE-DOVES OR FROM [THE] YOUNG ONES OF THE DOVE <OBJ.> PRESENT HIS 14If, instead, one’s offering to the LORD is a burnt offering of birds, he is to present a turtledove or a young pigeon.
15AND HE WILL PRESENT IT THE PRIEST TO THE ALTAR AND HE WILL NIP OFF <OBJ.> HEAD ITS AND HE WILL MAKE [IT] SMOKE THE ALTAR TOWARDS AND IT WILL BE DRAINED OUT BLOOD ITS ON [THE] SIDE OF THE ALTAR 15Then the priest shall bring it to the altar, twist off its head, and burn it on the altar; its blood should be drained out on the side of the altar.
16AND HE WILL REMOVE <OBJ.> CRAW ITS WITH FEATHER[S] ITS AND HE WILL THROW <OBJ.> IT BESIDE THE ALTAR EAST -WARD TO [THE] PLACE OF THE FATTY ASH 16And he is to remove the crop with its contents*NoteCloseOr the crop and feathers and throw it to the east side of the altar, in the place for ashes.
17AND HE WILL TEAR APART <OBJ.> IT BY WINGS ITS NOT HE WILL SEPARATE [IT] AND HE WILL MAKE SMOKE <OBJ.> IT THE PRIEST THE ALTAR TOWARDS ON THE WOOD<S> WHICH [ARE] ON THE FIRE [IS] A BURNT OFFERING IT A FIRE OFFERING OF AN ODOR OF SOOTHING TO YAHWEH 17He shall tear it open by its wings, without dividing the bird completely. And the priest is to burn it on the altar atop the burning wood. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, a pleasing aroma to the LORD. [’’]
