27AND A MAN OR A WOMAN THAT HE WILL BE AMONG <THE> THEM A NECROMANCER OR A SOOTHSAYER CERTAINLY <TO DIE> THEY WILL BE PUT TO DEATH WITH <THE> STONE[S] PEOPLE WILL STONE <OBJ.> THEM BLOOD<S> THEIR [ARE] ON <THE> THEM 27A man or a woman who is a medium or spiritist must surely be put to death They shall be stoned; their blood is upon them.’”
1AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES SAY TO THE PRIESTS [THE] SONS OF AARON AND YOU WILL SAY TO THEM FOR A CORPSE NOT HE WILL MAKE HIMSELF UNCLEAN AMONG KINSPEOPLE<S> HIS Holiness Required of Priests 1Then the LORD said to Moses, “Speak to Aaron’s sons, the priests, and tell them that a priest is not to defile himself for a dead person among his people,
2THAT EXCEPT FOR RELATIVE HIS <THE> NEAR TO HIM FOR MOTHER HIS AND FOR FATHER HIS AND FOR SON HIS AND FOR DAUGHTER HIS AND FOR BROTHER HIS 2except for his immediate family— his mother, father, son, daughter, or brother,
3AND FOR SISTER HIS THE VIRGIN <THE> NEAR TO HIM WHO NOT SHE HAS BELONGED TO A HUSBAND FOR <THE> HER HE WILL MAKE HIMSELF UNCLEAN 3or his unmarried sister who is near to him, since she has no husband.
4NOT HE WILL MAKE HIMSELF UNCLEAN A HUSBAND AMONG KINSPEOPLE<S> HIS TO PROFANE HIMSELF 4He is not to defile himself for those related to him by marriage, and so profane himself.
5NOT THEY WILL MAKE BALD BALDNESS ON HEAD THEIR AND [THE] SIDE OF BEARD THEIR NOT THEY WILL SHAVE AND IN FLESH THEIR NOT THEY WILL CUT CUT[S] 5Priests must not make bald spots on their heads, shave off the edges of their beards, or make cuts in their bodies.
6HOLY THEY WILL BE TO GOD THEIR AND NOT THEY WILL PROFANE [THE] NAME OF GOD THEIR FOR <OBJ.> [THE] FIRE OFFERINGS OF YAHWEH [THE] FOOD OF GOD THEIR THEY [ARE] PRESENTING AND THEY WILL BE A HOLY THING 6They must be holy to their God and not profane the name of their God. Because they present to the LORD the food offerings, the food of their God, they must be holy.
7A WOMAN A PROSTITUTE AND A [WOMAN] PROFANED NOT THEY WILL TAKE AND A WOMAN DIVORCED FROM HUSBAND HER NOT THEY WILL TAKE FOR [IS] HOLY HE TO GOD HIS 7A priest must not marry a woman defiled by prostitution or divorced by her husband, for the priest is holy to his God.
8AND YOU WILL SET APART AS HOLY HIM FOR <OBJ.> [THE] FOOD OF GOD YOUR HE [IS] PRESENTING HOLY HE WILL BE TO <THE> YOU FOR [AM] HOLY I YAHWEH [WHO] SETS APART AS HOLY YOU 8You are to regard him as holy, since he presents the food of your God. He shall be holy to you, because I the LORD am holy— I who set you apart.
9AND A DAUGHTER OF A MAN A PRIEST IF SHE WILL PROFANE HERSELF BY ACTING AS A PROSTITUTE <OBJ.> FATHER HER SHE [IS] PROFANING WITH <THE> FIRE SHE WILL BE BURNED 9If a priest’s daughter defiles herself by prostituting herself, she profanes her father; she must be burned in the fire.
10AND THE PRIEST <THE> GREAT MORE THAN BROTHERS HIS WHOM IT WAS POURED ON HEAD HIS [THE] OIL OF <THE> ANOINTING AND HE HAS FILLED <OBJ.> HAND HIS TO WEAR <OBJ.> THE GARMENTS <OBJ.> HEAD HIS NOT HE WILL LET LOOSE AND GARMENTS HIS NOT HE WILL TEAR 10The priest who is highest among his brothers, who has had the anointing oil poured on his head and has been ordained to wear the priestly garments, must not let his hair hang loose*NoteCloseOr must not uncover his head or tear his garments.
11AND TO ANY CORPSES OF A DEAD [PERSON] NOT HE WILL GO FOR FATHER HIS AND FOR MOTHER HIS NOT HE WILL MAKE HIMSELF UNCLEAN 11He must not go near any dead body; he must not defile himself, even for his father or mother.
12AND FROM THE SANCTUARY NOT HE WILL GO OUT AND NOT HE WILL PROFANE <OBJ.> [THE] SANCTUARY OF GOD HIS FOR [THE] CONSECRATION OF [THE] OIL OF <THE> ANOINTING OF GOD HIS [IS] ON HIM I [AM] YAHWEH 12He must not leave or desecrate the sanctuary of his God, for the consecration of the anointing oil of his God is on him. I am the LORD.
14A WIDOW AND A DIVORCED [WOMAN] AND A [WOMAN] PROFANED A PROSTITUTE <OBJ.> THESE NOT HE WILL TAKE THAT EXCEPT A VIRGIN FROM KINSPEOPLE<S> HIS HE WILL TAKE A WIFE 14He is not to marry a widow, a divorced woman, or one defiled by prostitution. He is to marry a virgin from his own people,
15AND NOT HE WILL PROFANE OFFSPRING HIS AMONG KINSPEOPLE<S> HIS FOR I [AM] YAHWEH [WHO] SETS APART AS HOLY HIM 15so that he does not defile his offspring among his people, for I am the LORD who sanctifies him.”
16AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES <TO> SAYING Restrictions against Those with Blemishes 16Then the LORD said to Moses,
17SPEAK TO AARON <TO> SAYING A MAN FROM OFFSPRING YOUR TO GENERATIONS THEIR WHOM IT WILL BE IN <THE> HIM A BLEMISH NOT HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO PRESENT [THE] FOOD OF GOD HIS 17“Say to Aaron ‘For the generations to come, none of your descendants who has a physical defect may approach to offer the food of his God.
18FOR ANY MAN WHOM [IS] IN <THE> HIM A BLEMISH NOT HE WILL DRAW NEAR A MAN BLIND OR LAME OR [HAVING] A SLIT NOSE OR [HAVING] SOMETHING ENLARGED 18No man who has any defect may approach— no man who is blind, lame, disfigured, or deformed;
19OR A MAN WHOM IT WILL BE IN <THE> HIM A FRACTURE OF A FOOT OR A FRACTURE OF A HAND 19no man who has a broken foot or hand,
20OR A [MAN] HUNCHBACKED OR A [MAN] THIN OR A DEFECT IN EYE HIS OR ECZEMA OR SCABS OR A [MAN] CRUSHED OF TESTICLE 20or who is a hunchback or dwarf, or who has an eye defect, a festering rash, scabs, or a crushed testicle.
21ANY MAN WHOM [IS] IN <THE> HIM A BLEMISH FROM [THE] OFFSPRING OF AARON THE PRIEST NOT HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO PRESENT <OBJ.> [THE] FIRE OFFERINGS OF YAHWEH A BLEMISH [IS] IN <THE> HIM <OBJ.> [THE] FOOD OF GOD HIS NOT HE WILL DRAW NEAR TO PRESENT 21No descendant of Aaron the priest who has a defect shall approach to present the food offerings to the LORD. Since he has a defect he is not to come near to offer the food of his God.
22[THE] FOOD OF GOD HIS FROM [THE] HOLY THINGS OF THE HOLY THINGS AND FROM THE HOLY THINGS HE WILL EAT 22He may eat the most holy food of his God as well as the holy food,
23NEVERTHELESS TO THE CURTAIN NOT HE WILL GO AND TO THE ALTAR NOT HE WILL DRAW NEAR FOR A BLEMISH [IS] IN <THE> HIM AND NOT HE WILL PROFANE <OBJ.> SANCTUARY MY FOR I [AM] YAHWEH [WHO] SETS APART AS HOLY THEM 23but because he has a defect he must not go near the veil or approach the altar, so as not to desecrate My sanctuaries. For I am the LORD who sanctifies them.’”
24AND HE SPOKE MOSES TO AARON AND TO SONS HIS AND TO ALL [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 24Moses told this to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites.
