37AND YOU WILL KEEP <OBJ.> ALL STATUTES MY AND <OBJ.> ALL JUDGMENTS MY AND YOU WILL DO <OBJ.> THEM I [AM] YAHWEH 37You must keep all My statutes and all My ordinances and follow them. I am the LORD.”
1AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES <TO> SAYING Punishments for Disobedience (Leviticus 26:14–39; Deuteronomy 28:15–68) 1Then the LORD said to Moses,
2AND TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL YOU WILL SAY A PERSON A PERSON FROM [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND OF THE SOJOURNER[S] WHO SOJOURNS IN ISRAEL WHO HE WILL GIVE ANY OF OFFSPRING HIS TO <THE> MOLECH CERTAINLY <TO DIE> HE WILL BE PUT TO DEATH [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND THEY WILL STONE HIM WITH <THE> STONE[S] 2“Tell the Israelites, ‘Any Israelite or foreigner living in Israel who gives any of his children to Molech must be put to death. The people of the land are to stone him.
3AND I I WILL SET <OBJ.> FACE MY ON THE PERSON <THE> THAT AND I WILL CUT OFF <OBJ.> HIM FROM AMONG PEOPLE HIS FOR ONE OF OFFSPRING HIS HE HAS GIVEN TO <THE> MOLECH SO AS TO MAKE UNCLEAN <OBJ.> SANCTUARY MY AND TO PROFANE <OBJ.> [THE] NAME OF HOLINESS MY 3And I will set My face against that man and cut him off from his people, because by giving his offspring to Molech, he has defiled My sanctuary and profaned My holy name.
4AND IF CERTAINLY <TO HIDE> THEY WILL HIDE [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND <OBJ.> EYES THEIR FROM THE PERSON <THE> THAT WHEN GIVES HE ONE OF OFFSPRING HIS TO <THE> MOLECH TO NOT TO PUT TO DEATH <OBJ.> HIM 4And if the people of the land ever hide their eyes and fail to put to death the man who gives one of his children to Molech,
5AND I WILL SET I <OBJ.> FACE MY ON THE PERSON <THE> THAT AND ON CLAN HIS AND I WILL CUT OFF <OBJ.> HIM AND <OBJ.> ALL THOSE [WHO] ACT AS PROSTITUTES AFTER HIM BY ACTING AS PROSTITUTES AFTER <THE> MOLECH FROM AMONG PEOPLE THEIR 5then I will set My face against that man and his family and cut off from among their people both him and all who follow him in prostituting themselves with Molech.
6AND THE PERSON WHO IT WILL TURN TO THE NECROMANCERS AND TO THE SOOTHSAYERS TO ACT AS A PROSTITUTE AFTER THEM AND I WILL SET <OBJ.> FACE MY ON THE PERSON <THE> THAT AND I WILL CUT OFF <OBJ.> HIM FROM AMONG PEOPLE HIS 6Whoever turns to mediums or spiritists to prostitute himself with them, I will also set My face against that person and cut him off from his people.
7AND YOU WILL KEEP YOURSELVES HOLY AND YOU WILL BE HOLY FOR I [AM] YAHWEH GOD YOUR 7Consecrate yourselves, therefore, and be holy, because I am the LORD your God.
8AND YOU WILL KEEP <OBJ.> STATUTES MY AND YOU WILL DO <OBJ.> THEM I [AM] YAHWEH [WHO] SETS APART AS HOLY YOU 8And you shall keep My statutes and practice them. I am the LORD who sanctifies you.
9IF A PERSON A PERSON WHO HE WILL CURSE <OBJ.> FATHER HIS AND <OBJ.> MOTHER HIS CERTAINLY <TO DIE> HE WILL BE PUT TO DEATH FATHER HIS AND MOTHER HIS HE HAS CURSED BLOOD<S> HIS [ARE] ON <THE> HIM 9If anyone curses*NoteCloseOr dishonors or reviles; similarly again in this verse his father or mother, he must be put to death.*NoteCloseCited in Matthew 15:4 and Mark 7:10 He has cursed his father or mother; his blood shall be upon him.
10AND A MAN WHO HE WILL COMMIT ADULTERY <OBJ.> A WIFE OF A MAN WHO HE WILL COMMIT ADULTERY <OBJ.> [THE] WIFE OF NEIGHBOR HIS CERTAINLY <TO DIE> HE WILL BE PUT TO DEATH THE ADULTERER AND THE ADULTERESS Punishments for Sexual Immorality (Proverbs 5:1–23; 1 Corinthians 5:1–8) 10If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife— with the wife of his neighbor— both the adulterer and the adulteress must surely be put to death.
11AND A MAN WHO HE WILL LIE WITH <OBJ.> [THE] WIFE OF FATHER HIS [THE] NAKEDNESS OF FATHER HIS HE HAS UNCOVERED CERTAINLY <TO DIE> THEY WILL BE PUT TO DEATH BOTH OF THEM BLOOD<S> THEIR [ARE] ON <THE> THEM 11If a man lies with his father’s wife, he has uncovered his father’s nakedness. Both must surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
12AND A MAN WHO HE WILL LIE WITH <OBJ.> DAUGHTER-IN-LAW HIS CERTAINLY <TO DIE> THEY WILL BE PUT TO DEATH BOTH OF THEM CONFUSION THEY HAVE DONE BLOOD<S> THEIR [ARE] ON <THE> THEM 12If a man lies with his daughter-in-law, both must surely be put to death. They have acted perversely; their blood is upon them.
13AND A MAN WHO HE WILL LIE WITH <OBJ.> A MALE [THE] LYINGS OF A WOMAN AN ABOMINATION THEY HAVE DONE BOTH OF THEM CERTAINLY <TO DIE> THEY WILL BE PUT TO DEATH BLOOD<S> THEIR [ARE] ON <THE> THEM 13If a man lies with a man as with a woman, they have both committed an abomination. They must surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
14AND A MAN WHO HE WILL TAKE <OBJ.> A WOMAN AND <OBJ.> MOTHER HER [IS] WICKEDNESS IT WITH <THE> FIRE PEOPLE WILL BURN <OBJ.> HIM AND <OBJ.> THEM AND NOT IT WILL BE WICKEDNESS IN MIDST OF YOU 14If a man marries both a woman and her mother, it is depraved. Both he and they must be burned in the fire, so that there will be no depravity among you.
15AND A MAN WHO HE WILL GIVE COPULATION HIS IN AN ANIMAL CERTAINLY <TO DIE> HE WILL BE PUT TO DEATH AND <OBJ.> THE ANIMAL YOU WILL KILL 15If a man lies carnally with an animal, he must be put to death. And you are also to kill the animal.
16AND A WOMAN WHO SHE WILL DRAW NEAR TO ANY ANIMAL TO STRETCH OUT WITH WITH <THE> IT AND YOU WILL KILL <OBJ.> THE WOMAN AND <OBJ.> THE ANIMAL CERTAINLY <TO DIE> THEY WILL BE PUT TO DEATH BLOOD<S> THEIR [ARE] ON <THE> THEM 16If a woman approaches any animal to mate with it, you must kill both the woman and the animal. They must surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.
17AND A MAN WHO HE WILL TAKE <OBJ.> SISTER HIS [THE] DAUGHTER OF FATHER HIS OR [THE] DAUGHTER OF MOTHER HIS AND HE WILL SEE <OBJ.> NAKEDNESS HER AND SHE SHE WILL SEE <OBJ.> NAKEDNESS HIS [IS] A SHAME IT AND THEY WILL BE CUT OFF TO [THE] EYES OF [THE] SONS OF PEOPLE THEIR [THE] NAKEDNESS OF SISTER HIS HE HAS UNCOVERED INIQUITY HIS HE WILL BEAR 17If a man marries his sister, whether the daughter of his father or of his mother and they have sexual relations,*NoteCloseLiterally and he sees her nakedness and she sees his nakedness it is a disgrace. They must be cut off in the sight of their people. He has uncovered the nakedness of his sister; he shall bear his iniquity.
18AND A MAN WHO HE WILL LIE WITH <OBJ.> A WOMAN MENSTRUATING AND HE WILL UNCOVER <OBJ.> NAKEDNESS HER <OBJ.> SPRING HER HE HAS MADE NAKED AND SHE SHE HAS UNCOVERED <OBJ.> [THE] SPRING OF BLOOD<S> HER AND THEY WILL BE CUT OFF BOTH OF THEM FROM AMONG PEOPLE THEIR 18If a man lies with a menstruating woman and has sexual relations with her*NoteCloseLiterally uncovers her nakedness; similarly in verse 19 he has exposed the source of her flow, and she has uncovered the source of her blood. Both of them must be cut off from among their people.
19AND [THE] NAKEDNESS OF [THE] SISTER OF MOTHER YOUR AND [THE] SISTER OF FATHER YOUR NOT YOU WILL UNCOVER FOR <OBJ.> RELATIVE HIS HE HAS MADE NAKED INIQUITY THEIR THEY WILL BEAR 19You must not have sexual relations with the sister of your mother or your father for it is exposing one’s own kin; both shall bear their iniquity.
20AND A MAN WHO HE WILL LIE WITH <OBJ.> AUNT HIS [THE] NAKEDNESS OF UNCLE HIS HE HAS UNCOVERED SIN THEIR THEY WILL BEAR CHILDLESS THEY WILL DIE 20If a man lies with his uncle’s wife, he has uncovered the nakedness of his uncle. They will bear their sin; they shall die childless.
21AND A MAN WHO HE WILL TAKE <OBJ.> [THE] WIFE OF BROTHER HIS [IS] IMPURITY IT [THE] NAKEDNESS OF BROTHER HIS HE HAS UNCOVERED CHILDLESS THEY WILL BE 21If a man marries his brother’s wife, it is an act of impurity. He has uncovered the nakedness of his brother; they shall be childless.
22AND YOU WILL KEEP <OBJ.> ALL STATUTES MY AND <OBJ.> ALL JUDGMENTS MY AND YOU WILL DO <OBJ.> THEM AND NOT IT WILL VOMIT UP <OBJ.> YOU THE LAND WHERE I [AM] ABOUT TO BRING <OBJ.> YOU THERE TOWARDS TO DWELL IN <THE> IT Distinguish between Clean and Unclean 22You are therefore to keep all My statutes and ordinances so that the land where I am bringing you to live will not vomit you out.
23AND NOT YOU WILL WALK IN [THE] STATUTES OF THE NATION WHICH I [AM] ABOUT TO SEND AWAY FROM BEFORE YOU FOR <OBJ.> ALL THESE [THINGS] THEY HAVE DONE AND I LOATHED <IN> <THE> THEM 23You must not follow the statutes of the nations I am driving out before you. Because they did all these things, I abhorred them.
24AND I HAVE SAID TO <THE> YOU YOU YOU WILL TAKE POSSESSION OF <OBJ.> GROUND THEIR AND I I WILL GIVE IT TO <THE> YOU TO TAKE POSSESSION OF <OBJ.> IT A LAND FLOWING OF MILK AND HONEY I [AM] YAHWEH GOD YOUR WHO I HAVE SEPARATED <OBJ.> YOU FROM THE PEOPLES 24But I have told you that you will inherit their land, since I will give it to you as an inheritance— a land flowing with milk and honey. I am the LORD your God, who has set you apart from the peoples.
25AND YOU WILL SEPARATE BETWEEN THE ANIMAL[S] <THE> PURE AND <THE> UNCLEAN AND BETWEEN THE BIRD[S] <THE> UNCLEAN AND <THE> PURE AND NOT YOU WILL MAKE DETESTABLE <OBJ.> SELVES YOUR BY <THE> ANIMAL[S] AND BY <THE> BIRD[S] AND BY ALL THAT IT CREEPS THE GROUND WHICH I HAVE SEPARATED FOR <THE> YOU TO DECLARE UNCLEAN 25You are therefore to distinguish between clean and unclean animals and birds. Do not become contaminated by any animal or bird, or by anything that crawls on the ground; I have set these apart as unclean for you.
26AND YOU WILL BE TO <THE> ME HOLY FOR [AM] HOLY I YAHWEH AND I HAVE SEPARATED <OBJ.> YOU FROM THE PEOPLES TO BELONG TO <THE> ME 26You are to be holy to Me because I, the LORD, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be My own.
27AND A MAN OR A WOMAN THAT HE WILL BE AMONG <THE> THEM A NECROMANCER OR A SOOTHSAYER CERTAINLY <TO DIE> THEY WILL BE PUT TO DEATH WITH <THE> STONE[S] PEOPLE WILL STONE <OBJ.> THEM BLOOD<S> THEIR [ARE] ON <THE> THEM 27A man or a woman who is a medium or spiritist must surely be put to death They shall be stoned; their blood is upon them.’”
