24AND HE SPOKE MOSES TO AARON AND TO SONS HIS AND TO ALL [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 24Moses told this to Aaron and his sons and to all the Israelites.
1AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES <TO> SAYING Restrictions against the Unclean 1Then the LORD said to Moses,
2SPEAK TO AARON AND TO SONS HIS SO THEY MAY SEPARATE THEMSELVES FROM [THE] HOLY THINGS OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND NOT THEY WILL PROFANE <OBJ.> [THE] NAME OF HOLINESS MY WHICH THEY [ARE] SETTING APART AS HOLY TO <THE> ME I [AM] YAHWEH 2“Tell Aaron and his sons to treat with respect the sacred offerings that the Israelites have consecrated to Me so that they do not profane My holy name. I am the LORD.
3SAY TO THEM TO GENERATIONS YOUR EVERY MAN WHO HE WILL DRAW NEAR FROM ALL OFFSPRING YOUR TO THE HOLY THINGS WHICH THEY WILL SET APART AS HOLY [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL TO YAHWEH AND UNCLEANNESS HIS [IS] ON HIM AND IT WILL BE CUT OFF THE PERSON <THE> THAT FROM TO BEFORE ME I [AM] YAHWEH 3Tell them that for the generations to come, if any of their descendants in a state of uncleanness approaches the sacred offerings that the Israelites consecrate to the LORD, that person must be cut off from My presence. I am the LORD.
4A MAN A MAN FROM [THE] OFFSPRING OF AARON AND HE [IS] HAVING A SERIOUS SKIN DISEASE OR [IS] DISCHARGING IN THE HOLY THINGS NOT HE WILL EAT UNTIL THAT HE WILL BE PURE AND WHO [-EVER] TOUCHES <IN> ANY [THING] UNCLEAN OF A CORPSE OR ANYONE WHOM IT WILL GO OUT FROM HIM A LAYING OF SEED 4If a descendant of Aaron has a skin disease*NoteCloseForms of the Hebrew tzaraath, traditionally translated as leprosy, were used for various skin diseases; see Leviticus 13. or a discharge, he may not eat the sacred offerings until he is clean. Whoever touches anything defiled by a corpse or by a man who has an emission of semen,
5OR ANYONE WHO HE WILL TOUCH <IN> ANY SWARMING THING WHICH IT IS UNCLEAN TO <THE> HIM OR <IN> ANYONE WHO HE IS UNCLEAN TO <THE> HIM TO ALL UNCLEANNESS HIS 5or whoever touches a crawling creature or a person that makes him unclean whatever the uncleanness may be—
6ANYONE WHO IT WILL TOUCH <IN> <THE> IT AND IT WILL BE UNCLEAN UNTIL THE EVENING AND NOT HE WILL EAT ANY OF THE HOLY THINGS THAT EXCEPT HE HAS WASHED BODY HIS WITH <THE> WATER 6the man who touches any of these will remain unclean until evening. He must not eat from the sacred offerings unless he has bathed himself with water.
7AND IT WILL GO THE SUN AND HE WILL BE CLEAN AND AFTER HE WILL EAT ANY OF THE HOLY THINGS FOR [IS] FOOD HIS IT 7When the sun has set, he will become clean, and then he may eat from the sacred offerings, for they are his food.
8A CARCASS AND A TORN ANIMAL NOT HE WILL EAT TO BECOME UNCLEAN BY <THE> IT I [AM] YAHWEH 8He must not eat anything found dead or torn by wild animals, which would make him unclean I am the LORD.
9AND THEY WILL KEEP <OBJ.> DUTY MY AND NOT THEY WILL BEAR ON IT SIN AND THEY WILL DIE BY <THE> IT FOR THEY WILL PROFANE IT I [AM] YAHWEH [WHO] SETS APART AS HOLY THEM 9The priests must keep My charge, lest they bear the guilt and die because they profane it. I am the LORD who sanctifies them.
10AND ANY STRANGER NOT HE WILL EAT A HOLY THING A RESIDENT ALIEN OF A PRIEST AND A HIRED LABORER NOT HE WILL EAT A HOLY THING 10No one outside a priest’s family may eat the sacred offering, nor may the guest of a priest or his hired hand eat it.
11AND A PRIEST IF HE WILL ACQUIRE A PERSON [THE] ACQUISITION OF MONEY HIS HE HE WILL EAT IN <THE> IT AND [THE] ONE BORN OF HOUSEHOLD HIS THEY THEY WILL EAT IN FOOD HIS 11But if a priest buys a slave with his own money, or if a slave is born in his household, that slave may eat his food.
12AND A DAUGHTER OF A PRIEST IF SHE WILL BELONG TO A MAN STRANGE SHE IN [THE] CONTRIBUTION OF THE HOLY THINGS NOT SHE WILL EAT 12If the priest’s daughter is married to a man other than a priest, she is not to eat of the sacred contributions.
13AND A DAUGHTER OF A PRIEST IF SHE WILL BE A WIDOW AND A DIVORCED [WOMAN] AND OFFSPRING NOT [BELONGS] TO <THE> HER AND SHE WILL RETURN TO [THE] HOUSE OF FATHER HER LIKE YOUTH<S> HER ANY OF [THE] FOOD OF FATHER HER SHE WILL EAT AND ANY STRANGER NOT HE WILL EAT IN <THE> IT 13But if a priest’s daughter with no children becomes widowed or divorced and returns to her father’s house, she may share her father’s food as in her youth. But no outsider may share it.
14AND ANYONE IF HE WILL EAT A HOLY THING BY INADVERTENCE AND HE WILL ADD FIFTH ITS TO IT AND HE WILL GIVE TO THE PRIEST <OBJ.> THE HOLY THING 14If anyone eats a sacred offering in error, he must add a fifth to its value and give the sacred offering to the priest.
15AND NOT THEY WILL PROFANE <OBJ.> [THE] HOLY THINGS OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <OBJ.> WHICH THEY WILL LIFT UP TO YAHWEH 15The priests must not profane the sacred offerings that the Israelites present to the LORD
16AND THEY WILL CAUSE TO BEAR <OBJ.> THEM INIQUITY OF GUILT WHEN EAT THEY <OBJ.> HOLY THINGS THEIR FOR I [AM] YAHWEH [WHO] SETS APART AS HOLY THEM 16by allowing the people to eat the sacred offerings and thus to bear the punishment for guilt. For I am the LORD who sanctifies them.”
18SPEAK TO AARON AND TO SONS HIS AND TO ALL [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND YOU WILL SAY TO THEM A PERSON A PERSON FROM [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL AND OF THE SOJOURNER[S] IN ISRAEL WHO HE WILL PRESENT PRESENT HIS FOR ALL VOWS THEIR AND FOR ALL FREEWILL OFFERINGS THEIR WHICH THEY WILL PRESENT TO YAHWEH TO A BURNT OFFERING 18“Speak to Aaron and his sons and all the Israelites and tell them, ‘Any man of the house of Israel or any foreign resident who presents a gift for a burnt offering to the LORD, whether to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering,
19FOR ACCEPTANCE YOUR UNBLEMISHED A MALE AMONG THE CATTLE AMONG THE YOUNG RAMS AND AMONG THE GOATS 19must offer an unblemished male from the cattle, sheep, or goats in order for it to be accepted on your behalf.
20ALL THAT [IS] IN <THE> IT A BLEMISH NOT YOU WILL PRESENT FOR NOT FOR ACCEPTANCE IT WILL BE OF YOU 20You must not present anything with a defect, because it will not be accepted on your behalf.
21AND ANYONE IF HE WILL PRESENT A SACRIFICE OF PEACE OFFERING<S> TO YAHWEH TO FULFILL A VOW OR TO A FREEWILL OFFERING IN THE HERD OR IN THE FLOCK UNBLEMISHED IT WILL BE FOR ACCEPTANCE ANY BLEMISH NOT IT WILL BE IN <THE> IT 21When a man presents a peace offering to the LORD from the herd or flock to fulfill a vow or as a freewill offering, it must be without blemish or defect to be acceptable.
22BLINDNESS OR A FRACTURE OR A MUTILATION OR A WART OR ECZEMA OR SCABS NOT YOU WILL PRESENT THESE TO YAHWEH AND A FIRE OFFERING NOT YOU MUST GIVE ANY OF <THE> THEM ON THE ALTAR TO YAHWEH 22You are not to present to the LORD any animal that is blind, injured, or maimed, or anything with a running sore, a festering rash, or a scab; you must not put any of these on the altar as a food offering to the LORD.
23AND AN OX AND A SHEEP [HAVING] SOMETHING ENLARGED AND [HAVING] SOMETHING STUNTED A FREEWILL OFFERING YOU WILL OFFER <OBJ.> IT AND FOR A VOW NOT IT WILL BE ACCEPTED 23You may present as a freewill offering an ox*NoteCloseOr a bull or a cow or sheep that has a deformed or stunted limb, but it is not acceptable in fulfillment of a vow.
24AND [ONE WHICH] IS SQUASHED AND [ONE WHICH] IS CRUSHED AND [ONE WHICH] IS TORN AND [ONE WHICH] IS CUT NOT YOU WILL PRESENT TO YAHWEH AND IN LAND YOUR NOT YOU WILL DO [IT] 24You are not to present to the LORD an animal whose testicles are bruised, crushed, torn, or cut; you are not to sacrifice them in your land.
25AND FROM [THE] HAND OF A SON OF FOREIGNNESS NOT YOU MUST PRESENT <OBJ.> [THE] FOOD OF GOD YOUR ANY OF ALL THESE [ANIMALS] FOR DISFIGUREMENT THEIR [IS] IN <THE> THEM A BLEMISH [IS] IN <THE> THEM NOT THEY WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR <THE> YOU 25Neither you nor a foreigner shall present food to your God from any such animal. They will not be accepted on your behalf, because they are deformed and flawed.’”
27AN OX OR A YOUNG RAM OR A GOAT IF IT WILL BE BORN AND IT WILL BE SEVEN DAYS UNDER MOTHER ITS AND FROM [THE] DAY <THE> EIGHTH AND ONWARDS IT WILL BE ACCEPTED TO A PRESENT OF A FIRE OFFERING TO YAHWEH 27“When an ox,*NoteCloseOr a calf a sheep, or a goat is born, it must remain with its mother for seven days. From the eighth day on, it will be acceptable as a food offering presented to the LORD.
28AND AN OX OR A SHEEP <OBJ.> IT AND <OBJ.> YOUNG ITS NOT YOU MUST CUT [THE] THROAT OF IN A DAY ONE 28But you must not slaughter an ox*NoteCloseOr a cow or a sheep on the same day as its young.
29AND IF YOU WILL SACRIFICE A SACRIFICE OF THANKSGIVING TO YAHWEH FOR ACCEPTANCE YOUR YOU WILL SACRIFICE [IT] 29When you sacrifice a thank offering to the LORD, offer it so that it may be acceptable on your behalf.
30ON THE DAY <THE> THAT IT WILL BE EATEN NOT YOU WILL LEAVE OVER ANY OF IT UNTIL MORNING I [AM] YAHWEH 30It must be eaten that same day. Do not leave any of it until morning. I am the LORD.
31AND YOU WILL KEEP COMMANDMENTS MY AND YOU WILL DO <OBJ.> THEM I [AM] YAHWEH 31You are to keep My commandments and practice them. I am the LORD.
32AND NOT YOU WILL PROFANE <OBJ.> [THE] NAME OF HOLINESS MY AND I WILL SHOW MYSELF HOLY IN AMONG [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL I [AM] YAHWEH [WHO] SETS APART AS HOLY YOU 32You must not profane My holy name. I must be acknowledged as holy among the Israelites. I am the LORD who sanctifies you,
33WHO BROUGHT OUT <OBJ.> YOU FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT TO BECOME FOR <THE> YOU <INTO> GOD I [AM] YAHWEH 33who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God. I am the LORD.”
