1NOT YOU MUST MAKE FOR <THE> YOURSELVES WORTHLESS IDOLS AND AN IDOL AND A SACRED PILLAR NOT YOU MUST SET UP FOR <THE> YOURSELVES AND A STONE OF A CARVED IMAGE NOT YOU MUST MAKE IN LAND YOUR TO BOW DOWN TO IT FOR I [AM] YAHWEH GOD YOUR Additional Blessings of Obedience 1“You must not make idols for yourselves or set up a carved image or sacred pillar; you must not place a sculpted stone in your land to bow down to it. For I am the LORD your God.
2<OBJ.> SABBATHS MY YOU WILL KEEP AND SANCTUARY MY YOU WILL FEAR I [AM] YAHWEH 2You must keep My Sabbaths and have reverence for My sanctuary. I am the LORD.
3IF IN STATUTES MY YOU WILL WALK AND <OBJ.> COMMANDMENTS MY YOU WILL KEEP AND YOU WILL DO <OBJ.> THEM 3If you follow My statutes and carefully keep My commandments,
4AND I WILL GIVE RAINS YOUR AT TIME THEIR AND IT WILL GIVE THE LAND PRODUCE ITS AND [THE] TREE[S] OF THE FIELD IT WILL GIVE FRUIT ITS 4I will give you rains in their season, and the land will yield its produce, and the trees of the field will bear their fruit.
5AND IT WILL REACH OF YOU THRESHING <OBJ.> GRAPE HARVEST AND GRAPE HARVEST IT WILL REACH <OBJ.> SEED AND YOU WILL EAT BREAD YOUR TO ABUNDANCE AND YOU WILL DWELL TO SECURITY IN LAND YOUR 5Your threshing will continue until the grape harvest, and the grape harvest will continue until sowing time; you will have your fill of food to eat and will dwell securely in your land.
6AND I WILL GIVE PEACE IN THE LAND AND YOU WILL LIE DOWN AND THERE NOT [WILL BE ONE WHO] TERRIFIES AND I WILL CAUSE TO CEASE ANIMAL[S] WILD FROM THE LAND AND A SWORD NOT IT WILL PASS IN LAND YOUR 6And I will give peace to the land, and you will lie down with nothing to fear. I will rid the land of dangerous animals, and no sword will pass through your land.
7AND YOU WILL PURSUE <OBJ.> ENEMIES YOUR AND THEY WILL FALL <TO> BEFORE YOU TO THE SWORD 7You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you.
8AND THEY WILL PURSUE OF <THE> YOU FIVE ONE HUNDRED AND ONE HUNDRED OF <THE> YOU TEN THOUSAND THEY WILL PURSUE AND THEY WILL FALL ENEMIES YOUR <TO> BEFORE YOU TO THE SWORD 8Five of you will pursue a hundred, and a hundred of you will pursue ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.
9AND I WILL TURN TO YOU AND I WILL MAKE FRUITFUL <OBJ.> YOU AND I WILL MULTIPLY <OBJ.> YOU AND I WILL ESTABLISH <OBJ.> COVENANT MY WITH YOU 9I will turn toward you and make you fruitful and multiply you, and I will establish My covenant with you.
10AND YOU WILL EAT OLD HARVEST GROWING OLD AND OLD HARVEST FROM BEFORE [THE] NEW [HARVEST] YOU WILL BRING OUT 10You will still be eating the old supply of grain when you need to clear it out to make room for the new.
11AND I WILL PUT DWELLING PLACE MY IN MIDST OF YOU AND NOT IT WILL ABHOR SELF MY <OBJ.> YOU 11And I will make My dwelling place*NoteCloseOr My tabernacle among you, and My soul will not despise*NoteCloseOr reject; also in verse 30 you.
12AND I WILL WALK ABOUT IN MIDST OF YOU AND I WILL BECOME FOR <THE> YOU <INTO> GOD AND YOU YOU WILL BECOME FOR <THE> ME <INTO> A PEOPLE 12I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be My people.*NoteCloseCited in 2 Corinthians 6:16
13I [AM] YAHWEH GOD YOUR WHO I BROUGHT OUT <OBJ.> YOU FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT FROM BEING TO <THE> THEM SLAVES AND I BROKE [THE] BARS OF YOKE YOUR AND I MADE WALK <OBJ.> YOU UPRIGHT 13I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians. I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk in uprightness.
14AND IF NOT YOU WILL LISTEN TO <THE> ME AND NOT YOU WILL DO <OBJ.> ALL THE COMMANDMENTS <THE> THESE Punishments for Disobedience (Leviticus 20:1–9; Deuteronomy 28:15–68) 14If, however, you fail to obey Me and to carry out all these commandments,
15AND IF <IN> STATUTES MY YOU WILL REJECT AND IF <OBJ.> JUDGMENTS MY IT WILL ABHOR SELF YOUR TO NOT TO DO <OBJ.> ALL COMMANDMENTS MY TO BREAK YOU <OBJ.> COVENANT MY 15and if you reject My statutes, despise My ordinances, and neglect to carry out all My commandments, and so break My covenant,
16ALSO I I WILL DO THIS TO <THE> YOU AND I WILL APPOINT ON YOU SUDDEN TERROR <OBJ.> <THE> CONSUMPTION AND <OBJ.> <THE> FEVER [WHICH] CAUSE TO FAIL [THE] EYES AND [WHICH] MAKE PINE AWAY [THE] LIFE AND YOU WILL SOW TO <THE> EMPTINESS SEED YOUR AND THEY WILL EAT IT ENEMIES YOUR 16then this is what I will do to you: I will bring upon you sudden terror wasting disease, and fever that will destroy your sight and drain your life. You will sow your seed in vain, because your enemies will eat it.
17AND I WILL SET FACE MY ON <THE> YOU AND YOU WILL BE DEFEATED <TO> BEFORE ENEMIES YOUR AND THEY WILL RULE OVER <THE> YOU [THOSE WHO] HATE YOU AND YOU WILL FLEE AND THERE NOT [IS ONE WHO] PURSUES <OBJ.> YOU 17And I will set My face against you, so that you will be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you will rule over you, and you will flee when no one pursues you.
18AND IF UP TO THESE [THINGS] NOT YOU WILL LISTEN TO <THE> ME AND I WILL REPEAT TO DISCIPLINE <OBJ.> YOU SEVENFOLD ON SINS YOUR 18And if after all this you will not obey Me, I will proceed to punish you sevenfold for your sins.
19AND I WILL BREAK <OBJ.> [THE] PRIDE OF STRENGTH YOUR AND I WILL MAKE <OBJ.> HEAVENS YOUR LIKE <THE> IRON AND <OBJ.> LAND YOUR LIKE <THE> BRONZE 19I will break down your stubborn pride and make your sky like iron and your land like bronze,
20AND IT WILL BE CONSUMED TO <THE> EMPTINESS STRENGTH YOUR AND NOT IT WILL GIVE LAND YOUR <OBJ.> PRODUCE ITS AND [THE] TREE[S] OF THE LAND NOT IT WILL GIVE FRUIT ITS 20and your strength will be spent in vain. For your land will not yield its produce, and the trees of the land will not bear their fruit.
21AND IF YOU WILL WALK WITH ME CONTRARINESS AND NOT YOU WILL BE WILLING TO LISTEN TO <THE> ME AND I WILL ADD TO YOU A BLOW SEVENFOLD ACCORDING TO SINS YOUR 21If you walk in hostility toward Me and refuse to obey Me, I will multiply your plagues seven times, according to your sins.
22AND I WILL SEND AMONG <THE> YOU <OBJ.> [THE] ANIMAL[S] OF THE FIELD AND IT WILL MAKE CHILDLESS <OBJ.> YOU AND IT WILL CUT OFF <OBJ.> LIVESTOCK YOUR AND IT WILL DIMINISH <OBJ.> YOU AND THEY WILL BE DESOLATE ROADS YOUR 22I will send wild animals against you to rob you of your children, destroy your livestock, and reduce your numbers, until your roads lie desolate.
23AND IF BY THESE [THINGS] NOT YOU WILL LET YOURSELF BE DISCIPLINED BY <THE> ME AND YOU WILL WALK WITH ME CONTRARINESS 23And if in spite of these things you do not accept My discipline, but continue to walk in hostility toward Me,
24AND I WILL WALK ALSO I WITH YOU IN CONTRARINESS AND I WILL STRIKE DOWN <OBJ.> YOU ALSO I SEVENFOLD ON SINS YOUR 24then I will act with hostility toward you, and I will strike you sevenfold for your sins.
25AND I WILL BRING ON YOU A SWORD [WHICH WILL] AVENGE VENGEANCE OF A COVENANT AND YOU WILL GATHER TO CITIES YOUR AND I WILL SEND A PESTILENCE IN MIDST OF YOU AND YOU WILL BE GIVEN IN [THE] HAND OF AN ENEMY 25And I will bring a sword against you to execute the vengeance of the covenant. Though you withdraw into your cities, I will send a plague among you, and you will be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
26WHEN BREAK I OF YOU STAFF OF BREAD AND THEY WILL BAKE TEN WOMEN BREAD YOUR IN AN OVEN ONE AND THEY WILL BRING BACK BREAD YOUR BY <THE> WEIGHT AND YOU WILL EAT AND NOT YOU WILL BE SATISFIED 26When I cut off your supply*NoteCloseHebrew staff of bread, ten women will bake your bread in a single oven and dole out your bread by weight, so that you will eat but not be satisfied.
27AND IF IN THIS NOT YOU WILL LISTEN TO <THE> ME AND YOU WILL WALK WITH ME IN CONTRARINESS 27But if in spite of all this you do not obey Me, but continue to walk in hostility toward Me,
28AND I WILL WALK WITH YOU IN ANGER OF CONTRARINESS AND I WILL DISCIPLINE <OBJ.> YOU ALSO I SEVENFOLD ON SINS YOUR 28then I will walk in fury against you, and I, even I, will punish you sevenfold for your sins.
29AND YOU WILL EAT [THE] FLESH OF SONS YOUR AND [THE] FLESH OF DAUGHTERS YOUR YOU WILL EAT 29You will eat the flesh of your own sons and daughters.
30AND I WILL DESTROY <OBJ.> HIGH PLACES YOUR AND I WILL CUT DOWN <OBJ.> INCENSE ALTARS YOUR AND I WILL PUT <OBJ.> CORPSES YOUR ON [THE] CORPSES OF IDOLS YOUR AND IT WILL ABHOR SELF MY <OBJ.> YOU 30I will destroy your high places, cut down your incense altars, and heap your lifeless bodies on the lifeless remains of your idols; and My soul will despise you.
31AND I WILL MAKE <OBJ.> CITIES YOUR A WASTE PLACE AND I WILL DEVASTATE <OBJ.> SANCTUARIES YOUR AND NOT I WILL SMELL <IN> [THE] ODOR OF SOOTHING YOUR 31I will reduce your cities to rubble and lay waste your sanctuaries, and I will refuse to smell the pleasing aroma of your sacrifices.
32AND I WILL DEVASTATE I <OBJ.> THE LAND AND THEY WILL BE APPALLED ON IT ENEMIES YOUR WHO DWELL IN <THE> IT 32And I will lay waste the land, so that your enemies who dwell in it will be appalled.
33AND <OBJ.> YOU I WILL SCATTER AMONG THE NATIONS AND I WILL DRAW AFTER YOU A SWORD AND IT WILL BE LAND YOUR A DESOLATION AND CITIES YOUR THEY WILL BE A WASTE PLACE 33But I will scatter you among the nations and will draw out a sword after you as your land becomes desolate and your cities are laid waste.
34THEN IT WILL ACCEPT THE LAND <OBJ.> SABBATHS ITS ALL [THE] DAYS OF BEING MADE DESOLATE IT AND YOU [WILL BE] IN [THE] LAND OF ENEMIES YOUR THEN IT WILL CEASE THE LAND AND IT WILL ACCEPT <OBJ.> SABBATHS ITS 34Then the land shall enjoy its Sabbaths all the days it lies desolate, while you are in the land of your enemies. At that time the land will rest and enjoy its Sabbaths.
35ALL [THE] DAYS OF BEING MADE DESOLATE IT IT WILL CEASE <OBJ.> WHICH NOT IT CEASED IN SABBATHS YOUR WHEN DWELT YOU ON IT 35As long as it lies desolate, the land will have the rest it did not receive during the Sabbaths when you lived in it.
36AND THOSE [WHO] REMAIN AMONG <THE> YOU AND I WILL BRING DESPAIR IN HEART THEIR IN [THE] LAND OF ENEMIES THEIR AND IT WILL PURSUE <OBJ.> THEM [THE] SOUND OF A LEAF DRIVEN ABOUT AND THEY WILL FLEE A FLIGHT OF A SWORD AND THEY WILL FALL AND THERE NOT [IS ONE WHO] PURSUES 36As for those of you who survive, I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies, so that even the sound of a windblown leaf will put them to flight. And they will flee as one flees the sword, and fall when no one pursues them.
37AND THEY WILL STUMBLE EACH OVER BROTHER HIS AS FROM BEFORE A SWORD AND [IS ONE WHO] PURSUES THERE NOT AND NOT IT WILL BELONG TO <THE> YOU POWER TO STAND <TO> BEFORE ENEMIES YOUR 37They will stumble over one another as before the sword, though no one is behind them. So you will not be able to stand against your enemies.
38AND YOU WILL PERISH AMONG THE NATIONS AND IT WILL CONSUME <OBJ.> YOU [THE] LAND OF ENEMIES YOUR 38You will perish among the nations, and the land of your enemies will consume you.
39AND THOSE [WHO] REMAIN AMONG <THE> YOU THEY WILL ROT AWAY IN INIQUITY THEIR IN [THE] LAND OF ENEMIES YOUR AND ALSO IN [THE] INIQUITIES OF ANCESTORS THEIR WITH THEM THEY WILL ROT AWAY 39Those of you who survive in the lands of your enemies will waste away in their iniquity and will decay in the sins of their fathers.
40AND THEY WILL CONFESS <OBJ.> INIQUITY THEIR AND <OBJ.> [THE] INIQUITY OF ANCESTORS THEIR BY UNFAITHFULNESS THEIR WHICH THEY ACTED UNFAITHFULLY AGAINST <THE> ME AND ALSO THAT THEY WALKED WITH ME IN CONTRARINESS God Remembers Those Who Repent 40But if they will confess their iniquity and that of their fathers in the unfaithfulness that they practiced against Me, by which they have also walked in hostility toward Me—
41ALSO I I WILL WALK WITH THEM IN CONTRARINESS AND I WILL BRING <OBJ.> THEM IN [THE] LAND OF ENEMIES THEIR OR THEN IT WILL HUMBLE ITSELF HEART THEIR <THE> UNCIRCUMCISED AND THEN THEY WILL ACCEPT <OBJ.> INIQUITY THEIR 41and I acted with hostility toward them and brought them into the land of their enemies— and if their uncircumcised hearts will be humbled and they will make amends for their iniquity,
42AND I WILL REMEMBER <OBJ.> COVENANT OF MY JACOB AND ALSO <OBJ.> COVENANT OF MY ISAAC AND ALSO <OBJ.> COVENANT OF MY ABRAHAM I WILL REMEMBER AND THE LAND I WILL REMEMBER 42then I will remember My covenant with Jacob and My covenant with Isaac and My covenant with Abraham, and I will remember the land.
43AND THE LAND IT WILL BE FORSAKEN FROM <THE> THEM AND IT MAY ACCEPT <OBJ.> SABBATHS ITS WHEN IS MADE DESOLATE IT FROM <THE> THEM AND THEY THEY WILL ACCEPT <OBJ.> INIQUITY THEIR BECAUSE AND BY CAUSE <IN> JUDGMENTS MY THEY REJECTED AND <OBJ.> STATUTES MY IT ABHORRED SELF THEIR 43For the land will be abandoned by them, and it will enjoy its Sabbaths by lying desolate without them. And they will pay the penalty for their iniquity, because they rejected My ordinances and abhorred My statutes.
44AND ALSO ALSO THIS WHEN ARE THEY IN [THE] LAND OF ENEMIES THEIR NOT I WILL REJECT THEM AND NOT I WILL ABHOR THEM TO MAKE AN END OF THEM TO BREAK COVENANT MY WITH THEM FOR I [AM] YAHWEH GOD THEIR 44Yet in spite of this, when they are in the land of their enemies, I will not reject or despise them so as to destroy them and break My covenant with them; for I am the LORD their God.
45AND I WILL REMEMBER TO <THE> THEM [THE] COVENANT OF [THE] FOREFATHERS WHOM I BROUGHT OUT <OBJ.> THEM FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT TO [THE] EYES OF THE NATIONS TO BECOME FOR <THE> THEM <INTO> GOD I [AM] YAHWEH 45But for their sake I will remember the covenant with their fathers, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the nations, that I might be their God. I am the LORD.”
46THESE [ARE] THE STATUTES AND THE JUDGMENTS AND THE LEGAL [PROCEDURES] WHICH HE GAVE YAHWEH BETWEEN HIMSELF AND BETWEEN [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL ON [THE] MOUNTAIN OF SINAI BY [THE] HAND OF MOSES 46These are the statutes, ordinances, and laws that the LORD established between Himself and the Israelites through Moses on Mount Sinai.
