23AND HAVING COME HE DWELT IN A CITY BEING NAMED NAZARETH, SO THAT IT MAY BE FULFILLED THAT HAVING BEEN SPOKEN THROUGH THE PROPHETS THAT A NAZARENE HE WILL BE CALLED. 23and he went and lived in a town called Nazareth. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophets: “He will be called a Nazarene.”

4HIMSELF NOW <THE> JOHN WAS HAVING THE GARMENT OF HIM OF HAIR OF A CAMEL AND A BELT OF LEATHER AROUND THE WAIST OF HIM; <THE> AND [THE] FOOD WAS OF HIM LOCUSTS AND HONEY WILD. 4John wore a garment of camel’s hair, with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
5AT THAT TIME WERE GOING OUT TO HIM JERUSALEM AND ALL <THE> JUDEA AND ALL THE REGION AROUND THE JORDAN, 5People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region around the Jordan.
6AND WERE BEING BAPTIZED IN THE JORDAN RIVER BY HIM CONFESSING THE SINS OF THEM. 6Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.
7HAVING SEEN NOW MANY OF THE PHARISEES AND SADDUCEES COMING TO THE BAPTISM OF HIM HE SAID TO THEM; BROOD OF VIPERS, WHO FOREWARNED YOU TO FLEE FROM THE COMING WRATH? 7But when John saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his place of baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
8DO PRODUCE THEREFORE FRUIT WORTHY <THE> OF REPENTANCE. 8Produce fruit, then, in keeping with repentance.
9AND NOT MAY YOU PRESUME TO SAY WITHIN YOURSELVES; [AS] FATHER WE HAVE <THE> ABRAHAM; I SAY FOR TO YOU THAT ABLE IS <THE> GOD OUT OF <THE> STONES THESE TO RAISE UP CHILDREN <THE> TO ABRAHAM. 9And do not presume to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father. ’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.
10ALREADY NOW AND THE AX TO THE ROOT OF THE TREES IS APPLIED. EVERY THEREFORE TREE NOT PRODUCING FRUIT GOOD IS CUT DOWN AND INTO [THE] FIRE IS THROWN. 10The axe lies ready at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.
11I MYSELF INDEED YOU BAPTIZE WITH WATER TO REPENTANCE, <THE> HOWEVER AFTER ME IS COMING MIGHTIER THAN I HE IS OF WHOM NOT I AM FIT THE SANDALS TO CARRY; HE HIMSELF YOU WILL BAPTIZE WITH [THE] SPIRIT HOLY AND WITH FIRE; 11I baptize you with water*NoteCloseOr in water for repentance, but after me will come One more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. 12WHOSE <THE> WINNOWING FORK [IS] IN THE HAND OF HIM, AND HE WILL CLEAR THE THRESHING FLOOR OF HIM AND WILL GATHER THE WHEAT OF HIM INTO THE BARN OF HIM THE BUT CHAFF HE WILL BURN UP WITH FIRE UNQUENCHABLE. 12His winnowing fork is in His hand to clear His threshing floor and to gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire. ”
13THEN COMES <THE> JESUS FROM <THE> GALILEE TO THE JORDAN UNTO <THE> JOHN <THE> TO BE BAPTIZED BY HIM. The Baptism of Jesus (Mark 1:9–11; Luke 3:21–22; John 1:29–34) 13At that time Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.
14<THE> BUT JOHN WAS HINDERING HIM SAYING; I MYSELF NEED HAVE BY YOU TO BE BAPTIZED, AND YOU YOURSELF COME TO ME? 14But John tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me? ”
15ANSWERING HOWEVER <THE> JESUS SAID UNTO HIM; DO PERMIT [IT] NOW; THUS FOR FITTING IT IS TO US TO FULFILL ALL RIGHTEOUSNESS. THEN HE PERMITS HIM. 15“Let it be so now, ” Jesus replied “It is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness in this way. ” Then John permitted Him.
16AND HAVING BEEN BAPTIZED NOW <THE> JESUS IMMEDIATELY WENT UP FROM THE WATER. AND BEHOLD WERE OPENED TO HIM THE HEAVENS, AND HE SAW THE SPIRIT <THE> OF GOD DESCENDING AS A DOVE AND ALIGHTING UPON HIM. 16As soon as Jesus was baptized, He went up out of the water. Suddenly the heavens were opened,*NoteCloseNA, BYZ, and TR the heavens were opened to Him and He saw*NoteCloseOr and he saw; see John 1:32–33. the Spirit of God descending like a dove and resting on Him.
17AND BEHOLD A VOICE OUT OF THE HEAVENS SAYING; THIS IS THE SON OF MINE THE BELOVED IN WHOM I WAS WELL PLEASED. 17And a voice from heaven said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased! ”
