53AND WERE THROUGH ALL [TIMES] IN THE TEMPLE PRAISING AND BLESSING <THE> GOD. AMEN 53praising God continually in the temple.
1IN [THE] BEGINNING WAS THE WORD, AND THE WORD WAS WITH <THE> GOD, AND GOD WAS THE WORD. The Beginning (Genesis 1:1–2; Hebrews 11:1–3) 1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
3ALL THINGS THROUGH HIM CAME INTO BEING, AND WITHOUT HIM CAME INTO BEING NOT EVEN ONE [THING] THAT HAS COME INTO BEING. 3Through Him all things were made, and without Him nothing was made that has been made.
4IN HIM LIFE WAS, AND THE LIFE WAS THE LIGHT <THE> OF MEN, 4In Him was life, and that life was the light of men.
5AND THE LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS SHINES, AND THE DARKNESS IT NOT GRASPED [IT]. 5The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome*NoteCloseOr comprehended it.
6THERE CAME A MAN SENT FROM GOD, [THE] NAME TO HIM [WAS] JOHN. The Witness of John 6There came a man who was sent from God. His name was John.
7HE CAME AS A WITNESS THAT HE MAY TESTIFY CONCERNING THE LIGHT, THAT ALL MAY BELIEVE THROUGH HIM. 7He came as a witness to testify about the Light, so that through him everyone might believe.
8NOT WAS HE THE LIGHT, BUT THAT HE MAY WITNESS CONCERNING THE LIGHT. 8He himself was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.
9WAS THE LIGHT <THE> TRUE WHO ENLIGHTENS EVERY MAN COMING INTO THE WORLD. 9The true Light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
10IN THE WORLD HE WAS, AND THE WORLD THROUGH HIM CAME INTO BEING, AND THE WORLD HIM NOT KNEW. 10He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him.
11TO <THE> [HIS] OWN HE CAME, AND <THE> [HIS] OWN HIM NOT RECEIVED. 11He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.
12AS MANY AS HOWEVER RECEIVED HIM, HE GAVE TO THEM AUTHORITY CHILDREN OF GOD TO BE, TO THOSE BELIEVING IN THE NAME OF HIM, 12But to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God—
13WHO NOT [BORN] OF BLOOD NOR [BORN] OF WILL OF FLESH NOR [BORN] OF WILL OF MAN BUT OF GOD WERE BORN. 13children born not of blood, nor of the desire or will of man, but born of God.
14AND THE WORD FLESH BECAME AND HE DWELT AMONG US, AND WE BEHELD THE GLORY OF HIM, A GLORY AS OF AN ONLY BEGOTTEN FROM [THE] FATHER, FULL OF GRACE AND TRUTH. 16FOR FROM THE FULLNESS OF HIM WE OURSELVES ALL HAVE RECEIVED THEN GRACE FOR GRACE. 16From His fullness we have all received grace upon grace.
17FOR THE LAW THROUGH MOSES WAS GIVEN, <THE> GRACE AND <THE> TRUTH THROUGH JESUS CHRIST CAME. 17For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18GOD NO [ONE] HAS SEEN EVER YET; THE ONLY BEGOTTEN GOD WHO IS BEING IN THE BOSOM OF THE FATHER, HE HAS MADE [HIM] KNOWN. 18No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and*NoteCloseOr but the only begotten God, who; BYZ and TR but the only begotten Son, who is at the Father’s side,*NoteCloseGreek in the Father’s bosom has made Him known.

23HE WAS SAYING; I MYSELF [AM] A VOICE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS; DO MAKE STRAIGHT THE WAY OF [THE] LORD; EVEN AS SAID ISAIAH THE PROPHET. 23John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet: “I am a voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”*NoteCloseIsaiah 40:3 (see also LXX)

30HE IT IS CONCERNING WHOM I MYSELF SAID; AFTER ME COMES A MAN WHO PRECEDENCE OVER ME HAS BECAUSE BEFORE ME HE WAS. 30This is He of whom I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me. ’
31AND I MYSELF NOT KNEW HIM, BUT THAT HE MAY BE REVEALED <THE> TO ISRAEL, BECAUSE OF THIS CAME I MYSELF WITH <THE> WATER BAPTIZING. 31I myself did not know Him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that He might be revealed to Israel. ”
