23ON [THE] MOUTH OF YAHWEH THEY ENCAMPED AND ON [THE] MOUTH OF YAHWEH THEY SET OUT <OBJ.> [THE] DUTY OF YAHWEH THEY KEPT ON [THE] MOUTH OF YAHWEH BY [THE] HAND OF MOSES 23They camped at the LORD’s command, and they set out at the LORD’s command; they carried out the LORD’s charge according to His command through Moses.
2MAKE FOR <THE> YOURSELF TWO TRUMPETS OF SILVER HAMMERED WORK YOU WILL MAKE <OBJ.> THEM AND THEY WILL BE FOR <THE> YOU FOR [THE] CONVOCATION OF THE CONGREGATION AND FOR BREAKING <OBJ.> THE CAMPS 2“Make two trumpets of hammered silver to be used for calling the congregation and for having the camps set out.
3AND THEY WILL GIVE A BLAST ON <THE> THEM AND THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER TO YOU ALL THE CONGREGATION TO [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING 3When both are sounded the whole congregation is to assemble before you at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
4AND IF ON ONE [TRUMPET] THEY WILL GIVE A BLAST AND THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER TO YOU THE LEADERS [THE] HEADS OF [THE] FAMILIES OF ISRAEL 4But if only one is sounded, then the leaders, the heads of the clans of Israel, are to gather before you.
5AND YOU WILL GIVE A BLAST AN ALARM AND THEY WILL SET OUT THE CAMPS WHICH ENCAMP EAST -WARD 5When you sound short blasts, the camps that lie on the east side are to set out.
6AND YOU WILL GIVE A BLAST AN ALARM SECOND AND THEY WILL SET OUT THE CAMPS WHICH ENCAMP SOUTH -WARD AN ALARM THEY WILL GIVE A BLAST FOR SETTINGS OUT THEIR 6When you sound the short blasts a second time, the camps that lie on the south side are to set out. The blasts are to signal them to set out.
7AND WHEN SUMMON <OBJ.> THE ASSEMBLY YOU WILL GIVE A BLAST AND NOT YOU WILL GIVE AN ALARM 7To convene the assembly, you are to sound long blasts, not short ones.
8AND [THE] SONS OF AARON THE PRIESTS THEY WILL GIVE A BLAST ON TRUMPETS AND THEY WILL BECOME FOR <THE> YOU <INTO> A STATUTE OF PERPETUITY TO GENERATIONS YOUR 8The sons of Aaron, the priests, are to sound the trumpets. This shall be a permanent statute for you and the generations to come.
9AND IF YOU WILL GO WAR IN LAND YOUR ON THE FOE WHO OPPOSES <OBJ.> YOU AND YOU WILL GIVE AN ALARM ON TRUMPETS AND YOU WILL BE REMEMBERED <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH GOD YOUR AND YOU WILL BE DELIVERED FROM ENEMIES YOUR 9When you enter into battle in your land against an adversary who attacks you, sound short blasts on the trumpets, and you will be remembered before the LORD your God and saved from your enemies.
10AND ON [THE] DAY OF REJOICING YOUR AND AT APPOINTED FEASTS YOUR AND AT [THE] BEGINNINGS OF MONTHS YOUR AND YOU WILL GIVE A BLAST ON TRUMPETS OVER BURNT OFFERINGS YOUR AND OVER [THE] SACRIFICES OF PEACE OFFERINGS YOUR AND THEY WILL BECOME FOR <THE> YOU <INTO> A MEMORIAL <TO> BEFORE GOD YOUR I [AM] YAHWEH GOD YOUR 10And on your joyous occasions, your appointed feasts, and the beginning of each month, you are to blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and peace offerings to serve as a reminder for you before your God. I am the LORD your God.”
11AND IT WAS IN THE YEAR <THE> SECOND IN THE MONTH <THE> SECOND ON [DAY] TWENTY IN THE MONTH IT WAS TAKEN UP THE CLOUD FROM OVER [THE] TABERNACLE OF THE TESTIMONY From Sinai to Paran 11On the twentieth day of the second month of the second year, the cloud was lifted from above the tabernacle of the Testimony,
12AND THEY SET OUT [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL TO JOURNEYINGS THEIR FROM [THE] WILDERNESS OF SINAI AND IT SETTLED DOWN THE CLOUD IN [THE] WILDERNESS OF PARAN 12and the Israelites set out from the Wilderness of Sinai, traveling from place to place until the cloud settled in the Wilderness of Paran.
13AND THEY SET OUT AT THE FIRST [TIME] ON [THE] MOUTH OF YAHWEH BY [THE] HAND OF MOSES 13They set out this first time according to the LORD’s command through Moses.
14AND IT SET OUT [THE] STANDARD OF [THE] CAMP OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF JUDAH AT THE FIRST TO MILITARY GROUPS THEIR AND [WAS] OVER MILITARY GROUP ITS NAHSHON [THE] SON OF AMMINADAB 14First, the divisions of the camp of Judah set out under their standard, with Nahshon son of Amminadab in command.
15AND [WAS] OVER [THE] MILITARY GROUP OF [THE] TRIBE OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF ISSACHAR NETHANEL [THE] SON OF ZUAR 15Nethanel son of Zuar was over the division of the tribe of Issachar,
16AND [WAS] OVER [THE] MILITARY GROUP OF [THE] TRIBE OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF ZEBULUN ELIAB [THE] SON OF HELON 16and Eliab son of Helon was over the division of the tribe of Zebulun.
17AND IT WAS TAKEN DOWN THE TABERNACLE AND THEY SET OUT [THE] DESCENDANTS OF GERSHON AND [THE] DESCENDANTS OF MERARI [THE] BEARERS OF THE TABERNACLE 17Then the tabernacle was taken down, and the Gershonites and the Merarites set out, transporting it.
18AND IT SET OUT [THE] STANDARD OF [THE] CAMP OF REUBEN TO MILITARY GROUPS THEIR AND [WAS] OVER MILITARY GROUP ITS ELIZUR [THE] SON OF SHEDEUR 18Then the divisions of the camp of Reuben set out under their standard, with Elizur son of Shedeur in command.
19AND [WAS] OVER [THE] MILITARY GROUP OF [THE] TRIBE OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF SIMEON SHELUMIEL [THE] SON OF ZURI- -SHADDAI 19Shelumiel son of Zurishaddai was over the division of the tribe of Simeon,
20AND [WAS] OVER [THE] MILITARY GROUP OF [THE] TRIBE OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF GAD ELIASAPH [THE] SON OF DEUEL 20and Eliasaph son of Deuel was over the division of the tribe of Gad.
21AND THEY SET OUT THE KOHATHITES [THE] BEARERS OF THE SANCTUARY AND PEOPLE SET UP <OBJ.> THE TABERNACLE UNTIL CAME THEY 21Then the Kohathites set out, transporting the holy objects; the tabernacle was to be set up before their arrival.
22AND IT SET OUT [THE] STANDARD OF [THE] CAMP OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF EPHRAIM TO MILITARY GROUPS THEIR AND [WAS] OVER MILITARY GROUP ITS ELISHAMA [THE] SON OF AMMIHUD 22Next, the divisions of the camp of Ephraim set out under their standard, with Elishama son of Ammihud in command.
23AND [WAS] OVER [THE] MILITARY GROUP OF [THE] TRIBE OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF MANASSEH GAMALIEL [THE] SON OF PEDAH- -ZUR 23Gamaliel son of Pedahzur was over the division of the tribe of Manasseh,
24AND [WAS] OVER [THE] MILITARY GROUP OF [THE] TRIBE OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF BENJAMIN ABIDAN [THE] SON OF GIDEONI 24and Abidan son of Gideoni was over the division of the tribe of Benjamin.
25AND IT SET OUT [THE] STANDARD OF [THE] CAMP OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF DAN A REARGUARD OF ALL THE CAMPS TO MILITARY GROUPS THEIR AND [WAS] OVER MILITARY GROUP ITS AHIEZER [THE] SON OF AMMISHADDAI 25Finally, the divisions of the camp of Dan set out under their standard, serving as the rear guard for all units, with Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai in command.
26AND [WAS] OVER [THE] MILITARY GROUP OF [THE] TRIBE OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF ASHER PAGIEL [THE] SON OF OCRAN 26Pagiel son of Ocran was over the division of the tribe of Asher,
27AND [WAS] OVER [THE] MILITARY GROUP OF [THE] TRIBE OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF NAPHTALI AHIRA [THE] SON OF ENAN 27and Ahira son of Enan was over the division of the tribe of Naphtali.
28THESE [ARE] [THE] SETTINGS OUT OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL TO MILITARY GROUPS THEIR AND THEY SET OUT 28This was the order of march for the Israelite divisions as they set out.
29AND HE SAID MOSES TO HOBAB [THE] SON OF REUEL THE MIDIANITE [THE] FATHER-IN-LAW OF MOSES [ARE] ABOUT TO SET OUT WE TO THE PLACE WHICH HE SAID YAHWEH <OBJ.> IT I WILL GIVE TO <THE> YOU COME! WITH US AND WE WILL DO GOOD TO <THE> YOU FOR YAHWEH HE HAS SPOKEN GOOD ON ISRAEL 29Then Moses said to Hobab, the son of Moses’ father-in-law Reuel*NoteCloseReuel was also called Jethro; see Exodus 3:1. the Midianite, “We are setting out for the place of which the LORD said: ‘I will give it to you.’ Come with us, and we will treat you well for the LORD has promised good things to Israel.”
30AND HE SAID TO HIM NOT I WILL GO THAT EXCEPT TO OWN LAND MY AND TO KINDRED MY I WILL GO 30“I will not go,” Hobab replied. “Instead, I am going back to my own land and my own people.”
31AND HE SAID MAY NOT PLEASE YOU LEAVE <OBJ.> US FOR SINCE <THUS> YOU KNOW ENCAMPING WE IN THE WILDERNESS AND YOU WILL BECOME OF US <INTO> EYES 31“Please do not leave us,” Moses said, “since you know where we should camp in the wilderness, and you can serve as our eyes.
32AND IT WILL BE THAT YOU WILL GO WITH US AND IT WILL BE THE GOOD <THE> THAT WHICH HE WILL DO GOOD YAHWEH WITH US AND WE WILL DO GOOD TO <THE> YOU 32If you come with us, we will share with you whatever good things the LORD gives us.”
33AND THEY SET OUT FROM [THE] MOUNTAIN OF YAHWEH A JOURNEY OF THREE DAYS AND [THE] ARK OF [THE] COVENANT OF YAHWEH [WAS] SETTING OUT <TO> BEFORE THEM A JOURNEY OF THREE DAYS TO SEEK OUT FOR <THE> THEM A RESTING PLACE 33So they set out on a three-day journey from the mountain of the LORD, with the ark of the covenant of the LORD traveling ahead of them for those three days to seek a resting place for them.
34AND [THE] CLOUD OF YAHWEH [WAS] OVER THEM BY DAY WHEN SET OUT THEY FROM THE CAMP 34And the cloud of the LORD was over them by day when they set out from the camp.
35AND IT WAS WHEN SET OUT THE ARK AND HE SAID MOSES RISE UP! O YAHWEH SO THEY MAY BE SCATTERED ENEMIES YOUR AND THEY MAY FLEE [THOSE WHO] HATE YOU FROM BEFORE YOU 35Whenever the ark set out, Moses would say, “Rise up, O LORD! May Your enemies be scattered; may those who hate You flee before You.”
36AND WHEN RESTED IT HE SAID RETURN! O YAHWEH [THE] TEN THOUSANDS OF [THE] FAMILIES OF ISRAEL 36And when it came to rest, he would say: “Return, O LORD, to the countless thousands of Israel.”
