32AND NOT YOU WILL BEAR ON IT SIN WHEN OFFER UP YOU <OBJ.> BEST OF ITS FROM <THE> IT AND <OBJ.> [THE] HOLY GIFTS OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL NOT YOU WILL PROFANE AND NOT YOU WILL DIE 32Once you have presented the best part of it, you will not incur guilt because of it. But you must not defile the sacred offerings of the Israelites, or else you will die.’”
1AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES AND TO AARON <TO> SAYING The Red Heifer 1Then the LORD said to Moses and Aaron,
2THIS [IS] [THE] STATUTE OF THE LAW WHICH HE HAS COMMANDED YAHWEH <TO> SAYING SPEAK TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL SO THEY MAY BRING TO YOU A HEIFER RED UNBLEMISHED WHICH THERE NOT IN <THE> IT [IS] A BLEMISH WHICH NOT IT HAS GONE UP ON IT A YOKE 2“This is the statute of the law that the LORD has commanded: Instruct the Israelites to bring you an unblemished red heifer that has no defect and has never been placed under a yoke.
3AND YOU WILL GIVE <OBJ.> IT TO ELEAZAR THE PRIEST AND HE WILL TAKE OUT <OBJ.> IT TO FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP AND SOMEONE WILL SLAUGHTER <OBJ.> IT <TO> BEFORE HIM 3Give it to Eleazar the priest, and he will have it brought outside the camp and slaughtered in his presence.
4AND HE WILL TAKE ELEAZAR THE PRIEST SOME OF BLOOD ITS WITH FINGER HIS AND HE WILL SPATTER TO BEFORE [THE] FACE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING SOME OF BLOOD ITS SEVEN TIMES 4Eleazar the priest is to take some of its blood on his finger and sprinkle it seven times toward the front of the Tent of Meeting.
5AND HE WILL BURN <OBJ.> THE HEIFER TO EYES HIS <OBJ.> SKIN ITS AND <OBJ.> FLESH ITS AND <OBJ.> BLOOD ITS WITH OFFAL ITS HE WILL BURN 5Then the heifer must be burned in his sight. Its hide, its flesh, and its blood are to be burned, along with its dung.
6AND HE WILL TAKE THE PRIEST WOOD OF CEDAR AND HYSSOP AND SCARLET OF SCARLET STUFF AND HE WILL THROW [THEM] INTO [THE] MIDDLE OF [THE] BURNING OF THE HEIFER 6The priest is to take cedar wood, hyssop, and scarlet wool and throw them onto the burning heifer.
7AND HE WILL WASH CLOTHES HIS THE PRIEST AND HE WILL WASH BODY HIS WITH <THE> WATER AND AFTER HE WILL COME INTO THE CAMP AND HE WILL BE UNCLEAN THE PRIEST UNTIL THE EVENING 7Then the priest must wash his clothes and bathe his body in water; after that he may enter the camp, but he will be ceremonially unclean until evening.
8AND THE [ONE WHO] BURNS <OBJ.> IT HE WILL WASH CLOTHES HIS WITH <THE> WATER AND HE WILL WASH BODY HIS WITH <THE> WATER AND HE WILL BE UNCLEAN UNTIL THE EVENING 8The one who burned the heifer must also wash his clothes and bathe his body in water, and he too will be ceremonially unclean until evening.
9AND HE WILL GATHER A MAN CLEAN <OBJ.> [THE] ASH[ES] OF THE HEIFER AND HE WILL DEPOSIT [THEM] FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP IN A PLACE CLEAN AND IT WILL BECOME FOR [THE] CONGREGATION OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <INTO> SOMETHING KEPT TO WATER OF IMPURITY [IS] A SIN OFFERING IT 9Then a man who is ceremonially clean is to gather up the ashes of the heifer and store them in a ceremonially clean place outside the camp. They must be kept by the congregation of Israel for preparing the water of purification; this is for purification from sin.
10AND HE WILL WASH THE [ONE WHO] GATHERS <OBJ.> [THE] ASH[ES] OF THE HEIFER <OBJ.> CLOTHES HIS AND HE WILL BE UNCLEAN UNTIL THE EVENING AND IT WILL BECOME FOR [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND FOR THE SOJOURNER WHO SOJOURNS IN MIDST OF THEM <INTO> A STATUTE OF PERPETUITY 10The man who has gathered up the ashes of the heifer must also wash his clothes, and he will be ceremonially unclean until evening. This is a permanent statute for the Israelites and for the foreigner residing among them.
11THE [ONE WHO] TOUCHES <IN> A DEAD [BODY] OF EVERY CORPSE OF A PERSON AND HE WILL BE UNCLEAN SEVEN DAYS Purification of the Unclean 11Whoever touches any dead body will be unclean for seven days.
12HE HE WILL PURIFY HIMSELF WITH <THE> IT ON THE DAY <THE> THIRD AND ON THE DAY <THE> SEVENTH HE WILL BE PURE AND IF NOT HE WILL PURIFY HIMSELF ON THE DAY <THE> THIRD AND ON THE DAY <THE> SEVENTH NOT HE WILL BE PURE 12He must purify himself with the water on the third day and on the seventh day; then he will be clean. But if he does not purify himself on the third and seventh days, he will not be clean.
13EVERY <THE> [ONE WHO] TOUCHES <IN> A DEAD [BODY] <IN> [THE] CORPSE OF <THE> PERSON WHO HE WILL DIE AND NOT HE WILL PURIFY HIMSELF <OBJ.> [THE] TABERNACLE OF YAHWEH HE HAS MADE UNCLEAN AND IT WILL BE CUT OFF THE PERSON <THE> THAT FROM ISRAEL FOR [THE] WATER OF IMPURITY NOT IT WAS SPRINKLED ON HIM UNCLEAN HE WILL BE STILL UNCLEANNESS HIS [WILL BE] ON <THE> HIM 13Anyone who touches a human corpse and fails to purify himself defiles the tabernacle of the LORD. That person must be cut off from Israel. He remains unclean, because the water of purification has not been sprinkled on him, and his uncleanness is still on him.
14THIS [IS] THE LAW ANYONE IF HE WILL DIE IN A TENT EVERY <THE> [ONE WHO] GOES INTO THE TENT AND EVERY [ONE] WHO [IS] IN THE TENT HE WILL BE UNCLEAN SEVEN DAYS 14This is the law when a person dies in a tent: Everyone who enters the tent and everyone already in the tent will be unclean for seven days,
15AND EVERY VESSEL OPEN WHICH THERE NOT [IS] A COVER OF A CORD ON IT [IS] UNCLEAN IT 15and any open container without a lid fastened on it is unclean.
16AND EVERY [ONE] WHO HE WILL TOUCH ON [THE] FACE OF THE FIELD <IN> [ONE] SLAIN OF A SWORD OR <IN> A DEAD [BODY] OR <IN> A BONE OF A HUMAN OR <IN> A GRAVE HE WILL BE UNCLEAN SEVEN DAYS 16Anyone in the open field who touches someone who has been killed by the sword or has died of natural causes, or anyone who touches a human bone or a grave, will be unclean for seven days.
17AND PEOPLE WILL TAKE FOR THE UNCLEAN [PERSON] SOME OF [THE] DUST OF [THE] BURNING OF THE SIN OFFERING AND HE WILL PUT ON IT WATER LIVING INTO A VESSEL 17For the purification of the unclean person, take some of the ashes of the burnt sin offering, put them in a jar, and pour fresh water*NoteCloseOr flowing water or living water over them.
18AND HE WILL TAKE HYSSOP AND HE WILL DIP [IT] IN THE WATER A PERSON CLEAN AND HE WILL SPATTER [IT] ON THE TENT AND ON ALL THE VESSELS AND ON THE PEOPLE WHO THEY WERE THERE AND ON THE [ONE WHO] TOUCHED <IN> THE BONE OR <IN> THE [ONE] SLAIN OR <IN> THE DEAD [BODY] OR <IN> THE GRAVE 18Then a man who is ceremonially clean is to take some hyssop, dip it in the water, and sprinkle the tent, all the furnishings, and the people who were there. He is also to sprinkle the one who touched a bone, a grave, or a person who has died or been slain.
19AND HE WILL SPATTER [IT] THE CLEAN [PERSON] ON THE UNCLEAN [PERSON] ON THE DAY <THE> THIRD AND ON THE DAY <THE> SEVENTH AND HE WILL CLEANSE FROM SIN HIM ON THE DAY <THE> SEVENTH AND HE WILL WASH CLOTHES HIS AND HE WILL WASH WITH <THE> WATER AND HE WILL BE PURE IN THE EVENING 19The man who is ceremonially clean is to sprinkle the unclean person on the third day and on the seventh day. After he purifies the unclean person on the seventh day, the one being cleansed must wash his clothes and bathe in water, and that evening he will be clean.
20AND A PERSON WHO HE WILL BE UNCLEAN AND NOT HE WILL PURIFY HIMSELF AND IT WILL BE CUT OFF THE PERSON <THE> THAT FROM AMONG THE ASSEMBLY FOR <OBJ.> [THE] SANCTUARY OF YAHWEH HE HAS MADE UNCLEAN WATER OF IMPURITY NOT IT HAS BEEN SPRINKLED ON HIM [IS] UNCLEAN HE 20But if a person who is unclean does not purify himself, he will be cut off from the assembly, because he has defiled the sanctuary of the LORD. The water of purification has not been sprinkled on him; he is unclean.
21AND IT WILL BECOME FOR <THE> THEM <INTO> A STATUTE OF PERPETUITY AND [THE] [ONE WHO] SPATTERS <OF> [THE] WATER OF <THE> IMPURITY HE WILL WASH CLOTHES HIS AND THE [ONE WHO] TOUCHES <IN> [THE] WATER OF <THE> IMPURITY HE WILL BE UNCLEAN UNTIL THE EVENING 21This is a permanent statute for the people: The one who sprinkles the water of purification must wash his clothes, and whoever touches the water of purification will be unclean until evening.
22AND ALL THAT HE WILL TOUCH <IN> <THE> IT THE UNCLEAN [PERSON] IT WILL BE UNCLEAN AND THE PERSON WHO TOUCHES [IT] IT WILL BE UNCLEAN UNTIL THE EVENING 22Anything the unclean person touches will become unclean, and anyone who touches it will be unclean until evening.”
